Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
PKI Jizzman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Here's a little TR from 12/26 with some more pictures. Arrived a little before 5 and thankfully we got there at opening because we only waited 15 minutes for Mystic Timbers. By the time we got off the ride the queue was full and nearly overflowing and the staff were giving 2 hour estimates. My mom rode and had an okay time on it. She hadn't been on a coaster since Top Gun nearly gave her a heart attack when she rode with me in probably 2002ish The artisan village around the Eiffel Tower was unexpected. How do I know they were artisan crafts? Well, one of the shop merchants yelled "We are local artisans selling artisnal crafts!!" at us when they overheard us discussing who would buy brooms or log fire grates from Kings Island. The lit up Eiffel Tower is pretty mesmerizing and the park looked good, but there were some really dark spots in the park which made it hard not to bump into people/little kids at times. Without the rides lit up and stuff it was dark! We skipped the tubing hill. It looked like an operational disaster. Skipped Antiques. The queue was full and overflowing down to the arcade. Skipped the train. The line was overflowing. Skipped the bumper cars. We're not that easily entertained. Waited a full queue for the Zephyr/swings, haha. Luckily got on Shake Rattle and Roll before the queue filled up. Waited 20 minutes in the SRL for Mystic Timbers. This event is not for me and I'm not sure I'd suggest going if you have to pay with the same offering next year. I'll gladly go back when there are more attractions and there's no way my family would come back either unless there was more to do. Even my Mom wanted to ride the Viking Ship and Adventure Express, and she hates coasters! She held hear breath after the first drop, haha. But survived. So long pal. I'll miss seeing you but I'm ready for something new and better. New 2019 hotness!! New 2019 decoration hotness!! Sadly, we skipped because the lines were insane. Looked great, though. Probably 80% gold pass members and 100% of those pass holders seemed to have meal plans What's with no blue ice cream? Another reason why this event is not for me. -
I'll admit that Flying Dino was almost too intense for me to love, and there really hasn't been any other coaster experience that has made me say that We did ride it 2x within 15-20 minutes first thing in the morning... in the morning! It's already that nuts, but I'm not sure I noticed a difference in morning vs night rides. The positive G's are really extreme at a few points in the ride, but the more I rode it the more I enjoyed it. It was so awesome to try a flying coaster that hauled ass through the entire course since I think that's the best way to experience inversions on flying coasters. The slow rolls tossing your body from side to side just don't do anything for me. For me one of the best parts about Flying Dino is that you feel like a celebrity on it. Everyone is waving to you from the paths below as you're climbing the lift and flying around.

I love these last two updates! It's hard to pick favorite days on the trip but I really loved USJ and the Citywalk area. The buns, gyoza, shrimp were all fantastic. It was so much fun to get those and have a little room party before or after the park visits. I definitely miss it! Robb and Elissa and some help from Joey really set us up for success in a constantly changing severe weather situation. That can never be stated enough! Really enjoying reading and going through all of the fun memories!

It looks like a bigger, more thrilling version of Invadr! Should be a ton of fun. -

So true, I had to tell a couple that the Beast wasn't open because they couldn't find the 'new path to it' because the temporary trees were blocking the entrance haha. I will credit KI will setting up a great area for local artisans to sell candles, brooms, wooden trinkets and other stuff that that appeals to that demographic. -

Yeah it's a big miss. Being home for the holidays with all your friends and family from out of town.. such a big opportunity to draw in a bigger crowd with more attractions. All my brothers wanted was 1 ride on Diamondback or the Beast. And Banshee. And Adventure Express. Can Adventure Express even vally?! Haha.. -

Priced as such haha. Kings Island sure doesn't! $32 + taxes and fees for Winterfest and for anyone that isn't a child the ride options are: Mystic Timbers Zephyr/Swings Antique Cars Bumper Cars Shake Rattle and Roll Oh yeah, Boo Blasters I guess Thankfully the pass discount knocks it down to $22.. still taxes and fees.. I'm very curious to know what % of pass holders to ticket buyers is. Seemed like a lot of people were there just to use the meal plan. The lines for food were absurd, with the biggest being for Forbidden Jesus Chicken. People were lined up like they were trying to get a last ride on Vortex. We had a good time but after 2 hours it was boring. We would have done the tubing hill but we watched for a few minutes and not sure what the issue was but wow did it take a really really long time for them to get people set up to slide down the 15 ft little hill. No blue ice cream for you :[ Why? I would have crushed 79 cones. Yoinks -

2 hour wait for Mystic Timbers and every conversation I've overheard is about how lame/stupid it is that there aren't more rides and coasters open. It's been 55-60* these past 7 days. 62* at 5pm today! -

I don't have a screen shot to prove it but honestly the fog was so thick when I looked at Mystic Timbers and Diamondback they were covered too. It's been over 60* and the warming weather + frost thawing makes for tons of fog. -

That was fantastic. Honey was the only flavor I didn't really care for, and honestly, it was probably because it was a pure natural honey flavor and I didn't enjoy the real taste, haha. It was really floral.. smelled amazing, but had a bitter taste. Excellent read and great photos! Disney Sea loves green lightning and it's such a cool effect! Where can I donate to the Hightower movie gofundme? Your Roosevelt story was near spot on what happened to me when I asked for extra olives in my martini. I should have known better since it was the end of the trip - you just don't customize things in Japan. Asking for a menu item, but slightly different just doesn't work. And that's okay! Just something to learn/understand along the way. -
Big Thunder Mountain at Tokyo Disney. Front, back, middle.. it didn't matter there was no airtime or anything. Don't get me wrong it was fun but it's nothing like the Big Thunder in California or Florida. The train just seemed like it was too big for the ride. Lagging in the front and back. Sorry Japanese Big Thunder..

