  1. ^ ^^ Thanks for the comments and will do!! Fresh Helix images from today!! Had some things to do in Gothenburg today, which will only mean one thing. New Helix images for everyone!! They have added some more pieces since yesterday, a bit more than I though that they would even, but it was really nice to see some progress of the site other than from the web-cams. Also if you want to look closer on the building site then download the massive panorama I made of the whole mountain (the .zip file which is added below), it's a meaty file but it's really worth it in the end, since it gives you a lot better/detailed view of the whole mountainside compared to the official web-cam. Enjoy!! Panorama_2014-01-25.zip First we start with the Panorama, download, open and commence drooling We start as always at the staging ground They have lost quite a bit of pieces with the great pace that the RCS guys are having on site Many pieces have been moved from here They have already prepared for the coming workday Loads of supports Mack!! It soon left and the guys inside was giving me the evil eye while I was walking around taking pictures They even have had to extend the staging area since they have loads of stuff, can't wait to see more stuff coming in Hardware for the switch-track Another big piece for the switch-track A bit closer on the work site where they are right now, the airtime-hill after the top-hat really looks to be a lot steeper and taller then I first thought, EPIC!! For a more close up image, download the panorama at the top!! Overview of the whole mountain And we finish of this update with a progress report graphics, the status at 3 pm today. Pink = installed track. Until next time!!
  2. Good news. Asked about the final fixation of the supports on the Helix blog, and the reply was that they have already started to do the final fixation of some supports, and as RCS get more sections done then more supports will be finalized. They need to leave about 3 sections of track on either end to be able to tweak the position correctly for the next segment, but if it's more than that then they can lock them in place and do the final pour. So there isn't as much pressure to get everything done as I thought. This also means that much of what's done today will soon be put in it's final position. This means that RCS have about 6-7 weeks before they need to be done so that the concrete they use to fixate the supports have enough time to harden before testing starts, so there is plenty of time until before we can worry about a delayed opening. Small update on the build then, one wall section of the maintenance shed have been put into place and few pieces of track and supports have also been put into place. There is still time left today, so there is still time for something more on the layout to be installed. Also there isn't really that much they can do from this location, my guess is that they will move to a location close to the top of the mountain on Monday to do the final turn around. A web-cam image from today, 3 new section of track and one support installed today so far, 2 pieces of track and 2 more supports are available on the build site.
  3. ^^ Thanks! And that's great to hear ^ More like 5 months away for you Also soon just 90 days until opening, so I'm pretty sure that I can you all a verdict at that point
  4. Helix Blog Update - Track installation starts again!! A new set of images have just been posted on the Helix Blog, to mark the re-start of the Helix installation. Just enjoy!! SOURCE: Projekthelix.se - Monteringen är igång igen EDIT: found 2 more at: Liseberg FB First piece of the re-start is being installed Lovely curves The second piece goes in here, the gap is however pretty hard to spot on this image, but now there are just three long sections of installed track, rather than five as it were early this morning Lot's to do with the final footers. At least two have been poured today that I have seen. Until Next time!! Helix will need 136 rail pieces, ranging up to 13.6 meters in length. Each weigh 350-400 kg/meter of track Really close to Lisebergbanan
  5. Japanese coasters are pretty easy in my opinion That one is "Hyper Kid Coaster" at "Fantasy Dome": http://rcdb.com/3512.htm?p=29661 Just had to find the name of the coaster, the park I knew from the photo. Who am I??
  6. I doubt that the opening is in jeopardy if the weather turns nasty for a few days. The RCS people are fast and hardy to work through the most weather conditions, and I'm pretty sure that they can delay the testing with about 3-4 weeks before the opening is threatened in my opinion. And I know that Liseberg can make miracles happen, they have in the past, if it all comes down to the wire. I'm also not sure if they can be able to do the final pour while in some parts where as other are still in fine-tuning, if that's possible then they don't have to rush as much. But I really doubt that it will take more than 4 weeks, since I'm pretty sure that RCS have more coasters to build until the summer season of 2014 starts
  7. Seeing that they it will take about a month to do the pouring of concrete to fill the space between the supports and footers (can't remember the name for it, but in Swedish it's Undergjutning), and that they are aiming to start the test-runs on the 19:th of March. Then they have a maximum of 4 weeks from now before the ride have to be completely assembled and tweaked into the correct position. So, yeah, they need every day they can get. Hopefully the lovely weather we have now will last until then.
