  1. I am still in a gray area with ghosts, but I am on the verge of believing in them because I do like to think there's life after death. Anyway, I am a fan of this sort of thing. I like to watch "Ghost Adventures" quite a bit and the Linda Vista hospital visit in LA was my favorite because they encountered a spirit who was trapped and the guys felt so bad that they sought to have it freed. Another one was one of their first paranormal discoveries in a an old gold mining town. It was a hotel/brothel and I believe there was a poltergeist in the basement. Right after 2:00 of footage you can see the brick being thrown across the room. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c07MAZbVaCY Oh yeah, I commute from the North HIlls to Moon township for class almost everyday and I pass by the location of what I think is the oldest asylum in the U.S. It was built in 1856 and was known as the Dixmont Hospital for the Insane. Not too long ago a landslide occurred along Route 65 which runs parallel to the hill it was on. The asylum was demolished to make way for a Walmart, but after the landslide the project was canceled. For what it's worth the cemetery is still there and some people think the spirits were the cause of the landslide. Regardless, here's the story. KDKA - Dixon Hospital for the Insane.
  2. Did anyone catch the show tonight? The intro to the show raised my eyebrow a little. Jake Harris was in the water and the Northwestern crew was yelling "He's being sucked under by the prop!" Well this show didn't explain what happened any further. I think all we know is that this accident occurs while Jake Harris and Jake Anderson get back onto their original boats. Luckily; it seems, that Jake Harris had his survival suit on. As for the rest of the show it seemed the shortage of bait caused most of the drama. One thing bothered me while watching this show and the other Deadliest Catch episodes that were leading up to the newest episode tonight. They appear to be using a new intro boat. It always used to be the Wizard... Now it's some computer generated boat that looks god awful compared to the bad ass Wizard they use in the above picture. I don't know what that's all about, but the new intro looks horrible.
  3. ^^^^ I was making the point that a layout has little to do with the experience. Regardless, I think the layout of SoB is good for a coaster of its size. I say replace the existing track with the track El Toro uses and use those trains. Btw, the whole "burn it" thing is getting old. Not too long ago arson use to be a problem for amusement parks. Look at Conneaut Lake Park's old ballroom. Anyway, I just don't like to hear things like that being said repeatedly because you never know.
  4. Okay, so the layout is boring? The Jackrabbit, Apollo's Chariot, Magnum XL 200, Comet, and don't get me started on the shuttle loops... I am having a hard time seeing the justification for tearing down a ride because it has a boring layout. I thought being 200ft in the air made the ride exciting, but that's just me.
  5. I always imagined the Son of Beast being rehabbed with Intamin's engineering. I don't think anyone should give up hope on this because I see a ton of potential out of its existing structure.
  6. I am sure people thought the Steel Phantom; at first, looked out of place, but everyone got used to it real quickly. I know I said this area of the park won't look the same due to the turnpike leaving, but I won't have a final say on how I feel when I see it in person and ride the Sky Rocket. I am also wondering about how the sound of the launch will affect the atmosphere. I think it will make the entrance a little more exciting going into the park and I wonder if it will be amplified in the tunnel.
  7. ^^ The Penguins used to be the Pittsburgh Pirates of the NHL for many many years (we only have 3 Stanley Cups), so I am definitely not sorry that they have another shot at it. Go Pens!
  8. ^I guess so. I for one don't care for Avery, so I think I see your point.
  9. ^^^^ That's an awesome gift regardless of what team you were rooting for. However... you know you would love Crosby if he played for the Sens. There are only a handful of guys that don't play for the Pens that I like and most of them are ex-Penguins. Recchi, Roberts (retired, I know), Conklin, Jagr, and Armstrong.
  10. I've been thinking the entrance out of the tunnel; obviously, won't ever be the same without the turnpike being there and with the Sky Rocket going in it will look completely different. Also the Old Mill (Garfield's Nightmare) is suppose to be re-themed, so that will be different too I guess. I am all for new rides like anyone else, but that area of the park has always been the same, so I am curious as to what it's going to be like with all these changes taking place. The construction pictures don't really show what that area looks like now and it wouldn't matter because the mounds of dirt, concrete, etc. will be gone. All I am saying is regardless of whether the turnpike comes back or not that area won't be the same.
  11. ^Ditto! The last couple of wins vs the Reds have been walk-offs, so I am more than happy with our offense. Our pitching on the other hand... Donnelly looks good though.
