  1. Thank you all, more updates will come as soon as possible Will also link to the time-lapses my brother makes from the web-cams as soon as he update for this week, it's really nice to see it moving along in that pace. Looking a bit closer then it seems like there is also more braces in that area than other Mac tri-track as well so they have really beefed up the track connectors. The winter have been pretty awful in the past few years, so I guess that it will be a mad dash in the spring to get Helix 100% done until opening as always. That support you are talking about is the exit of the turnaround that comes after the high corkscrew after the first launch. That one and the straight support to the right of it is for the airtime-hill that will cross over the escalator at that point. Look at this image and you will most likely be able to figure it all out:
  2. It's that time again: Helix Update - 2013-10-24 Loads of supports have been put into place during the last few days, the whole section between the drop out of the station to the corkscrew after the first launch as well as some for the first airtime hill are in place so far. No new track except for the couple of pieces that were installed last week. I really hope that the rest of the track pieces are beginning to be delivered soon, so that we can drool even more , there were a few pieces at the staging area today but I want more and also see them installed Anyway onto the images!! Click for larger size of the last image First a few from the nearby multi storey car-park There are some supports in there, this is the most northern end of the ride and just before the first launch You can almost visualize the first corkscrew here and also spot the first launch in this image Here is the the area where most things have happened over the past few days, the big support was installed yesterday evening (saw it on the web cam) and it have since received some company and there are several pieces laying around on the ground to be installed as well Station area construction HQ, with many footers that are awaiting their supports Uppswinget have received it's winter cover, also the footers that are situated behind it seems to be close to completion Second launch area are still under construction Now onto the staging area The other launch track bit's have been put outside again with all their LSM units installed Nice to finally see a piece of lattice track, have waited a long time for this Also judging by the number of launch pieces that are left then there might be some that will end up at the first launch, since I think it looks a bit short at the moment Mmmm, more lattice track The piece closest to the camera seems to be the piece that will connect into the first launch and the other pieces would be the turn into the same Not many supports are left in this area More sexy curves This is strange to me, all other Mack rides with this kind of track only have one filled triangle at their track-support connection, Helix have 3, does it mean that Helix will be so intense that they need to brace it more than normal Cat-walk brackets Now onto the hill on the other side of the motorway Balder says HI!! Another piece is starting to rise Also that big orange concrete pump in the background is pouring foundations and pillars at the station That's one massive support There are several footers to go before they are all done Wonder how the Pretzel-area looks now, if they have done any footers at all there, you can't really tell from the outside Second launch area Overview of the whole Helix area Until next time!!
  3. I did 250 spins over 3 rides (in a row) on Götterflug at Belantis during one visit and it's really nauseating, felt like I had way too much to drink when I got of each run. The question is which of these experiences would be worse, the Top spin where you tumble end over end or Götterflug where you have a clear view of the horizon at all times??
  4. Helix Video Update Liseberg just posted a video of the construction so far. Source
  5. ^^ That would be Pirates blast at Lagunasia: http://rcdb.com/3801.htm ^ And Rolling Cycle at Kodomi-no-Kuni: http://rcdb.com/4221.htm What is this??
  6. Just got a text from my brother saying that the first piece of track have been installed, I think he have his camera with him, so there will be pictures soon EDIT: Images!! First piece of track installed New stuff arriving, no tri-track as I can see The launch pieces are ready to be installed Supports!! They have done plenty since yesterday The first piece of track is ready to be installed And it's off Helix is flying More supports are that have been transported to the building site Getting closer! Touchdown!! More action at the second launch area
  7. ^ By the looks of the lot they had this weekend then they had enough for the first turnaround at least (out of the station to the end of the first launch), as well as some for the second launch, judging by the numbers on the supports that were there. And judging by the comment that the track may be started tomorrow, then they might have received a few shipments since the last update (must have really since there weren't any track pieces on site except for the launch bit's that is). Will see if it's possible to get some images myself soon
  8. If you look closely on the big webcam image just now, then you can see faintly that there is one support standing and another one laying down next to it. They are on the right edge, straight underneath the hub of the big wheel. Link to big mountain web cam
  9. ^ You don't have to wait much longer. The Helix Erection have started!!! The first support have been put into place, looks to me that it's for the up-part for the first corkscrew!! Can't wait to see more of this. According to the comments from the park, then we might have the first piece of track going in tomorrow!! A few more images and the source for the one below: http://projekthelix.se/forsta-pelaren-pa-plats/ Helix have started to point towards the sky!!
