SeaWorld San Antonio has sent us a press release announcing the addition of a new water flume coaster, the first of its kind to feature a launch along with the steepest drop on a flume attraction. The combination of these and more features make Catapult Falls a thrilling new addition for the park which will launch in 2023. SeaWorld San Antonio today announced the construction of a NEW water flume coaster, Catapult Falls, coming in 2023. The first-of-its-kind ride combines the thrill of a launched roller coaster, the excitement of a vertical lift elevator that lifts riders above the theme park, and a water flume ride with the steepest drop, to produce multiple rushes of adrenaline as well as moments of exciting splashes to cool guests down. “Catapult Falls will be the perfect addition to our already fantastic line up of family rides,” said Byron Surrett, SeaWorld San Antonio President. “Not only will it provide thrills for those wanting the exhilaration of a coaster-type ride, but being a water ride, it will give guests one more way to cool down in the hot Texas temperatures. It will be the perfect family adventure ride.” World’s First Launched Flume Coaster and Steepest Drop in a Flume Attraction Guests will experience the world’s first launched flume coaster! Eleven boats, each with eight riders, will catapult through the launch at speeds of 30 feet per second, allowing riders to feel the rush of a coaster while experiencing the rocking and swaying of riding on a track of water. Once at the peak of the ride, guests will experience the world’s steepest drop in a flume attraction! Angled at a staggering 53 degrees, the chute plummets riders into a watery splashdown at over 37 miles per hour. The duration of this one-of-a-kind attraction is in excess of five minutes, making for a wonderful family adventure. North America’s Only Vertical Lift Flume Coaster After winding through a series of twists and turns, Catapult Falls uses a state-of-the-art elevator, the only one on the continent in an attraction of this kind, to lift guests up seven feet per second to reach a height of over 55 feet. The breathtaking views don’t last long as the ride prepares guests for the ultimate plunge! Catapult Falls makes its debut in 2023 joining an impressive collection of thrill rides including the Great White, a floorless inverted coaster; the Steel Eel, a hyper-coaster that takes guest through a series of gravity defying camelbacks; Texas Stingray, the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster in Texas; Wave Breaker: the Rescue Coaster, where guests board jet ski-like cars and join SeaWorld’s Rescue Team to help an animal in need; and Tidal Surge, the world’s tallest and fastest ride of its kind. Edit: Figured I would just make one thread for all of my 2022 Halloween Reports. Welcome! Here you will find my TRs from my trips to some Cedar Fair parks for their Halloween Events in 2022. Click the links to jump to each report. Please enjoy! -Dorney Park (Friday, September 16th) -Kings Dominion (Saturday and Sunday, September 24th and 25th) (Bonus 10/16! & Bonus 10/30!) -Kings Island (Friday and Saturday, October 14th and 15th) -Cedar Point (Friday and Saturday, October 28th and 29th) - Coming soon! ************************************************************************************** (Disclaimer: The photo quality will vary greatly in this post, owing to the fact that I brought an actual camera on the second day.) Coming off my somewhat disappointing and samey Haunt trip to Dorney Park two weeks prior, I made my way down to Doswell, Virginia for the opening weekend of... Kings Dominion Haunt 2022: Day 1 I had worked overnight shift Friday into Saturday, went home, got about 4 hours of sleep, and then it was on the road to Doswell. Google maps always estimates this drive as just over 3 hours, but in typical MD and VA traffic fashion, the trip took closer to 5. Checked in to my hotel (Best Western in Woodford, a much nicer alternative to any hotels that are closer to the north of the park), and made the 30 minute drive the rest of the way to the park. First things first: The Fright Lane situation. Gone is the lanyard with the punch card, as well as the separate Fast and Fright Lane passes if you're purchasing it for the day. It's now just a wristband, which means unlimited trips through each of the mazes. Unfortunately, unlike Dorney Park, holders of the All-Season Fast Lane perk on their season pass do not automatically get Fright Lane here; it is available as a $55 addition if you have that add-on. This is still cheaper than the Fright/Fast Lane that is sold on a daily basis, and is comparable to previous years' "Fright Lane only" passes, and I bought it for the first night. Amusingly, there was a lot of confusion at both the redemption booth and the entries for each of the mazes as to what color wristband included Fright Lane, so someone may have theoretically been able to bypass the standard maze queue with only the regular Fast Lane+ band on a few occasions. It felt good to be back at my "home" park! My summer was very busy, and didn't afford me any opportunities to visit since March. Yes, you'll see they have the same nutty bag policy as Dorney, but at least here they just do a visual estimation and not the "wooden-box-test" as that park. One is greeted with Haunt decorations as soon as you enter. The main International Street Bandstand stage, and the crowd waiting for the Haunt opening show. I would take this in tomorrow. My first stop was No Vacancy: Condemned, a somewhat tired theme of a haunted hotel. All in all, it was pretty good...it seemed like there were more decorations than in the past years, though at points it was far too dark to truly take them in. This maze had a good amount of actors. Of course, the giant skull on the waterfall is there. Log flume not running during Haunt. I really liked this skeleton-horse drawn pumpkin carriage; I don't recall this from previous years, but according to @cfc's report from last year, it was at the park. Time for the biggest let down of the trip: Mac Bowl has become Taco Shack. As a