^ I think that it will be done for the opening of the next summer season, so April 2014. Especially seeing that Helix is more or less completed in that section, and it would be unnecessary to dig up the hill again after fixing it up after the Helix construction. We just have to wait for the press release to be published. -

^ I'm not sure how long this funicular have been in the planning (they haven't really made an official announcement of it yet here in Sweden), but it's really nice to see them to make an effort to help the people that need some extra assistance. One of the things that is really different about Liseberg compared to other posts, are as said in an earlier post, that they are owned by the city, and run in a "non profit" fashion, where the profits will come back to the people in the surrounding area and other visitors in terms of investments, lower prices, give free tickets to those who can't afford their own, etc. So I really hope that this ownership will last and not try and turn Liseberg to a profit driven park like most other, since there is so much love going on around Liseberg. This funicular will also make it easier for Liseberg during the winter season, since at the moment there isn't a path up the mountain (never really is during the winter season) but they runs a minivan for everyone that can't take the escalator up to the top. Well, sure it's aimed to the disabled ones, but as Andreas said at the convention, these things improves the visit for all people not just the disabled ones, so you will be more than welcome to ride it Who knows Robb might try and get some ERT on it on the upcoming trip -

Ap0ptosis : I hope that you manage to visit some parks in those areas during your trip, there is always nice to ride rides in other parts of the world. Nice to hear about the funicular, the access to the top have been pretty bad and the trek for someone with disabilities is incredibly long to get from the bottom of the park to the Atmosfear/Helix complex. It was especially bad during the past few weeks of the season when the path was completely blocked due to Helix construction. Wonder where it will end up going, next to the big escalator or somewhere else. Complete live stream of the "Accessible Tourism in Europe" meet can be seen at: http://ec.europa.eu/justice/newsroom/discrimination/events/eventedpd2013_en.htm EDIT: While watching the bit where Andreas Andersen is talking (first link at about 6:06) there is a slide which shows the new funicular, looks great!! Nice!! -

Not so sure who got the best thrill rides between Liseberg and Gröna Lund, I'm not that impressed by either. Having travelled a lot and ridden all kinds of rides have dulled my senses in how intense/exciting the rides are. For instance I used to love Spin-Rock at Liseberg, but after riding the exact same ride model in South Korea with all settings turned up to "11" made Spin-Rock really dull in comparison, and then there is XXL in Germany which is the same kind of ride, just insane, so now I never ride Spin-Rock any more, I might go for a ride on it now if it have a queue of less than 5 minutes.. I usually go between Lisebergbanan and Balder, and then mix in a few other rides in between them, usually the Bumper Car and Slängungan, and maybe Kanonen and Atmosfear in between. So I don't really bother that much with the rides on Liseberg any more.. So in terms of thrill-rides then I think that Liseberg need something completely different compared to what they have now. Haha! Andreas blog states that he lives together with his partner "Petter". Peter/Petter' date=' close enough, you can't really blame me for that conclusion [/quote'] I'm pretty sure he is Norwegian as well, I have lived close to Gothenburg all my life, except for a few years in Luleå and Kiruna. -

Seeing that they have a lot more space now, then I wouldn't mind any resort area, with an indoor water-park, and since there isn't any big indoor water-parks here in the area around Gothenburg, then I wouldn't think that it's such a bad plan for Liseberg. Just that they keep enough open space for some larger attractions so that the outdoor part of the park have plenty of space to grow in the coming years. On the leaked rendering they had a large open park area which would be included in the park once it was needed, so they have though of that much at least. You are talking about thrill seekers and such, and that isn't really what Liseberg is about, they aim to please all people no matter what their preferences are. Which is why Helix is such a great investment, it's a ride that is suitable for a lot of people. My bet is that it won't be as extreme as any Intamin of the same type, but still plenty forceful and also gentle at the same time (the same way Blue Fire is). It's aimed to be a pleasant, fun and thrilling ride, not just pound you with as many g-forces as it's possible (like most Intamin's do). But I do hope for some more thrilling rides together with some new great family/kids rides to balance it all out. I think that Gröna Lund is more aimed at thrill seekers compared to Liseberg, they have at least a bigger share of thrilling rides compared to Liseberg, but since Liseberg is so much larger then I don't really bother me that much, since they have loads of space to put in more rides. Ha ha! No, not at all, he is just a great guy who I have contact with now and then, especially when going to/wondering anything about Liseberg. He is the same kind of coaster nut as the rest of us and is really nice to chat with about anything coaster/park/Liseberg related. -

