  1. Yeah, Billy Mays was one of the less annoying TV ad people you would see and I had respect for the guy. He grew up in nearby McKees Rocks, Pa and I somewhat thought of him as a local icon. On top of that, he was only 50; my dad is 75 himself, so Billy Mays died young in my books. Rest in Peace...
  2. I was quite suprised by the amount of Red Wing fans that were hanging around for the ceremony. I don't think anyone left until the final group picture was taken.
  3. The Penguins deserve it, I love them.
  4. Well, I don't think they will get enough customers to stay in business, when there is hardly anything for people over the age of 12 to do. For example, I'm LOVE traditional parks, and live 3 hours away. But there's no way in h*&^ I'm going all the way up there if there are no coasters to ride, and just a handful of worth-while flats. I guess at this point, they may be able to survive with what they have for a while with the local market. But I just can't see anyone traveling far to go here. Well I can give you some good advice then if that's your concern. Head on up to Waldameer for Ravine Flyer 2 and Steel Dragon if coasters are all you care about and then why not stop at Conneaut Lake Park if you are already in that part of the country anyway? I'm glad the park is getting fixed up. I just hope it continues to make money and survive. Sadly the amusement park business is tough, especially during these rough times... financially speaking.
  5. ^ I'm sorry, but I doubt there is anything upsetting about lifting the cup in any arena. Go Pens!
  6. Yeah, it was a tough loss for the Penguins. Life goes on, we'll see how game 6 is like in Pittsburgh.
  7. I'm glad you had a good time at both parks. The park looks prettier at night for some reason. That double-decker icecream is pretty much a klondike in a cone, but it is very good. I live north of Pittsburgh and that shot of Pittsburgh from a distance is pretty sweet, but the best way to "enter" the city is from the Fort Pitt Tunnel...
  8. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that fewer and fewer people post as the Stanley Cup finals get closer. I think the Pens have done a fantastic job handling the playoffs; you can't make this stuff up. The series against the Flyers proved that the Pens can handle anyone physically, then the series against the Capitols proved they were able to handle skill on skill match ups, and the Hurricanes series just showed how the Pens can really play when they're at their best. I think the Pens are more than ready to play against Detroit. Go Pens!
  9. It's nice to see the park is open again. I admit it would be strange to go to Conneaut and not ride the Blue Streak though...
  10. I was born and still live in southwestern Pennsylvania. Kennywood, Conneaut Lake Park, and Waldameer are regular stops for me. My guess on what makes the parks more traditional are the people who visit them. A lot of people still go to the parks for school picnics and such. As for the fireworks and New Castle... it's the headquarters for Zambelli fireworks.
  11. ^ What he said. I don't understand where people get the idea that the Penguins are soft. Did anybody else watch the Pens/Flyers series? I think the Penguins are definitely ready for the cup this season.
  12. I still think Pittsburgh could have kept 3 Rivers Stadium as the permanent home for the Steelers while building PNC Park for the Pirates. I know a lot of people are going to be sad when Mellon Arena goes away. Get pictures while you still can. Pens do deserve a new arena though...
  13. ^^ The Phantom sounds a little different coming down that first hill? Also I'm glad people are already taking advantage of there being no trees next to the Racer, those shots are great. As for the Bayern Kurve; hooray they brought back the horn too! I'm happy with what Kennywood did for the season.
  14. ^^ Well actually they're keeping the skid brakes. According to Jeff they're just updating the system, so it will operate automatically by computer instead by the operator. Funny, I always thought it was already being done that way ever since the Thunderbolt accident a decade or so ago, but I guess the Racer never needed it until now. Oh, and I asked Jeff if they were going to bring back the horn as well to the Bayern Kurve, but he didn't know. The horn isn't a huge deal for me, but I always remembered it.
  15. ^ I'm not sure. I have Helena Vanhala as my professor, but I still have 3 more semesters, so who knows. Was it still in Pittsburgh or did they have the Moon campus already?
  16. Hey guys, Recently I had to do a final project for my field production class and I did it on Kennywood Park. The idea of the video was to understand how the park gets itself ready for the summer. Jeff Filicko (Kennywood Public Relations) does all the narrating and the following is included: new ride: Bayern Kurve new braking on Racer, plus tree removal new track on Phantom plus extra content I hope you all like it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jTPRJeXTOg
  17. It was good to see the Penguins not get too upset with the Flyers today because it wouldn't really make anything better for themselves. We should be fine, but I think puck position is key for us when the Flyers are acting like a bunch of pissed off teenagers.
  18. It was nice to see the Pens win their first playoff game of the season. It'd be nice to see them get far again this year; if they can't win the Stanley Cup, that is. I hope they do well tonight.
  19. Ha, I thought this was somehow related to the Pittsburgh Penguins (aka PENS), but now I know it's about PENS! Cool...
  20. I think GCII roller coasters are great in that the designs are pretty incredible, but I don't see how GCII can turn every wooden roller coaster ever made smooth and rideable. Some coasters are doomed from the beginning because of their designs. It's like asking B&M to make an Arrow looper smoother. The Mean Streak is a badly designed roller coaster and "maybe" it was smooth early in its life, but it's too much of a maintenance headache to be that smooth again.
  21. I hope to see the Pirates do some nice player development this year. I would like to see our guys in the minor leagues move up to the show and have the guys who are already in the show to start playing good baseball.
  22. The average here in Pittsburgh is $2.
  23. I used to own "The Night at the Roxbury" soundtrack. [bobs head] "What is love? Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more..." [/bobs head]
  24. ^^^ Ah I see. I passed out (I was sick) during much of third quarter and I was in and out during the fourth, so I must have missed that. That was pretty stupid of him. Oh well, that's why winning is a team effort.
  25. I'm not understanding your reasoning for wanting them to add "Morgan" (does Morgan even exist anymore?) supports. Morgan coasters do use trusswork; just like Arrow. I'm sure the trusswork on the Phantom does need regular maintenance, but I don't think it would be worth taking the old ones out and replacing them with expensive steel pillars. Plus, I don't think the first drop wouldn't look as pretty without them...
