Parks in/near Tokyo
rollermonkey replied to brooke's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, Robb beat me to this one! Unless you are a carousel fan, I really can't recommend Toshimaen. All of the rides there are off-the-shelf except for the old TOGO coaster. The carousel there, however is amazing! It's from the late 1800's and was made in Germany. It has three rings, each travelling at different speeds. The two outer rings have jumpers and more, while the inner ring is like a large, old, victorian era divan and spins at an insane speed. Hanayashiki is smaller, closer to downtown and has a more eclectic ride collection. It also has an even older TOGO (Japan's first coaster) that's actually a bit better. Plus, that park is about 2 minutes walk from Senso-ji, the largest temple in Tokyo. Between Elissa and myself, we can give you all the info you need on getting around as well as the parks themselves. -

Yup, I did that too a few times. Still no luck. Do you use the same program for all the cartoons? I know that the file is a .jpg, butr maybe there's a plug-in missing from my work computer? -

I'm embarrassed to say this, but I've done the right click trick about 20 times! That's why I ended up reading the thread! I'll try some more! -
It seems that I might get to see my Okusan sooner than expected. That's a happy thought!

I agree. This kind of service is usually pointless to a guy like me. While on the treadmill today, my iPod played the following three songs in a row: Torn, Toad the Wet Sprocket The Bridge, Pantera Lonely Day, Bruce Springsteen I enjoyed all three, even if the pace was jarring while trying to run. When Amazon or iMusic make recommendations to me it's mostly crud. I'll check it out, but I don't have high hopes.

Yes, but I think that they are overrated. Do you want some warm apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream?

If you are talking about CoCo Ichiban the Japanese curry house chain, I'm with you on that one! I'm rapidly getting addicted to their hayashi rice. Yummmy!

Between the magazines revealing who gets whacked before I can watch the Sopranos on DVD and this thread revealing (sort of) what happens before I can see the strips, I just can't win! WHY CAN'T I SEE EPISODE #16? I can see all the others! Sorry to hear about your untimely end, Derek. Keep it up Flipdude! I'm checking this out as soon as I get home! -

I wouldn't worry about there being THAT few coasters over here, Derek! Only the US has more than Japan, but yeah, lately there does seem to be an unusual number of park closures. -
I saw this on RCDB, too. What a weird, out of place ride to put into that park! I don't think I saw a single person riding rides there (besides me) over the age of 12 when I was there. I was one of the people on the UK trip who rode G-force more than once (4 times, actually) I thought it was OK, but I didn't like that the restraint squeezed me like a tube of toothpaste as the ride progressed, either.

I agree that there may in fact be multiple trains on EJ. The train seen through the side door isn't blue, it looks orange. Also, it seems too close to the door to be on the center track. I hope so, throughput on a twenty passenger train would be horrible! DDP operates 8 passenger trains, but they always run three of those! -

Hey, Jahan, Nice to see someone getting the weird credits besides me! Would it make you sad if I told you that Lisa Scheihin told me that if I want to get to EVERY park in Thailand with a roller coaster in a single day, all I need to do is pay a taxi driver 40 US Dollars? I'm hoping to duplicate the feat in August. -

Duane Marden clued me in to this one a week ago. When I return to the Tokyo area, I will be heading out to Odaiba to check this out, but it does have a lower priority than EJ or the ToT. At first glance, based on the description and location within the arcade, I thought that this might be Speed Boarder with a new train type. Also, the closure of Speed Boarder was very recent, occuring in the last three mothns or so. So I figured either that, or a stock model. I guess I'll find out in a couple months. If anyone else gets out there, let us know! -
Ah! Now the jealousy sets in! Keep 'em coming, Derek!

Nice one, BeemerBoy! I saw that this was climbing the ladder again, and immidiately I thought: Oh god, here it goes again! Are you ready for this one, Robb?
