  1. This thread is begging for a joke about British teeth, but I'll exercise restraint.
  2. According to this list: Bruce Springsteen > Prince Shania Twain > Miles Davis Kenny G > NWA I could make like 500 more examples of how jacked up this ranking is. It's interesting how they have some really good albums mixed in with complete crap, and in seemingly no particular order.
  3. Honestly, if your parents don't like to travel, you're probably sunk for now. My family pretty much goes on the same boring vacation EVERY YEAR! In a few years, however, you'll be able to go on your own coaster trips, and your parents' sedentary ways won't matter. I have two suggestions to prepare for this: 1) Get some sort of job (harder at your age, I know), and start saving every penny you make. Coaster trips aren't cheap, and you might need money to buy a car when you're old enough. 2) Make friends with older people who are into travelling to parks. If your parents trust these people, they might be eager to let you travel with them to get you off their backs.
  4. Where was that? Road Runner? I'll have to look for it next time! I don't remember the name of the place. It was pretty close to the kiddie coaster (Wile E. Coyote Canyon Blaster) that was shut down that day. They were crappy smaller TVs that were kinda hard to see from the tables, but it was still a sweet idea.
  5. That list is an absolute fraud. 57 50 CENT GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN' 2003 Rap 111 RADIOHEAD O.K. COMPUTER 1997 Rock When a fricken' 50 cent album is #57 while Radiohead's best work gets #111, I call BS on this ranking list.
  6. Yeah, and characters were out in full force as well. I think I saw more characters last Sunday than I did last time I went to Magic Kingdom. They also had a pretty neat place where you could watch Road Runner cartoons while eating pizza. I'd like to see something like that at every Six Flags park.
  7. You should have gone last Sunday when I went. The park was DEAD. I rode Goliath like 7 times, and could have easily done dozens of laps. I think Georgia Cyclone was the longest queue due to single train operation, but even that took 20 minutes tops. I've never been there before, but I must say the park looks great now. It's easily the nicest Six Flags park that I've been to. Mind Bender and Goliath were running GREAT! I know Mind Bender is supposed to be a good ride, but I wasn't expecting it to be close to the best thing in the park. I'd totally trade SFOG for my home park (KI). S:UF is so not worth a 2.5 hour wait. I guess I should be glad that my trip didn't coincide with the ACE event.
  8. I still don't understand why they completely changed the name. Hasn't this park always been known as Marine World? I dunno. I just don't see the point of changing a 20 year old name. Did the name "Marine World" have a bad rep, or something?
  9. I agree that Holiday World is an excellent value. I think that they, more than any park I've been to, go out of their way to NOT rip you off. I wind up spending more money there than at some other parks, because their reasonable prices don't make me cringe when I pull out my wallet. Considering their remote location, however, I think that being a great deal is an absolute necessity for them. They can't get by on being the default park near a big city, like so many seasonal parks do. Didn't they raise gate prices accordingly the year they added the "free soda"? I've heard that, but wasn't around back then to confirm. I also think they should switch to Coke products.
  10. Look out Hades here comes a mini mouse!
  11. According to the mousesavers.com lady, the meal plans are a good deal if you know what you're doing. In other words, you have to watch out to make sure you're getting a good deal. Here is the link: http://www.mousesavers.com/diningplantips2007.html
  12. You should give them a whirl before making any judgements. The Herschend parks, Dollywood and Silver Dollar City, are nearly as well themed and carefully thought out as anything in Florida.
  13. You're judging parks you've never been to by photos? That's pretty silly. There are a lot of parks that don't look like much, but turn out to be a lot of fun. Indiana Beach is a great example of such a park.
  14. Good luck with that "no traffic" idea. You're talking about SoCal, which is a totally different world than Ohio as far as traffic conditions are concerned. If you live in San Diego, it doesn't make much sense to work at Magic Mountain, which is hours away. That could easily be a 3-hour drive, which would add up to a 6 hour daily commute! Legoland would be your best bet if you're dead set on working at a park.
  15. San Diego is a heck of a lot nicer place than anywhere in Ohio. You've also got Legoland and Disneyland close by. While those parks don't have big coasters (except for California Screamin'), they are still TONS of fun. Universal Hollywood isn't much, but at least you've got a close enough Halloween Horror Nights now! I'd love to live in San Diego! But, I don't want to live in a closet for 2 grand a month.
  16. Thanks for the input, but I actually will be spending a decent amount of time in the hotel. The park closes at 7 PM on both nights that I'll be staying in the hotel. It looks like it's about $50 for two nights to avoid Bon Air, which might be worth it. Who wants to pay $125/night to possibly have to walk up to the third floor? I've never heard of a hotel without an elevator, and I've stayed in some real dumps. You're right about taking travel reviews with a grain of salt, but there are several scathing reviews about Bon Air. That sounds more like a consensus than a few angry idiots with unrealistic expectations.
  17. This actually sounds like a really good idea. I think I'm going to shoot for a May 13th through 15th trip now. Whatever crowds I run into on Sunday will be made up for by the park being totally dead on Monday and Tuesday. Now I'm just trying to figure out where to stay. My original reservations are for Breakers Express, but now I think I should consider staying closer to the park. Sandcastle Suites is not an option, as it doesn't appear to be open that early in the season. Does anyone know if the "Bon Air"/original wing of Hotel Breakers is as bad as people claim it is? I checked a few travel review sites, and the consensus seems to be that it is an absolute PIT. Should I pay the extra money to avoid the original wing?
  18. I read that Phantom Manor used to have Vincent Price as the Ghost Host, until Disney worked out a deal with the Frenchies to have the ride narrated in French. While I can appreciate wanting to have the ride narrated in the native tongue, I'm sad I missed out on that. I'm going to go with the Disneyland version of Pirates for my favorite dark ride. I haven't seen anything quite like it.
  19. There's no need to feel bad. They warned the guy 3 times. How dumb can you get?
  20. I was thinking that they might not include Maverick yet in the resort guest/Joe Cool ERT, due to problems with some other coasters *cough* *cough* *Dragster*. But, I was wrong. http://resorts.cedarpoint.com/public/resorts/index.cfm?resort_id=2 Early access pass includes Maverick, Millennium Force, Raptor, and Skyhawk. This is, of course, for the resort guests, but I'm pretty sure that the Joe Cool ERT is the same as what they give the resort guests. I wonder if this will be the case on opening day.
  21. I'm going to Cedar Point opening weekend. And I'm definitely going for Maverick. Lines could be bad, but oh well. I wonder if it would be a good idea to hit Maverick later in the day, after doing everything else. They could be jerks and shut down the queue early though.
  22. Report the douche bags. These are the same idiots that would sue in a second when they get hurt while violating park rules.
  23. It's hard to say how this will turn out, as details are scarce. I think returning to old school animation is a nice move. I haven't liked most of the Pixar stuff, except for the Incredibles. But, I'm not in their target demographic, so who cares what I think.
