  1. I'm sorry! Seriously as much as this has probably been a thread hijack and I won't continue this, I have learned a few things and want to thank everyone. I will be more thoughtful the next time I am in Amish country.
  2. I never knew the employees at La Ronde were unionized. Perhaps this explains a lot about the operations and cleanliness of the park. I persoanlly think that this is by far the worst property in the Six Flags chain. It is clear though that this park has had problems for a long time. I think in adding a couple of good coasters, (Goliath is great) Six Flags can now concentrate on making it feel like less of a dump. Does anyone know why they still allow people to bring in their own food? I would think that they would've gotten rid of this. Of course maybe it has something to do with the local culture. When I was in line for Goliath last year a kid was eating plain tuna fish in front of me with his hands. He had a large plastic container and what looked like three cans worth of tuna. The smell was horrendous! I do love the province of Quebec though. It really is a unique place.
  3. Thanks Big Mike. Boulder Dash looks incredible and that sky ride seems to be a lot of fun. That is definitely a park I would love to visit. I look forward to your next update.
  4. I believe those people are Amish. Not too long ago, taking pictures of the Amish would have been strictly frowned upon. (Useless factoid of knowledge: there are actually 7 different Amish and Mennonite "orders" with varying degrees of strictness.) More useful bit of knowledge, you could buy a combo ticket good for one day each at Dutch Wonderland and Hersheypark. Check out the park's website for pricing and info. So is it still frowned upon? If not what changed. I really wasn't aware of this, but since I come from the west coast this was my first and only Amish experience. Thanks for the useless factoids!
  5. Sure. You come down from the tower out of screen on the left on a tube. Your tube reaches the top of the slide on the right and you fall back down to the middle backwards. The exit to the ride is in that flat section in the middle. I also agree about great coasters. It is too bad they don't feel like building any. The park itself is well themed, but it really lacks any great rides. The Lost City of Gold coaster is ok, but it is quite small and the waterslides are all pretty generic. Overall though it was a pretty good day! Thanks for the comments.
  6. I always figured that they were Amish, but thought that I would ask given the intense nature of the conversation here. Thanks!
  7. Sunway Lagoon Part 2 - Bottom Portion of the park including the waterpark. The extreme park was closed on the day we visited and I couldn't get any pictures of it. It was a shame because included in admission to the extreme park is: ATV riding, a zip line from the top of the bridge into the pool below and paint ball battles. I was so sad to see that it was closed. Oh well. I hope you enjoy the TR. (See pg. 1 of this post for the 1st part.) My next post from Malaysia will be of Cosmo's World. Cosmo's World is located in a mall in KL and houses the best non space themed indoor coaster I have ever been on! Stay tuned! Disney just had to make its way into this park as well! They sure do get around! More random scenery! Hmmmmmm. More super lazy river. Waterslides! Take that Big Mike! A hot bikini babe! Pretty scenery. The slowest lazy river ever. You literally had to swim or you would just feel a gentle pull from the water but not enough to move you. It was lame! A car wash style shower. Another view of the gorgeous hotel. Wave pool and sandy beach. Them theme park section high above. At the bottom of the bridge. Nice signage.
  8. I took this picture in Lancaster last year. Are they Mennonites or Amish? On their way to Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster!
  9. Where was this carnival? I have been to the San Gennaro Feast in Las Vegas a couple of times and have never had any problems. With that said, name a fair that you have been to recently that hasn't been ghetto! From the carnies to bad food and people puking every couple of cycles, carnivals are always an intersting experience IMO.
  10. Wood Dragon - The park actually looked to be pretty well maintained. I never felt nervous about riding any of the attractions. Kingbooba - I don't remember there being a Top Spin at Dam Sen. What picture are you talking about. Maybe I can tell you what it is that you are seeing. CoasterEric - Thanks for the nice comments. So far I have only been to Dream World in Thailand, but am going to visit Siam Park City when I return to Bangkok in a few weeks. First I will finish the Malaysia park TRs before moving on to the Thailand parks. Thanks again!
  11. I think the park could use another great wooden coaster, but think that Six Flags doesn't have the capital to build another coaster in this park in 2009. I think they will be opening coasters in parks that didn't receive any this year. (SFMM SFNE, etc.) Some parks like SFA and SFKK haven't received any coasters in several years. Whatever happens, I am sure parks like SFOT that are good performers for the company will continue to see capital investment, just not a new coaster every year.
  12. Very interesting?!?!?!?!? While I don't really get it, thanks for going through the effort of writing and posting it!
