Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread
Dailey Enterprizes replied to DenDen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not everyone is so happy about the park offering season passes at all, especially people who work for the park. I'm just glad that they are only offering a limited about of passes. Like everyone else who loves this park, I just don't want these season passes turning the park into a place parents can drop their kids off every day. It's bad enough all the hoodlums show up after 4pm for Night Riders, now we have to worry about all the kids who are going to be buying season passes. Hopefully the park sticks with the limited number of passes every year if they plan on keeping the season passes, I'd hate to see the park turn into another Six Flags. Since Sandcastle waterpark started offering season passes, the place is continually packed and its impossible to have a nice time there. Hopefully that doesn't happen to Kennywood too! Not to be mean, but that's a pretty selfish way to think of it. I think it's more money for Kennywood because they make a ton of money off their vendors. -

^ I guess "someone" will be scouting the parking lot for the next day or so. Don't forget your camera. -
^^ I was trying to talk about relationships in general and I used a situation to illustrate why getting to know the other person is so important. The internet sucks on this level because you're never seeing the real person until you meet them. For example, I don't talk like the way I type. I'm very reserved. As for my personal life, I wouldn't call it making excuses. It's more like being open minded about being single and not fretting about something that has no meaning. I've probably said this before, but I've never had a girlfriend, so I can't offer much on that regard. I hope that explains it.

^^ Yeah, I learned that was the case a long time ago. I heard that; in addition to asking a girl if they liked coasters, if they liked donkeys... Rhetorical questions aside, you know there's dating and then there are relationships. We all want to date, so that we can find the right person to be with, but we just need to see it as dating at first. Up until recently I saw every girl that I thought was really nice and cute as a potential girlfriend, but like I said 3 pages back that I have to get to know the girl before I can even consider thinking of her as a girlfriend. Unless you're a one-night-stand person which is something that I'm not, it doesn't pay to be intimate upfront. It's also got to be a two-way road for me because I'm not going to put effort into something if the girl isn't interested. So playing hard to get doesn't work with me. Every week for the past month I've been asking this one girl out (that I've previously been out with) and she's had an excuse for every time. Not that I believe or don't believe her, but since we hardly know one another I can't really be expected to keep asking her out. I feel like an idiot enough as it is... Oh yeah, another thing Calypso522, I noticed in your previous post that you said there are no guys your age who like coasters, but the guy typing this is 22. I turn 23 on February 6. I'm not necessarily "hitting" on you, I'm just disproving your statement.

^ You should give the Kennywood workers more credit because they're used to modifying their own rides and I'm sure it will be fine. I'm pretty sure it's whoever they hired to install the track that screwed it up in the first place. I'm wondering about the Sky Rocket too. I'm sure all this snow isn't helping the progress any. Oh well, it's not like we're not used to delays on openings. -
I can't offer too much on relationships because I've never been in one, but I know how to deal with being single. From what I know and what I can understand I think the best way of dealing with single is trying to enjoy it. I've heard this same speech a dozen times by my older brother and sister, but it's the truth. Of course, I would feel unhappy because I'm surrounded by people who are in relationships (my older sister included) and it made me want to be in one because I thought it's the only way to be happy. Over time I came to understand that it's not that I want to be in a relationship to be happy, but that I should be looking for a girl who I can be friends with because there is no sense in being in a relationship and slowly finding out over time that it isn't going to work. Now I know in relationships there are compromises and sacrifices, but I'm 22 (turning 23 in Feb.) and I'm a senior in college. This is really not a great time in my life to be getting into something serious to begin with, so it makes being single all the easier to deal with. However, that's just one side of the coin. I'm human like everyone else and I have my feelings. As a matter of fact I get most of my traits from my mother's side of the family and that includes a rather sensitive way looking at things. Anyway, now I'm just talking to girls with no intention of asking them out. Sounds crazy, but now I'm more open to girls and most of the girls I talk to seem to respond well to it. There's no "awkward" silence or moments where I'm waiting for a response or I gave an ultimatum which won't do any good since she will most likely ignore me. I guess the next question is what if I like the girl? Well I would like to think that at this point the girl and I know each other well enough that if I ask her out for coffee or to a movie that it won't be like someone taking the air out of the room. It's really important to me (and to the girl I'm sure) that things progress naturally as possible because I don't want to be that guy who forces a relationship out of thin air. Well the last thing that I should say is that I'm not anti-relationship. Of course, I want to find the right girl and live happily ever after which is why I spent the last half hour typing this up. The thing of it is that life; especially for me, is a learning experience and I know I have some ahead of me because like I said, I've never had a girlfriend and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that I'm a virgin still. I don't see it as a problem, but I'm not going to base anything around that. I might meet a girl and we might want to have sex, but then again we might not. It just depends and I really don't want to rule anything out. If you guys read all that I apologize, lol... I know it's risky pouring one's heart out on the internet, but I'm more comfortable talking about this with you guys than my parents for some reason.

