  1. I was so close to the Habit but we weren't able to fit it in. Portillo's is great! I've stopped there in the city after a flight and seen people that were on my flight in line
  2. Mobile works like normal.
  3. Cashew chicken is delicious! Haha. Everyone likes their fries a bit different so it's subjective. I totally forgot to mention that I rode the (Moser? ) drop/bouncy tower and it was surprisingly great! The pier does have a great collection of quirky street performers and musicians.
  4. Great photos! Looks like it's the only park in the area that isn't under water I bet there was enough rain you could have gone down the slides. Can't wait to check out the park sometime this year!
  5. Always good to hear that they're improving capacity on these type attractions, but they're still such a hassle. I'm happy that Busch Gardens is excited about this ride and that it's a only a 42" requirement, but it's not going to be something that I'm going to visit. I will put on my sunglasses and look at the beautiful landscaping around the park instead!
  6. That's incredible! Nice work spotting the park from that far away. I only think 1% of TPR realizes how impressive that shot is.
  7. No, no, NO it's not! Please, do NOT make posts on our forum if you are clueless to what you are talking about or if you aren't going to bother to take 30 seconds to look up the information before you come here and post "fake news" making yourself look just as stupid as the people who are contributing to that campaign. Screen Shot 2018-02-28 at 1.53.43 PM.png[/attachment] Seriously this took me LESS THAN THIRTY SECONDS to find the answer. Again, how stupid do you have to be to make a post like yours which is totally incorrect without even bothering to fact check what you just posted? This is a really important post! It's unbelievably stupid that people just assume they get their money back when putting forth 0 research/effort in understand what they're getting into. I've seen so many people get burned on commissions/toys/"limited releases" that have just flat out failed and the money invested in an idea is lost.
  8. AlllllrrrrrIIIiiiiiIIIiiiight! We've made it to the final installment! I'll make it quick. Driving back from JTree to LA, we stopped at an In'n'Out once we were in city limits to see what the buzz is about. Yeah, the fries are a goddamn shame compared to the accompanying burger. Don't waste your money. If you're not knowledgeable about your fries (we take fresh cut fries seriously in Chicago) - potatoes are very starchy, so you need to fry them twice to get a nice golden brown crispy yet fluffy on the inside. In'n'Out only does a single fry, leaving the potatoes limp, soggy, and bland. I heard you can get them well done but that's not the point, why are you serving them as is to millions of people. Fooled me once. Burger was good -fresh toppings (I got grilled onions + pickles), nice bun, good patties. It's right up there with a Shake Shack or Smashburger - and even just as expensive/cheaper than a McDonald's premium burger combo. TLDR - yeah it's a great fast casual burger, but will not compete with the likes of your favorite pub burger or upscale burger; especially if you favor bacon on your burger or guac/jalapenos. We had one task - drop Mark at the airport, shed the rental car so we didn't have to worry about parking or driving. I was getting flashbacks to Andrew's (ytterbiumanalyst) moment in Philly as we were getting gas that accidentally happened to be in Inglewood and not 5 minutes in the gas station I saw: 1) drug deal 2) shop lifting I never felt in danger but it was hilarious watching the teen employee recognize this couple that seemed to frequently pocket whatever they wanted and drop off drugs in the bathroom for someone to pick up After those shenanigans, we walked up and down Sunset blvd to see some record shops, comic shops, and a recommended happy hour + city view. Mondial Hotel's bar provided a cool space with a pool and view, but it also came with the most cliche LA people we've met. https://sunsettrocadero.com/ For half off apps and drinks for HH "You went to Joshua Tree???? It's just desert right?" "Joshua Tree??? What happens if your phone died while you were hiking and you got lost?" "What happens if the sun went down and you couldn't get any service to find the road?????" Well, then we'd be pretty bad at planning. But they kept stammering and couldn't get over the fact that we 'risked our lives to see some plants and rocks'. I'm glad I got to meet the stereotypical LA airheads. After a couple drinks we headed over to Santa Monica area to drop our stuff off. We heard a lot about the Bungalow, both good and bad and decided