huge fan of mac & cheese, especially build-your-own types, this was super disappointing. Hopefully it's only temporary. I then took a walk through Trick or Treat, which I was very very impressed by. Awesome artistry here, and a decent number of actors with some of them up at the main stage for the opening act. The Riff Raff band was back... ...sort of. This year, it had all new musicians (from what I could tell) from last year, and they just weren't quite as good, especially the vocalist. Pretty much the same set list. Continuing on my maze-run, I then took a stroll through Blood on the Bayou, which was pretty well done. I don't recall if they had the slaughterhouse elements in previous years. No barely-there Mardi Gras experience at this one. I then made my way down through the rest of Candy Apple Grove, and into Jungle X-pedition, for my first ride of the year on Avalanche Reptilian. I love all the little details they added to the station, transfer track area, and exit tunnel. How was it? Awesome, of course. I'm so glad they saved this classic, last-of-its-kind-in-the-US, ride. Four-train wait for front row. I took the stroll back up to the front of the park, and partook in Cornstalkers. You all know my thoughts on corn-maze haunts, and this one does not change that opinion. I swear this has been here for 15 years with no changes. I'll sum it up as I did in my notes: Meh. Now it was time for what I was expecting to be another great KD Haunt show, Queen's Ball. I ranted and raved about last year's major show at length in my report from then. This show, for what it was, was kinda disappointing - dancers only to a backing track. I was told by one of the ushers that the full show (including acrobats, musicians, and singers, all competing for the Queen character's praises) would be debuting the following weekend, so I'll reserve judgement until I can get back to the park to experience it in full. Meanwhile, here's some photos and a brief video of the dancing. I will say that the lone male dancer was super cute, but the ladies had a tad too much non-halloweeny makeup on. VID_20220924_203049645.mp4 At this time in my notes videos, I made a comment about smoking zones. So, as with all CF parks, the only designated smoking areas are outside the park. Well, for Haunt, with the "no-reentry" rule in affect, the other parks moved the smoking zone to just inside the main gate. Kings Dominion? Nope, you're screwed. Several of the security guards I spoke with agreed that it was not fair, and basically told me "just don't do it in front of me," so that was nice. I then took a walk through 21, the new Haunt maze for this year, named to commemorate the 21st year of Halloween Haunt. This maze has a bunch of different themes, that I won't spoil for you, but one thing did stand out: There's a "broken mirror" room and an actor in a suit made up entirely of mirror fragments. I thought that was awesome. Made my way back down towards I305, but not before stopping to take in the Convergence show, which is your typical drummers over a backing EDM track type of show. Okay I guess. Am I the only one who misses the original "blood drums" show where they used barrels instead of a proper drumset? VID_20220924_205759610.mp4 At I305, I had a three-train-wait for row 2 (the front line was just nuts and backed all the way to the dividing point in the non-FL queue). Great as always; I really forgot how incredible this is at night. Notably this three-train-wait took 20 minutes; they were running both trains but the dispatching was just extremely slow. Also, how have they not replaced the "Gentlemen, start your engines!" recording yet? Seriously, it's 2022...quit making the operator add the "Ladies and..." before the recording. After that, it was time to head through the Cleaver Brothers Carnival scare zone, always one of my favorites. The Big Top Band show was back, along with the super-fun Burnette the Barker host character.... ...as was the fortune teller. Mind you, I give zero stock to tarot or any other similar superstitious stuff, but it's always fun. The first reading tonight didn't really apply, but the second one I got the following night was actually kinda on point. It's time to talk about their Ferris wheel, Americana. How they let the lighting package get this bad is beyond me (yes, there are lights installed the full length of every spoke). I'll let the following video speak for itself. VID_20220924_212944200.mp4 I bought myself a $16 jack-and-coke and took in most of the set for Riff Raff, and yeah as I mentioned earlier the vocalist just isn't at the same level as last year's. The rest of the musicians talent was on-point, however. Now that it was sufficiently dark, I took a stroll through Grimm Woods, which was a little disappointing compared to last year. Don't get me wrong, it's still incredible and the best maze here. It's the same three fairy tales as last year (but in a different order), the oven prop in the Hansel and Gretel section was not lit up or in use, the overall experience was darker, and there were noticeably less actors. That said, the Malefiencent-esque actress' costume was incredible. I strolled back up towards the tower through the Pumpkin Eater scare zone, which is always well done... ...and then double-backed down for the Black Widow Burlesque show, also returning from last year. Good as always, and still surprisingly risque for an amusement park. VID_20220924_222138599.mp4 The giant spiders are back as well, of course. It was nearing closing time, so I made my way back up to the front of the park, passing through the Uprising scare zone, which has been relocated from the Jungle X-pedition section to the long walkway between the tower and the clock/carousel. I think this is the only CF park that doesn't have tombstones for past rides. Upon arrival at the base of the tower, and the Masquerade scare zone, I noticed that not all of the chandeliers were illuminated, which I thought was weird. And with that, I made my way back to my car and back to my hotel to call it a night. Day 2, and well over a hundred pictures, coming up!1 point

