  1. ^I am in China right now and definitely miss the spice of Thai food. Thanks for the comments. The zip line was a lot of fun.
  2. Ah he is used to it by now. It seems height requirements in other countries are more strict than in the U.S. He went on a lot of pretty big coasters at 48" in the U.S., where in Southeast Asia and China where we are now he can usually only go on Wild Mouse and kiddie coasters. I get tired of hearing him whine when we go on a ride that he can't enjoy. We just make it up to him by letting him go on other rides without us!
  3. Thanks for the update. I am going to get out there in a month when I am in Japan. I just can't pass up a ride on the Steel Dragon. BTW what is the height requirement for Steel Dragon. Is it 1.2 meters (48") like MF or 1.4m like most other thrilling coasters. I have a seven year old who is dying to know!
  4. Big Mike. Thanks again for the updates. I don't know why people have to bash the Big Mike fan club. I am a proud member!
  5. Ok, so this thread doesn't seem to be capturing anyone's imagination anymore, since everyone has stopped commenting. I am finishing up the thread very soon with the last two parks I visited in Southeast Asia. Once this is done, look for a thread about my Chinese theme park visits starting up within a few days. I have already visited several parks in China and will continue to visit more! This will be great for you TPR China trippers. Ok, back to the trip report. The second to last park we visited in Southeast Asia was Pattaya Park Funny Land. Pattaya is a beach town located about an hour Southeast of Bangkok. It is known more for its "adult activities" than anything else. All around town one can witness old men walking around with drop dead gorgeous Thai women. There are also quite a few resorts in Pattaya. At the Pattaya Park Beach Resort they have a small theme park, water park and an observation tower. I begin the trip report now! With that, I had all I could take for the day so we headed back along the beach towards our hotel! But after I watched a few people go, I finally found the courage. Initially I got all harnessed up and stood out on the ledge, but let my fear of heights get the best of me. After the coaster the only thing I had left to do was zipline off of the 58 story tower. Jasmine chickened out and Shawn Reece was too short. It is more of a nice pool area than waterpark. Moving on, this is the only slide tower at their so called waterpark. But at least for $7 USD they gave me a second go around on it. The ride was pretty rough. Whew! Then you bank back and forth left to right before hitting a few bunny hills on the way back. Then you go over a few hills overlooking the water park. The ride starts with you ascending a spiral lift hill. It is unknown who built Slalom Coaster. I do believe it is the same company that built the SBNO at Pattaya Park and the two SBNO coasters at Wonder World Fun Park in Bangkok. Notice the paint color on all four rides. The Slalom Coaster is the park's main attraction. It isn't very exciting. The park doesn't sell unlimited rides. They have a thrill ride ticket which includes the Tower, pirate ship & roller coaster for 300 baht (~$10USD) or you can just ride the coaster for 200 baht. I opted to just ride the coaster. And some of them were more thrilling. Some of them were kiddy rides. The park has a small collection of flat rides. Moving on from there we passed the monorail and moved to the main section of this little park. Turn it on and I'll give it a ride! The station doesn't look as good as the coaster. It looks like the idea was to go straight up and then back down. Similar to Superman The Escape or Tower of Terror at Dreamworld, but about 1/5th the height. We also got closer to the infamous SBNO, coaster that probably never operated. As we got closer we saw people zip lining off of the tower. So we go to family friendly places like this. But we are traveling with a child so we do our best to avoid these places. I am sure one could get easily lost in sin here. Welcome to Pattaya! Home to seedy hotels and as many women as you can afford!
  6. Is it just me or are the photos not showing up?
  7. ^ I hope they run these Universal Studios parks better than their Genting Highlands Resort in Malaysia. That place was absolutely horrible!
  8. Thanks for the great TR. It is obvious that you took a lot of time to put it together. My first visit to CP was last year and my experiences were very similar to yours. Unfortunately I only had one day to visit the park, but I did manage to get all 17 credits in one day. (I was with my son, so that is how I got the kiddie credits!)