  10. Helix Update - 2013-10-13 So today we had the opportunity to have a quick drive past Liseberg, and boy were we surprised of what we saw. Onto the images!! We start by doing a left to right overview of the building site. They are working away on the turnaround at the second launch Second launch footers under way These footers are now more or less done at this point Still haven't fixed a new support for Lisebergbanan The fake rock covering of the power station is complete, looks great More new footers for the turnaround before the "essess" into the in-line This area looks great after they removed all the fencing that have been there almost all season This will be the floor underneath the tracks in the station, it's really far up so there is a massive drop into the first corkscrew On a different note, they have started work on the ice-skating rink that will be available once the winter season starts 5 weeks from now Now onto the really interesting bit (even though we technically took these images before the ones above ), the launch track was moved into the buildings behind the staging area, but since then they have received a nice delivery with SUPPORTS!! I'm touching Helix <3 Loads of small ones These two and the one to the right of them are for the first launch Parts of some massive supports Can't wait to see them in their proper spot Another small one Nice light green colour These two will go right before the first corkscrew, I reckon More RCS stuff, looks like they also have brought their own box to guard the entrance to the staging area once they start to move stuff into the park This will conclude this update, one of the tags that was present on all pieces. I was really surprised on the amount of stuff that have arrived since last week alone, so what can we expect for next update? We just have to wait and see, until then, have a great time!!
  11. Thank you everyone!! People think that spending time at the beach is better use of great weather than going to theme parks, the difference isn't as big as if it would have been crap weather all summer. Just the notion of rain in the forecast may even put several people off, so just some slight rain is in my view the best weather here in Sweden to really have a great day out in a park. It did it's 10:th season this year, and I think it become better and better as the years have progressed, it have been really flying this year New update to follow...
  12. ^ Thank you!! I doubt that Helix haven't made such a big impact on attendance this year, sure the influx of enthusiasts have been pretty low due to Helix, but I doubt that it would make that much difference in the total attendance number. The main issues as I see it were the weather, it have been too good this summer, people rather spend their free time at the beach than at Liseberg when the weather is really hot and sunny, but the thing is that I have never seen such a busy season ending at Liseberg ever, the cooler but still dry weather have drawn loads of people during the later weekends of the season. Sure the advertising campaign earlier this year with crying children, etc. which rubbed a lot of people the wrong way which then didn't go to Liseberg just because of it and also the global economics have played a big role of course. More updates will come when I get the time to do one
  13. Thank you all!! Northwnd: Thanks to the new Kaninlandet development, it have become an even better park to walk around in, the Helix construction have been a bit eyesore but next year there won't be any big projects going on in the park during the main seasons, which is really great. Can't wait to see you here!! alejon: Great link, too bad on the camera angle, but I have to say that it's an pretty epic display, even if it was reduced compared to normal. simon 8899: I do hope that Liseberg puts up a Pretzel stand next to it, it would be so funny and fit the whole Gothenburg spirit that exist here. You hear that Andreas, we want pretzels _________________________________________________________________ End of season report The final day have just passed and Liseberg have already released the report for the summer season 2013. The result didn't correspond with the goals that they drew up at the beginning of the season and there were a drop in attendance with 2% compared to last year. They did however have a better turnover than last year, even though the prices have remained mostly unchanged since last year (must be all those Plättar I have eaten this season ). Another good thing is that the guest satisfaction have risen even further, a big part in this is the new Kaninlandet area which have been a raging success and given Liseberg loads of great feedback. On the 15:th of November they will open up the park again for the 13:th winter season which will be the first one that won't shut the day before Christmas, but also be open a few days afterwards, which is one thing I'm really looking forward to, since it's during that period when most people are free here. So after a pretty bad year (so far) in terms of attendance, then the next one will guaranteed see a massive rise, and it's really simple to see why, Helix!! Source
