  1. You are all welcome!! ^^ Apart from those big changes** there are a few small modifications to tweak the track so that it will work around a few trees in a better way, but nothing that really shows. ** Addition of the first corkscrew after the initial drop out of the station, and changing the airtime-hill and corkscrew after the second launch to an inverted top-hat and an airtime hill. ^ Speaking of looking more and more amazing everyday, look below . NEW Web-cam image + Progress report The new web cam on Atmosfear is up, well sort of, it's not available on the Helix site as of yet, but I will update with a link once it is Also as you can see they have finished the second corkscrew as well, so much of the first bit is done, there is just a small gap as you can see on the image below that is missing until it's all done from the drop outside the station and into the dive down to the pretzel. Also added an image with the installed track so far, unfortunately the supports on the rendering aren't the same as the real world so I won't add which supports are installed an which aren't. This is an EPIC view Progress as of now, pink = installed track
  2. Used to watch massive amounts of anime (50+ series) and read some mangas as well until a few years ago. At that point I got completely hooked on J-dramas instead, and I absolutely love it. Don't really watch any normal TV any more Some of my favourite anime series include: GITS Bakemonogatari Lucky Star NHK ni Youkoso! Suzumiya Haruhi no yƫutsu And I'm also a big fan of the Miyazaki films as well as most of the stuff that Production IG creates, also the films that Shinkai Makoto produces are completely works of art and some of the most beautiful animations I have ever seen. But as I said above, I have completely turned over to J-drama instead a love that started with the epic series Densha Otoko It's gone so far that I almost have seen 100 different series so far, and it keeps getting better and better as I watch more of them.
  3. Another Helix Blog update First corkscrew is DONE!! and there are only a few pieces left on the second one. And a few more in the other gap then the track around the first launch is a continuous section. We will see what happens tomorrow, that is if RCS continue as they have before, but since Christmas at Liseberg opens this evening then they may not work tomorrow. Source: http://projekthelix.se/forsta-korkskruven-klar/ DONE!! Another big part of the long check-list can be ticked off. Second corkscrew in the background and the twisty airtime hill that follow at the top, can't say if they are connected yet, but there is a big chance of that
  4. ^ And it's getting even better with some nice sunshine behind it, like these images that were posted on the Helix blog just now: Helix Blog Update The images posted below are selected to show areas I couldn't get images of yesterday since those areas were of limits during the visit. Source of the images and more at: http://projekthelix.se/mer-bilder-fran-bygget/ Enjoy this now, since there will be a load of supports that will cover this view soon First launch from the other direction From the station area Sexy turn around Another new section of track is going in It will be epic to zoom by here in just 163 days
  5. Thank you everyone for the nice comments!! ^ I think it all comes down to safety during construction as well as what footers are completed at the given point. I don't think they are allowed to install the bits of the corkscrews at this point when there are people in the area connecting up the LSM units, and they can't really do the ride linearly due to the footers in some areas aren't completed yet. I know that the RCS guys works weekend, but there might be other people doing the LSM installation and they might not, if that's the case then there is a chance that we might see the corkscrews completed this weekend. One piece of track in the staging area might be heading for the s-curve section as well, so there is another section that might end up going to be installed soon. Almost seems like they are trying to complete all the track installation in this section before moving on to the next one, they could save a lot of time moving the big crane around by doing Helix section by section.
  6. Nice program, but we use a home built unit which in it's latest version use a 3 channel accelerometer with +-16g's in range which also have a 3 channel rotational sensor as well, so we can in theory get a lot of data of the rides we log. Since it's more a project my brother is playing around with, it's really he who have most logs that we have so far. Our accelerometer unit is really small and we have it strapped to our chest, just like a heart rate monitor, just so that we log everything what the rider feels at the heart-line. I agree with you on the normalization aspect and I would love to be able to normalize and do some noise reduction but it requires quite a load of calculations to get right as far as I know, and I'm no programming whiz to be able to get an automated program for it. What programs do you use for normalization and doing the noise reduction, or is that a feature which is built in to the program above? If you want to know more contact my brother, lond here on TPR, to know more.
