Did everyone on the train survive? Or did you all walk away with minor concussions? -

Rides you would ameliorate?
KrakenKing replied to CPmillenia94's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Mantis - Change from a Stand-Up to a Sitdown/Floorless coaster. Ninja (SFMM) - Change the train to the Suspended Vekoma kind. -
I made my first trip to SFNE yesterday. It was a great park (Minus some operations and many employees). Bizarro lived up to the hype and got better as the day progressed. We maged to grab three rides on it, once in the back, once in front, and once in the second row. The front row rides were late in the day and were fantastic. The back row ride was our first ride of the day and wasn't nearly as intense as the last two rides at night. Does this change during the day? Is the back the place to be on this ride? The other rides were great as well, all running relatively well (Except Mind Eraser and Flashback) The water park was PACKED. Did manage to get a ride in on Bonzai Pipeline, which was really intense going around the helix. I wasn't able to lift my head at all during this part. Many people getting off complained of hurting their elbows, hands, heads, and backs. I'd probably skip this attraction next time I visit. Now, for the good and bad news. Goliath was open, and was running really well! Bad news, it has the old train. I never had a problem with these trains, and in my opinion, they give you more of a "Holy crap I'm in a death trap" feel, which adds to the adrenaline.

Parc Asterix Discussion Thread

Take off the OTSRs off of Goudurix... put OTSR's on Mindbender (SFoG). Yeah, which would be worse? That "Third inversion" on Mindbender would absolutely destroy you with OTSRs (Yes, I consider that part "rough", if there were OTSR's on it, I'm sure it'd be just like Revolution) and Goudurix would be considered "Good". Texas Tornado/Zonga = Crap after the OTSRs were installed. If Goudurix had lap bars (Maybe even the new vest restraints) I'm sure it wouldn't be receiving all the hate it currently does. Remember what happened to Premier when they changed to Lap Bars? Crap rides becoming ridable/re-ridable. -

I've become more of a lurker than a poster on this site. But this has made me log in to say one thing to this coaster: Bye. (Oh how I wish it could actually hear me.) -
Last week we went to see Grizzly Bear. The show was sold out on Ripoffmaster, so we decided to go to the venue on the day of the show. Lucky we did, because there were still seats left. 11th row back, center aisle! And we only paid $35 per instead of $47! Amazing show, great band to see live, they sound even better live than they do on their albums.

All really depends on if you're willing to shell out the cash for some quality audiophile headphones. Really, mostly everyone calls themselves an "audiophile" these days... even though they're using iPods/iPhones w/ 256kbps .aac files or 320kbps mp3's. Make sure you're using .FLAC files (or .ALAC if using iTunes), it's not just the headphones you have, it's also the audio file quality and equipment used to play back the files. You can even find 24bit/48khz audio on audiophile sites such as https://www.hdtracks.com/, but beware, they're VERY large files (30mb average) so make sure you have a music player with a large hard drive. Now, for headphones, IEMs (In ear monitors) are best for noise-cancelation (Not just isolation). I ride the subway every day here in Boston, and even with the subway noise, screaming children, and loud people, I can't hear anything but my music with my IEMs, and that's with the player volume set at 25%. I use WestOne UM2s that have dual drivers, one for highs/mids and a separate for low ends. The UM1s don't sound terrible either if you're looking for a cheap option (around $100 on amazon), but they now have a UM3 (around $500) that have three drivers (high, mid, and low) to give you a really representation of the music. Now, I'm not really sure about more consumer based products like Shure/Sony/Bose... I'm sure they're good, but I've never seen a professional musician use them, but I have seen performers use UM2/UM3s. Matt Bellamy from Muse used the UM2s a few years back as his in-ears for a performance in London.

Fun Spot America Discussion Thread
KrakenKing replied to jedimaster1227's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If it is in fact Wild Adventure's boomerang, I think that may be the start to the demise of the park. But doesn't that park do fairly well, booking multiple concerts and adding new attractions almost every year? I don't see why they'd want to get rid of one of their three "major" coasters. Now, if they were still looking into the boomerang option... do we know if Vekoma has redesigned their boomerang? Using the new track type found on Battlestar? A 4-Across seat standard boomerang with shock absorbing wheels on the train would be wonderful... but for now, probably just a wonderful dream. -

If we're getting a "Big Fun" coaster, that'd be excellent! The video from IAAPA looked awesome and thought to myself "Man, any park would benefit from a ride like this, not too extreme, but not too gentle." I'm hoping it's going to be like Kentucky Rumbler, an awesome coaster at a small park. As for the steel coaster... I've read (and we all know how trustworthy the internet is) that it's going to be a Vekoma boomerang with the new restraints. We'll see how that goes. -

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
KrakenKing replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So, I was just watching the Weather Channel to see the track of Hurricane Irene and saw a breaking news story about Richmond, VA being hit with a 5.2 magnitude Earthquake?? Anyone know any more, if King's Dominion was affected or not? That would be pretty scary happening while on the top of I305 or the Observation Tower. Edit: Guess it was a 5.9 magnitude. -
Fixed. But yeah, good selection To add to this list: Radiohead Muse TV On The Radio The Republic Tigers The Decemberists MuteMath Bon Iver Foster The People Fleet Foxes and way too many more... I guess I don't have a favorite, I just like music. Though, of all I have listed, I can listen to every one of their albums in its entirety. If I can't listen to an album without skipping a song, I won't listen to the album... I guess I'm a bit OCD about it. Lady gaga makes my ears bleed though.

Most Notable Accident
KrakenKing replied to dropthefloor's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can't seem to find anything at the moment... and if anyone can find something on this accident, please post it. I read an article and saw some photos of a Togo Stand-up in (I believe) Japan where a wheel fell off, the train derailed to the side and crushed a guy against the emergency catwalk. That was pretty shocking. Brings a new meaning to "Death machine"
