TPR 2019 Coaster Poll Results!
PKI Jizzman replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No Beast and Mine Blower IN the 25 is very interesting! I didn't realize people liked Mine Blower so much. Flying Dino should have been in the top 25 years ago, but I understand due to lack of votes. Thanks for all the time and effort on this! -
Well look at all of this extra free time I have! Let's dive back into this trip report. Friday, October 11th, 2019 - Full day at USJ! Our day was already pre scheduled a bit since Elissa set us up with the express passes, which have different times set to ride rides or go through haunted houses. The first express pass wasn't until about noon so we all agreed to start the day with Flying Dino to get in as many rides as possible before the crowds followed. General thoughts: *I had so many great interactions with the employees in each department! The op at Jaws who was making fun of me for drinking my 'small beer' slow Multiple times having a quick chit chat about where I'm from/welcoming me to Osaka *Food overall was pretty great! Highballs, beers, all awesome. *Flying Dino was almost a little too uncomfortable for me with the high intensity positive G's, but I get migraines and positive G's are not my most favorite thing. That being said it's still in my top 10. The pace of the inversions, interaction with the land below, and airtime!!! all make it world class. *I enjoyed BackDrop Hollyood Dream more than others, and we did get lucky with a row towards the back. *Space Fantasy Black Hole was one I enjoyed more than others as well! I honestly thought the lifts were like launches since you could just barely see the lights of the sensors and other cars spinning by. Would love to try regular Space Fantasy. HHN: Chucky - It was a hospital theme, where you encountered some Chucky + human hybrids, chaos insues. This wasn't like other 'story' haunted houses. This was more typical American style haunted house with the timed scares. I thought it was really well done, scary, and the finale was very well done! A lot of incredible custom costumes for this one. Alien/Area 51 - This took over one of the staged shows, where you started by being coralled by the military, they shoot a bunch of aliens, they give you a map and codes to crack, then throw you out into a legit maze where aliens chase you around!!! That's outside, then you find the alien's ship, and go into it and try to prevent them from destroying Earth. This was a long one, took about 30-40 minutes! Lots of interaction with the actors. It wasn't very scary in my opinion, but very unique. Biohazard/Resident Evil - Two routes, but they were very similar. Just go to TPR's instagram to see Robb's brilliant footage of this attraction. You help fight the bosses. It's totally interactive. USJ pretty much found a way to put you into the video game with Claire and Leon. It was fucking incredible. https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/18040213609202710/?hl=en TPR Insta! Go! Our stay at the Universal Port Hotel was so great, can't recommend enough. Universal Port Hotel 1-111 Sakurajima, Konohana Ward, Osaka, Osaka Prefecture 554-0031, Japan Phone: +81 6-6463-5000 http://www.hoteluniversalport.jp/en/ When staying at the Port Hotel you get access the one of the best spreads for breakfast. Seriously what a treat! One full typhoon free day at USJ + HHN! Nailed it! We've been patiently waiting for this moment.... Her beauty... Her grace... She'll fucking bite your face (off) haha ...and then double barrel roll you, flip you upside down, give you some flying airtime. Wow what a ride! Taking advantage of our express passes and walking right onto Harry Potter! It's Halloween and of course USJ is beautifully decorated for the occasion! The regular version of Hollywood Dream was up next! I really enjoyed the backwards version, and like 99% of Japanese parks, you'll have to get lucky if you want a front or back row ride. That being said, some of the hills felt a lot steeper than they look. It's definitely tame compared to the other B&M hypers, but it just has something to it that made me really enjoy it. We come out of Hollywood Dream right into this hilarious trick or treat candy party! Bert loved the Halloween