to check it out before our West Side Comedy show. Cool space, decent drinks, not very crowded on a Monday night; which was a good thing. http://www.thebungalow.com/ West Side Comedy was also fantastic putting 3 improv teams against each other. I prefer stand up and sketch to improv, but when improv is good it's really good. When it's bad, it's really bad. The first team bombed (and were still arguing with each other in the alley after the show let out ) and the other 2 were A+. http://www.westsidecomedy.com/ We called it an early night and got up early to walk up and down the beach all morning, and of course went to Santa Monica Pier when it opened. West Coaster - this is as about as low as I'll go for a credit. It's a tame, short family coaster. What's hilarious is you're so deep in those Morgan trains kids can't even see over the seat in front of them 10 dollars gets you the credit. We went up and down Abbott Kinney to check out shops/eats. URTH Caffe! https://www.urthcaffe.com/ Holy shit the best coffee I've had. I like coffee, don't love it but I had espresso drinks and black coffee that was immaculate. I'm a huge fan of Hispanic food and the tamales here were legit. I love the mantra of this place - serving food/drinks with ingredients as close to how they're found in the wild as possible. Example - olives have pits, etc. Salt + Straw had great ice cream https://saltandstraw.com/la-locations/ Hope this helps out anyone looking for ideas/reccs in LA! That's it for this trip! See you next month! -Zach #1 grilled + pickle. Great burger, eff you fries. A look down the hill from Sunset BLVD This looks cool, let's check it out It's weird, it's frustrating, it's magical, it's got everything, and it's full of opportunities Chillin' like a star This looks familiar... Drinks at the Bungalow If I'm not at a park, I'm usually at a comedy show or music act Shred r die broh It's a perfect day for a coaster on the beach Too cold for the ocean, though $10, cha ching. You get to go around twice. Chocolatier's Coney Island special at Salt & Straw on Abbott Kinney Space inspiration in LA.
  9. Totally missed the memo on that one, but I was out of town anyways... sounds like an awesome time! Love the Empty Bottle - even more now that we're without the DoubleDoor.
  10. Opening day is March 24th (Saturday)! I believe that's a week earlier than last year, or maybe I'm going to a week later this year. None of the coasters particularly excite me, but I'll be in NYC opening weekend so that gives me an opportunity to visit a new park. Lots of unique flats and rides here + easy public transportation are big pluses in my book! http://lunaparknyc.com/plan/park-hours/
  11. Neither I nor my friends listen to U2, but we figured we should play one of their songs as we were climbing and Elevation suited the climb nicely Thanks! It definitely took me a couple attempts to find it before I bumped into a cast member that helped lead the way. It's the handicap entrance, I believe. For sure utilize it. You wait in line and they send you down in groups of 5-8, and I never waited more than 10 minutes when the regular line was approaching 80 minutes.
  12. Great looking photo! Maybe we'll see the second inversion by the weekend.
  13. Wouldn't surprise me. If you live nearby, that's not much different than working or studying at a Starbucks. Granted Starbucks doesn't charge admission, but some of these AP's have been paying monthly payments for so long that they barely even notice that money going out the door anymore. Even with this latest price hike, that AP is still no higher than the cable bill or the cell phone bill. So in that sense, it really is almost the same as going to the local Starbucks. During my visit I encountered some APs in the single rider/FP lines that were so numb to everything around them - just there to get a ride or two in. Here I was, on cloud 9 waiting for Space Mountain and you've got guy reading a book with headphones in just going through the motions. I know the magic can wear off but it was almost a buzz kill. I wouldn't be surprised if people go there for study/work if it's that convenient.
  14. Great report! I've really enjoyed reading since my DL visit and plan on getting to Orlando this year or next so, I'm definitely taking notes on strategy.
  15. Worthy bump: The current historic flooding has put Coney Island under water again, and this time it might be higher than the current flood marks on many buildings at the park. This video was posted today.
  16. Woah - did anyone else miss this?! Maverick adding the tunnel effects back is great news! Can anyone that was there elaborate any further on what was said? Or was that it? Thanks!
