  1. If they like the ride as much as they say they did the turnstile numbers would reflect that and the ride probably wouldn't be going anywhere.
  2. This is a tough one, Kings Island is a great park but there's not much there you can't find anywhere else. I consider Diamondback to be a very good B&M hyper but if you're going to ride Fury on the same trip that lessens the appeal a bit, Banshee is very good but I'd put it below some of the larger older inverts like Afterburn, Montu, Alpengeist and Raptor, Bat is great but it's a clone... same for Firehawk (and a lot of people tend to hate these though I like them a lot) and Flight of Fear. Delerium and Drop Tower are very good too but they're not totally unique. The park is very good but the Beast is the only thing that's totally unique about it. Riding the Beast during the day is fun, but it's not going to crack many top 10 or even top 20 lists. I feel like the initial reaction would be disappointment. The thing that's holding me back though is that (out of about 250 coasters), I've never had a more amazing ride on any coaster, anywhere, ever than our rides on back to back nights in the front seat of the Beast last year. I really don't even have words to describe how insane a Beast night ride can be. So that's the dilema... the park for the most part is good but not incredibly unique, the Beast is a good ride but not amazing for most of the day but a night ride on it (especially in the front) is an unforgettable experience.
  3. Absolutely go for 2 days. No question... that way if one day is windy, rainy or a ride is down you don't miss out, plus you get 2 days at the park which is always better than one.
  4. Unfortunately I have not yet had a chance to visit this park but it seems like they were a bit light on flats so these seem to be great additions.
  5. They tried to open a few Wild Wind coasters in the U.S. but they were all relocated as none of them ever opened thanks to the ridiculous amount of G forces they pulled. They were fully constructed at Rye Playland, Keansburg and Motor World in Virginia beach before never opening, being disassembled and moved out of the country.
  6. We made a really spontaneous trip to the park yesterday and to the surprise of absolutely nobody we had an absolute blast. When I say it was spontaneous, I mean it. We had spent 3 days at Cedar Point and were on our way home and saw a Knoebels billboard. We both kind of looked at eachother, then realized we'd have about 4 hours before they closed and decided to get off the highway and go. Our first stop was Impulse and we waited about 30 minutes before we got ourselves a front seat ride. Operations were very fast despite the low capacity but this is Knoebels we're talking about here so that goes without saying. The ride is an absolutely perfect fit for the park, it's a ton of fun, it's not too big but it still looks very imposing given the location. People really enjoyed riding it and watching it and it makes a great visual statement on the way in. I feel a lot like I did when they added Stratosfear, they didn't need the ride at all but they somehow managed to add ANOTHER awesome ride and at this point it almost feels like they're just showing off. Impulse is just more icing on the Knoebels cake. lol We were limited on time so we had to skip some great rides (Like Flying Turns, Skyway, Kozmotron, Haunted Mansion, Black Diamond, Fandango and Stratosfear), but we managed to get on most of our favorites. We ended up getting one ride on Scooters (I love these), Twister (running as awesome as ever) and Paratrooper and two rides on the Flume (which is one of my favorite flumes and we took 2 rides because it's never open at PPP when we usually visit), Flyers (what a breath of fresh air after the crappy Lake Erie Eagles) and of course Phoenix which was running absolutely insane like it always does. We snuck some Pierogies in there too and on the way out I attempted to get a slice of Ceasari's but sadly they were closed by the time I got there. I had to "settle" for a delicious ice cream waffle sandwich... poor me. lol All in all we spent about 3 hours at Knoebels and it just re-affirmed the fact that this is probably our favorite park anywhere. We learned last year that visiting another park right after spending 3 days at Cedar Point is usually a let down but that doesn't apply to Knoebels (or the Phoenix) at all. We can't wait for Phun Phest! Keep being awesome Knoebels.
  7. Park in the main lot, then walk. Just follow the road, they have a walking area on the right near Blue Streak. Yes, it opens for early entry. Also, the weather looks pretty good for the 29th and 30th now with maybe just a passing storm on the 30th. See what I mean about the forecast? lol
  8. I guess because I don't ever ride anywhere other than the front and stay off of the seat back. When you do that the ride is incredibly smooth (like smoother than Blue Streak smooth though I don't consider Blue Streak rough... I love Blue Streak). Maybe saying "I don't understand the hate" was the wrong way to phrase it, but personally I like the ride even though it is sort of a stupid way to ride a coaster.