Hello Kitty! The kids all line up, there's a countdown, and Hello Kitty explodes the candy! See, now it's ready to be raided by all of the kids! Of course, in the most polite and organized way haha. Yes, they will wand you, yes they will ask you over and over again if you have anything in your pockets. I pretty much started to twerk and turn all my pockets inside out to prove I honestly didn't have anyyyyything on my person haha. Similar to RRR in Orlando, you can pick your song! Ratata is the way to go! Apparently this is where Mummy is located if you're looking at the map vs Orlando. It's a great ride! You all know that. Ohmygyad, they're actually cute. I honestly don't know if this is a guest or a HHN actor. That's the level of costume/cosplay fans dress up as to the park. So awesome! More cute Halloween fun! I've only been to Japan once, on this trip, but Halloween at these parks really made them extra special. Japan + Melon flavor = <33333 Heading back over for our first HHN maze, walking through the JP area of the park. This element isn't overrated, it's absolutely one of the best elements created. Noted! Panicking! Riding it back to back in the morning was really pushing my limits. This coaster is fucking intense and might make your head feel like it's going to explode...in a good way! Their TRex was working too! The only butterbeer item that I thought was meh. Having a beer and enjoying this spectacular view. It's pretty great, but they need to cover up the ride's building somehow... back here you could see Nintendo land coming to life, too! Time for the Resident Evil BIOHAZRD mazes! 2 Routes - Robb did an incredible job capturing quality shots, go check out the TPR instagram! Big fan of all the mazes we did - even with the language barrier we could follow what was happening. It was very immersive and like being right in the game. The level of detail and the custom monster costumes were STELLAR! A quick black hole spin! Even in the darkness, the final show room was still active. I really enjoyed it even in this HHN mode. I hope everyone is healthy and virus free!!!!!! Another spin on Jaws and shout out to Higashino for the expert aim! Jaws is hard to get photos of, here's what I got from the exit platform. Taking another ride on Forbidden Journey and taking a look at the fun Halloween decorations. Ayyy we just graduated I don't think this guy is as bad as the media is making him out to be Time for another beer! Until next time, USJ Hogsmead. It was very interesting experiencing this without Diagon Alley, it feels a little incomplete. I'm sure they will continue adding ...right? Sun starts to give way to the moon and the park really comes to life. So pretty! Apparently the weather is excellent before and after the typhoon. Walking around, sipping a beer, taking in the sunset and having a little photo shoot with Robb. How romantic, right?! I'd say these next set of photos happened over a few minutes. Gracious. Of all the beautiful sights I've seen around the world, this one is up there. Wow. Yep, never gets old. Alright time to meet up for our Backdrop ride, crush some more mazes, and take in the HHN atmosphere! Your bigness is uh...beautiful, ma'm. The level of detail on some of these characters around the park were just epic. Cyberpunk Frankenstein? That's awesome They would get real close and let you see how excellent the costuming is. Hollywood Dream looking good at night! Biohazard's maze went down, so they gave us an express pass for ANYTHING! Guess where we went.. After we got off Dino, Biohazard had re-opened so I got to go through both sides! I didn't think they were very different, they both ended the same way and featured badass monsters. The park had different monster zones We checked off everything, had a full park day and were ready for some 551! I really loved this park. It's going to be even more fun with the addition of Nintendo! It's just missing another great coaster, in my opinion. Hollywood Dream is fun, Dino is a top coaster, but you're not going to be able to get tons of rides on them due to the popularity. Something like Blue Fire would really round out the park, IMO. The interaction with the park below is very well played. All Universal parks should have this combo.