  7. Massive Helix behind the scenes update 2013-11-12 First of all I would like to really thank the people at Liseberg for creating this opportunity for many of us that are interested in the Helix construction. I have to say that there were a lot more people there than I expected, which was really nice to see. We got access to all the "safe" areas since there were lot's of work going on at all sites, so there are a few spots where I can't give any close up images. But it still easily beats standing on top of a hill/parking structure trying to any great details. We were fortunate to see the top of the second corkscrew were installed, so the track work is progressing nicely, just a few pieces left until the whole section from the drop out of the station to the turn after the second corkscrew is completed. There were still many footers being worked on, so there is plenty of stuff to do before all the track can be put into place. Also, this day marked a big step in the landscaping of the ride where the first 2 out of 200 trees were planted, all these trees will insure that the hill will become as dense and lush as it have before which will make the ride on Helix/Lisebergbanan a real treat. These trees aren't perfect ones (straight and symmetrical) but are allowed to grow as they like to increase the natural look of the area. Getting 2:nd rate trees also allowed Liseberg to get a massive rebate when purchasing them, which is always a plus since those funds can be used to get more themeing, landscaping, etc. Now onto the images!! First up a few from the hill across the highway, then images from the visit and then finally another massive panorama for you all to explore at home Enjoy!! Second corkscrew is getting it's upside down part Second launch getting even more work Now into the park we go, several people have eagerly gathered outside to have a sneak peak of Helix My first close encounter of Helix apart from petting some supports through the fence of the staging area Mmmm, can't wait Getting close where you will be propelled up to 80 Km/h First you will drop down this slope (they have rotated the supports I noted in the earlier pictures Liseberg posted on their blog ) Then you go into these nice looking twisty bit Shoot across the path Fly by the freshly planted trees Tightly sneaking past these old ones 2:nd old tree passage This is the end of the Helix teaser since.. ..once you hit these there is no turning back After the first launch there is a tight passage over the escalator.. ..and into the second corkscrew It's really funny to see how many variations there are on the track on Helix, this one it a bit strange compared to the other ones Atmosfear still dominates Liseberg. Note, there will be a third web-cam coming on-line soon giving a birds eye view of big parts of the building site from the top of Atmosfear <3 This area looks great with Helix zooming past overhead Nice curves Soon to be completed first corkscrew Some winter theming is going in Work is well under way for the massive structure that will be underground to support the Pretzel-loop Mmmmm Several supports for the turnaround that will get you to the in-line area They will fix Lisebergbanan once they start work on the Helix footers here Helix will completely dominate this area, towering 15 meters above Uppswinget which is in itself 20 meters tall More Corkscrew action Second launch looking tall More footers at the Helix helix Somewhere between the zero-g and the helix Helix will dive underneath Lisebergbanan at these brakes and dive into it's helix Also behind (where the people are standing) there is the famous super tight passage into the second launch. Liseberg are confident that it will all fit, but there are still some doubts and we don't really know until the track is installed here Looking back on the Lisebergbanan passage Then we did a little excursion to the staging area, and had a look inside Just a few more pieces here, they really need to get more deliveries to keep on working This piece will go right before the second launch, by the look of these brackets for the cat-walks Mr Crane looking tall Really hard to know where this piece will go, but I would guess it may be a part of the s-turns before the in-line Second launch are going to be epic Another support, this time for Flume Ride, have been removed so that the work on Helix can progress Tight hole from the other direction From here.. ..into oblivion Balders says hi!! Construction HQ Some Reindeer's are living underneath Liseberbanan now before winter, really strange really, must have something to do with the Christmas season that starts this firday Footers are well under way here Mmmmm, In-line twist Looking tall Can't wait to go spinning out of control through here Some more new footers Some that are getting ready to pour Lot's of work still left to do in this area Station through With the future maintenance area next to it, it will be situated onto of all these poles to the left Final footer before you are back into the station The Liseberg wheel looking wicked at night And with this image we near the end of this update. A massive Thank You!! to Liseberg that made this all possible I would love to come back sometime to have another look soon But until the next update, you all have a great time!! Panorama 2013-11-12.zip This is the final piece of this update, another massive panorama of the whole mountain side, download, unzip and explore the whole area yourself. Enjoy!!