  8. ^ Exactly, but the track that was installed last year fought them every step of the way to fill those two gaps. On at least two occasions today I have seen them shift the whole installed structure to make it all fit together flush (visible between two web-cam shots where the track can be seen moving a pixel or so). Just hopes that when these two gaps are finished the rest won't put up as much fight, and they will be flying through the rest of the layout. Currently they are working on getting some more supports in so we might see more track going in tomorrow. So if they will continue to work on Saturdays, then they have 3 more days of work before they are supposed to start in the station area, so hopefully these two sections will be connected next week, and that we will get some shots of the glorious In-Line. Speaking of the station area, they have received some large packages (which can be wall sections) as well as more roofing material, so walls and the rest of the roof may go up soon.
  9. Some pictures of the construction of the Rutschebanen mountain peaks have surfaced. The first one is from the CoasterClub Denmark and the other 4 from the Tivoli official Facebook page. Links: CoasterClub Denmark - FB Tivoli Gardens - FB Rising tall Big supports Looks like a massive cathedral Going to look great once they look like mountain peaks Loots of wood
  10. TRACK!!! So now we can finally say that they have restarted the erection of Helix. Will post another track installation chart image this weekend to summarize the installation that have been done this week. The first piece of track is on it's way to be installed, this is actually the second attempt to get this piece in place, due to tight fit between the other track pieces.
  11. Nice videos!! A small middle of the week web-cam update!! The station roof were supposed to be done today, and most of it is completed, just the roof over the queue area and the initial bit over the platform to the right is missing, so almost there. It really starts to look like a station now. Finally, Mr Crane have arrived!!! They were supposed to start last Monday, which became this Monday and now it's Wednesday afternoon. But finally the assemble of Helix will continue! The time makes me wonder if we actually will see some track going in today or if they start tomorrow morning, meaning that today is just preparation. Also they have done a lot of work on the Pretzel area, but there is still things to be done until it's ready for receiving it's Pretzel for us to drool about.
  12. True, but no B&M that I know of pull more than 4.5 g's.
  13. Hi there It sort of depends on how early in May, I would try to avoid the first weekend since it may be pretty crowded then (long weekend here in Sweden). Fridays and Sundays are better than Saturdays, but it will still be better to go on the Saturday since the park will be open longer those days in the early season. But since you will go early in the season then it won't really matter that much, Liseberg isn't really crowded unless there are some big holidays or vacation periods. Wait until Liseberg announces the final opening hours for the 2014 season before you decide. Sure Helix might draw a crowd, but as a comparison then the queue for Balder the day after it opened were no longer than 15-20 minutes when I was there (1+ hour on the opening day). Yes, Helix will be open, Liseberg isn't like the parks in the UK and open as early as possible (no matter what the status of the rides are). I can't really think of any rides that have been shut when the park opens for the season expect for Hang Over. There have to have been a catastrophic disaster (Hang Over, not really a disaster but it just didn't work) or incredibly bad weather right until opening day for the park not to be ready at the start of the season. I don't know if I have ever seen any deals of cheap tickets for Liseberg available to everyone. The only ones I have seen are some that requires you to be part of a Loyalty program for some shops or clubs. The best thing for you is to order on-line in advance, less queueing to get in and it will give you some front of the queue passes which will help you to skip lines to certain attractions if needed. These passes are free and are only available on-line. Is there anything else then just ask! You're welcome Peter __________________________________________________ Helix Blog Update - January Status Report Liseberg just posted a quick update on the Helix blog, about what we will see during the rest of January. Yesterday they started to cover the roof of the station, a work which will be done on the 22:nd. The final covering of the roof will be done on a later date which is more dependant on the weather itself, since it will in the end be covered with Sedum plants (like many of the newer roofs are at Liseberg). The electric installation is almost done, and on the 28:th they are going to make a test run of the Helix substation, and hopefully it won't have any problems. The assembly of the ride will start next week, the date was pushed forward to get a bit more time for more track and supports to arrive so that the RCS guys wouldn't run out of material They will start with finishing of the area around the escalators and then work towards the in-line and station. Then at around the 27:th we will see them installing the track in the station along with the final brake-run. Which means that by the end of the month the whole northern end of the ride will be done. Then we have to wait and see what will happen next, Pretzel or massive Tophat?? And as Per said above, first test run is scheduled on the 19:th of March Source: Projekthelix.se - Detta gör vi i Januari
  14. ^ I don't see how counting ties would vary that much from counting segments really? I did some testing on "ties variation" between different coasters and found out that the difference in the editor is not significant, it stays at about 1.25 meters or so between the ties no matter what. But you can easily compare it with the spacing of the grid. So just place a node and then count whatever number of ties you want, place the next one and repeat. Not much harder than that. You said that you wanted an "approximation" of the distance, and this is the simplest method, which got a lot easier with NL2 since the distance is fixed on the whole length of the ride.
