A Change for the Better
pkdcoaster replied to Airtime&Gravity's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Of course all Premier OTSR to lap bars. Somehow Phoenix gets better every year Other than that I suppose just the reliablility in high tech rides after the 1st or 2nd season. (Volcano, TTD, XLC, etc.) JEFF -
It seems that most people here always trash CF for having too many trash cans (and concrete) in their parks. I do not understand the complaint here. I personally don't notice them when I go to CF parks. I do notice that CF parks are MUCH cleaner than 6 Flags parks and that stands out in my mind alot more. I have never heard a general park guest say "there are just too many trash cans here" but at other parks you do hear "this place is disgusting there is trash everywhere" It seems parks just can't win with us. Can CFI Undo Paramount's Handy Work
pkdcoaster replied to mrhambone's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I miss the old days too, but I understand why things are done. I would love nothing more than to go back to the 80's and visit KD but that is because it has been 16+ years since. If the park had stayed the same throughout the years it would get very Boring very fast (see BGW). I want new and fun coasters and rides every year and if that means changing the park than so be it, you can't have it both ways. JEFF -
Transformers: The Movie Trailer Released!
pkdcoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
I will wait for opinions of fans, To me it looks like a story that just has Transformers plugged in. (Similar to Street Fighter and everybody knows how that movie was) I will say wait till DVD for now but maybe if I have some hours to kill at a layover in DC I might see it. I would rather see DH4 but I cannot see both these movies coming out the same day. JEFF -
PTR: Winterfest @ Paramount's Carowinds!
pkdcoaster replied to jarmor's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I was about to say... I thought they canned this? It seems a waste to spend all the money on equipment & lights for one year only then just let it all rot in storage. Anyway thanks for the christmasy (uh oh not PC!!!!) pics Jarmor JEFF -

Timesplitters 2 is considered the best traditional FPS on GC (made by the same guys that made Goldeneye) It is pretty good but it is hard for me to get into FPS's for some reason (maybe cause I have no one to play with) JEFF

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
pkdcoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
For those interested- It is still standing as of today (12-15-06) with no visable cranes in the area. I highly doubt they will replace it with a rocket coaster. The park BADLY needs a ride with capacity and reliability. This park has NO problems with Height restrictions yet the tallest coaster (XLC) is 165ft They really need a hyper coaster, or a solid big coaster (no gimmick) The last major NON-launched coaster was Hurler in 1994. Most people that go to PKD say "I guess they don't make coasters with chains anymore" JEFF -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
pkdcoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can always see it (big hill) from the Train. so I can give you guys an update if it is still standing which I am pretty sure it is since it is still on the website (It was standing 2 weeks ago.......but so was SOB's loop) Most parks keep the rides up in case a potential buyer wants to ride. (See Drachen Fire) JEFF -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
pkdcoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not surprising, I think they should just remove the hill It is a maintenance nightmare........nobody wants it, why do you think nobody else in America has bought one? http://www.italintl.com/tools/photo2.php?record_id=937 I love this effect, like nobody knows where it is located I wonder if it will open this year Don't know if it means anything but XLC used to have its own page on the site, now it is just mentioned on the thrill rides page. Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
pkdcoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I am glad to hear about the 2nd wavepool cause the 1st one is tiny for the crowds PKD gets and the new slides sound awesome...They really need some new ones since they have been taken alot out lately. Interesting thing is I would have thought they would have dropped the Paramount logo from the park, But in all the recent shirts/merchandise and THIS press release they refer to the park as Kings Dominion. Another Dorkish observation I drive by the park when I have a VRE job (commuter rail) and ALOT of the neon was out on the park sign and I figured they would have just redone the sign for this year rather than replace the neon but yesterday the sign was decked out with new (not different) Neon lights and they even made the scrolling text on the sign Bolder. So I guess the Paramount logo is staying. Does this seem odd to anyone else? JEFF -

I am very sorry to hear this, I remember your announcement post and how excited you were. I don't know how anybody can handle that kind of situation without falling apart. (I know I would) I know it was very hard to write that but I appreciate you taking the time to let us know of your sad loss, I also think it was a great thing (although hard) to have pictures taken of your family with your princess. My thoughts are with you and your family. JEFF -
Video Game Hardware sales for Nov 06
pkdcoaster replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Random, Random, Random
Cheap system, Cheap Great games. If you never had a console before and you wanted the most bang for your buck. The PS2 is clearly the winner. Also alot of peoples PS2s could have died recently so you need a replacement JEFF -
NPD data DS = 918,000 PS2 = 664,000 GBA = 641,000 360 = 511,000 Wii = 476,000 PSP = 412,000 PS3 = 197,000 Nintendo sold- 2,035,000 systems (Not counting GC's) Sony Sold- 1,273,000 systems Pretty sad that Sony did not even ship 200k PS3's in November I am very surprised that GBA is still selling that well with the DS being such a mega hit. I wonder if this counts the Micro as well, I bought a GBM last month for $40 and it is a very sleek and cool little system with a great screen. Alot of people cannot believe PS2 has not gone down to $99 yet, but why would they if it is still selling that well. JEFF

Another photo update from BGEscape with photos from the ground on a hard hat tour. Very cool pics again. (also very wise of them to remove the skyride cable during construction, I figured they would have done it right after closing the ride though) http://www.bgescape.com/Gallery/thumbnails.php?album=24 JEFF

On-Ride Coaster Video
pkdcoaster replied to coastervekoma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They had the setup ready on Taxi Jam all year but never launched it, I am not sure why...you would think if they could get it working on any coaster it would be Taxi Jam. I am surprised they did not try to put it on Volcano. How is the Video quality on these? (is it jumpy, low res, any screenshots?) TIA, JEFF -
You have to remember that Alpengeist is built in the ravine. the actual lift hill is about 165ft. so Griffon will look much taller since it is 205ft above ground level not Rhine river level. I went by on the Train last night and the tree was not even lit up....cheapos I can see the tree on top of the brewery clear as day though. The track looks massive with the stairs added to it. Nice find Chuck, thanks JEFF

I was about to say. You shouldn't bash Tony too much, his games are pretty much the main reason Activision is still a big player IMO. 8 straight games that have sold at least 500,000 right? Anyway I think it is better than Mr 6. Mr. Hawk is a bigger hero than Batman to most teenagers nowadays. so it makes sense. JEFF

Parking robbery!
pkdcoaster replied to RCoasterny's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I used to think $10 was obscene for parking till I saw what parking rates were in downtown D.C.. A couple blocks from the capital is $15 per hour or about $50 a day!!!! JEFF -
Well it has been a pretty hectic week! On 11-30-06 at 12:14pm My daughter was born weighing 7lbs 10 oz We named her Abigail (I call her Abby). Mom and Abby are doing great. Elizabeth was a real trooper, she had a real tough pregnancy (morning sickness for all 9 months ) But She had a really easy labor (comparitively) only 4.5 hours from induction to birth. Here are some pics of my newly expanded family. JEFF Here we are Chillin Usually Aidan doesn't want anything to do with her but he did hold her for about 10 seconds (Aidan will be 3 next month) here is my pretty little girl here we are, happy it is all over fresh out of the oven