  12. I think I speak for many DC fans when I say that I like the show because it isn't fake (for the most part atleast). This isn't some MTV bullcrap and I have to respect the life of these fishermen. I got to admit not all shows that are like this are interesting. I didn't really care for the whale show on Animal Planet or Swords. I am also a film student, so I find the production interesting as well. I am a fan of Mike Rowe too and his other show; Dirty Jobs, is another good one. He also does the Ford commercials which is awesome. The only other shows that I'll watch repeately are Mythbusters, Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations, and Man vs Food.
  13. Dang it Bobby! I had a nice serious topic going and then Robb had to go make it funny....
  14. ^ The transfer track looks like the Phantom's transfer track basically, so I don't see the big deal. I am glad that they continue to press on with the construction. We have been lucking out with the weather it seems, but it doesn't make a difference to me if it gets done for opening day or not. Good for the park if it does, but I am not planning on going until June or August at the latest.
  15. I didn't really see a Deadliest Catch or a TV thread anywhere. So this is my favorite TV show. I have some of the seasons on DVD and the new season started just yesterday. What do you guys think of it? I don't understand Captain Jonathan's reasoning for going after Captain Keith. It just sounds like "he said he said" and nothing else. I found the trading of Jake Harris and Jake Anderson to be the most interesting thing to happen in that episode. In a way I always wondered what would happen if those two switched boats and now it's finally happened. I don't really see anything bad coming out of it, but who knows right? I know about Phil passing away this year and I am a fan of his so it is saddening for me to watch this season and the rest of the seasons for that matter. I also found it ironic that the rescue boat that saved that crew from that sinking ship; Carly Renee, was named the Guardian. Not too long ago I watched that Coast Guard based movie "The Guardian." I am glad nobody was lost to that ship sinking.
  16. ^The one thing the Pens have learned how to do is enjoy the trophies and recognition that they do get. The season before last season they wouldn't touch the Wales trophy, but they lost the Stanley Cup finals anyway. Last season they held up the Wales trophy and took pictures with it and everything. We all know the end of the Stanley Cup finals that season.
  17. What a night I am having. First I was watching "The Island" (mainly because Scarlett Johansson is in it) and now I see this school that's basically depriving its students of any human rights other than breathing (though you can't open a window). The dean must be hitler and the president must be my eighth grade math teacher who gave everyone she saw a detention (including me which was the only detention that I have ever gotten) out of spite... the world sucks sometimes doesn't it?
  18. I've had Facebook since my freshman year in college... until now. For me, Facebook has taken a turn for the worse and I just had to deactivate my account. Besides the only people that I did talk to on a regular basis on there were my family and I can just text them, so it seemed pointless to keep it. One more thing, I started to get friend requests from Facebook "whores" as I like to call them. They're basically the same as Myspace whores. Edit: Oh yeah, another reason is that I kept getting malware from Facebook. Four times now I had to run the anti-malware software.
  19. ^^ I am definitely not seeing what you saying about the banks. If you are referring to the length (or quantity) of the turns themselves then maybe I can see what you're saying, but the train is moving so fast that it's only in those turns for a short time anyway.
  20. I am pretty certain they used SFMM in "Encino Man" and they called it Mega Mountain. In fact here's the actual quote...
  21. Nice TR. I remember hearing Adventureland the movie couldn't be filmed there because it was nothing like it was in the 80s (from Greg Mottola's perspective atleast). Maybe that should be taken as a compliment considering the movie saw working at Adventureland as the worst job ever, haha...
  22. ^^^^That's a very long train. I'm having a hard time picturing an 8 car train negotiating those transitions. Sounds wicked!
  23. The S turns look brutal. The intensity reminds me of Ravine Flyer II because I had a hard time keeping my composure during the commercial shoot. Atleast the MF has capacity over this ride though. The trains seem to be only 5 cars in length and I'm guessing only 2 will be operating normally.
  24. ^^ On the website there's a press release saying this. http://www.kennywood.com/docs/SkyRocketRelease.pdf You can just make it out in this rendering too.
  25. Back when I used to film my park trips I went by myself most of the time. As a videographer I felt it was most comfortable to be myself because I didn't have to feel bad holding someone back from wanting to ride or whatever. However, now I have a problem with going by myself because without my camera I just feel so alone. Even at Kennywood it gets lonely for me. I'm pretty self conscious to begin with, so I need someone with me now because I feel it's kind of lame to be at an amusement park by myself.
