WDW kidnapping
Dailey Enterprizes replied to RRollergod's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's terrible that this had to happen to that couple. WDW is always going to be a target for people who want to take advantage of tourists. I just wish it wasn't that way... -
I know of one alternate route if you're coming from the north (like I would since I'm from the North Hills) is to go through Etna and get on Route 8 (that takes you across the bridge) and stay on 8 until you hit Swissvale, so you can still go that way, but you would just have to avoid the highway (i 376). ^ To answer your question Swoosh; I'm going to break down all of the coasters individually so you'll know what they're like (from the mildest to the most intense coaster), but assuming that you're not credit whoring, I'll leave the Lil' Phantom out... Racer - Probably the "least" thrilling big-coaster at Kennywood, but it is a fun coaster to ride. It's very smooth and the only thrilling moment is at the very end of the last turn, there is a moment of airtime. Jackrabbit - This coaster is a little rough if you ride the wheel seat on any of the cars (this is due to pumping at the bottom of the first and last drops), but it is a pretty smooth coaster. It has a very simple layout and the train is slow on all of the turns, but the double dip makes up for any boredom that the ride will cause because it's pretty crazy. I recommend front seat of the last car for the best ride experience. Exterminator - This coaster is the indoor themed version of the Crazy Mouse at Dinosaur Beach. It's a wicked coaster and the cars will spin in the dark towards the end of the ride, so if you or your wife get very nauseated with spinning or whatnot, I recommend not riding it. Thunderbolt - Used to be the centerpiece of Kennywood's coaster collection, but now is in the shadows of the Phantom's Revenge. The very beginning and end of this coaster acts much like the Jackrabbit with its drops and flat turns, but it's after the lift hill that sets this coaster from the rest. It enters the bowl section where it literally slams the ride partners together (no center divider) and does it about three times. I would avoid the wheel seat on any of the trains, but not because of the bowl section (the bowl section was done by Andy Vettel, the rest was done by John Miller). Avoid the wheel seats because of the last 90 ft drop. The pullout of the drop has pumping in it and it hurts whenever you're riding in the wheel seat. Phantom's Revenge - I put the Phantom at the top of the thrill list because of its height and speed, but to be honest it's more enjoyable than the Thunderbolt (thanks to the Morgan track and lap bars). So anyway, there you go, but don't forget to do your own investigations into the coasters.

Waldermeer June 2nd
Dailey Enterprizes replied to kidcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Glad to hear that the DINER is doing well, but I prefer the original Sarah's Diner with all the awesome Coca-Cola themed tables and vending machines. Oh and if I had to recommend a beach on Presque Isle it would be Beach 10 (aka Budny's Beach). Anyway those were some cool pics and RF2 seems to be coming along pretty well. Thing is that I heard rumors of Waldameer expanding their water park area? Must have been a fluke... -
Secret Scary Coaster

I'm scared of most Vekomas; especially Boomerangs... -
Que jumpers are pretty nasty, but I think Disney should handle them like Kennywood and just kick them out of the park when it happens because what's stopping them from doing it again on another ride? For example, I went to Kennywood on Memorial Day weekend two years ago and I was waiting in line for The Exterminator while a bunch of kids line jumped us. Me being passive I didn't say much, but one of the Team Members noticed this and called in not only the security, but also some West Mifflin Police to handle the situation. After a lot of words were exchanged I clearly remember the one Police Officer saying, "You're Kennywood day is over!" and they were ejected from the park. I couldn't help but smile.