  8. Looks like most of the ones we do with our accelerometers. Yours seems to have more noise reduction compared to ours, and we haven't really bothered with normalization as well, so ours still needs work before they look as good as the ones you posted. Not sure how many logs we have at the moment, but I guess that we have logged 300-400 coasters so far. Here is for instance SD2K
  9. Thanks all for the comments. Had another opportunity to drive by the park today, and even if the rain was pouring down the RCS guys were working hard installing the first corkscrew. Shame that the Web-cam are off during the weekend so we can't see anything Yeah it's a shame you couldn't join in. Will do my best to take as many images as possible so you can enjoy the most of it on your computer. Fortunately they said that it's likely that there will be a few more, if not then there are other ways to arrange something similar in the future and I'll give you a heads up if you are interested if it comes to that.
  10. Thanks for the comments!! Before the big update next week here is a little teaser until then: Helix Update - 2013-11-08 They hadn't done any new track installation this week (except for finishing of the second launch) so that was kind of disappointing, I really hope that they add at least one of the corkscrews until the Helix IRL event. They have on the other hand done a lot to the launches and were adding the catwalks when I went past today. Work on the station have been progressing well and they poured one of the side walls on the station trough earlier today. Really can't wait to see some flooring going in. Anyway onto the images, phone only today unfortunately but I promise I'll make up for it next week : Lot's of new track have arrived since last time The one in the middle is for the entrance to the second launch, you can just make out the cat-walk brackets The little supports that were present Loads of twisty goodness, corkscrews most deffiniately Some numbered supports, Judging by the numbers then these will go somewhere around the second launch I reckon Really twisty stuff The whole second launch is now in place They have added a few supports here so I guess that the track may arrive shortly We'll see what's in place early next week, until then have a great weekend!!
  11. ^^ Thank you!! Since this is only the second real soundtrack that Liseberg have then I don't know if they will put it on a CD, but who know if this is the future for the rides in the park then we might see one eventually once they get enough of them. ^ You're welcome!! Not really an update, but Liseberg posted an invite on the blog for behind the scenes tour of Helix on the 12:th. So anyone who have the opportunity to be in Gothenburg that day and is interested then just go to: http://projekthelix.se/nyfiken-pa-helix-irl/ to find out how to sign up (it's in Swedish though so give me a shout if you meed any help signing up). Oh yes, there will be a massive update for those who cant participate Curious on Helix IRL??
  12. ^ Seeing that Helix runs 3 trains and Lisebergbanan 5 then it might not be as long as on other rides that are entwined together.
  13. ^ You are very welcome, I aim to get as many updates as I can. Helix Blog Update + Soundtrack teaser Here are some stuff that Liseberg just released of Helix. A bunch of new renderings which shows ho they envision how the ride will look when all the mud is again covered in trees, grass and other plants. Also thanks to the guys on coasterfriends.de I got a link to a teaser of the Helix soundtrack, it's produced by IMAscore, who also made the soundtrack to the Smiler etc. But before the images here is the soundtrack teaser: I have to say that it sound's really good, I can't wait to hear all of it Sources: Projekthelix.se - Lera och berg ska bli grönska igen First launch Station Down at the bottom of the escalator PRETZEL <3 Second launch Helix
  14. ^ Mail the NL team with your name, email adress, and everything else you can remember and they will send you a new one. They have a big log of everyone that have bought a copy so if you can give them enough to find you on that list means that they know you have bought it in the first place. You are not the first one that have lost it all..