Robb, to answer your question to those who wanted a monthly newsletter, I think the benefit is that I would sign up to just get it. I've been signed up to ACE for a long time and I haven't been to any events in 4 years. I enjoy getting the magazine. Also, it was stated before that it's sometimes hard to digest all the information on this site. I personally don't spend more than a minute looking through the forums and updates each day. I mean it's great to know that if I wanted to see pictures from a specific park I could search for it in your database, but as for news, etc. it will be at the top of page 1 in the forums on the first day, but by the next week it will be on page 2. I have one more observation, I think it's different to read from a newsletter or magazine than from a computer screen. It seems like I'm just skimming and I'm not actually reading into anything. I love to read books and magazines, by the way.

Well I see this as a great thing for a lot of people on TPR because I'm sure so many would be interested in signing up, but I'm not one of those people. Respectively, of course. 1. Like I said, sounds like a great idea and I'm sure it's going to be successful. 2. Not knowing what the other "goodies" would be, I can't say there is anything else. 3. No, not me personally. 4. I have many reasons to not be a part of this. I guess the main thing is that I'm already a part of ACE. It's not that I don't want to be a part of both TPR and ACE, but I hardly have any time to do ACE events much less TPR ones. Also I've never been on an official TPR trip or anything and since I don't know anyone personally there isn't much of an incentive for me to join up. I also kind of lost interest in going to amusement parks. I like reading about them and looking at the pictures, but it's not a big deal for me to visit them anymore. 5. I had one idea a long time ago that maybe TPR should get its own magazine. I know it's been discussed before and it's been rejected because it would be too expensive and it makes more sense to keep everything tied to the website. However, with this new paid membership you could afford to make a magazine I think. I think it would be cool. Once again, I think it's a great idea, but it's just not for me.

I can't see too many coasters fitting into this category because either I love or hate them forever from the first ride on. However, the only coaster that seems to get consistently worse for me is the Blue Streak at Conneaut Lake Park. I love old parks and all and even considering this coaster has been around for a long time I still find it boring. After the first drop it just skates along with rough transitions and no airtime. Good for Conneaut Lake Park if they get it running again, but I won't be standing in line to get on it when it opens. The sad thing is that I really wanted to like it.

[que classic DE comment] I've always thought the trains from the Phantom's Revenge would make great wooden coaster vehicles. [/que classic DE comment] The trains do look like the PR trains with the restraints and the independent axles. It should be interesting to see how they ride. Wasn't PTC supposed to have their own version of this kind of train for Ravine Flyer II?

Gary Baker Passed Away
Dailey Enterprizes posted a topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I just got this email from ACE. I don't know how many people at TPR knew who Gary was, but he was a terrific human being. I got to meet him a couple of times through ACE events and got to talk to him back when I was on KPConnection. R.I.P. Gary -

It's probably not applicable to compare Yankee Stadium to PNC Park, but I can usually spend less than $30 at a game. The park makes its money off the vendors. It provides one of the best views in baseball too... The most expensive tickets, the Lexus Club (behind home plate) run up to $210. Could be worse, it could cost over $1000 I guess -

A pretty interesting season so far. The games that I've been watching (Penguins vs. Islanders and Flyers vs. Caps) have been pretty tight.