  14. Part 2 The final day of the season!! This is the day I never want to miss at Liseberg, short queues, usually OK weather and then a massive fireworks at the end, really love this Onto the images!! Went around the back when going to the park, this road offers some great views of the park Nice overview Really love this angle of Balder Overview of construction Same as above A new load of rides which will experience another great ride on Balder The ones in the front and back row are doing it right Shut unfortunately, I do love riding Lisebergbanan at night, and the final day usually is the best for that Some angle I missed on the Helix update Mmmm Helix!! Since the weather was pretty nice this day we had a go at the old wheel Construction HQ from above Turn into second launch They have blasted away a lot of rock Loads of work have to be done here Didn't bother with Atmosfear today but it's still a great ride When we have done one of the wheels, why not the other one as well Helix station overview Future Helix station, you can almost imagine the track going between the yellow beams Demolition to be able to fit the final brakes Another load Weeeeeeee Overview of Liseberg Really love how this brand new building fits within the park, so that it feels like it have been here forever New Old timers trucks and buses Really love this area The west coast area along the Mölndal river Good fun for some Into the rabbit hole we go Loads of people here today, but still no real queues Liseberg's newest addition I really hope that they have a similar show in the theatre next year, since the one this year was EPIC!! Main entrance to Kaninlandet This was the location of the final fireworks this season, there is too much in the way on the mountain this year so they can't do it as they usually do Spinny thing Loads of happy children Another great outdoor show, this time they were jousting What to do while we are waiting for it to get dark... Balder of course!! Love it This was unfortunate, but also necessary Kanonen is really good now, but I do lover Speed Monster more More people in the park Before it got way too dark, we had a quick walk past the track area again, since my brother who was with me this day wanted to have a look, Just 2 pieces left outside While having a look at the track I noticed that the truck that also was standing in the area had markings that said "Eberhard Schaustellerbetrieb", wonder if it's the same Eberhard as the one that runs WildeMaus XXL and other attractions at German Fairs, if that's the case then Cool, wonder if they have received the order to deliver Helix to Liseberg Into the park again, it's really nice to see that they remove the entrance fee for the last few hours Getting dark <3 And suddenly everything starts to light up We had a few goes on the bumper cars, which was great fun Liseberg by night <3 Really love this time a year So why not a few more goes on Balder Love!! This isn't bad either Come to think of it I haven't seen Kaninlandet during the night either I was really blown away Really beautiful I really have to explore this area more in the future when it's dark, the X-mas season will be epic From the queue for the final ride of the day, we end it the same way we started it, with Stampbanan Getting close to the end But first an epic fireworks They had a great show this year I have to say that this was better than usual This location of the fireworks worked really great They had some great music coupled with it Kaboom!! And this was the end of this season Thanks for a great year Liseberg, can't wait for 2014!! A teaser for the winter season See you all when the winter season begins with another update!! Will also take images from the outside if I am in the vicinity until then. Thanks for reading!!
  15. Completely missed this update, been away from my computer this weekend, thanks for sharing though. Final weekend updates, Helix, Fireworks and more!! Sure, I have been away from my computer, I had promised my sister to look after her pets while she was away for the weekend. And since here apartment is located in Gothenburg meant that I spent a lot of time at Liseberg, so here is a massive 130 images update from the final weekend of the summer season 2013. The images were taken over the weekend and cover most of the construction of Helix but also a lot of other things in the park including the final fireworks The update will cover 2 posts, one for Friday and Saturday and one for Sunday (with a quick mention of Monday). First part will concentrate on Helix where as the second one will be more overall. Enjoy!! Part 1: On my way to Gothenburg this Friday I had to switch mode of transport, at a location which is close to Liseberg, so why not have a look around Since this was when the track had arrived then it was the main draw Lovely green track <3 Also nice to see RCS here, means that it will be a quick build once they start and there is more of them 8 pieces in total which will cover both launches Close up The LSM units will go here I really hope that they are sure in the end so we don't end up with some strange modern are piece instead of a coaster Better tag Close-ups from a nearby parking garage Loads of stuff that are ready to be brought into the park in preparation fro the Christmas season Future tunnel under Lisebergbanan Still several footers are missing until the erection will begin So here we are, final weekend have started, unfortunately there was really horrible weather this Saturday, with strong winds and annoying drizzle all day, but that didn't stop me from going to have a look at Helix It's a bit hard to see on this image (there is another one further down that show it better) but they have chopped of some supports on Lisebergbanan to build the tunnel underneath the Lisebergbanan lift, which is the main reason why Lisebergbanan have been closed for the last few weeks of the season Still no access here, but that won't be a problem until next season, so it doesn't matter that much any more As said, it was awful weather Love this