Nürburgring launched coaster
dr.gumbo replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looking awesome, I'm glad they didn't go with the original plans and actually made this into a proper coaster. -
Wassup homies. This is a contest that's currently running over at Coasterfuel.com and I received permission to post it over here. Don't worry, you don't have to join another forum to join, just sign up here and post your entries here, simple as. The following is a copy of the rules stated: --- THE DEADLINE IS AUGUST 15, 2009, 11:59PM GMT-5 In other words, you've got plenty of time. --- RULES: 1a: All track and supports must stay inside the entire template! Anything outside results in disqualification! 1b: Any track at 85 feet or lower from the ground (25.91 meters) will be tunnel tested. Any track above 85 feet (25.91 meters) will not be tunnel tested. 2a: Wooden coasters are allowed. 2b: All wooden coasters must not have maroon track or white supports. 2c: Morgan trains (for wooden coasters) are not allowed. (2b and 2c are in place so the GP wouldn't confuse the ride with Jack Rabbit, the 89 year old wooden coaster that encircles this land plot) 3: Nothing is allowed in the red boxes - they are currently existing rides. Not following this rule results in disqualification! 4: In the purple box, track is allowed, and so are supports, however the track is not allowed to go under the markers. 5: Terrain is allowed to be edited anywhere except under the red boxes and the purple square, but must be sent in to at least one of the judges for evaluation to see if it is "too much" 6: The template is not allowed to be edited. (The terrain is, but NONE of the supports or boundaries.) Failure to follow this rule results in disqualification. 7: Max height is 130 feet (39.62 meters) above the ground. Since the template is elevated, this is technically a max height of 184 feet (56.08 meters). Points in technical are reduced by 1 point for each part of the ride that is too high. 8: No max speed, although getting above 60 mph (96 km/h) will be pretty hard in this land plot. Kudos for those (although no bonuses) for those who hit past 65 mph (105 km/h). 9: No length limit or minimum, although it's going to be hard getting anything over 1/2 a mile in here. 10: Must be over 45 miles per hour (72 km/h) . Anything under 45 mph will result in a 1.5 point reduction in technical score. 11: If you are making a wooden coaster, the G force limits are as follows: -Maximum Vertical: 4 -Maximum Airtime: -1.6 -Maximum Lateral G's: +/-1.8 -Maximum Acceleration G's: 2.91, or Dodonpa's acceleration force (if you feel like making a launched woodie) 12: If you are making a steel coaster, the G force limits are as follows: -Maximum Vertical: 5.4 -Maximum Airtime: -1.6 -Maximum Lateral G's: +/-1.4 -Maximum Acceleration G's: 2.91, or Dodonpa's acceleration force. 13: 3DS is allowed, but will not be judged. 14: You CAN put anything you want OVER the red sections, even stations. But if the prefab stations walls go into the red area, no points will be taken off for that. Although custom stations would be recommended. (IE made out of supports or 3DS.) 15: You can put the station anywhere you are allowed to put track. 16: Shuttle Coasters are allowed, even if it's a launched wooden shuttle... that is possible you know. --- Here is a picture of the template: --- Judges: 1: Tanks4me 2: Brandon4579 3: And possible me. --- As always, enjoy! 200952620451_Coasterfuel Tight Fit Terrain Contest Template.nltrack

^ No, because I have two rides left to rate myself. EDIT: One now... -
The "Preview" Thread

^ Oops, completely forgot about that one. lol BTW, Incase anyone's interested, I haven't given up on Zombie Nation or Mr.Ridley, I just don't have anything to say about them for the time being. I know I tend to cancel a lot of projects, that is why I'm determined to get them finished. I won't let you all down (again). lol -
Seems to me that you've got the track shaping + supports nailed. Plus I like the large 3d footer (forgot what their technical term is lol) you have there. The only real thing I can complain about is the colours, they seem to be a bit too yellow but other than that, awesome work.

