  1. I don't think you get how this all works. Parque merely consolidated all the Kennywood assets. The management and philosophy are not changing. I don't think that any responsible owner, whether it be Parque or the Henningers, are going to "play with" money. I don't think you get what I'm saying. I know perfectly well "how this works." Exactly, they consolidated Kennywood's assets, which means Parque merged them with their own. I realize that it's going to be the same management and philosophy as it always was, but down the line, years from now, when Kennywood has some sort of upgrade for the park planned, they can possibly do better than originally planned, because they now have someone backing them financially, instead of just using revenue from seasons past. I'm not saying Kennywood is going to add a $25 Million B&M or Intamin within the next 5 years, just that they will be more financially stable, and bigger, more expensive upgrades than originally planned are not out of the question now. Kennywood probably has at least a 10 year plan, if not more. I don't expect to see these "bigger" upgrades until maybe 20 years down the line at the earliest.
  2. ^ Going to Cedar Point isn't a "waste" of a day. Don't stoop to his level by bashing Cedar Point in the same way he bashed Kennywood. There are people out there (like me) who thoroughly enjoy BOTH parks, believe it or not. Shocking, I know. In my opinion, food is food. I don't go to parks to sit down for two hours eating five-star food. If I wanted great food, I'd go to a fine restaurant. I always end up getting the same thing anyway at parks, chicken fingers and fries with a soft drink. I go to parks to enjoy myself and have fun, something that I can easily accomplish at both Cedar Point and Kennywood. Lastly, for the record, a combo meal in Chik-Fil-A (with a soft drink) at Cedar Point cost me roughly $11; chicken fingers, fries, and a bottled Code Red was roughly $10.50 in the cafeteria at Kennywood. Their prices are about the same. I can only imagine what "lunch, dinner, and dessert" would cost, probably upwards of $25+.
  3. Awesome pictures! I really enjoyed reading this Photo TR.
  4. Conceptual Design: Link to article. I, personally think it is great that new means of transportation that cut down on pollution and costs are being developed and implemented. Would this count as a credit? Credit for the info goes to Screamscape.
  5. While Kennywood may be doing this to attract more locals some of us in Cleveland are planning to buy season passes. We come in from Cleveland where Kennywood tickets are sold for $22.00 at Discount Drug Marts. The Kennywood tickets are selling very well. But even at those low prices the season pass will pay off for us. Also "older" folks can buy a funday ticket for $15.00 at the gate now. Kennywood has a great park at really low prices. The road work is not too bad, at least coming in from the west. It adds about 10-15 minutes to our drive. Exactly, all those "older folks" have to do is go to their local Giant Eagle and a ticket can be purchased for very cheap, I think mine was around $19 or so, give or take a few dollars, I can't remember exactly. Yeah, that's what I have been saying. Instead of constantly basing their yearly upgrades on revenue, they now have a huge corporation's money to "play with," if you will.

  7. That's your opinion, I, along with many other people, thought it was a great ride, better than any other dark ride at Kennywood. That was under old ownership, where everything was based off revenue. Being owned by a giant corporation like Parque makes multi-million dollar upgrades and investments not out of the question anymore.
  8. That is an old article. There is no date, but it is at least before May 3rd because of the statement, "Kennywood Park is set to open for the season on May 3." Take a gander at these two articles: http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/business/s_567669.html http://www.bizjournals.com/pittsburgh/stories/2008/05/19/daily20.html
  9. Yeah, I see now. Sorry Bolliger&Mabillard, I wasn't trying to be rude or anything, I just simply didn't get what you were trying to say. Thanks gk for clearing that up!
  10. I completely agree. It's like coaster count with debatable credits, you (or the park) decide if it's an inversion or not. I'm just happy that these companies are creating these cool and unique elements. Us debating is probably a sign that they are doing a good job on doing so!
  11. As stated, MF is a Giga coaster, not a Hyper, but even if it was, that title would then go to Morgan for SD2K at 318'. I'm pretty sure this thread is called B&M Vs. Intamin not B&M Vs. Intamin Vs. Every other coaster manufacture. The point being he's comparing B&M to Intamin as it is what this whole thread is about. I realize that. I was just pointing out that he said Intamin had the tallest hyper at the time it was built, which, in my opinion is a strange statement, one in which I don't understand his point. And Magnum, Desperado, and Pepsi Max all opened before Millennium Force, and were all the tallest at the time of their opening...I don't get your point.
  12. Looks really awesome! Is it possible that we could get a download?
  13. As stated, MF is a Giga coaster, not a Hyper, but even if it was, that title would then go to Morgan for SD2K at 318'. As stated previously in this thread, Stengel doesn't design for B&M anymore, but still designs for Intamin.
  14. I was there for the first time in June, here's my list: 1) Nitro 2) El Toro (VERY close second) 3) Medusa 4) Kingda Ka 5) Superman 6) Batman 7) GASM 8) Dark Knight 9) Skull Mountain 10) Rolling Thunder 11) Runaway Mine Train
  15. For me it's: Viper (SFMM) Medusa (SFGAdv) Scream (SFMM) Great American Scream Machine (SFGAdv) Hydra: The Revenge (Dorney Park) All of them have 7 inversions.
  16. A little under $4 here. I just got back from Belize, and they are paying over $11 a gallon.
  17. Wouldn't that title go to Arrow for rides like Magnum, Pepsi Max, and Desperado?
  18. Awesome! I've always wanted them to do this because I'd like to go a few times a year, but I hate the thought of paying $30+ dollars every visit. It's nice, too now that I will just be able to swing by in the evening for an hour or two.
  19. It's good to hear that this was exaggerated, I was hoping that it didn't really take them that long. Parks these days do need more benches, though. Countless times I, or the people I am with, want to sit down, but we have to settle for a wall or the ground because all the benches are full and/or taken. Regardless, however, it's still a shame that this occurred, and that children had to witness this. Some people need to grow up these days.
  20. At least the Mantis crew cares about riders being in the proper position, unlike the Riddler's Revenge crew (at least when I was there in the summer of 2006 they didn't, hopefully it has changed by now).
  21. I agree that Mantis in the front is an awesome ride. Everywhere else it's below average.
  22. This happened Saturday August 9th. I hadn't heard about this anywhere else until I went to www.thepointol.com and saw it at the top of the page. Apparently a man was on a bench, saving it for his family, when a woman of a different race came up and wanted to sit down. He refused to let her sit, and it escalated from there. Racial slurs were used and it broke out into a fight that involved over 30 people. Witnesses claim that the security was horrible, and that it took over a half an hour for them to respond. I can't find any articles on it, but it was discussed for over two hours on the radio station, WTAM 1100. Here is the link to where you can listen to it. It's really a shame that this happened, especially in front of children. Cedar Point, or any park for that matter, should be a place to go to have fun, relax, and enjoy one's self for the day, not a place of dispute and controversy. UPDATE: Apparently the story was exaggerated a bit, according to this article.
  23. I agree, but this is still relatively huge, and you know that something big has to be brewing for Cedar Point. Heaven forbid the "red headed child" steals some of the thunder of "Cedar Fair's baby," or the "favorite child."
  24. I have a fantasy football draft on Saturday. The 2008 coaster season is over for me, I won't be riding anything until May of 2009.
  25. If you're only making minimum wage, perhaps spending it on Live isn't the best place to be putting your money. You could easily come up with that money by looking in your couch or spare change jar, and wouldn't even make a dent in your funds. Xbox Live is practically free, yet has all the great qualities and features of a service that costs a lot of money.