Thanks a lot for the feedback, unfortunately my NL projects have ground to a halt for the time being, due to me lacking the inspiration to carry on for the moment. Will ask Andreas about Green Fire next time I meet him to see if we can get a peak of some images They said somewhere that the final queue would be up to 500 meters long, so under the station might be a great place to put the overflow. It's always nice with shade and cover for rain. But during Halloween depending on the crowds, then it might also be a great place to have a scare maze But then again they still have the old queue for the simulation ride still intact so there are already quite a bit of queue already in place. That was the initial idea, but then the opportunity to also buy the ex SAAB factory arrived, so now they are more free in what they want to do with all the land they have available. One part of this project, apart from building an on-site hotel and new parking structure to free more land, there have been talks in making Liseberg more of a resort and a whole year experience. To accomplice this then you would need some kind of indoor attraction to be able to run in any kind of weather, but if it's a water park or just an area with "normal" attraction located inside is unknown at the moment, it could even be both. There were someone that leaked some images from within the park of an early rendering on what the new area could look like and posted on the site, they are now gone unfortunately (I guess he/she didn't have the permission to do it). It was an early concept, but I think that it lacked in several areas, since it didn't cover some of the problems that have to be dealt with to prepare the area to be included in the park and that it didn't really "feel" like Liseberg, more of a business-park. Yeah I'm not really a fan of any water-park myself, so I really hope for more of an experience kind of indoor thing, with some various attractions that could keep me occupied for some time. I do hope that there will be some kind of enclosed coaster since I really love them, they are great fun and simulate one of the best coaster experiences you can have, riding at night Seeing that Liseberg have covered the attraction plans for the next few years, which would mean that any kind of expansion wont arrive in the during that time, and that a big expansion of this kind will require a lot of work, then I would guess that 2021-2023 would be a good aim for the opening of this new area. As long as the expansion includes some kind of great coaster then I'll be happy, especially if it were to include a B&M invert, since that would be epic -
What is a better formula for a coaster?
Loefet replied to gforce1994's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The answer would be a bit of both I presume, then it would please most people. So Helix would be the obvious choice -

Thanks for the comments!! Well most of the snow only lasted a few hours really It came 6 inches yesterday and today most of it is gone again. Great news for the station crew that is working hard with the switch track flooring as I write this (see image below). The only thing I know about it is that you would look down on Uppskjutet from the top of the lift, and that's more or less all that Liseberg have released from it. They might post an image of it (Lisa on the Helix blog that she would look into it, also Andreas Andersen have also said that he would look into it, but that were some time ago), or we may never know anything about it at all in the end. I agree with you that I'm highly interested to know more of it, it's always fun to see concepts that in the end didn't make the cut, it's a great place to seek inspiration for future NL projects, as a matter of fact I would be really happy to see an image of it to create a version of it in NoLimits to ride myself. By the way, I wonder what they are going to use the open space underneath the Helix station for, if they are only going to fence it of, then it might be pretty boring, but it could make for an epic Halloween maze, if the plans for Liseberg to be opened during Halloween goes as planned next year. More flooring going in. From: ftp://213.115.150.61/HelixHjulet_WEB/current.jpg -

Fortunately it's still a weekend, we'll see tomorrow, but I guess that they will continue to push onwards. However ffter the storm on Thursday when some snow fell during the night didn't stop them from putting some new steel on the Friday ^ Yeah the snow that came today was murder, first it was nice and soft, then it turned all sticky and heavy, not fun at all to clear away from the drive when I got home. -

Yeah, the weather have been pretty awful in the past few days (extreme winds combined with heavy rain, hail and snow, and to top it all of a 15 hour power outage ). Earlier today when I had a quick trip into Gothenburg planned, I decided to make a slight detour past Liseberg to at least get a new panorama, so that you all would have a better view of Liseberg and Helix than the image on the previous page from the web-cam. However, it started out pretty nice with just a light snowfall, it turned nasty once I finally got to Gothenburg. The view was so short that I wouldn't be able to get any kind of view of Liseberg from the spot I take panoramas, so I just went up to the nearby parking garage and went past the staging area. Helix in the Snow!! Not much to say really, just to post some images of the little I saw.. I can on the other hand report, from what I have seen on the web-cams last week, that they have put in the station floors on either side of the track trough, and that they have made some more progress on the steel that will hold the pre-show and the switch track areas. Also they have made some great progress with the Pretzel loop area where they are forced to make a large slab to build it upon due to difficult condition, they have at least poured one portion of it so far. Also they have put in a lot of cabling for the second launch. Onto the images: Even if this is as close I can get, you really can't see that much Corkscrew in the snow Lots of progress on the station Nothing much have happened here Just another load of supports and a few pieces of track since the last update I did And this is it, nothing really, but it's at least something Until next time!! -
This post really sums it up pretty good, the differences that is. We all love the old B&M's which are said to be "forcefull" compared to the newer ones that are to be considered "forceless". Thing is though, all B&M:s produce the same kinds of forces (sure some of them are pretty weak , but still). The difference is progress of computers and fabrication. With the help of more powerful computers and more precise manufacturing methods B&M have improved their designs so that the transitions between all elements are "perfect" instead of pretty blunt in their earlier designs. These perfect transitions between the forces makes the newer rides feel "forceless", even though it hit's the same 4-4.5 g's as the rest of them. So you can all just blame progress..