  9. We spent all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday and had an awesome time as always. I'll spare everyone the long trip report and just go with a few highlights... - It was awesome meeting boldikus and the crew, you guys were a blast. - Rougarou was awesome! I had moderate expectations since the last part of Mantis just kind of meandered around without doing much of anything. I figured the ride would be a fun, forceless addition to the park and I would have been thrilled since that's a huge step up from Mantis but I actually have a few favorite floorless coaster. Without the trim on the first drop this ride absolutely hauls through the course. The dive loop and incline loop are taken at ridiculous speeds and the turn before the hill into the mid course is almost Maverick like. I can't believe they turned a piece of garbage like Mantis into this awesome, awesome (and very smooth) coaster. Great job Cedar Point!!!! - I know I already said this, but "smartestcoasterkidever!" is my hero. I never liked Magnum... ever. But when we sat near the back of the train in a non wheel seat and tightened the belt as much as possible the ride was really, really enjoyable because the belt prevented the usual thigh crushing. Then we tried the same trick in the ejector seat and it still worked and provided an awesome ride full of ridiculous ejector air. It took over 10 years but Magnum finally made me a believer. - Hi haters! How is everyone doing on this fine morning? Okay so get ready for this... Mean Streak provided it's usual butter smooth, fun ride like it ALWAYS DOES every time we ride it. Do you have to sit in the front seat and lean forward? Absolutely. Is this a stupid way to ride a coaster? Yes. But does it work? Absolutely. I won't be sad if they RMC this ride and I won't deny that the ride doesn't do much of anything but taking a ride through this awesome structure is a lot of fun and I'll never understand the hatred for this ride. I know many people feel like you shouldn't have to know how to ride a coaster to enjoy it and that's a fair point but I don't mind. I like Mean Streak. - Maverick's new restraints are great but the old ones never bothered me either. Kudos to Cedar Point for doing something to improve the ride experience. There aren't enough words to describe how awesome Maverick is. - Operations were very good across the board, Cedar Point always has great employees. - Their coaster lineup is really second to none. Gatekeeper, Wicked Twister, Magnum, Rougarou and Dragster are all top level rides and Raptor, Maverick and Millennium Force are flat out amazing. There's still nothing like a front seat night ride on Millennium Force. The only sub-par coaster in the bunch is Corkscrew but it's still not THAT bad and I love the way it looks over the midway. Overall we had a great time at Cedar Point. With the great location, great rides and great staff this is absolutely one of our favorite parks to visit.
  10. This post is from January but I'm replying to it now because I finally tried it yesterday. I'm still in disbelief. I always wanted to like this ride but never could because of how painful it is. I never understood why so many people spoke so highly of it because I could never enjoy it with the ridiculous thigh crushing lap bars but for the first time in at least 50 rides of me trying to like Magnum over the years I had an awesome ride on it! Everyone needs to try this, it might be the single greatest piece of advice I've ever seen on this site. Magnum went from my least favorite hyper to one of my favorites immediately.
  11. You have no idea how happy this post is making me right now. Same (btw I saw Tony tweeted that they were "working on it" which I thought was promising since they hadn't acknowledged Wicked Twister's downtime at all on social media and I just now realized he was responding to YOUR tweet lol)
  12. THIS! Wooden Warrior is awesome and it won't cost you much extra time or much money.
  13. Sounds like Magic Mountain is up to it's old tricks. lol The new area looks great though (even though Scream still has a parking lot under it). I can't wait to try out the new coaster one day.
  14. If Goliath's new train is really that much smoother then this park has an amazing 1,2,3 punch with Bizarro, Goliath and Wicked Cyclone. Throw in Batman, Thunderbolt and Pandemonium and that's a serious lineup of great coasters!
  15. The 29th and 30th??? LOL They have no idea what the weather will be like 9 and 10 days from now. I promise the forecast will change about 15 times between now and then. Do yourself a favor and stop checking the weather until about 2 days before you're planning to visit, all it will do is stress you out.
  16. Top Thrill Dragster will close, Raptor will probably close... all or none of the other rides will close with no regard to the weather policy on the website, how hard it's raining, what the rain policy was the previous day, what the rain policy was 5 minutes prior or anything that might be considered consistent or logical. One day they could run everything but Dragster in the rain, the next day they could close everything in even less rain than they had when everything was open. The inconsistency is what makes their rain policy so terrible. With this being said though what day are you planning on going? If it's more than a few days out the forecast will probably change anyway so it's not worth worrying about.
  17. Yeah it looks like there was a partial power outage. It can't be totally out as Webcam 2 is working and some kids rides seem like they're open but it sounds like most of the park is out.
  18. Yeah especially because the B&M capital would have a better Intamin than any of the Intamin's at the Intamin capital. Ole'
  19. Allow me to speculate as to why Strange, but it's open now so I'm glad they got it fixed. It's probably not approved by the state yet as it has not yet opened for the season. ... say no more. It's Dragster, what did you expect? lol It's new, it has all news sensors and a new mechanism so that's to be expected. Staffing, yesterday was a weekend. Today is a weekday before the start of summer. It drizzled for a bit. I'm going to go with that, and no it doesn't actually have to be raining for Cedar Point to randomly close things... it just has to kind of sort of maybe look like it might rain or someone might have said the word "rain" too loudly. Be careful what you seek, you might find it... it's probably down for winds. Sky Ride is down on webcams. Once it gets over 15 MPH with gusts around 20 Cedar Point's operations team crawls into the fetal position and panics because when building a brand new ride a few years ago they couldn't have possibly anticipated mild winds when building a ride on the beach on a peninsula in one of the largest lakes in America.
  20. Absolutely! Fury chews through the line really fast... Nighthawk on the other hand turns a short line into a 90 minute wait constantly. PS: Save time for Afterburn re-rides too... just throwing that out there.
  21. The bugs are legendary at Cedar Point. I remember last year they covered the car to the point where you couldn't even tell what color the roof was supposed to be. lol It's weird though, they don't really bother you much on the midways. They stay up in the lights and you only notice them when you're riding the coasters at night and it feels like you're riding coasters in the rain. It sounds gross but it's not as bad as it sounds. By the way, weather permitting (looks good now but we never pull the trigger on this park until last minute because of their insane rain and wind policies) we're going this weekend too. Maybe we'll run into eachother.