  9. Time for an update. Luna Park (Sydney, Australia) Warner Brothers Movie World (Gold Coast, Australia) Dreamworld (Gold Coast, Australia) Australia Zoo (Sunshine Coast, Australia) Genting Theme Park (Malaysia) First World Plaza (Malaysia) Sunway Lagoon (KL, Malaysia) Cosmo's World (KL, Malaysia) Dream World (Bangkok, Thailand) Dam Sen Park (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) Hanoi Moon Park (Hanoi, Vietnam) Yoyo Land (Bangkok, Thailand) Wonder World Fun Park (Bangkok, Thailand) Siam Park City (Bangkok, Thailand) Pattaya Park (Pattaya, Thailand) Fisherman's Wharf (Macau) Ocean Park (Hong Kong) Hong Kong Disneyland Happy Valley Shenzhen (Shenzhen, China) Donghu Park (Shenzhen, China) Honey Lake Amusement Park (Shenzhen, China) Jing Ying Amusement Park (Guangzhou, China) Chimelong Paradise (Guangzhou, China) More China parks to come soon.
  10. Nice trip report. I hope you continue to post more!
  11. It does look remarkably good for being left to rot for 38 years. It was probably one hell of a ride.
  12. They would have a lot of licensing issues to work out if they want to stick with that pencil drawing. I think they would end up having to make generic versions of many of these rides and that would certainly take away from the experience. As someone who lives in Las Vegas, I sure hope this gets built, but I am skeptical that it will be all that they have envisioned!
  13. Thanks for the TR. You took some really great photos.
  14. ^That shuttle loop in Nepal mentioned above is awesome. RCDB says it is human powered! Now that is a ride I want to go on! The ride in Pattaya Park in Thailand is a bit wierd. It looks pointless and has never operated. It continues to sit out there rotting. They also have a park in Bangkok with two new coasters that have never operated.
  15. Thanks for the updates. I am looking forward to more. I will most likely be in Japan in about a month and am looking for ideas of places and parks to see. This thread will be invaluable. Keep it up!
  16. Hey you're right! It is a hidden Mickey. I guess they put more thought into the depressing feel of the park than I thought. It is all just theming!
  17. Thanks for the commentary. I agree that SFFT, while small is a pleasant surprise with its beautiful theming and surroundings and its ride selection. SFFT is definitely one of my favorite Six Flags parks.
  18. I am not sure but here is my original picture cropped. You can see the vehicle behind the tree. I am not sure if it was operating, but the ride was complete. I don't have any other pictures of it. It appears to be a ball, but I didn't really pay attention.
  19. In an effort to get these Southeast Asia trip reports done so I can start my China updates, I have two smaller parks for you today. The first park is Yoyo Land. Yoyo Land is a theme park that is aimed towards smaller children. The park is located in a large shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand. Other than a single coaster, the park has a video game dark ride, junior train and a few small flat rides. We actually enjoyed the colors and spent around and hour at the park. The second park is Wonder World Fun Park, also in Bangkok. This park is fairly new and is home to two complete coasters that have never operated. DubaiDave featured some photos on his recent Thailand thread so I will only post a few unique pictures that I have of the park. We only saw one other group there when we visited. The park looks like it has potential, but it needs something. As always keep the comments coming. I hope you enjoy! Goodbye Wonder World. Sorry to have known you, but thanks for the air conditioned ferris wheel ride. So we decided to spice it up by playing a game of chicken! We tried pushing, but that wasn't any fun. Our last stop of the trip came at the self powered train ride. Making our way out of the park we found the Whip of Doom! When we got off of the ferris wheel we found that another group of people had shown up and they were actually riding something! A look at the would be station building for the two coasters. At least the ferris wheel cars were air conditioned. The drop tower and a nasty sewage filled boat ride. (At least I think that is what it used to be!) They have rides thrown about everywhere here. Another view. We decided to hop on the ferris wheel to get an overview of the coasters. One goes around in an oval on the outside while the other turns on itself on the inside. And two intertwined coasters that have never operated. The park has a centerless ferris wheel. From the bright and cheery Yoyo Land we go to the dreary Wonder World Fun Park. Shawn Reece give Yoyo Land a happy thumbs up. Yay for a junior whip! They had three huge children's