  15. ^ Why not just count "track ties", I used to do that all the time in NL1. The best thing is that they stay the same distance in NL2 on the whole length of the coaster, and not dependant on the length of the track segment.
  16. Nrthwnd: No idea at all. A slight update though is that they are really cranking out footers in the pretzel section now, there are new ones almost every day now. No track/supports installs at all yet, even though they should have started this Monday. But it looks like the roof of the station is soon going to be installed, the panels are being delivered right now. Links to webams: Mountain overview Station area Bird eye view of the pretzel
  17. Completely agree, I don't really like all the drama, but I really love the incredible amount of creativity in that show though. Have been a massive fan of the show since season 1. So I'm in the same seat as you on this matter.
  18. You have to "Freeze" it first. It's under the "Coaster" tab. Then you don't have to go to the simulator to see it "finished", then just "Unfreeze" to edit it again.
  19. Fooled around with NL2 since the launch, realizing a dream of making an Eagle Fortress inspired coaster as a project. Not the best, since I'm still learning the program so I don't think that I will release it. I'm still thinking of making a larger/better version in the future that might be released, but before that I'll test the other available rides and try out all the features first. Some images of Hayabusa.
  20. Thanks a lot for the help!! It's a really cool feature. I tried looking for it. I just wished that you could run the trains in Editor mode so that you didn't have to go between the editor and the play mode to tweak the ground. Especially since you can still modify the terrain when you have locked the coaster and that the clearance envelope don't is fixed in relation of the track and not the train (if it swings/spins that is). Maybe something like the B&M ball with an attached clearance envelope could be movable in the editor mode when the coaster is locked? Just a thought, would make the clearance testing easier, since you can fix all nature hits directly.
  21. Anyone have an idea on how to do clearance testing (tunnel testing as it was done in NL1) and is the "cut track path" available in NL2?
  22. Thoughts after a little performance test on CPU/GPU dependence I have been playing around with different graphics settings, with a couple of CPU and GPU monitoring programs in the background, and the result of all this is that NL2 is very CPU dependant. My system is basically the same as the recommended one for NL2. But my findings points towards that I have to run all graphics settings at the maximum before I even come close to loading my graphics card to 100%, my CPU on the other hand stays at 100% all the time no matter what the graphics were put at. So in essence then you can easily crank up the graphics, even if you have an older card, as long as your CPU is fast enough. This finding really changed my priorities on how to balance my coming upgrade plans. My specs: CPU: AMD Phenom II 810 2.6 GHz RAM: 4 gb ddr2 800 GPU: Nvidia GTS 250 1GB The tests were done on in windowed mode 1080p, and using HWiNFO64 for CPU load and MSI Afterburner for GPU load.
  23. YAY, I managed to build a complete coaster I really starting to get the hang of it, now I get really interested with the full version. Might still go for a computer upgrade as I have planned A question to the NL crew, what is more important a fast CPU or GPU? Meaning, what is the FPS more dependant on in terms of performance.
  24. Got the demo working, but I'm suffering massive fps drops at the moment, especially when running with the window as large as possible, reducing it helps a lot to be honest. As a reference then my computer have the same spec as the recommended one for NL2, but the difference is that I'm pushing about twice as many pixels due to a 1440p screen (I would think that the recommended screen size is 1080p). I have figured out much on where the stuff is in the editor (just needs to learn the quick key for them), the navigation around the editor and settings/menus are pretty similar to the object editor I use. But I have no idea on how to actually make a track. I get the station one sorted pretty easily, but I can't build any further than that. No matter how I try, I always screws up that one section. The adding of track is much different compared to NL1.
