  1. Decided to try out the demo first, and it installed a treat. Now I'm going for a deeper look EDIT: tried and change to fullscreen in the settings, and it completely broke NL2 Will try to reinstall.
  2. ^ Thank you!! Just wanted to add that they will resume the erection of the ride on Monday!! So tune in the web-cams starting Monday morning CET: http://projekthelix.se/hem/nyheter/ Next week the winter will finally arrive here in Sweden, so I really hope that it won't hinder the progress for the RCS guys too much. Other updates will come as they are available, but I hope that I can post some images each week until it's done. But even if the steel have been put on hold during the winter holidays, there have been plenty of progress with the rest of the ride. Until next time, here are a couple of web-cam images. The station have moved along much since they shut after the winter season. The Scaffolding have been put up today for instance, so we will definitely see some wall action soon. They are still working hard to get the last few footers in place. The Pretzel area is progressing slowly, but they poured a large slab only yesterday, I really hope that the footers in the area prove to be less difficult.
  3. I don't think that at all, Mack Mega >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Intamin Accelerator coaster.
  4. I would almost say that I don't use any of these sites, but I do browse through Youtube a couple of times a week and that's about it.
  5. I'm surprised that no one have said Expedition Geforce yet. I was really underwhelmed when I rode it for the first time, you really felt the trims tugging in the train as you went past and the rest of the layout felt really sluggish and didn't deliver the airtime I had gotten the impression that it could deliver.
  6. I would say that they use the same kind of power if they need to launch the train to the same speed. The difference might be that the electric version may be a lot simpler to make, but will use more power over shorter time than the hydraulic based system.
  7. SWEET!! Will have to see if my old computer survives it, or if I might update it which I sort of have planned at around that time.
  8. Found this video on a German coaster forum which is very interesting, it shows how they are reducing the peak power draw on Juvelen at Djurs Sommerland, by using one of it's two launches as a flywheel set up to give the other launch an extra boost. This probably explains why this ride uses electric motors compared to the previous installations which uses a hydraulic systems in a similar fashion as an Accelerator coaster, to keep the peak power usage on a low level.
  9. Some more Liseberg stuff, starting with Kanonen: Kanonen have used 4 variations of OSTR restraints so far. First one was the slim hard bands, then they added big padding around them to stop neck/head slashing, then came the slim hard ones with a raised edge along the neck and now finally the soft west with nylon covering, which is a massive improvement in rider comfort. When it first opened then it regularly destroyed the hydraulic hoses between the shot-tanks and the motors, due to the fact that no one really did the calculations to check what type of hose was needed due to the pressure. It have also ripped a good number of cables in it's lifetime so far. The Kanonen launch is one of the most powerful ones on any Accelerator coaster, which is kind of surprising seeing it's small size. Then some Lisebergbanan ones as well: A cold train need to be full on the first few runs so that it won't valley before the wheel grease gets up to temperature. This leads to that Lisebergbanan have some of the longest queues at the beginning of the day, since they usually starts with just 2 trains, this usually aggravates the normal park goers, who don't understand this concept, more trains are of course added during the day if it's needed. Due to this they will rope in random employees in the park to fill up the train if they need to test it when the park is closed. Lisebergbanan still uses an old relay based control computer, it's incredibly hard to troubleshoot and will lock down the whole ride if the trains start to go too fast. Not because they are too fast for the ride to make it unsafe, but the relays fails to trigger as the trains past due to the speed. This will however be fixed in the coming years when Lisebergbanan will get a much needed upgrade with modern technologies, which will allow the ride to be even faster Also I finish this section off with an image of the Lisebergbanan "Tank", which is a rescue vehicle to save stranded trains on the ride and tow them back to the station. It's petrol/hydraulic vehicle with a top speed of 1 mile/hour, meaning that it will take about 1 hour to do the full circuit with it. It used to be a manned so that it required a driver to be operated, but now it have been made wireless, so the "driver" will walk on the ground instead. The Liseberg tank.