play areas that looked like a lot of fun. Now I'll end the Yoyo Land part of the update with a few random photos. And they were all hyped up on Pepsi! There was a hidden dark ride portion full of happy insects. We saw the track go through the park, but the ride also had a surprise. The other surprise for us was the small train ride. This is what the screen inside looked like. The next stop for us was Ghost Hunters. This is part shooting dark ride, part video game. Think Toy Story Mania with 1994 graphics. (The credits were copyright Sega 1994) Zoom was nothing special, but it was a fun family coaster. Since it was pay per ride we only went once, but they did give us two cycles. We like that. It also has a couple of tunnels. Zoom is a family coaster that flies over the amusement park. The main reason for our visit was to ride the coaster so we headed over there next. As with most areas of this park it was sponsored by Pepsi. This is what we found. (Notice the large drop in the background!) The map said there was a flume ride so we though, "Cool and indoor log flume!" The park is geared towards children with a good collection of calm rides. After stuffing our bellies it was time for Yoyo Land! Thai food is so wonderful. (Can you tell I love spicy food?) Before we hit the park, it was time for lunch in the mall's food court. There were lots of big colorful characters all around. Just up the escalators is Yoyo Land! Yoyo Land is located in the Seacon Square Shopping Mall. It is one of the largest malls in Thailand.
  20. ^A Big Mike DVD would be awesome! I can see a whole line of Big Mike DVDs starting with Credit Whoring 101! Thanks for the updates Big Mike. It looks like you are having a lot of fun.
  21. Thanks for providing a great history and commentary of a park that I never had the opportunity to visit. I am really enjoying the updates.
  22. I am not sure what #100 was since we were visiting a lot of parks in a row and I didn't keep track. I just got #200 a few weeks back in Thailand. #200 Vortex at Siam Park City in Bangkok, Thailand
  23. Do you have more specific questions. I am in Shenzhen right now and will visit Happy Valley tomorrow. I plan to visit Chimelong in a few days. Ask any questions you have and I will be happy to answer to the best of my ability.
  24. Dream World is definitely the best park in Thailand. It is located around 40km outside of Bangkok. A taxi ride only costs around $10 USD from the city center. The park itself is interesting. Parts of it are ripped straight from the Disney play book, but it is unique in its own way. The front sections of the park consist of large gardens where you can pose with different statues, or just walk around and enjoy the scenery. Once past the gardens the park opens up to a lake with some paddle boats and a few rides. Continue on and you find the majority of rides towards the back of the park. We really enjoyed Dream World a lot. Note: Our camera battery died pretty early in the day, so we got limited pictures. I know there are other Dream World trip reports on this site, so if you are interested in more, search for them! Keep up the comments. I hope you enjoy. Hey we weren't the only ones who thought Dream World was great. I hope you enjoyed the TR. Thanks for reading! Hey, don't you know the camera adds 250 pounds? The locals really seemed to love the pedal boats. Another view of the Sky Coaster. The back of the Space Mountain building. In addition the splash down boats create a large splash! (I deserve a caption award for this one!) The park also has a rather lazily themed raft ride. These figures outside were a lot more fun than the actual attraction. With all three credits accounted for we walked made our way randomly through the park. The first stop was the walk through haunted mansion. A better view of the layout. The coaster basically goes through endless helixes. It is a Vekoma non looping suspended coaster. The final coaster is called "Sky Coaster" and they even have a re-entry tunnel. The lift hill tries to simulate a launch. While the queue and ride don't compare to Disneyland's, this version is still quite a bit of fun. Past the elephants we came to this confusing situation. Space Mountain is located in Adventureland?!?!? Ah elephant riding in a theme park. Now this is something you don't see at home! With our first credit in hand we continued on. Shawn Reece was thrilled to pose for this photo! Speedy Mouse is a "ahem" family coaster. Emerging from the gardens we come to our first credit! The front of the park is lavishly landscaped. Welcome to Dream World! The park entrance looks familiar!
  25. Your description of crossing the street reminds me of Vietnam. Great TR. Thanks for posting!