Saweeeeeeeeeeeeeet! Kings Island is likely going to see some big numbers this weekend and next week - temps in the mid 50's. Great for Mystic Timbers rides, but it's going to be another Christmas without snow. -
Hulk has been around for so long and is at an insanely popular park, so I guess that's why it doesn't get talked about much? Even on my first trip to Universal I kind of... forgot about it a little. It's such a great ride. Nonstop action, looks amazing, goes upside down more than you'd realize, and has more than just inversions. Glad you had a great time! Verbolten is one of my favorite coasters, so I'm going to loooove Hagrid's Motorbikes. Right there with you regarding Gringott's - it's in my list of #1 coasters and there's so much to see. I can't wait to visit now that I have actually read all the books

After riding DoDoDonpa and then going straight to Takabisha, I expected the launch to feel like a gentle breeze. Wrong! It had some nice kick to it! Even after riding it 3 times I still can't figure out the layout - everything does kinda blend together like moments on Eejanaika. Yes! You had the back seat Fujiyama experience some of us had! Yo, it was so good. The back of the train lags behind a little bit going into those transitions which makes it so much better than being thrown straight into them in the front seat. Incredible pictures, I'm loving this report! You explained Eejanaika so well, too. What an intense, scary ride. -

Very stoked for this expansion and I'm confident they'll do an incredible job. Zootopia is a strong international IP that everyone can vibe with, I think it will be a huge hit. There are endless ideas for photo ops, immersive city style themeing, food/drink, merch, and attractions. I'm happy to see a new IP growing and getting attention! Elissa's totally right - to get a photo op with Nick or Judy (you had to pick 1) at Tokyo Disneyland, you had to go there first to get a ticket or else it would sell out right away. -
Great report and photos, Adam! I miss USJ! I'll echo condolences on the extra extra long wait for Flying Dino, that's unacceptable. I'm happy to hear you were able to see part of Space Fantasy without the VR; it looks fantastic and I hope to see it not in the pitch black/HHN mode. The parade looks stunning! Between all of the USJ reports I've seen lately it's impressive with how much the change the parade throughout the year. All the food was so good! Thanks for including those pictures in your report.

Bandit and Coaster Express were mixed up in my mind too. Wow that truly looks like the worst coaster ever. I'd have so many conflicting feelings riding with that Intamin T bar because those are glorious lap bars. Speeding through parks isn't something you do very often, is it? Kudos though, if you have the opportunity to visit, go for it! Signed, a one time 5pm-12am Disneyland parkhopper.

Great to hear you enjoyed the pro slide coaster! It's still a great collection with the family raft ride, tube bowl, coaster, tantrum, and then lots of tube slides. I forget - do that even have body slides? I don't remember any body slides. Yeah that's a really solid water park, and probably the best water park in Cincinnati until KI added the new slide complex (prior to that it had been since 2004 since they added slides). But that's due to 0 competition and overpowering the only competition, the Beach, diagonal to them across the highway on the north side. -
You got some awesome views up in the ferris wheel! It's cool you got a glimpse of that fireball, too. I was worried I was the only one who saw it and no one was going to believe me That last Takabisha ride we had was pretty much a night ride. It was incredible how great the park looked at night as I didn't notice any lights around the park during the day. Condor - they definitely stopped accepting people into the queue 45-60 min before closing, which is about how long the lines were for the most popular attractions are. They actually announced it over the speakers, which was surprising. The unpredictability of this park is pretty well showcased in this thread. It seems like your day was much more crowded and they closed 90 min early because of the lines; but who knows! Fuji Q is a small park - I mean 3 entrances to the main rides are all right next to each other and DoDoDonpa pretty much runs the perimeter of the park. Even though some rides and coasters were closed for this visit I can't imagine spending more than a day there. Even with not knowing how crazy crowds will be or how many trains the coasters will run, I'd totally go stay at the Fuji Q resort if the weather is right for whenever I visit next. It'd be helpful to have that early entry time to grab the fast passes early if it's a weekend or not a perfect day. Honestly, that's how much I enjoyed the coasters!

I was really worried Jon or Alex were going to accidentally run into a web since they're taller, haha. Those spiders were hugeeeee. At least they didn't really move, but they were still freaky. It's so easy to get distracted by the coasters and rides, but there were some fantastic places to take pictures and enjoy the setting of the Fujishioda. Great update!

^The Great Wolf has a pro slide magnetic water coaster that starts off with a B&M style pre-drop into the main drop. It's a really great water coaster. There's tons to do at the water park you'll have a blast!