Maybe corporate is banking on the park burning to the ground with the rest of California and then taking the insurance money for bonuses.1 point

Was at the resort last week and got to experience Cosmic Rewind finally. There's a ton I could unpack about it, but overall yeah, I can see this being a lot of people's favorite roller coaster in all of Walt Disney World! Quite thrilling, and surprisingly longer than I expected! Loved it! Not my favorite overall attraction at Disney (RotR is still king), and personally not my #1 coaster at Disney (I'm a sucker for Everest), but dang is it a top contender! I rode it twice, first time with virtual queue, and also had a Lightning Lane callback to get back in line later in the evening, and boy am I glad I did. I could ride that almost all day! I can't wait until they drop Virtual Queue, because it's very, very efficient with capacity too. I'm gonna try to still not spoil anything for anyone who's avoiding those (you should probably stop reading now if you're that person), but... There's one one thing I think I could critique with it, and it's that the story pacing during the actual coaster section itself is so fast that you miss a ton of what's actually happening. Now, no one needs to know what's happening, it's still just suuuuper fun to sit back and enjoy the ride! But if you're trying to follow along the full story as well, you'll miss a LOT on that first ride-thru. With regards to spinning: My dad is NOT into spinning rides and was worried it would make him too sick for the rest of the day. He was assured by many others he might like it and to give it a try anyway. Him and I rode together for our first ride. He said he did enjoy it, but it was very borderline for his limits and still made him a lil disoriented for a good portion of the day after, but he felt fine by the evening. I rode alone on my second lap . (Maybe spoiler for ride layout ahead) The coaster doesn't free-spin like a wild mouse, but there's a ton of sudden fast helixes throughout the ride that might still throw off those with weaker stomachs.1 point

^^ it won't be very popular. . but it WILL be a great addition. the vertical lift is going to scare people and they won't ride it - same thing happened with Tidal Surge (which is INCREDIBLE. . and never has a line because folks are scared of it). Similarly, Journey to Atlantis rarely has a line because folks see that backwards "roller coaster" section and go. . "nuh - uh" . . . oh, on super hot days it will get a shortish line (tho lots will hang around the "Splash zone" to get wet. . . but otherwise, it's always a short wait. SWSA really needs more water rides, since it's such a hot area, and there's not a whole lot of shade. so it's a great addition. . but the only water ride that ever gets a line is the Rio Loco (Rapids ride). .as if the waterfalls are on, the entire boat gets SOAKED. . and people flock to it for that reason.1 point

Great addition to SeaWorld San Antonio honestly. The park really needs to fill out the large amount of space it has with more attractions and exhibits. Both this ride and Tidal Surge are excellent additions to the parks lineup. More water rides in Texas is always a good move.1 point