  17. Thanks everyone! There will still be another roller coaster in the trip report, but here's the Joshua Tree update. Continuing with things working out perfectly - Knott's is right off the highway on the way to Joshua Tree! Perfect. I had my 3 friends pick me up and we stopped at Porto's Bakery, around the corner from Knott's. http://www.portosbakery.com/content/portos-bakery-cafe-buena-park Porto's is an unbelievable Cuban/international bakery shop which features stunning cakes, meat pies, potato balls, empanadas, and so much more! It's very busy, but the place is so well organized you won't spend too long in line. I got 5 things and only spent $7. Stocked up on good food, we made the 2 hour drive East to Joshua Tree National Park. We got a great airbnb 2 bedroom with a hot tub just outside the park for only 100 a night. (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/9443663?location=Joshua%20Tree%2C%20CA%2C%20United%20States&adults=4&children=0&infants=0&guests=4&check_in=2018-02-17&check_out=2018-02-19&s=RP42KXqe - Airbnb) Joshua Tree NP is absolutely massive - it takes about 3 hours to drive through. It seems like the amount of trails and climbing spots are limitless. If you like camping, hiking, bouldering, rock climbing, you've got to visit this place. Outside of the park there's plenty of good eats and places to grab a beer at, so you're not in a remote wild west town. BUT if that's what you want, just a couple miles over is Pioneertown, CA which looks like it's stuck in the old western times. It was hilarious that no one we talked to in LA had been to Joshua Tree, but had heard of it and thought it's just 'desert' or 'a place to trip balls' or 'the park near Coachella'. I love music festivals and live music, but I think it would be criminal to go all the way out to Coachella/Palm Springs and not see the other-worldy wonder that is Joshua Tree. Next up ....LA + Santa Monica! This is just one tiny section of Porto's Sweet or Savory - they have it all! Part of my haul Let's climb up a little for a better view Fast forward to our first hike + sunset It was like seeing these colors for the first time Peace and quiet takes a whole new meaning out here. Who knows how old this guy is It's not even 6pm but it's getting very dark very fast! This is a Joshua Tree. If you don't know, now you know. This looks very sharp. I wish this picture could show more depth - the scene just went on forever. There were even white capped mountains. Just us and mother nature. Tons of rocks to climb around on. Friendship is rare The Cholla cactus garden...just incredible Notice all the little ones on the ground? Yeah it was like walking through a mine field They just went on for MILES! So surreal! Unlimited places to hike and climb.. I'd be out there for a month if I could Album cover #8 Cactus....sharp!!!! One last shot from the Cholla cactus world.
  18. Seriously? I didn't even know that was a real thing. Luckily, if people get too dizzy on Steel Vengeance they will have to wait in an hour line before they ride it again. (on slow days) When Paramount had the "Two Times Tuesday" rides for Gold Passers Son of Beast had it for a minute, but then it was taken away.
  19. Might be the only factor keeping the lines from being astronomical. CP probably won't need a "no re-rides" rule to prevent people from getting too dizzy from riding over and over. The only ride I've encountered with that sign/rule was Son of Beast
  20. Epic photos! Vengeance will be such a great ride. Riding in every row will be a goal of mine this year.
  21. They are a little bulky up by the eyes so I wouldn't wear them for pure practical use. The quality is similar to a go pro, the videos look amazing!
  22. Wow it's going up fast! Great pictures lond!
  23. It's time to bounce over to Disneyland! Since I saved some time, I figured I'd explore downtown Disney and get a bite to eat since my FP for Indiana Jones was at 9:10p. It was pretty packed but I was able to snag a seat at the bar @ La Brea! https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/downtown-disney-district/la-brea-bakery-cafe/menus/ I ended up passing on food and just sticking with beer, haha. They had a great selection of beer on tap and the bartender was happy to charge my phone while I had a few beers and chat it up. The Racer 5 IPA is friggin' tasty, one of the best west coast IPA's IMO. After some time to sit down and relax for a bit, I couldn't tame my excitement to get on Space Mountain. I figured I'd go check it out first since there was a single rider line and maybe I could get lucky with a ride or two before Indiana Jones. Tomorrowland at night is spectacular and I was elated to see that the single rider line was able to get me on in just 5-15 minutes. The regular line was over an hour so I found my way down to a group of fellow singles and we were quickly forwarded down into the station where I was lucky to score a front seat ride! This is my favorite Space Mountain. The James Bond-In-Space music that blasts throughout the whole ride is