^ No, you shoot off the top at 100mph and plummet back down to earth in a messy manner. Looks good, Dbru. Can't remember the last time you released a steel coaster. lol -
Wooden Coaster Challenge
dr.gumbo replied to Eric_Smith's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Here's my rate for Koolkid's ride: What I liked -The twister/terrain approach of the layout. -The pacing was good. -I actually found it quite fun. What could be improved -The layout had no sense of planning i.e. it was a mess. -Some of the elements were far too big. -The supports were an Auto-generated mess. -Lifts/brake runs weren’t straight. -The forces were too unrealistic. -The turns had no lead-ins as far as banking is concerned. -Some elements were taken far too fast. -The track work was quite sloppy with a lot of pumps and inconsistent track shaping. -The terraforming felt rushed. My Verdict Clearly, you aren’t the most experienced contestant in this challenge but it was a refreshing entry none-the-less. -
^ Ask and you shall receive: -Height: 180ft -Speed: 70mph -A beyond 90 degree drop (actual gradient unknown, I can't be bother to find it out lol). That's about all I can confirm for now. I've decided to scrape a bit of the layout so I haven't got much to report on really. Don't lose interest though.

People's insight into this amazes me.

^ You simple auto-generate the main body of supports by themselves, select all, recolour and change the support type and auto-generate the catwalks and such with the enable supports box un-ticked. -

Do you take pride in acting like an a$$hole. lol It's quite difficult to define what is original and what isn't. I tend to base my judgement on originality on how you adapt a certain track style. On the recent B&M Hyper contest, I decided that Jarmor's ride was more original because he took B&M's style and make it his own rather than simple replicating it. Of coarse, you can go overboard and simply produce something completely untrue to the B&M style, and people would would criticise as such. You could alternatively create your own style, which if done right would be fantastic. But then you have to get a happy medium between original shaping and such and downright bad shaping, which at time's can be quite difficult to achieve. Either way, it depends what you consider original, as I said above. I considered that element on the page before very original but obviously Xpress didn't for whatever reason. -

^ Specifically I was referring to the valley preceding that hill. The part you showed me was fine lol. -

^ What I meant was that the curvature of the hills was inconsistent, making them jerky. I don't really care about how accurately it represents whatever company, but you can still have flawed shaping none-the-less. -

Looks awesome, but I think some of the shaping on the hills needs a bit of refining. Also, some of the banking needs sorted out a bit but other than that, it looks great. I love the vertical drop. -
I don't think a woodie can be 'too smooth'. It's the shaping which makes a ride aggressive, not the trackwork. Anyhow, here's what I though (from the video perspective, my computers far too slow to appreciate it in the simulator): What I liked -The great trackwork. -The superb pacing throughout. -The Legend-inspired layout. -The bunny hops at the end. What I felt could be improved -Some of the hills, especially towards the end, weren't shaped that well i.e. they seemed to jerk over the crest. -I felt the ride could have been a bit more aggressive, but that's just me. -Wasn't the most original ride in the world. My Verdict Smooth, fast, and fun. What more can you ask for (except for the above lol) 8/10

Wooden Coaster Challenge
dr.gumbo replied to Eric_Smith's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
^^ Owned. lol ^ Got any picture's or anything, or do you want to keep it a secret. -
Here's a project I started to cure the boredom I suffered while constucting my other project (Zombie Nation, which isn't cancelled in case your worried). Unlike that one, this will be mostly hand made with a few parts heart-lined with the AHG. The layout is mosly based on Fahrenheit, Maverick and Stormrunner. Here are a few pictures: Maverick-esque barrel roll under an airtime-hill Beyond vertical first drop Any comment/suggestions?

CoasterSims.com no more?
dr.gumbo replied to Qixote's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
^ I agree, that site did a lot for NoLimits users like ourselves. Nearly all the additional NL hoopla and crap originated there and people should remember that. Maybe the community didn't suit you much, but so what. If you didn't like it, you should have hopped to Coastercrazy.com instead, simple as. Just because your at odds with something doesn't mean you have to damn it to hell. -

^^ I'm not sure how the ride's will be marked, I haven't been highlighted on the matter yet. Also, your ride looks awesome, can't wait to see more.