^ It's not as bad as you think and they paint it up to be. As it stands today then the final tally for Helix will be at least 231 MSEK. Onto that there is a 8 MSEK cushion to take care of unforeseen expenditures. But here is the thing, on the Liseberg board meeting when they decided to go through with Project Helix then they decided that the complete ride must not cost more than 245 MSEK, so they are still within the financial limits of the ride investment. Meaning this article is a bit redundant and not really news worthy in my opinion. On the original press launch they said that the investment would be around 200 MSEK, so sure they have gone over "that" budget, but 231 MSEK is still "around" 200 MSEK.. More on this on GP.SE [swedish] I guess that this article have something to do with a statement that a politician in Stockholm said a few weeks ago, that if Liseberg was located in Stockholm and if it were owned by Stockholm, it would be sold of to a private owner (of some sort) since the city shouldn't dabble with this kind of ventures, and it would be a nice addition to the city budget. The thing is though that Liseberg runs itself without any additional funds from the City of Gothenburg (even though most people here don't know that, and claims that Liseberg sucks funds that could be used for School and Healthcare), and it's not only that but they are also giving the city of Gothenburg 20 MSEK every year back to the city, apart from all the taxes and everything else that the park generates in the City, the thing that is usually thrown around is that for every 1 SEK spent at Liseberg means 3 SEK spend on other things (hotels, transport, food, etc.) in the city. So in my mind it's a pretty sweet deal for the city itself to run a park of this magnitude, since it all comes back to Gothenburg. The original articles below, unfortunately all in Swedish. ^ Can't really tell, the 1.6 version needed about 70 MB and then the 1.7 update were another 12 MB. The only gripe I have with the basic license is the maximum video output, I mean who still uses 4:3 aspect ratios on videos these days? Would have loved to see 720p for the basic version and 4k for the pro one -

Love the video Ap0ptosis, but search for "BlackScrap! - The World We Are" for a youtube video if you want to replace the sound for your video to keep the sound going. Helix Blog update - All about the Station Since there isn't much progress on the track itself, Lisa who runs the Helix blog posted some images of the progress that have been made on the station so far. They have however ground to a halt on parts on that project as well since they now need the track for the station area to be put into place, but that won't happen till January. So the only real progress in this area will be done to the queue so there is still lots to do. And since the queue is in the bowl of the station it's a great place to make some serious progress. Source of the images below as well as several others: projekthelix.se - Stationen börjar ta form Where all the queuing will take place Other direction next to the station trough Seen from the first launch One of the passages between the station and maintenance building, that cut in the wall will be at the same height of the station floor, so it's pretty damn tall this building -

Thanks for all the comments!! I find that strange that the north American parks don't do this. But I think it might be the difference in type of park that plays a big role. I mean I would never ever imagine a Six Flags park doing the same thing at Liseberg, Tivoli, etc. during the winter season. Too much of a hassle for them, especially seeing that most of the park that have a big winter season tends to be located in city's and have more than just loads of attractions put up in the middle of a field (I would also want to say that there are exceptions to this as well). It's sort of a niche market that the parks here have started to exploit to extend the season to ultimately get more visitors in the park. However, Gröna Lund have tried to also be opened during the winter (after Liseberg started their winter season), they threw in the towel after just a few couple of years, since there is already a massive winter market next to it so they couldn't compete with it. I know that people in the upper management are reading this thread, so you might give them some ideas But unfortunately since you are coming in June, then it won't be dark enough to get the full experience. -