  10. Thanks a lot everyone!! Agree, but then again, it was pretty nice yesterday, sure beats -15°C anyway On one of the good days this winter they brought in a massive 44000 visitors, that's about 10% of the total attendance on the whole of a normal winter season, in ONE DAY. Incredible! Nrthwnd: I wish you the same. rctneil: it's just less than 17 weeks to go until their open again Not at all On another note, there was an article in the paper today that there were a small fire on the roof on the main stage at Liseberg yesterday evening after a misfire during the fireworks show, we completely missed it, but thankfully it was only a small one which the Liseberg personnel managed to extinguish themselves. 11. Helix Update - last update for 2013!! So today is the second to last day that Liseberg is open for this year, and since I don't have the time to do an update tomorrow then it will have to be done today This was the first time that Liseberg is opened in the days between Christmas and New Year, in the years before they shut the day before Christmas so this was a bit of a novelty. And during these days after Christmas they are having a small fireworks every evening which is always nice. As I said in the last update I did, I had a look through the stands to see what they had to offer in terms of food , well, it was mostly candy tbh. , but that don't really matter I scored some lovely fudge to bring with me home and well as a pig made from marzipan, which was requested from my dad. Anyway onto the pictures, and we start as always with some shots at the Helix staging ground!! This time before dark so you can actually see what they have laying around Lots of different size supports This is the catwalk for the turn at the station These may be part of the Pretzel or the Zero-g Loads of stuff The RCS crane is still here And a final shot of the staging area Since they had hiked the price on the parking area next to the staging area (it used to be a low cost alternative) we decided to go to the part of the city that is across the highway at Liseberg and scored some free parking on a side-street (around 5 minute walk from the park itself), and thanks to that we also got a lovely view of the park on the way there Here we go!! Mmmmm, Helix Delicious Can't wait for them to install the track down this slope. Seems like they have just done the last footer in this area This is the only area (that I know of) that still need it's footers (there is apparently much harder for them to make the footers here, must be the famous Gothenburg mud.. Looks just as good as ever Really close call with the escalator Weee, Upside down!! This area is closed due to attraction assembly Just think that the top-hat will be almost twice as tall as Uppswinget, it's going to be MASSIVE!! Mmmmm Can't really see that much down the slope, but the pretzel is going to look huge down the hill A lot of the stuff are done, but there is still plenty to do Lot of cables have been installed so far Footers for the final in-line The final footers are also in place Almost looks like they have added a wall to make the building whole again The station have risen a lot since last time I was here A sneak peak into the queue area The roof will soon go in, I guess that they are waiting for the track pieces to go in before they will close it all up Just the roof and walls to go in before it will look a lot more as a complete station Plenty of space underneath here And a lot more under the maintenance shed Back down the mountain again Helix is looking tall up on the mountain, can't wait for it to meander across the whole of the hillside Still some work to do here to fix the footers on Lisebergbanan Not much to see here, but it's still going to be awesome once it's all done Enough of helix, here are some lovely fudge instead And some roasted almonds Mmmm, love these!! Marzipan cigars Part of the medieval marketplace with loads of wooden weaponry Random wild animals stuffed into sausages Perfect placement of the medieval market They made genuine medieval artefacts here Liseberg with lights And some kind of goat , sheep and hens Kanonen is taking a winter nap A great place for a meal Cabbage, sauce, preserved uncooked lingonberry and a load of delicious Suovas (smoked reindeer meet)/Elk kebab in bread. This is heaven!! Onwards!! Mmmmm, meat of various animals Care for a nibble Wait what, no reindeer's?? The sign says that they have all left together with Santa Claus at Christmas, I really doubt it since I most likely ate some of them a little bit earlier The Santa's work shop is -> that way, good to know.. Looking epic!! This one too Mmmm, more delicious things, I'm pretty sure that these were filled with raspberries or custard Mmmm, various stuff thrown on "Chocolate bread", wonder how much "bread" there are in these things More high calories stuff Don't get me started on these "pigs" One of the best additions of 2013 Along with this EPIC Lovely Kaninlandet Got a little glimpse of the Ice show Loads of reindeer's on ice And Liseberg rabbits And an awesome Glockenspiel It was a really spectacular show A shame that we didn't arrive earlier to see the whole thing (or at least see anything at all, too many people and not enough space to be able to see above them that were standing in front of you) Then after another wait (this time we grabbed a great space to be able to see the whole thing) the fireworks begun!! A great combination between lighting, music and of course fireworks Great Christmas themed music And even though the fireworks itself were pretty small it felt massive together with all the lighting effects More MORE And the FINALE!! By Liseberg for this year, see you next season with loads of Helix action!! And with this I bid you all a happy new year, see you in 2014!!
  12. Yeah, I know that you have posted the minimum requirements to run NL2, but I was more looking for what would be recommended to get a good experience with a fair amount of eye candy switched on. So it would work the same way that the video capture will work in NL1 then, I just asked about that computer since I doubt that you run a minimum spec one to test out NL2 on.