  13. The Sunway Lagoon theme park is housed in a large resort complex about twenty minutes outside of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The resort consists of a large mall, resort hotel and the theme park. As for the park itself, it was built on the site of an old tin mine and is broken into four parts. High on top of the hill is the theme park portion, while down below in the old mine are a water park, extreme park and animal park. The animal and extreme parks were closed on the day we visited, but we did spend a lot of time in the other areas. The first part of the TR will focus on the theme park and part 2 will have some pictures of the lower level waterpark. If you have any questions please let me know. I hope you enjoy the TRs from Southeast Asia. Sunway Lagoon Part 1: A look back at the theme park. Look for part 2 where I will have a lot of pictures of the water park and lower area of the park! Hello down there! A picture of the beautiful resort hotel. From the bridge we got our first glimpse of the water park. The bridge goes on forever and crosses the entire park, passing over the water park, extreme park and animal park. Finally we got a glimpse of the real reason for our visit. Sunway Lagoon is home to the largest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world. From below we got a nice look at one of Lost City's small airtime hills Once we left the western area a quick visit to the Scholar Rocks was in order. They are housed in the building below the Lost City of Gold coaster. Buffalo Bill Coaster train. The second coaster is called Buffalo Bill Coaster. It is a junior coaster that wraps around the log ride. Unfortunately, this is the best picture that I got of it. The log ride features a drop out of a snake's mouth. Unfortunately it was closed when we visited. From Lost City of Gold we headed back into the Western themed section of the park. It houses a rapids ride, log ride and a junior roller coaster. The coaster is built on top of a building that houses a cave stone exhibition. At one point the train goes through a tunnel where lights flash and a monster noise is played. Going up the Lost City of Gold lift hill. The Lost City of Gold Coaster is very small, but the backseat gives an incredible amount of air time. Immediately after entering you come to the first coaster. Sunway Lagoon park entrance. This was by far the nicest mall we saw in Malaysia. It even had an ice rink. (Oh yah I forgot the mall also has KFC & Pizza Hut among others!) The large mall outside of the theme park. It is called Sunway Pyramid and is home to such American favorites as McDonalds, Tony Roma's, Burger King, Wendys & Carl's Jr. To get to the park we had to take the KL Monorail from our hotel to the train station then board a commuter train for twenty minutes, before catching a bus to the park.
  14. When I was there last year the only problem I had was communication when Kingda Ka broke down. We sat in the line for nearly thirty minutes and no one came to tell us what was going on. Finally when most of the people decided to leave the line the ride started to go again. A simple briefing every few minutes would have been great, instead the operations staff was talking to each other. With that said, the park is beautiful and it sounds like the new training will help with the little things that were getting overlooked on the customer service front. I am a really big Six Flags fan and all of the changes continue to excite me!
  15. I am pretty sure it was moved from Germany.
  16. Wow! Thanks for that track layout. After watching the video a couple of times I can see where the sets seem pretty elaborate. The one dimensional film just fails to give a good idea. I am really looking forward to it now!
  17. I think there are really two sorts of enthusiasts we need to talk about. There is a theme park enthusiast and then a Disney fanatic. I think I sort of belong in both groups. While I follow Disney very closely and find that Disneyland is perhaps my favorite place on Earth, I find that I love it because I am an amusement park enthusiast. Right now I am travelling around the world to expand my knowledge of other people and cultures, but also find the time to sneak out to a park and ride some roller coasters. Most of the Disney hardcore fanatics that I come across only like Disney and really obsess about it. I too follow all of the rumors and even find myself listening to Disney fan podcasts, but just don't find the need to nitpick everything. Of course, after reading some of the Disney forums, it is clear that Disney is everything to some of these people. When they are now at Disneyland or WDW it is always on their mind. If you were obsessing about Disney 24/7 then you might be able to find hundreds of things to complain about. For me, I go there and am taken into a world that doesn't exist anywhere else. The only thing I wonder is why they haven't brought more of that TDS magic to the states. Is it budgetary or do they have an agreement not to duplicate some of those rides in the states? Either way I want to thank Disney and the Imagineers for keeping the magic alive. Like I said I will take Disneyland over just about anywhere else in the world. (I still haven't been to the Tokyo Disneyland Resort!)
  18. Big Mike, Thanks for ALL that you do! Sincerely, A loyal Big Mike fan
  19. If I'm not mistaken I do believe the 1.1 billion did not include Toy Story Midway Mania. That is correct. The new Pixar Play Parade and Midway Mania were already in development and paid for before the $1.1billion was approved. I also believe that I read the upcoming World of Color lagoon show is outside of the $1.1 billion as well, but I am not 100% sure on that.
  20. I visited 10 Six Flags parks last year and SFAM is by far the worst. It seems like corporate has just forgotten about this park. The staff was rude and the park seemed quite run down. This honestly doesn't surprise me given what I saw there last year. I guess the small parks like SFAM are flying under the radar right now with all of the focus going into fixing their trademark properties.
  21. Thanks. Nice TR. I really enjoyed your pictures! It looks like you had a great day.
  22. Thanks. I like what I see so far. Keep it coming!
  23. Thanks I really enjoyed your video. I hope everything goes well with your mom's health. It is great that things are starting to turn around for you guys. Family is so important!
  24. Thanks for the pictures and bringing us something different. I love trains and really enjoyed the TR. I guess it is the Disney fan inside of me. My wife rolls her eyes every time I need to ride the subway or monorail in a new city. BTW the Big Mike picture is priceless. It took me several minutes to get past it!
  25. Basically it is a way of syndicating content so someone can subscribe and receive updates. For instance many blogs have RSS feeds so someone can subscribe and be notified when an update is posted. In addition there are also programs that will aggregate different RSS feeds and put them together so you can view information from several different places at once. This is a very popular to gather news without having to visit several different sites. For more information I suggest you read the Wikipedia article which explains it better. Here is the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS I hope this helps!