angle, loads of footers squeezed into a small area, just imagine the forest of supports that ill converge here Footers for the turnaround between the airtime hill after the second launch and the "essess". Still lot's of things to do at the Pretzel area, no footers there that I know of More work have been done on the Power shed Here you can see the chopped of support of Lisebergbanan, they will need to do some big concrete footer after they have blasted their way through underneath and weld it all up again The future façade is really great looking The structure is complete, now they just need to fill it with big things and then finish it off on the outside The footers here have come a long way since I last where in this area Still more footers that need work after the park shuts Other side of the path Trench for the cables from the power shed to the second launch These concrete blocks will be put in the trenches above and house the cables More footers underway Last time a large hole, now a massive footer in a hole Second launch area have come a long way, it's really going to be pretty steep Construction HQ!! They have really blasted away good here Since Lisebergbanan have been shut for the past weeks there is plenty of work being done to the area before the final in-line, massive tree clearing have been done Future footers for the twist itself More demolishion Footers for the station building or transfer track, you decide?? Heavy machinery at the station area Looks like they are preparing construction of the station floor Really love this image, there are at least 16 footers visible in this one shot!! Can't wait for some tracks going through here The first launch ends here First launch area Other direction Turn into the first launch Turn into turn into first launch Yay, Helix!! Noted!! Lisebergbanan shut Footers I doubt that they will be able to get a train through that barricade Some of the footers for Helix helix Since the weather was really awful, I decided to have a go at Balder, 10 minutes queues are lovely, especially when Balder was hauling this much ass Also had a quick go on Kanonen, which really deserves some love now with it's new restraints <3 Since the bad weather didn't let up I decided to call it a day early, but on the way out I walked passed the track area to see if something have happened since last night, and would you look at that, they were moving around the pieces Just a few pieces left?? Yep the stack behind the crane was gone as well Also looks like someone gives me the evil eye, must be the one in charge of the operation, I don't think his hands ever left his sides, quite a character Soon they could rip down the SAAB sign and put a Liseberg one there instead, also some more Helix footers OMG Helix is flying!! Ahh, they are moving them into the building, beats working outside on days like this. I guess that they will prepare them as much as possible before installing them. Next up part 2. This was the last image from Saturday, next up next post!!
  16. What he meant is: "Webcams for Helix are soon online." They actually are already, nice to see that Liseberg finally have put them up for us to follow the construction in real time. Next update from me will come within a week, so expect more images then.
  17. Must have completely missed that they they upgraded Jet-Line last year, or it was just one of those non-news that aren't important to anyone but us I know for a fact that Liseberg are looking into updating the old relay based control system in the near future, since it locks up now and then and trying to guess what's wrong is a nightmare, it also locks down if the trains are going too fast past the detectors. It's a matter of when, not if they will do it, they are waiting for an opportunity so that it fits with new attraction purchases and also finding a company that have time to do the upgrade (which I guess would be harder to find). There were also a question if they were to replace the trains, and if so lift, MCBRs and station area track at the same time, making it just as good as new. It would be sad to loose the old trains, which was why the Jet-Line update made me happy to see that Gröna Lund had managed to add these new features to their existing trains.
  18. Were at Gröna Lund yesterday and noticed that Jet-Line have had magnetic brakes retrofitted to it in the past year. Not sure that they were there when I were in the park earlier this season, but they are a real improvement in rider comfort. Completely noiseless final brakes and trims, and the only modification to fit these brakes to the train were an angled piece that is put on one side of the underside of the train. Really hope Liseberg do the same with Lisebergbanan, unless they plan to not only replace the electrics that run the coaster, but also replace trains, etc.
  19. ^ The erection if the ride won't start until after the Summer season have ended, which is in 2 weeks. So there is nothing done yet. Not even sure that the track have arrived in Sweden yet, they usually place these stuff within the fenced of section of the Parking area, but as you can see then there isn't anything Helix related there, but since those fenced of areas are the secure parking lot then I doubt that the track will arrive there until after the season is done. But then again with the massive property deal that Liseberg have done with the buildings next to the park it might be that they are storing everything indoors and we won't see it until it's put into place. But I think that they will complete most of the footers before they will start putting up any steel for the ride.