  13. A small question on systems specifications for NL2: I'm pretty sure that you haven't finalized the systems requirements yet, but would you able to give a basic run-down on the computer (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS, etc.) on which the recently released videos were made on to give us a hit on what is needed for a good experience?
  14. Love the images, the more the better Keep them coming!!
  15. I'm hoping for the Mack Mega coaster <3
  16. Mini-update Some images from last night, there is loads of new stuff at the staging area now, and judging by the numbers of the parts then it looks like both the pretzel and the inverted top-hat are here in pieces, so there won't take that long before they would be completed once they start again with the erection. Looking gorgeous.. ..and the "tree" is massive Loads of new track since the blizzard update Catwalk for the turn between the final brakes and station There isn't much space left outside I think that these twisty bits will be part of the pretzel All nice and ordely Close up Can't wait for all these pieces to be installed
  17. A small update with some information regarding Helix and the funicular was posted on the Blog today, together with the video posted earlier. The funicular is a work in progress at this point, so there might take some time until it's opened, but it's a key investment that needs to be done to increase the accessibility to the top of the hill. There are still several steps left before we will see any press releases etc. So we just have to wait and see when it is done and opened. About Helix, then there is plenty of parts that have arrived over the past few weeks and they there are daily deliveries so the staging area is filling up nicely, just hope that they have plenty of space to be able to receive it all before they start to build the Helix puzzle. The further erection of the coaster will start on the 13:th of January so there is still some time until then. There are only a few footers left that needs pouring and the station building is rising fast, and they won't wait for the installation of the track but push on as much as possible to get everything ready as soon as possible. So there will be no more Blog updates until the work really starts to pick up the pace next year. Link: http://projekthelix.se/god-jul-och-gott-nytt-helix-ar-2014/ Can't wait to see the ride rise tall over the hill
  18. Just imagine how great it will look in spring when they start testing with trains This was a dream come true, I have always wanted to see some quad-copter footage of the Helix construction, WANT MOAR!!
  19. At the moment there isn't. I can understand where you're coming from on this though and it's something we can think about for a future update. Great to hear!!
  20. One question for the Dev team, which is one something that it really bothering me on the NL 1 version, which were sort of fixed on an update when I mailed you about it, but then later removed with the next update. It's about when you input decimal values into any preferences in NL. In NL you use (in the English version at least) the '.' character to denote the decimal, which is commonly found on the numpad on English language keyboards. Here in Sweden we use ',' instead, and it's also the one that is featured on our numpads on the Swedish keyboard layouts. So every time I forget to use the '.' decimal when inputting a value I get a pop-up saying that "Please enter number"(most settings) or the decimals are removed (vertex panel). Is there a way for you in NL2 where you can choose which kind of dot you want to use or would it be able to use both interchangeably (so that it don't really matter which one your language settings use as a decimal point)?
  21. ^ Nope, we know nothing at all, just what Andreas Andersen said on the convention linked above, which means that we know that they are going to build one, that it will go between the bottom of the park and up to the tower complex and that it will cost 2M€, nothing more.
  22. Balder is indirectly named after the Norse god. It's sort of "themed" after a local football club Örgryte IS (ÖIS for short). The name Balder comes from the field where ÖIS were founded in 1887, the field is called Balders Hage (Balder's Meadows), which probably received it's name from some horse called Balder that grazed it before that. The field itself were located where Balder stands today. Also the colours of the trains of Balder also bears a connection with the same football club, their team colours are Red and Blue, hence the colours of the trains. So Balder is the only football themed coaster (that I know of) that exist in this world (No, Eurosat during the world cup in Germany 2006 which were covered to look like a football don't really count ).
  23. ^^ Seeing that they are digging up half of the hill-top due to Helix, then there is no time like the present to start work (as long as the temperatures allow for it). I guess that it have something to do with the last couple of years when the winter stayed on for a lot longer than planned, so that they only had a few short weeks to prepare the park for the start of the summer season, so starting early then there would be more time to finish of everything with time to spare. As a matter of fact, the first trees were put in several weeks ago, just before the behind the scenes tour. ^ Neither had I or anyone else outside the park until Andreas said it on the convention last week. As Ap0ptosis said on the previous page: Helix Blog Update - Landscaping have commenced Images!! It's going to be close in a couple of years Working hard for your enjoyment This image gives me Lapland flashbacks, just the snow that is missing to get the full effect More tight trees