Great update, and so relieved (heh get it) to see you got on ROTR. Those empenadas look amazing! You've got a great taste in beer, Chuck! I'm still dreaming about that pale ale you suggested me to get at BGW. -
Hey everyone, hope the week is going well! Thursday, October 10th! You would think most of us would be pretty wiped out from a loooong day at Fuji Q (up at 4am-bed at 11ish, all well worth it) but were brimming with excitement since we were getting on the Shinkansen for the first time this trip. Osaka is the destination for Universal Studios Japan. Oh, and there’s potentially a massive typhoon headed to Osaka, too! Robb and Elissa did an incredible job keeping us up to date on how to a) stay safe b) best use our time c) predict how Universal will react. We were all patient and I think everyone had a great plan of attack. Our group, who had never been to Universal Japan before, decided to buy an evening ticket for Thursday night just in case Universal decided to close early on Friday (the storm was either going to hit Friday evening or Saturday). While I was bummed to lose a half day of just exploring Osaka doing non park stuff, I was way more excited with the opportunity for more time at Universal and more HHN! FIRST! We were set up so well by R&E. When we arrived at the fantastic Universal hotel, our rooms were not going to be ready for a couple hours. It was lunch time so that gave us the chance to get something to eat and more importantly… get typhoon rations! Just in case we lost power/weren’t able to find stores open when the storm hit. We were going to be ready for a day inside the hotel all day. There was a grocery store, 7/11, Family Mart/Lawson right there in the Universal City Walk area so it was incredibly easy to stock up on the necessities! After we got our rations, hotel rooms were ready, and we did a little sampling of our rations to try some fun new snacks, sake, whiskey, beer, and more for happy hour before going into the park! When I say we, it’s Alex, Allison, Jon, bert, William, and we had David and Tabatha with us here and there so it was a solid group! We didn’t have too much of a plan, but we agreed we’d try to get on Flying Dino if we could (since our express pass was later in the day Friday…so if the park closed early we’d pretty much have to eat the cost) do a haunt or two, and just soak in the atmosphere. Here’s how it went! Bert I threw a couple of your photos in here, too. I’ll give more of a breakdown on the rides/haunts in the next full day update. -Zach Universal Japan is amazing for many reasons, but one big highlight was were those who staffed the place! Our friend here saw me with a beer in line and was having fun with making sure I finished my beer before the ride, haha. It's pretty similar to the look and feel of an airplane, but more comfortable =. No bento for me since we had breakfast, but I tried to pick a random drink or snack whenever I had the opportunity. These were similar to fig newtons, but apricot flavor and wrapped in a kitkat wafer. Studying up on our express passes! Really not that difficult once to understand, but unnecessarily difficult in general haha. Thankfully taking a picture of them worked and still scanned so we didn't need to be carrying around newspapers with us. Shinkansen time! Let's get out of Tokyo and go to Osaka! So many delicious bento options... all right in the train station. So convenient! Alex or Allison's chocolate. Not pictured: Sake and beer, haha. They were also having us do this peek-a-boo "SCARY....SURPRISE!" thing which was just so funny given the language barrier. Okay okay let's not eat and drink all of our rations let's get over to the park! TYPHOON HAGIBIS RATIONS! All the necessities. Spicy beef...cheetos... sweet potato sticks, Chicken ramen snacks, and some good 'ol Suntory Whiskey! Hogwarts time! It was kinda of weird experiencing one without Diagon Alley. It definitely feels like it's lacking as far as attractions go, but it's definitely a better Hogsmeade than Orlando because it's more secluded and the black lake is cool, too. It feels like there is something missing here.. Butterbeer! The only non alcoholic beverage I had this evening, haha. I'm weird I like the regular vs frozen. It's just as fantastic as the Orlando version! Such a great ride and it was fun to ride with some that had never experienced it before. At night it looks even more stunning! Beautiful day... we were still in shirt + shorts mode in October. Amazing! My 2018 trip to Universal Orlando made me a Potter fan, so during 2019 pre-Japan I read the books. I'm a real fan now so time to celebrate! I found my way to the source! The classic red ale they sell in the other parks and.... a Suntory High Ball! Making our way around to Jurassic Park. The beautiful bridge in the background over the Aji river lets you know you're not in Florida or Orlando! This was my first time riding JP with a working T-Rex finale....EPIC! This is an unacceptable amount of wetness and pressure on my skull. Looking across the pond in the middle of the park. Such a great looking Universal! Chucky was posting a 15 minute wait so it would be our first HHN maze! It was fantastic with so many incredible costumes, well done sets, and unique characters. Don't miss it! You have a mysterious scientist who's sick of all these zombies. Zombies are boring and overdone! Here you are, nice and comfy ready for space. Sorry your space flight is delayed, so let's go all Animal Crossing and go fishing? Fishing for monsters!!! With zombies as bait!!! YES!! You lure the real spooky monsters out of a different dimension andddd....when you exit the ride into the park boom you see all the HHN monsters walking around. You successfully reeled in them big monsters, well done Chip. It's time for our first coaster at USJ! Space Fantasy - Black Hole HHN version By this point we were getting some good news about the weather so we called it a night. We didn't do Hollywood Dream or Dino due to long lines and no express pass, we were going to save all those for the next day. 551 HORAI post-USJ party! Fuuuck so delicious... the shimp shumai turned out to be my favorite! Can you tell who the theme park enthusiasts are? The much sought after beer vending machine...ahhh Japan <3. Next update will be the full day at USJ!