  15. Thanks and ^ LOL As a matter of fact then I got the opportunity to go by the park today as well, but I didn't have the camera with me so no good pictures today, only crappy cellphone ones instead.. Helix + Other Mini update 2013-11-01 They are nearing the first corkscrew with the track so there is a great chance to see it finished by next week, there were also some other track pieces that seems to go at the other end of the first launch so we might actually see both corkscrews up by the end of next week. So soon we might actually see some action on the web cam as well. Also I forgot some mayor Liseberg news yesterday. The park got 11.6 acres larger yesterday, since it was the 31:st of October where the park would officially take over the SAAB factory next to the park which have been abandoned for quite some time now. So Liseberg went from an incredibly landlocked park to one with a massive area to expand with loads of great new rides, which is really great news for Liseberg!! Now onto the pictures I got: These twisty bit are definitely going in the first corkscrew That piece will connect to the first launch and will form the beginning of the second corkscrew Mmmmm, twisty Not a great image, but they are working hard installing track and getting really close to the first corkscrew, at the time of the photo they are just above the tip of the windmill roof Until next time!!
  16. ^ Yeah I see what you mean, but I think that it could have be done in a better fashion, as long as the top-hat will be as slow like the one on Kanonen then it will work out OK. Since that would kill the pacing completely. Now onto a Helix progress report. Helix Blog update - Power + Second launch These were posted yesterday and today and gives a view from inside the park on the progress of Helix. The first images shows the installation of the transformer that will convert the 10kV incoming feed to 690 V which the LSM units want. The other 3 shows the second launch from the other angle that I posted yesterday. Sources: StÀllverk 9 redo för inflyttning Launch 2 i luften! In other news then they poured the big slab that will from the bottom of the trough in the station where the track will run, so a big step have been completed in the station area. Images: Second launch in the other direction .. it's pretty damn massive Doesn't really show the scale from this angle, but.. Here it comes, all 5 tonnes of it It's not really that big, I would have expected something larger to handle the massive 1.5 MW that each launch require
  17. Thanks for the replies! And yes the big image is really great, loads of stuff to take a closer look at, great to have in case I forgot anything to report _koppen, I love Liseberg and also fell in love with Blue Fire on the first ride I had on it on the year it opened, so when Liseberg announced Helix I was in heaven. Thankfully I live a few km away from the park (32.5 to be exact), but I do wish that I would be living even closer, there are several apartments I know of with great views over the park, I do wish I could live in one of them in the future. Back to Helix again, I think that the original layout was better, the flow was better than what final one have, but I still believe that Helix will deliver everything we/I expect from it anyway. I'm just happy that they haven't changed what I see as the best bit of the layout (except for the in-line twist that is), the section between the second corkscrew down to the Pretzel will be epic By the way "Ap0ptosis" I remembered that I had an image I took on a past Helix update visit that I haven't posted here (posted it below), it's of the Lisebergbanan clearance guide, Imagine a tunnel with that shape all around the track which is the safety zone where no objects may interfere with, sure there are a few branches/grass you can reach, but they are not hard objects but there is one tree that feels a bit on the edge though.. Standing upside down on the back-side of the Lisebergbanan station.
  18. You are welcome for the kind words! Here are the web-cam link for the big image of the station area one as well: Click That's exactly what it is. An area where no objects than the train is allowed to be in. I can't find any image of it, but imagine sitting in a coaster train, and then try and reach as far as possible and draw a line where you finger tips are then you have the Clearance Envelope of that train type. They most likely also add about 10 cm to that to be 100 % certain that the riders won't touch anything. The tight area between Lisebergbanan and Flume ride have most likely been laser scanned and then made into a 3d model on which they have added the Lisebergbanan clearance envelope and then tried to put in the Helix one in the space that was left. Without compromising any safety areas, and in the end it means that there is about 10 cm left between each areas or obstacles, aka. a really tight squeeze. Now enough of that now onto some fresh images from earlier today that I was able to take since I had an errand in the Gothenburg area. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Helix Update - 2013-10-30 Lot's of stuff have happened since last Thursday, it's really unbelievable how much they have done in that short period of time, especially considering that there were a storm on Monday evening in the area. Can't wait to see what have happened next week Will do a similar update as last time, first from a near by parking garage, then the staging area and finally the hill on the other side on the motorway that runs close to Liseberg. Now onto images!! Hi again, it's this time again!! Mmmm, green delicious track also seems like they have added one more piece since the CEO update First Corkscrew, can't wait to see the track going in Several new supports since last time for the turn around between the second corkscrew and first airtime hill, which looks incredible twisty <3 Several supports are closer to completion Still a lot of work at the Lisebergbanan lift-hill dive More footers 4 pieces of launch track at the second launch are done, all with their cat-walk supports 3 more pieces of launch track are waiting to go in on the second launch, which means that it will be massive compared to the first one More track and supports <3 Judging by the bends in them, then they are for the section before the first launch, so we might see it completed pretty soon Can't wait until they get to the first corkscrew More track Not much here, but still plenty to keep the construction moving forward loads of supports, some of them are ridiculously short A lone piece of track in it's own little section Woah, seems like they need more stuff at the buildingsite Great use of the Atmosfear car, hoisting up the lighting for the massive "Christmas tree" that they transform the big tower into every winter Another close-up on the turn into the launch I said earlier that they had installed the number 3 support the wrong orientation, looking at this then the number 4 one seems a bit off as well If I remember correctly then support number 33 and 34 are missing to complete the second corkscrew supports After adding the last 3 pieces of launch track here, then it will be almost twice as long, and the bottom area will be below the Flume-ride trough at the inverted ice-cream cone Here is the tight squeeze I have been talking about, Helix will turn through that little hole into the second launch Overview of the first area I did a panorama this time as well Panorama 2013-10-30.zip And if you fancy a massive version to have a closer look of the area then just download this zip file and enjoy that panorama in all it's glory. Much better than the low resolution web-cam image. This is the end of this update, will post more images in the future the next time I'm able to have a look at the Helix building site. Until then, have a good one!!
  19. ^ Yeah, they were really working late last night to get all the supports in, it looked like they also considered to put in the first piece yesterday on the web cam, but it went in early this morning instead, so a total of 4 pieces were installed today. The storm wasn't as bad as everyone though, sure it was pretty windy for about an hour here, and since it was late in the evening then it's not much of an issue with the construction of Helix. Since that image they have added 3 more pieces to the launch, so now it reaches from where the small Ferris Wheel is to the piece you see in the image, and I think that there will be at least 2 more sections that will be added to it since it will work as a MCBR as well as a launch, the first launch won't really be much of a block though. It will be really interesting to see how tall the inverted top-hat will be, it might stick up pretty tall over Uppswinget. They need it to be that steep since, that's the only way that they can clear all the other stuff and still get the super tight Lisebergbanan/Flumeride passage (10 cm on each side on the Helix clearance envelope ).
  20. After a massive storm yesterday the second launch is going in. Image from the Helix web-cam: Second launch is going in!!
  21. Found a new source of Helix images, this time it's a fellow coaster enthusiast that have full access to the Helix building site. Liseberg CEO Andreas Andersen He says in his blog that he takes daily trips to the building site just to enjoy it, and the image below really gives you a great overview of the scale of the turnaround into the first launch. Source to the image blow: Andreas Blogg - Lite mer Helix ... Most supports for the turnaround between the second corkscrew and the first airtime hill have been put into place according to the web-cam image now. EDIT: It seems like the second launch is going to go in next, since they have already put up 2 supports for it since this morning. They are working hard even in really awful weather with a massive storm on the way. Link to big Web Cam image A proud CEO with Helix
  22. ^ Yeah, I know what you mean, especially looking down that launch track and see that turn down at the other end is really something. And on the new plants bit, then yes absolutely, Liseberg needs trees to be able to keep the feel of the park. It's the same thing with Kaninlandet I think, it looks a bit clinical at the moment, the trees needs to grow quite a bit until it reaches it's full potential. The second image I posted got me thinking though. The support closest to the camera seems to have been put in at a wrong orientation, there is no way that I can thing that it and the following ones will be able to line up any piece of track, that banking seems way out of place since the drop into the first corkscrew is in the same direction as the photo and it drops straight down without any bankings?? Hmmm..
  23. Thank you all for the kind words!! Helix Blog Update Here are some more images that Liseberg posted on the Helix blog (there are a few more at the blog itself): The first pieces of track that I saw yesterday are already in place, can't wait for more!! Source
  24. Ahh, now it makes sense, that one is also for the corkscrew, it's tilted so that it can reach over the escalator so that there won't be too far between the top support and the small one on the other side.
