netdvn, My point was addressing those who fear that KD, or any Cedar Fair park for that matter, becoming a over-sized kiddy park. I get the feeling that they think in another 3-4 years, when you walk in the front gate of a Cedar Fair park, your head will start rocking back and forth; you will start holding the hands of the people around you and break out into the song "It's a Small World After All" !! (Ain't gonna happen). I am all for the charm and atmosphere coming back into the former Taft/KECO/Paramount parks and coming to the CF legacy parks as well. KD has always done fairly well at covering both ends of the market by adding thrill rides one year & family oriented rides/attractions the following year alternating back & forth, that's far different from the wiggles world/thomas town in every park strategy/idea Shapiro had tried to do with the SF chain.

This is what worries me as well & I've said it before because the disney parks never really focused on big thrill rides of the type you see in a typical SF/CF park & while families are an important target demographic they mut not forget that there's also a target demographic that perfers thrill rides & coasters as well. Sadly the taft/keco parks will never be ablt to recapture the majesty & charm of their early years as things have just changed at these parks far too much in the 30 plus years since they originally changed hands but in many respects I have to agree that paramount tried, and failed to make the parks into their version of the big resort parks such as disney & USF.USH.

What exactly do you mean by this? Are you referring to Jaguar at Knott's? For example, Demon at CGA has a 48" requirement while the identical Demon at SFGam has a 42" requirement. All CF enterprise rides (Orbit, Witches Wheel, etc.) have an unnecessarily high requirement of 54" while all Six Flags enterprise rides have a 42" requirement. CF rapids (not sure if all) carry a 46" requirement, while other parks have much lower requirement. The list goes on. In some jurisdictions the height requirements for rides are determined by manufacturer specefications, and in such cases state law says they must be adhered to by the park.

[NL] Upper Gorge Express

Same here,I don't have access to the game exchange for some reason & don't have NL copied to my laptop. -
That is exactly what I'm fearing will happen....I'd hate to see KD become one giant kiddie park but the real reason for that is cost effectivness,it costs far less to install a couple of kiddie rides than it does to install one standard flat ride or even a small coaster. Wouldn't mind seeing one of those SF style spinners at KD though.

The End of the Internet.
KDCOASTERFAN replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's not that easy but even if it should pass the congress the president can always veto it. -
I dunno, after reading the article it sounds like the new CEO wants to do many of the same things Shapiro tried with SFI during his tenure & we all saw how that turned out.I see the whole "family rides" approach as simply a cost cutting method that may result in a decrease in attendance at their parks,,,,don't get me wrong family rides are important but so are thrill rides & coasters too.

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
KDCOASTERFAN replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Would any land on the other side of the railroad tracks be used? I don't see any future development in that area, except for maybe some kind of hotel. Good question as Doswell Rd. runs alongside the park as well.Remember how much hell some folks got for parking alongside that road to film I305 testing last year? -
NoLimits Coaster News!
KDCOASTERFAN replied to Loefet's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
True but the longer it takes to produce the higher the chances are that it'll need a faster system to run on. I remember when NL came out a decade ago & back then my old system barely met the requirements to run it. -

With Grizzly's exit you don't have to go through the arcade to get back on the midway....just use the same path that you used to get to the entrance. -

That's why I use some of the pre-fab elements. -
Link The other Holidays in the Park seem pretty popular, so this could be a good move for the park. Plus, it shows that the new management are investing and have interest in the park. Interesting but a big question remains:Will the county permit operations beyond october & will the park see enough revenue increases from such an event due to the colder fall/early winter climate?

Try it in no limits first so you can get the banking adjusted better. -
Carowinds Discussion Thread

At least they ride better than Boomerangs. /Disclaimer - I still have yet to ride a Windseeker or a regular Boomerang (though I have been on an Invertigo), so this is solely based on hearsay. Carowinds boomarang is actually pretty decent with the new train....now their invert is something I could ride all day long however. -
Vekoma Roller Coasters
KDCOASTERFAN replied to kingdakacor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
And just look at the queue times for most of those SLC's as an example of why vekoma never modified the design.....people were riding after all & not really complaining about the roughness in the same way we enthusiasts do.After all the manufacturer's don't design their products around what we,the enthusiasts want but instead they base their products on what the park's want. -
Vekoma Roller Coasters
KDCOASTERFAN replied to kingdakacor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Most Arrows and Vekomas have the side wheels on the inside of the track and have a tolerance between the wheels and rail, meaning they are not forced to grip the track like Intamin or B&M wheels. This tolerance of the side wheels is generally responsible for the roughness found on these coasters in turns or inversions. Does that mean that if different trains were installed it would fix the problem? Or is the track designed so only trains with that wheel type can run on it? It's also a problem of poorly designed transitions leading into curves or complex inversions(a simple loop doesn't shift enough to be rough) such as on the Togo standups for instance. I've seen roughness on a couple intamin's & B&M's,not to mention the premier LIM bowls(pre lapbar) so having the wheels all gripping the track isn't the solution though it does play a role.