Today I randomly decided to go to Kennywood for their Night Rider discount ($16 opposed to $31). Unfortunately, I had to get through most of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area to get there, so on like most occasions… I got lost! Well I didn’t quite get lost because I knew where I was going, but I felt like an idiot for getting off at the wrong exit heading into Pittsburgh (Fort Pitt Tunnel/Airport exit rather than the correct Veterans Bridge exit), so with doing that I added a good 45 minutes to my already lengthy drive. I eventually get back onto the Veterans Bridge, but the traffic was a bottleneck when it came to getting off at the Monroeville exit. With some illegal merging (everyone else was doing it) I got to the Boulevard of the Allies and ran into some routine traffic on the Parkway while heading to the Squirrel Hill tunnel. That was another 45 minutes wasted just sitting in traffic, but once getting through Swissvale (I avoided the waterfront because of the construction on the bridge) I was Kennywood bound and got there soon enough. I was expecting to pay the usual $5 parking when I got there, but I noticed that their Kenny Parkway (chairlift) was operating and that meant that the free parking lot level was open. With a duh! decision I headed up to the parking lot. I don’t see why more people use the lot because it provides an excellent view of the park, it gives you a free ride down to the gate and the parking itself is free. Well who knows; the ride down from the top was really nice and got me psyched to ride some coasters. Once I got past the ticket people, security and such I noticed that there was a new electronic sign that displays information about school picnics. That stuff used to be displayed on an old bulletin board. I wasn’t sure where to go first when I came out of the freshly painted tunnel advertising Kennywood’s sister parks. I went straight figuring that I’ll jump on the Jackrabbit or something. I walked passed it and went on the Racer first. The wait wasn’t too bad and for those who like to win, board the train that’s on your right as you enter the station because whatever train that’s there will always win (it has the last inside turn). After that I found myself over by the Thunderbolt. I know that you need a partner to ride it, but I felt like being bad; ha, so I got in line and got a partner. The Thunderbolt really let loose and I didn’t know it at the time, but our train was synchronized with the Phantom’s Revenge train. As soon as our train went through the MCBR the Phantom’s train was already going down its second drop and when we made the turnaround we got a good look at the Phantom’s train traversing the track before it went under us again (I wish I had video). I had an appetite after that, so I got some Potato Patch fries and watched some people broadcasting a new commercial for Kennywood (it was a bunch of kids attacking an adult for Potato Patch fries). I walked around Lost Kennywood for awhile and then I went on the Phantom’s Revenge. I felt so old when I was waiting because almost all of the kids were between 15 and 18 years old. It used to be normal for me to look at teenage girls because, well… I was attracted to them, but now that I’m 20 it feels like I’m doing something wrong. I guess I should have brought a girlfriend or something… The Phantom was great. I got onboard the second to last car and got whipped around pretty good. I barely noticed the new trims on the double dip, so that’s good news for those worried out there. I was pretty much done after that, but I wanted to see the Cosmic Chaos in action. It looked pretty impressive, but I didn’t feel like riding it. I caught a ride on the Jackrabbit before calling it quits, so I got on and sat in the last car. This coaster never stops delivering that awesome pop of airtime. I stopped by the souvenir shop and bought my brother a shot glass. Then I stopped by the fudge shop and got my mom and dad some chocolate covered pretzels and then left. Overall it was a nice visit. I forgot to mention that the whole park was alive with kids from the school picnics and such. I forgot what my school picnics were like when I was younger; it was pretty cool seeing all the youngsters running around. Until next time… Btw I would have called this a Photo Trip Report, but I only took a few good pictures, so I rather leave this labeled as a regular old Trip Report.

^^ While his post might be the first in this thread, it definitely wasn't the first time it was said on these forums. I think even Robb himself said that this park would be a money pit if someone would buy it (2 million in debt alone, if I recall) and it wouldn't make sense for an existing park like Kennywood to buy it because they would only create competition for themselves.

Overrated Parks
Dailey Enterprizes replied to What Now's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kennywood is somewhat overrated on these boards. Some of it may be my fault, but I think it's kind of stupid when so much hype is generated when Kennywood puts in a new flat ride. Don't get me wrong, I love what Kennywood is doing, but it's not like they're putting in a new coaster or something. -

Make sure to stop by a Giant Eagle while you're in Pittsburgh to pick up a cheaper $21 ticket for Kennywood instead of paying $31 at the gates.