just so perfect and honestly I did not remember it being as dark as it was in the coaster section! I could barely see anything but the specs of white floating around. Space Mountain is just pure fun for everyone; it's so fast paced! Pop of airtime, turn, pop of air, turn, helix, pop, repeat. I was really buzzin' as I came off the ride! I had been up since 3:30am, had walked over 10 miles, crossed off all possible coasters at Knott's, got one the two new (for me) attractions at DCA, and checked off my favorite Disney coaster WAY SOONER than I had imagined. The delicious mix of drinks along the way was also adding fuel to my fire, too I still had another 30-40 minutes until my Indiana Jones reservation, so I just re-rode Space Mountain a couple more times. The insanely efficient load/unload process is amazing to watch/experience in person, and the lift up to the changing/flashing light tunnel before the main lift never fails to get me hyped up. I was definitely making a case for happiest person in Disneyland last Friday, haha Okay, time for Indiana Jones! At this point, it was looking very likely that I'd be able to get on IJ then skip across to DCA for one more ride on Cars + Guardians of the Galaxy if everything worked out right. The queue for Indiana Jones is as legendary as the ride itself and I *love* the cheezy ride instruction video before you get to the platform. We boarded the car and set off on the journey. I had seen that IJ was down when I first checked the map upon arriving on Disney grounds, so I think it was still having issues on my ride. There wasn't any fire, most of the sets were very hard to see, which made it a very lackluster ride knowing what it's like at 100%. Seriously, I could barely see the snakes, the bridge didn't have any fire or lava beneath it, and it just made the effects seem random. It's still an amazing ride and I'm happy I was able to get on it, but I didn't return for another ride when I probably could have. Time for the big time crunch. It's 9:30. DCA closes at 11pm. I jogged out of Disneyland and over to DCA straight to Cars and grabbed a beer before getting in the single rider line. It wasn't as long as it was before, so I was able to get on and off by 10:15. I went straight over to Guardians after that and got one more ride before going back to Disneyland for a couple more rides on Space Mountain before it was time for the park to close. I got an uber and was home by 12:45pm. I had nearly been up 24 hours straight. I was drunk at this point But wow. I had walked/jogged 16 miles throughout the day, and in the end: Knott's - 10:30am~3pm Ghostrider, Iron Reef, Pony, Coast Rider, Sierra, Jaguar, Mine Ride all 1x Supreme Scream, Log Ride, Boysenberry Beer 2x Silver Bullet 3x Unplanned missed coaster: Montezuma Disneyland/DCA - 5pm~12am Cars, Guardians both 2x Indiana Jones 1x Space Mountain 5x Mystery Glowing Blue Drink, Margarita both 1x Racer 5 IPA 2x Sorry Big Thunder and Matterhorn! Splash Mountain was closed for refurbishment otherwise I would have been all about that action, boss. I'll have bonus updates of Joshua Tree and LA/Santa Monica Pier later! I couldn't have accomplished what I did without the direction and help of a handful of stellar cast members. Before I went over to Disneyland for the first time I wanted to stop at Guest Services to tell them about Mollie and Garcia that helped me out.....but there was a massive line! UGH. Thankfully when I came back to DCA for one more ride on Cars/Guardians and went back over to Disneyland it was late and there were only 2-3 people in line so I was able to tell them about how they made my day and helped me save time. If you've got the stamina, the time, and a ticket, you can easily hit up your favorites in a limited time! I really didn't have any time to plan/reserve FP in advanced due to the improvisational manner of this trip - this was probably the lest effective way to do Knott's / Disneyland / DCA The only thing I would have done differently is I should have eaten something for dinner. I was so caught up running around I didn't eat anything at DL - I was on the hunt for the red corndog cart but couldn't find it. I always turn up my nose to overpriced theme park food but end up spending on $12 drinks so I'm a dingus, haha. I took way more snapchats/videos than pictures now that I'm going through my gallery - I really thought I had taken more pictures, sorry for the lack of content! I'm posting some TBT snaps since I was there a week ago - feel free to add me: photoboothezizi Thanks for reading everyone! The Collector's Tower is lit Look, I actually have time to sit and drink a beer! Racer 5 is great. The cast members are so efficient. Well done! It's... PIZZA PORT! Yes I'm in a thirsty galaxy A really cool looking parade going by Keep your eye one the globe, not Mara! Shout out to the super friendly cast members! Rough and rugged terrain /narrator's voice One last look at Space Mountain This looks like the right door to take. Marvel nerds rejoice! I had no idea where the camera was, haha
