  1. For Christmas I am getting a Scorpion model. I have a few questions... 1.) Can I "easily" make a custom layout? 2.) Is it a wise idea to paint the track before putting the model together? 3.) I am getting the Griffon train, will this run on my model? 4.) Does it come with enough track to work with? 5.) How long do they usually take to assemble? Thanks!
  2. ^I have always thought that too (about being a great indoor coaster)!
  3. Okay, I know its' not right, BUT, Ghost Town in the Sky?
  4. What is all this talk about a new kiddy area? I go to the park many times a year (and enjoy every one of them), and have absolutely no idea what "new kiddy area" you are talking about.....
  5. The side of Twisted Twins that was running is Stella. But yes, Lola has been down a while. The park is never really packed. I don't know why you think SFKK looks like a huge fair, IMO, nothing about it reminds me of a fair. The park does have some character, it just isn't really shown in the pictures. Yes, T2 really does suck, and be glad it broke down before you could ride in the front. That would have probably been the worst mistake of your life. My friends and I get in the very back and just laugh at all the people waiting in line for the front seat. Poor, innocent people..... If you liked Thunder Run now, you should have ridden it two years ago, after it got some rehab. I'm talking smooth-as-glass! Also, the park is still part of the State Fairgrounds, but the actual fair is in the parking lot adjacent to Thrill Park Theatre. Oh, and yes, I DO have a season pass to the park. It shares the spot of my homepark with Holiday World and Beech Bend(and yes, THAT, I consider a big fair--with the exception of the Kentucky Rumbler!).
  6. When did a Morgan coaster come off the tracks? Or were you being sarcastic.....? lol. But back to the topic.... did they actually have the train come off of the track?
  7. Hey, that is TOTALLY different............well, to me it is anyway.
  8. In the 1977 film Roller Coaster!, in the opening scene, the bomber blow up a section of track on the park's wooden roller coaster. As the train maneuvered this it fell from the tracks, squishing riders on the coaster. My questions are: How did they do this? Was anyone injured during the making of the movie? Could this actually happen? It all just creeps me out to think about it........
  9. 1.) Voyage 2.) Screamin' Eagle 3.) Cornball Express 4.) Kentucky Rumbler 5.) Thunderhead
  10. I wouldn't mind Beech Bend replacing the "Jitter Bug" with a wave swinger. To me, it seems they are slowly trying to move away from the "Huge County Fair" look.
  11. I think Kings Island adding Top Gun was pointless. Maybe if it was closer to the main midway it wouldn't have been, but placing the station were it is was, IMO, a big mistake. I have never waited more than 10 minutes to get on the ride, even with only 1 train running........
  12. I can't wait until I get to go to Carowinds for the first time in 2008! Has it been discussed what they will be getting next year?
  13. Has a park ever added a ride or coaster that made you think....."Why did they do that?" or, "There are many other things that park could have added, so why this?" What is the main attraction that you think fits into this category? I would have to say Scream! at SFMM. They plopped the ride down in a parking lot with no hype or anything. SFMM is lacking in flats, but instead of investing in them, they bought a multi-million dollar coaster that almost went unnoticed. What do you all think?
  14. I've had some really crappy experiences on coasters and other rides. At our local county fair this year a friend and I were riding the rock-o-planes when our door popped open and broke off! (Yes, it fell to the ground!) I have gotten stuck many times on the Raven's lifthill, as well as the Beast's. During a ride on Skyrider at Canada's Wonderland a few years ago, my shoulder restraints came apart. I have also gotten stuck in the middle of the boomerang on the Vampire at SFKK. My first time at Kings Island I got stuck on the MCBR during Flight of Fear. Two years ago we stopped on the lift of Chang and all of the seats released! NOT a comfortable ride after that.... There are many others but those are just some that I can remember off the top of my head. I'm sure I will be unfortunate enough to get stuck upside down soon!
  15. Roller Coasters today are built with much advanced technology to keep riders safe, so.....why have there been so many accidents lately? Is it just bad luck? Is it our fault? Do more precautions need to be taken? IMO, coasters today have many safety features that aren't needed. Such as, seatbelts on Top Gun at KI, and OTSR on Revolution at SFMM. Are they needed? What has led to these extra restraints? Lately, accidents have occurred that no one would ever even think about. Take the Superman: Tower of Power incident for example. Would any of you imagined that a cable could snap, resulting in the loss of limbs on a drop tower? I know I sure didn't...... I guess my point is, even though we are taking all of these safety precautions, major and minor accidents keep occurring everyday. So, do you think roller coasters and thrill rides are safe?????
  16. When I rode Maverick, I experienced lots more airtime than just on the first drop and camelback hump. I mean, I even got some in the horshoe roll!
  17. My vote would go for The Voyage, I mean, there isn't 10 seconds after the chainlift that you aren't out of your seat!!!! (Okay, so slight exageration, but you have to admit, that airtime is INTENSE!)
  18. The way it's operating right now, trust me, you DON'T want it! They are currently only letting 12 people on per cycle, and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the way it move back and forth, as well as side to side.
  19. Well, Holiday World is a family park, and if you look at it that way, it is definitely NOT over-rated, but as a "thrill-park"..... Also, I did find it was somewhat over-rated when there was just The Raven and The Legend, BUT, when they added The Voyage, I had a whole new respect for them. Plus, Holiday World is one of my homeparks (I live exactly 1 hour away from HW, Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, and Beech Bend!) so I guess I will always find love in my heart for it. (Even though they don't operate at full capacity... ) On the subject of station management, I believe Wicked Twister has it just right. They only let enough guests into the station to fill up the train, but you are still given the option to wait for the front or back, even though there are people already there!
  20. Surely SF will move Catapult to another park. Those S&S major thrill rides aren't cheap....... Oh, and I think it would fit in nicely at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom...