Have been quite busy over the past few days, so thanks for keeping this thread up to date: alejon and Ap0ptosis!! ^ Well I wouldn't call it light, but it ain't dark either, sort of dusk, so you won't get the full effect of it all. But it will be great during the last weekends of the summer season. However if the plans of having the park opened during Halloween comes true then it will be epic (depending of course which rides will be opened at that time). Liseberg Christmas season update 1 Had the opportunity to go by the park yesterday, to check out the Liseberg winter market as a start of this years Christmas season. Liseberg is really nice during this time a year. Loads of stalls, food, shows, a few rides, animals and of course loads of epic lighting. A real must visit for everyone that really want to have a really nice time in Gothenburg during the winter. Not much Helix on this update, but since the steel erection is suspended during the winter season, then there isn't much to report, apart for some nice images of the station that keeps growing. This update I will focus on the park as a whole, next one though I will go and check out all the stalls and see if I can get to taste some not so "normal" foods that are available. This time I had a nibble on some bear sausages, smoked reindeer meat and had a glass of birch juice, but more on that after the next visit to the park So onto all the images for you to enjoy!! Before we went to the park we had a quick browse through the shopping centre where the Helix car is located I really love the gift wrapping on it, I wouldn't mind finding that present under the tree So onto the park, and before we had a look at the rest we made a dash for the Helix bits that had been erected so we could give you all a small Helix update Mmmm, Helix!! The two corkscrews at the beginning of the ride The station have grown a lot during the past week, floor and one wall of the maintenance shed is done Really love this area, can't imagine how nice it will be when the green glow of the Helix train will whizz by Speaking of Helix Nice and twisty A forest of supports Second corkscrew Really nice banking here, just imagine going past here at nearly 90 km/h a few feet of the ground Other part of the turn in the image above First corkscrew and launch The brake run footers are nearly completed Steel for the station have been erected Brake run from the other direction These red steel beams will form part of the floor for the switch track Three trains, three doors Really beautiful wheel More Christmas lights Wheel up close Footers for the in-line <3 More twisty stuff First launch and Corkscrew The blue thing that is really visible in the layout rendering which many people have questions about, it have been there for years (since 1923 to be exact), but you don't really notice it Some of the 5000000 light sources in the park This is the area which I looked most forward to Only 30 days until Christmas Probably the largest ride now Crazy trees Loads of people More Kaninlandet The Atmosfear tree really dominates the park They have gone nuts in the new kiddy area Se comment above Really love all the lighting they have put in This looks epic as well Unfortunately the whole play structure was closed, too slippery I spy some Plättar over there Even Burger King looks great during the winter season Beautiful Hmmm, wonder why some newspaper tried and ask Disney what they were willing to give for the park if it was up for sale. Since there already is a castle in the park then it wouldn't bee to hard for them to convert the park It would be a real shame if the politicians in Gothenburg would announce a sale of Liseberg would happen, but there is little chance of that at the moment, thankfully. Really beautiful Reindeers!! We went to see Santa We had to walk in a dense and snowy forest until we arrived BUT HERE IT IS!! Wonder who wished for a Threshing machine for Christmas No idea on what they make here Filling up the sleigh Must have more images of the massive "tree" People enjoying themselves at one of the many fires More lights Even more lights YAY, Castle!! Southern end of the park They had ditched all the meatballs, sausage, etc. and replaced them with: Game Kebab, made with Moose and Deer meat Wild boar sausages with bread Moose sausages with bread And finally various game delicatessen from: wild boar, moose, deer, roe deer, hare and goose. Not sure which is best, but much of these sounds great There are some Helix bits in there somewhere The blue thing again Entrance to the escalator have revived a massive overhaul for the winter The main fountains have become a skating ring where everyone is allowed to have a go Except for when there is a show on Nice looking restaurant On the way out Had a great time see you next time!! On the way home we went by the staging area for a quick look There is really a lot of track here The RCS guys have moved on until January, so there is plenty of space for more curvy deliveries Until next time!! -

Lovely images!! Really miss the German fairs, I try to hit as many as possible every time I go through Germany. Well, I don't agree with that at all. Sure they are a bit more snug than the original trains, but they are really comfy in my mind, same with the restraints. But I guess it all comes down to the size of the rider. -

^ Oh, nice!! Haven't been to that shopping centre for quite a while now, and didn't know that they had put the first car on display there. Really great to see that Liseberg are doing the best they can to spread the news of Helix. On another note, according to a post on the Helix blog earlier today, then we won't see any more steel going up until 2014, due to safety concerns since the park will now be opened for the public. The work on the station will continue during December, as will landscaping around the areas that are completed, plant even more trees and I would guess that they will finishing up the remaining footers, so that the ride will fly up once the Christmas season ends. -
Help Identify this coaster!
Loefet replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't think that the coaster sought after and the one at the Muskego Beach (Tailspin) is the same, they are similar but there are 2 major things that put me off to call then the same. 1. The entrance and exit to the turnaround are way to close and are angled so that they meet at the bottom. 2. The hills (whether they are two "airtime hills" or the taller one is the first drop) seems to share the same structure, since it looks like there is no gap between them. Both of these points towards that the aerial picture is of some other coaster than the sought after one. -