  20. Liseberg mini-update Was unfortunately unable to make a true Helix update this weekend, due to a massive cold, which thankfully is on it's last legs now. But I guess that it wouldn't be much different than other recent updates, just a lot of footers in various stages of completions from various angles. There were several new ones when I went little over a week ago, so I guess that there are several more next time. Liseberg had shut down Lisebergbanan again last Friday for the rest of the season , since they were working on the tunnel underneath Lisebergbanan, so that would be something new to have a look at next time. However I had an opportunity to have a look at the park from the outside yesterday, it also gave me a great opportunity to test out my new lens to my camera The coming weekend I'll be in Stockholm for a visit to Gröna Lund so no Helix images then, but the weekend after that (Liseberg summer season finale) will bring a bucket load of images of the park, so expect more at that time. Also while seeing images from EAS then I know where the Helix front car went, wonder if it will return to the park for the winter season. Here are the few images from yesterday: After getting of the tram at the big stop close to the park, I was greeted by the "massive" Liseberg wheel They were doing some rearranging of the light ropes on the trees in preparation of the winter season which starts in about 2 months Temporary location of the sheds that will host many of the stands during the winter season, I was really hoping that I could spy some Mack track here Hello Balder!! Outside the main entrance to the Liseberg HQ Is it stuck?? New footers is visible from here, they are really hard to spot from inside the park Work on the transformer building were progressing, seems like the roof is now on More footers Even more footers The new entrances looks really great, but there are issues about crowd management around them, there is usually massive queues to some of them where as others may have almost no people in line.. I'll end this report the same way I started it, at the wheel. See you in 2 weeks with loads of more Liseberg images!
  21. The whole White-Green combination were much worse in the past when most other attractions were painted in the same fashion. Thankfully they did a re-theme of the large selection of Huss rides in the park which reduced this White-Green number to just the coasters (more or less).
  22. Jetline is certainly mindblowingly intense! when did they put the lead in? On the days when Robb, etc. were at Gröna lund to do the Twister film shoot, the weekend before the park opened that year. Epic rides
  23. Not only is the ride complete in the sense of track and supports, but according to people on Coasterfriends then the trains will arrive next month and they will start test-running and do TÜV inspections before January 2014 They are really putting the construction of this ride in overdrive to get it done ASAP. Wonder how long this beast will stay dormant until opening? Love it that there is such a nice new coaster being built so close to home (apart from Helix that is ).
  24. So I got time for a quick visit today, and since it was really crowded for a late September day I didn't get that many rides done in the short time I had. First and foremost was the Kanonen ride which I will come back to, then some more awesome Plättar (getting close to the 100 I promised myself that I would eat during the season) and then finished it of with 2 epic night rides on Lisebergbanan . As said before I don't particularly like the "soft west" type of restraints they all chafe on my neck and the Intamin's I had tried before (Tornado, Insane and Atmosfear) all try and rip my ears of every time I ride either of them. What a huge difference some nylon fabric and thin sheets of foam makes. These new restraints have completely changed my view of Kanonen, I would even be tempted to call it a good coaster instead of just a mediocre credit as I rated it as before. I'm happy to ride it any time now, even several times during a visit, not just once a season just to have ridden it every year. I used to ride it with my hands in the air just to reduce the amount of neck slashing, but on the ride today I didn't brace myself at all and there were no chafing, no bashing and the nylon makes it slip by the ears without any pain at all, I really hope they add these to Atmosfear (or any other Intamin with the harder "soft" restraints) for just that last reason alone. It took Liseberg 3 tries to change the original restraints, but now they finally got it right. Great work!! I really hope that they will fix the red train quickly, but until then avoid it at all costs, and go for the blue train I'll give this change of restraints 2 big thumbs up from me
  25. I'm happy you all liked the update!, next one will come in 2 weeks. The replacement of the vests have been rumoured for years that I know, so it's finally happening. Are the I305 ones similar to those on Atmosfear or are they softer? But then again I'm not a big fan of any of the "soft west" restraints I have experienced. They chafe, makes you feel claustrophobic (which I never experience in any other situation) and they try and rip my ears off every time I use them. Sure the neck slashing might be better with these, but I have more issues with the massive vibrations that occurs after the loop and other places, and I'm pretty sure that these vests won't do much difference in that aspect. But with Helix next year then I never really have to ride Kanonen again I have the opportunity to visit Liseberg this Saturday again, I will not do another Helix update, but I can have a look at Kanonen instead..
