Why don't you get a camera and take some pictures we haven't seen before? Using rcdb pictures for your trip report is silly.

Kentucky Kingdom (SFKK, KK) Discussion Thread
ginzo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, it's already about as unquiet as a theme park accident can get. Countless people have asked me if I heard about "the roller coaster that cut that girl's feet off". But yeah, best to get the story out of the news post haste. -

Your photography skills have improved like 10,000x since your blurry pictures of track pieces sitting in KI's parking lot earlier this year. Nice work. Now give us some pictures from a park other than KI! -
4 Year Old Drowns At Great America (California)
ginzo replied to KGA29's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Although we obviously don't know the specifics on this case, I think that unsupervised kids is a big problem at amusement parks these days. We were at Knoebels last Sunday, and saw a parent send his 3 or 4-year old son to ride the Sky Slide completely unsupervised. For those of you who haven't been on this slide, you have to climb a pretty steep spiral staircase to get to the top of the slide. The steps were more than half as tall as the little boy. We helped the kid climb his way to the top, but why the HELL did the parent send him up on his own? They don't collect your ride tickets until you get on the slide. It doesn't take a Nobel Laureate to ascertain that little kids and stairs don't mix. -

I'd bet my paycheck that the settlement will be out of court. Six Flags doesn't have a leg to stand on. There's no way they can blame the rider for this, and they don't want the press of a prolonged trial. They could win this case with Lionel Hutz, the alcoholic lawyer from The Simpsons (RIP Phil Hartman). -
I agree that Six Flags is doing much better these days. We hit Great Adventure last Saturday, and it was easily one of our greatest park days ever. There's zero doubt in my mind now that Great Adventure whomps Cedar Point. They've got the rides and the park operations seem to be under control. Several employees were downright cordial, including a few of the ops for El Toro. Now if they could only install a few hotels in their vast reaches of south Jersey swampland.

Cedar Fair seeks buyout.
ginzo replied to FlyingScooter's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, and some people loved SOB in its glory days of untrimmed ultra violence. That's the corporate park woodie scam in action. If they all are too cheap to properly maintain their wood, people will just assume that karate chops to the kidneys are normal for woodies. Note that I don't think there is actual collusion going down. Maybe that explains why people up there love Villain. -
Teen kicked out of Park for taking picture
ginzo replied to spaceace12's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Although I'm unsure of the precise legal mumbo jumbo, a lot of shysters would challenge the notion of anyone kicked out for any arbitrary reason. Amusement parks aren't entirely private property because they're open to the public like a mall. Of course, they have the right to set rules and enforce them consistently. I'd charge back my admission quicker than you can say "refund" if I was booted for a bogus reason. But. I don't go around making a jackass out of myself in public either. -

Now why don't you tell us how you really feel. 2.5 million down to ~700,000? That's pretty darn bad, if true. I think the point is that Geauga Lake is just a dump right now as far as the rides side goes. And this won't change. The park has maybe one good coaster. The rest is garbage. They supposedly re-tracked Villain in the off season, but it still runs like hell. Raging Wolf Bobs was so neglected that it derailed. Considering the financial situation at Cedar Fair right now, they aren't likely to re-invest in Geauga Lake. At least not enough to make a difference. Major investments are going to come at a trickle until they can service their debt down a bit. They could expand the waterpark for a lot less money than it would cost to install a few major coasters. Maybe this is the best way for them to go from here since that seems to be what people want out of Geauga Lake presently. -
What is your next park?

Either Holiday World or Silver Dollar City. -

I agree that Cedar Fair isn't all that great. Six Flags unquestionably has a better collection of rides if you look compare the two chains. Cedar Fair may have ran their parks a little bit better in the past, but Shapiro is rapidly closing this gap. -

If the G-trains are as bad as everyone says they are, it's only a matter of time before they chew up the track. -
Mummy Coaster Getting More Scarier?

Yes, because their previous rail would have surely worn off during that insanely long escalator ride to get to Mummy. -

They could give away free cocaine at the Hollywood Mummy and it still wouldn't touch the one in Orlando. -

I don't think that's what's happening here, at least not according to that article. It sounds like the management team is just fishing for a better deal. And firms going private is the new black these days. If they can offload the debt to another firm, retain control of the business, and make more money in the process, then more power to them. -
Don't waste your money at those rip off stands by the highways in Tennessee. Go to Premium Fireworks on Pike Street in Covington. It's literally half the price of those stores with the big signs by the highways. And the owners are very helpful about telling you what the good stuff is. They'll freely admit that a certain product sucks, or isn't worth the money.

I like fireworks; I am 21. Blowing stuff up never gets old. I got bored with it after I outgrew my teenage Beavis stage. It's easy to spend hundreds of dollars on the 4th. It just doesn't amuse me anymore. Large scale shows are still cool to watch, of course.

Were you wearing those shorts from the Alton Towers video at the time?

I Really Want The Nikon Coolpix P5000 Camera
ginzo replied to kissorkill2night's topic in Random, Random, Random
Read some of the Amazon reviews first. There are a few obviously hardcore shutterbugs on there who write up decent reviews. In general, Nikon's Coolpix cameras get bashed a lot. I've never owned one. So, I can't comment. But, be sure to compare it to similar Canon and Kodak cameras. It's a mistake to assume that because Nikon makes excellent SLRs that their point-and-shoots are equally good in their class. -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

I can't wait until they tear down this rough, pointless woodie. Kinzel himself admitted that the project didn't work out. Seriously, what's the point of re-opening this POS? It smeared their reputation last year when it mangled a few riders. If there is another accident, they're going to get absolutely creamed in court. -
I liked fireworks; when I was 15.

I pretty much agree with his ideas, except for putting a woodie on the beach behind WT. They should leave the beach unmolested. I don't think Cedar Point is too interested in breaking any airtime records though. That doesn't sell as well as the "tallest, fastest, longest coaster in the whole world" garbage.
-
His home park gets a really good woodie, and then he croaks just a few months later. Though I dunno if Renegade qualifies as having extreme airtime or not. Knowing GCII it doesn't. 44 is pretty darn young to eat it.