That El Loco looks like fun built into the canyon like that. I wasn't aware Chaos rides are a rarity, but I also realized the last time I rode one was probably Cedar Point 2005 haha. Yeah I don't have any recollection of them flipping, but trying to do so. Man those Stratosphere rides... I'd be so tempted because they would totally genuinely scare me... but the price ugh..
-
Wow those parades will definitely take up a lot of space on your phone! So many pictures to capture. You really did a lot in 1 day at TDL! I can't imagine how even MORE amazing this place will be when those who don't have a Japanese phone are able to make reservations/fastpass/etc on digital. Ugh I miss that view from the Tokyo Hilton Bay. All of TDR was just so energetic and memorable during the Halloween time. It was impossible not to get caught up in all of the celebrations and activities. Hearing all of the cast members say "Happy Halloween!!!" was the best. Okay maybe the CMs saying "Yeeeeehawwwww" at Big Thunder might have been the best, haha. Can't wait for more!

This is like step 7 of 10 on the checklist to become Fuji-Q. Most rides/coasters have an alternative entrance/fast lane/single rider looking stair or ramp so I wouldn't be surprised to see them take the next step with offering per-ride skip the line passes. I hope they do it sooner than later because these empty, unattended entrances just create line jumping issues all day every day. Look at all of these ways to line jump! If you're lucky, you'll see kids jumping the gap like they're cutting across traffic lanes with no blinker on Lake Shore Drive.

Wednesday, October 9th! Fuji Q time! Anyone who has read TPR Japan updates going back to the beginning of TPR should gag and shudder when they hear the words "Fuji Q" for so many reasons. I honestly was not planning to go to Fuji Q because it just seemed too risky. Even a week before visiting the weather forecast just always seemed iffy and a wasted day in Japan was just something I didn't want to risk. But. I thought about DoDoDonpa, Eejanaika, and Takabisha and the idea of being so close to Mt. Fuji and I started to come around. I went in listening to everything Elissa and Robb had to say, had low expectations, and it turns out my visits to different temples and shrines in Tokyo the days before paid off. We had a pretty great day as far as Fuji Q visits go. Let's be real here - outside of the main coasters, there were still lots of closed rides and they had just closed the mouse for good. I don't care about missing them but I do care about how much I have to pay to get into the park. This park is very small. It's a slab of concrete except for the new European entrance. The setting is fantastic up in the mountains near Mt. Fuji. The food was great! Operations were just fine! We were able to pick seats, there wasn't any down time on rides that opened with the park, and the park announces any early closures. We got very lucky this visit. I'm not taking that for granted at all. After riding DoDoDonpa and Eejanaika, I would make a return visit for them even if everything else was closed. I think that highly of them. DoDoDonpa 100% lived up to the hype and the launch is unlike any other coaster element (airtime, zero g, lateral, etc) in that it is just best described as pure bliss. Following the launch the dip down provides a great pop of air and the loop pulls some serious g's at the bottom while giving some hangtime at the top. Since the trains use real tires it is bouncy at times so depending on your tolerance that will effect how much you like it. It's not a jackhammer by any means. Fujiyama was very okay in the middle when we tried to play it safe on our first ride. Our final ride in the back row was fantastic. My thinking is since the back of the train isn't THROWN into those weird turns and elements towards the middle/end like the front of the train is there just....wasn't any joltyness or roughness. It was excellent. Takabisha I'm a massive fan of. I rode this right after DoDoDonpa, the strongest launch in the world. I really expected Takabisha's launch to feel like a booster bike. Nope, it still kicked my ass. Smooth, too. Seinfeld fan visits Japan. Great morning for a walk! Through these doors are.... Your opportunity to win a full sized can of Pringles. The views when we arrived at Fuji Q were stunning. Snowcap-less Mt. Fuji. Gotta look my best for