Because when I think "Destination Waterpark" I think Soak City at Cedar Point. -
Knoebels Discussion Thread
coasterbill replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Woah wait... we're gushing over Knoebels again? I want in on this. Every time I ride Downdraft (which is a lot) it just makes me wonder why every park in America doesn't have one of these. It's a ton of fun. -
The number of manufacturers I pull out of thin air will be a good indicator of how much I'm trying to kill time at work today. Okay here goes... I'm leaving out any manufacturer where I haven't ridden at least 2 types of products they offer which includes RMC. Arrow: Log Flumes (honorable mention to suspended coasters) Bisch-Rocco: Flyers B&M: Inverts (My favorite 2 B&M coasters are Fury and Kumba but Inverts are the most consistently great) Chance: Zipper! Dinn: I don't count Wild One or the Beast, so I'm going with Mean Streak. Hi haters! Eyerly: Roll O Plane Frank Hrubetz & Company: Paratrooper (these guys made them, Round Ups, Tip Tops and a few others). Funtime: Sky Screamer Gerstlauer: Euro Fighters, especially of the mysterious and mine-y variety Hopkins: Log Flume Huss: Giant Frisbee Intamin: Basically everything but I guess Giga's. Honorable mention to wood coasters and 1st gen freefalls. Larson: Drop Towers Mack: Log Flume Mondial: Windseeker Morgan: Hypers Premier: Spaghetti Bowls Schwarzkopf: Everything! S&S: Drop Towers... Hypersonic was awful Togo: lol... standups I guess even though I hate them Vekoma: Giant Inverted Boomerang (when running Vekoma trains) Honorable mention to the Mad House (Houdini). Zamperla: Frisbee And last but certainty not least (they made Space Spiral so I can count them... get your drink ready everyone...) Von Roll: Sky Rides

I'll assume you're talking about TPR's own JRice92. Whatever they pay that guy it's not enough. Yes... Yes they do. Black and yellow, you know what it is. -
Don't even say that... don't get my hopes up that they'll do the one ridiculously obvious and easy thing that could make this piece of crap a great ride. They'd much rather waste a ton of time and money screwing around with these Premier trains. I'm not saying the old trains weren't a maintenance nightmare (not that I'm an expert), but from the outside looking in these seem to be worse between the constant downtime, delays and the fact that they were removing seats over the course of the season which I've never seen before (not roping seats off... like removing them, they were totally gone).

I wonder if the lack of a splash has anything to do with the ridiculous amount of wind they get at the park. Maverick frequently has to shut off the cannons since they blast everyone on the midway on windy days. With a splashdown section like this there wouldn't be anything they could do (though knowing them the ride may close in high winds anyway). -

Alpengeist and Raptor are both incredibly smooth in every seat. People are so damn spoiled, I won't even bring up a really horrible coaster like a Golden Horse SLC, just go ride any Arrow mega looper and then come back and see how rough Alpengeist and Raptor are. I would say something like "If you can't handle Raptor go ride a ridiculously forceless coaster like Gatekeeper" but according to this thread Gatekeeper has painful death vests so I guess go ride Midway Carousel or something (Cedar Downs is probably a little too much for you). And the thing that kills me is in the next breath people will complain that B&M's are forceless but any time a roller coaster does something roller coasters are supposed to do like move your head around a little bit they're too rough. Which is it? lol PS: I love Gatekeeper thanks to it's great first drop and cool elements but it's forceless as hell. I'm not bashing it. PSS: DonkeysWaffles I'm not directing this at you at all, just the people you seem to be directing the post at that think Alpengeist is rough. -

Wait they're running one train on Volcano during the summer season? Holy crap we all need to start a Plinko / Fastlane savings account. -

I never had an issue with the old restraints but the new ones are fine too. I don't know what anyone's talking about with the "locking vests" but the only coasters I've ridden with these restraints are Gatekeeper after it was fixed, Banshee and Wild Eagle. I've never encountered a rough B&M or an uncomfortable B&M in my life with the exception of all of their standups minus the Carowinds Vortex which I enjoy. Some B&M's throw your head around once or twice but it's really not painful... it's kind of fun. If it were relentless headbanging or violent headbanging it would bother me but one or 2 little, non painful transitions can be fun. You are on a roller coaster after all. <3 I have noticed by the way that the turn is much less abrupt on the right side of the train. For anyone who wants to have fun though, the front left seat is waiting for you. -
Great report, it's nice to see a gold old fashioned text trip report. Like you I don't bother taking a ton of pictures at parks either... I'd rather just relax and enjoy my day. I actually agree with your review on everything (besides the Racer which I had a good experience on). I think Backlot Stunt Coaster is ridiculously underrated and will never understand how anyone thinks Flight of Fear or Firehawk are rough. The only rough coaster in the park is Vortex and it's a colossal piece of crap. Too bad you didn't get a Beast night ride though, if you do, ignore the wheel seat thing and just sit in the front anyway. I can't wait to read more...

Sometimes I swear I must be riding different rides than everyone else... there's officially no coaster in existence that someone doesn't find rough. When I think B&M, the last thing I think of is a reputation for headbanging, even on most older rides. -

Since I don't live in Elysburg, PA I guess it's not... but I still like my home parks quite a bit. -

It really is, I love the way it yanks you down the drop if you sit in the very back row. -

Bizarro used to be amazing in every seat but now it's a front seat ride. It's still very good in every seat, but it's not amazing unless you sit up front. Also, I still say Thunderbolt at SFNE is one of the smoothest classic wood coasters ever. I'll never understand why so many people say it's rough. Good for you for taking the time out to ride it though even with such a short amount of time to spend at the park.
