  1. I assume that this coaster uses just one train; but regardless, I thought it was weird that (according to what I've seen in the on-ride video) there's no catwalk for the lift hill. Even if you're not expecting a safety cut-out or a block section stop that you would still need a catwalk for the maintenance crew to inspect the chain everyday.
  2. I'm glad that you enjoyed Waldameer, but I have a tip for you and anyone else who plans on visiting the park. Don't waste your time eating in the park (sorry Waldameer). You guys hit the nail on the head with the food because it isn't worth paying that kind of money for. I recommend waiting until you leave and driving down the road a little further to Sara's (it's decked out with old cars and old Coke machines). The food is simple, but very good. I also recommend making Presque Isle a visit because they have some awesome recreational areas and beaches. Beach 10 (Budny Beach if I remember correctly" is my favorite because it's at the very tip of the peninsula and you get the biggest "surf" I believe. looking down towards the main land surf Lake Erie through the trees!
  3. Looks like you caught me Robb! I was just leaving the Tom Ridge Center when you took this shot (blue truck). Waldameer was so nice to us, gotta love Waldameer.
  4. I agree that the coaster wasn't rough, but it must have been the fact that I was "out of tune" because I was having problems riding it. It felt like my stomach was creeping up into my neck when we went through the turnaround and dropped back down to the bridge. Also my ears were hurting when we were flying through the last two tunnels. I don't think I've ever been through a tunnel that fast before. Finally the S-turn/hill before the 90 degree turn kind of pushed me over the top. I guess because my body expects to immediately bank the other way when we level off, but we dive to the right into the 90 degree turn instead. So I guess if you don't ride rollercoasters often like me, I guess 9 or so trips on the RFII might be your limit. Eh I'm a disgrace to coaster buffs, oh well...
  5. ^ Btw Robb, thanks for the opportunity to ride the RF2 and to be a part of the film shoot. The experience was awesome. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to honor the dedication needed to ride it over and over. I left after lunch because it didn't make much sense for me to be there if I couldn't ride anymore. I guess I won't ever marathon anything again. It was a pleasure meeting everyone...
  6. Well this story evolved over several runs where everybody kept talking about a bird flying out of the last tunnel every time the train entered it (the bird must of had a nest in there). I only saw the bird once while I was riding towards the back and as the first half of the train entered I saw the silhouette of the bird racing the train out of the tunnel. Robb then said at lunch that he could see the bird almost flying right beside his head as the train went through the tunnel.
  7. It's good to be back home after today because it didn't go liked I hoped. When I arrived at Waldameer this morning I wasn't feeling nervous, sick, or tired, but nature would have a different plan for me. I had three great first rides on this coaster. It totally blew me away and I loved it. However, after my fourth ride I started to feel a little sick, but like a tough coaster junky I thought nothing of it. Then the fifth and sixth rides came and I thought I wouldn't be able to keep my food down, so I asked for someone to switch out with me. After a few circuits I jumped back in in hopes of redeeming myself, but I was only able to stomach four more trips around and then I had to get off. I really felt bad (naturally and mentally) because there were other people there who could stomach the coaster and I should have known better to think that I could handle it. I guess I didn't expect this coaster to be an extreme woodie. I got to admit it was funny seeing that bird flying out of the third tunnel and almost hitting Robb... I finish this with a picturesque view of the train negotiating the turn/drop... RF2 train going by... liked this picture alot for some reason not a bad day, damn my insides... updated Waldameer map 1 lap down, how many left you say? Robb getting his gear ready brave souls...
  8. I'm really looking forward to the film shoot on Tuesday. Plus it gives me a reason not to be working...
  9. Robb, I got the email and I'm certain that I'm going, but I was wondering if American Eagle or polo shirts were alright. If not then no big deal, I can always buy a new shirt.
  10. I guess it would be kind of dumb to pass up an opportunity like this. It would be pretty sweet to meet some TPRers finally... well I did meet Coastin Katie, but it would still be cool nonetheless.
  11. ^^ Aw sorry; luckily for me I was older whenever I experienced those micro bursts. Fortunately for you the F5 you encountered will probably never be compared to anything you might encounter today. F5s are rare and are often seeked by storm chasers, but you have to be lucky or unlucky depending how you're looking at it. Also, most waterspouts I think are F0s or F1s usually, I never heard of a water spout being destructive.