FujiSan. At the back of the park you'll find Eejanaika, the 2nd S&S 4D I have never been on a 4D before so I had no idea what to expect. Heading up the lift to be chucked off a cliff into oblivion. This ride is an experience and now I am on an insatiable quest to ride the others! sumimasen Ain't it great? Eeeeeeejainaika! Eeeeeeejainaika! Eeeeeeejainaika! Eeeeeeejainaika! My first ride, the restraints were not as tight as they could be so next ride I made sure to pull as tight as possible because whew, you get absolutely tossed in every way possible! The coasters weren't scary enough for me, but the Halloween decorations did the trick. When Fujiyama opened in 1996 it was the world's tallest roller coaster at 259 feet Roller coasters + Japanese Beer = ZB Heaven Best view from a lift! LAUNCH TIME!!! First ride in the middle was okay, but our last ride in the back was fantastic. I wish everyone had a spin on Fujiyama like we did! The trains looked so uncomfortable, but they were just fine! As you can see the weather can change any second here. Thankfully there was no rain and the rides ran all visit. 高飛車 Takabisha Fuji Q had these awesome selfie spots where you just set up your camera timer and go stand to take a photo! Hayyyy Beyond vertical 121* drop. I'm not really a fan of these extreme beyond vertical drops, I'd rather have a simple straight down. It's so smooth! Taking in FujiSan upside down is wild PUSH HARDER!!! CRAP OUT THAT NEW 2021 RMC! Eejanaika has turned me into a 4D addict, now I need to go to SFMM and Dinosaur Park in China to try them all Similar to DoDoDonpa's launch, I'm just speechless or screaming the whole ride. Make sure you hold on tight! The structure is massive. Kitty will soak you. See how literally everyone is wearing ponchos? Learn from the locals. See! You know how Flight of Fear has this whole pre-show-queue story thing? So did this ride. Instead of aliens it's about angry cats and flooding. I swear at one point you're sideways. This was wicked!! Sneaking through the massive spider webs to get some great shots. DoDoDonpa's massive loop. It's an excellent replacement for the violent airtime hill that (I never experienced) was there before. Loved this WAY more than I thought! It's pure bliss. Location is just the icing. Did you know this has fire at night? Strap your flaps in everyone, we're going on a quick little photo shoot here. Engage rainbow tunnel! See! Fire!! Some cool relics they had out! Moonsault Scramble! Wow, what a trip. What an unexpectedly amazing start to our Japan trip! Eyes here! Fujiyama O-Shiri Crew! The back seat is AMAZING!

Alex and I went to Nick U/American Dream last weekend. We had to pay an extra $10 due to the hike from $60 to $70 for entry and it didn't even matter if we pre-purchased the week before because the T&C says "Guests shall also pay any difference in price if the ticket price for the new date or time is higher than the originally purchased ticket price. Ticket exchanges or refunds for tickets of lesser price are not permitted." Yes, parking is free. Yes, there are only vending machines, pre packaged foods (chips/candy/cookies/Starbucks-like-food), and 1 candy store in the entire mall + Nick U. There might have been hot dogs? Don't eat there. Although, there's plenty of spilled soda and candy all over the ground if you're into that. Go fill up on amazing Italian food nearby at https://www.annabellasmozz.com/ before or after the park. Yes all the operators are kids and no they do not care about filling seats or capacity. The whole place is dusty, feels cheap and plasticky, the queues/ride entrances set the GP up to line jump due to the way they are set up, rides didn't operate as they should and were broken often, and the longer we stayed the less happier we became. They closed the Hidden Temples ropes course 4 hours before the park closed with little signage. I didn't see any signs during the day but it was there when it was closed. There's no music being played in the park?! Skyline Scream runs a combo mode. It is a new S&S that can rotate and carry 20 people. It kept having issues with these 2 prongs lining up correctly to unlock the restraints and was up and down all day. When it runs normally it's about a 2-3 minute total cycle with an observation mode giving stunning views of Manhattan. The ride will only operate with 14-15 people for ...weight balancing reasons? I don't know. The ops will make you change seats and move you a couple times. It takes forever to get on this ride. At some point the ride went down. It re-opened as shot tower only and could only launch halfway up the tower. No amazing view of Manhattan. Who messed this up? The park? S&S? This is embarrassing. The good: The halfpipe was fantastic, especially with those lapbars. Shellraiser/Takabisha is one of my personal favorites and you are held up at that window looking at Manhattan for a good 30 seconds. Incredible. Why does this ride have large rough patches/NJ potholes at the bottom of the drops on the 2nd half? Glass smooth in the back seat, but front right you could feel them. I'm sorry for anyone who only got rough rides, all of ours were not rough. Some rides are themed pretty well. The Shredder spinning coaster was pretty fun. We were there from 2-9:30pm and didn't get to do the ropes course, Kraang/inverting frisbee/other flippy ride, swings, train due to them being closed or long lines. Rode TMNT/Shredder 2x, Skyline Scream 1.5 everything else once. I'll probably visit if/when Sandy opens and I can do a pay per attraction. Getting into this place is what I assume drowning in quicksand is like. Lifegaurds were training at the waterpark. So many hot tubs! Looks great, and so many slides hidden - there's a Tantum and Tornado and more that you can't see. I'm in enemy territory. Sorry Sponge, I'm a Cartoon Network guy. Oh how I've missed you, Takabisha. It's cool to see the launch section - it's so short! This launch is fantastic! I didn't expect it to be open but I did expect correct grammar and lamination. The maint' guys said it's the most amazing re-ridable coaster ever and it has not soft opened. I hope they paint the walls eventually. Nick is supposed to be colorful, not dusty and pasty white. Some attractions have more theme than others. Super random. It's just as good as Takabisha. There were some bumps felt in the front, not the back. Just lean forward. The big 'window' isn't glass, it's cheap plastic of some sort fogging an amazing view of NYC. So simple. So fun. The 'cars' seemed to be able to be switched from fixed to free-swing as we saw some sides not spin at all, like it was locked, then other cycles spinning out. I tried, Larry. I wish I could have done this but it closed 4 hours before park close with little notice. No announcements over the PA. No music anywhere in the park either, aside from people's phones. Stay classy East Rutherford, NJ. See those two prongs? They have to line up to unlock the restraints. Big design flaw. They had to lift and bring down many times before they aligned to let guests out. Time for some more Takabishellraiser. Waited 45 min at the longest. Only 2 'trains' running. 16 people per 3-4 minute cycle. Wheeeeewwwwwwiiieeee! The view up there is spectacular. They hold you for 30 seconds. Perhaps worth the $70 alone. YOU TEASE! All of the ride queues and entrances/exits are fucked. Whoever planned this park should be fired. You see how you should walk through to get in line? Nope you have people lining up on the outside. If you visit, you'll get what I mean. It's glow'd up. Chaser lights look cool, and they rotate colors. When it's dark the park's mega bright LEDs make it hard to look up at the rides. So uh, yeah I think I need to go to the doctor now. Just looking around. Why isn't this big wall glass? Too expensive? Same angle. We waited a long time for the controlled Jimmy Neutron ride thing. This is how it looks at night. The interaction between these two is pretty cool. Another flippy spinny ride, but closed. Looks... like trouble. Another look. This part of the park by Sandy is just dead. Great, the tower is down now. Everyone in the park was referring to Slime Streak as a 'traditional coaster' which is another reason it has a massive line - it's the only non flippy spinny coaster for families. Way too long of a line. Can I go home yet? Yeah, this place has a lot of work. hey bert! This is what the mall looks like. There's the ice rink, a small army of security, and people hanging out doing nothing. Just another example of this park being cheap and plasticky. I couldn't believe the queue gates held up as long as they did before kids shaking/sitting on them start to show wear and tear. How DARE you advertise Coke Energy and not have it in stock anywhere. Last straw for me! See ya never!