  12. ^ That's crazy, I don't think I would want to be on the water during a thunderstorm or while there's a tornado coming down on me, haha...
  13. ^^ That sucks, I don't think I could live anywhere between Ohio and Colorado. That's the thing I love about Pittsburgh, it's all hills and mountains. Well at least most tornadoes don't touch down except for a few... Yeah that's the Cathedral of Learning...
  14. It's deja vu for the Pens and Senators, but it seems the Senators are really hurting in the off season. I guess we'll see what happens... go pens!
  15. ^ While it's not impossible for a tornado to form there I think it's highly unlikely because you need a crap load of moisture and as we all know Las Vegas is very dry.
  16. By the way, tornadoes and lightning kind of go hand and hand, so I also got this video of a pretty intense thunderstorm on Canadohta Lake if you like lightning! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21Hb03NS9Wg
  17. I know there's a "What's the Weather Like Where You Live?" thread, but we don't get too many tornadoes where I live and besides this topic is about Tornadoes in general. I've been obsessed with tornadoes ever since the late 1990's when I saw the movie Twister for the first time. I was in elementary school, but I was really fascinated by them and I used to tape all the storm chaser specials on the Discovery Channel along with the coaster shows they would occasionally put on (I definitely was a nerd growing up, I'm still a nerd for the most part). I personally was never affected by a tornado, but I came very close on 3 different occasions. Late May in 1998, our house was hit dead on by a micro-burst which isn't a tornado, but it's a downward motion of air that is the result of the jet stream colliding with the storm clouds and being forced downward towards the earth surface. Anyway we had some roof damage and we lost 3 trees. The second experience was another micro-burst in 1999 in early June which was almost a year after the first micro-burst. We lost another tree and one of the huge branches from the maple tree in our backyard fell and destroyed the next door neighbor's shed. The third was in 2000 when I was camping at the Seven Ranges campground in Kensington, Ohio and one day there was a tornado warning for our area and it was kind of scary because we only had tents and the only structure nearby was a latrine and the cafeteria was about a mile away, so we really couldn't go anywhere for shelter. There was in fact a funnel cloud that was forming right above where we were, but thankfully it didn't touch down near us. I would later learn from my parents that western PA was devastated by tornadoes that day. While I wasn't present during this next example I was kind of devastated by it's impact. Late Spring in 2001, I was umpiring a little league game and I remember seing an abundance of lightning to our south (we were north of pittsburgh), so the other umpire and I called the game. When I got home the news said that Kennywood was hit by a tornado and that The Whip roof collapsed. That was the last time I remember there being a tornado in the immediate area of Pittsburgh. Anyway, I'm still obsessed with tornadoes, but not the destruction. Does anyone have any stories or similar experiences with tornadoes? I took this video last summer at our cottage on Canadohta Lake. I thought it was a tornado, but I guess it wasn't. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fCPGAzbuaE
  18. ^ Yeah I think almost everyone knows what your talking about. Pfft, Pennsylvania should be renamed "The Detour State." Oh and don't plan on taking I-80 in the future because they're going to add toll booths. The truck drivers are already pissed off as it is.
  19. I imagine that the bridge had to be a certain color because Penndot can't have anything that is too distracting to the motorists. I'm just glad that they're finally getting this thing built.
  20. ^ Haha, well the "single" rider was a joke among us at Kennywood last year because I'm sure that's what alot of people thought of. I guess we can't really expect everyone to know what a single rider is. ^^ It was free for us last year to get in.
  21. Haha; wow, I forgot about that picture. I'm dead center and at the very back. I'm looking into volunteering again.
  22. I'm impressed because I was going to make a working model once using old model railroad tracks I had, but yeah it didn't work out. Keep it up and goodluck on your project.
  23. Those seats look like Lazyboy chairs... , but I guess they're not as comfy as they look.
  24. That video was awesome, but what was up with your food? I would never eat shrimp with the eyes still in it!
  25. Haha Wes; wasn't it you who made fun of me for talking about Kennywood all the time? Oh well, I guess we're all guilty...