We went to the park yesterday for the first time in years. It was a pretty huge shitshow. By park close, "only" Crazanity, Scream, Ninja, Superman, X2 and Drop of Doom (or whatever it's called) and about half of the smaller rides remained closed for the entire day, but every major ride that wasn't up front opened around 2 despite a 6pm close. This included the brand new ride. The only exceptions were Goliath, Riddler and Batman that ran all day for some reason. Also, the rapids and the only indoor air conditioned restaurant were closed for the entire day. It was 102 degrees. As for positive things to say? Uh... the mountains are pretty and Tatsu exists. That's all I've got.1 point

Great report. What a difference a week makes? I was there on the 17th and got a dozen+ rides on Goliath throughout the day, all over both trains - front, middle, back, wherever, and thought it was running like a dream - much better than my visits in 2016 and 2018. Super smooth and ludicrously fast. No rattle at all that I noticed. People always rave over SFOG's Goliath as the best B&M hyper but I think after these rides I finally got it. Actual texts to @coasterbill raving about it:1 point

Looks like the landscaping budget was being saved for fall plants. The park had a fairly light crowd for a Fright Fest on Friday. Finally made it on Catwoman immediately after Freaks Unleashed with ~30 minute line - went right back up to over an hour shortly after so great timing. The ride is great and the crew was chewing through the line was fast as the ride would let them - I was seriously impressed. Didn't ride anything else but it felt like coasters were on one train due to the intervals I saw. As for the mazes. The corn one seems improved this year though it was super under staffed. Slaughterhouse has definitely been changed - cage scene has either been deleted or just wasn't working on Friday, but it was well staffed and the area under the building is being used as part of the maze this year. The Christmas maze is in fact using the Moon Car area - it could use another actor or two but it's actually got potential, the biggest issue is there are two long empty walks during the maze where it really feels like they ran out of time building it out. I liked it better than the SFOG Christmas maze. Oddball's is just sad at this point. Scare zones seem to be scaled back this year though. Only the clown area seems to be full size and staffed. Gnawlins' name change also coincides with like 30 feet less scare zone. The zombies area is WAY shorter but it was moved a bit to where Tsunami Soaker is so at least the bathroom isn't inside the zone anymore. They removed everything from the old UPS van and repainted it, not sure they're even going to use this on busier days or even how they could use it. Also the freaks didn't ride in on the train. Not sure if they just didn't want to deal with wet rails due to the rain or if the train is already down for winter. But it's always a disappointment when they don't have the Freak Train. Other than the mazes being mostly staffed well and having new signs for them the rest of Fright Fest feels scaled back. Like almost to HallowFest levels in the scare zones. I really really hope that's due to Friday staffing, slightly smaller zones can still work if they have enough actors but there were literally only three zombies.1 point

Howl-o-Scream Creeps Back to Williamsburg Guests coming to Busch Gardens Williamsburg best be ready for witches, cannibals, evil clowns, Jack o’ the Lantern, and even a creepy game-show host at Howl-o-Scream 2022 (HOS). The park held a VIP/Media Night on Friday, September 23, hosted by Mr. Bobby Ocean, the MC of that classic game show Win, Lose, or Die on Station 666. Of course, the show’s been off the air for a while, and all the other folks at the station are dead, but Bobby is making his big comeback greeting guests at the front entrance for HOS. He gets ‘em coming and going. TPR thanks Busch Gardens for inviting us to their big night--and for the nice spread of fiendish food and drink in the Globe Theatre. But what’s new at HOS this year? There are three new “Terror-tories" (that is, scare zones)--Dead A-Head (the vengeful spirits of the beheaded in France), Gorgon Gardens (Medusa and other sirens in Italy), and Scary Tale Road (childhood favorites gone horribly wrong in Germany). Meat Market (New France) and Ripper Row (England) are back, as are the roaming hordes of scary clowns with chain saws and really big hammers. Although DarKastle is now lost as a “special event” space, the park is offering three new mazes this year (two are from last year). Nevermore: Chapter II (NEW, old Drachen Fire station): This is a reimagining of the Nevermore maze that was in DarKastle last year, and I think the new space (which has more of a “decayed House of Usher” feel) works better for it. It’s a walk through the world of Edgar Allan Poe’s stories, including “Murders in the Rue Morgue” and “Masque of the Red Death.” I’ve always been a big fan of Poe, so this was my favorite. Death Water Bayou (NEW, Festa Italia): This maze uses the same space as last year’s Circo Sinistro. It’s a big improvement, with much better sets and atmosphere, including a New Orleans mortuary, a creepy jazz club, and (of course) a voodoo master’s lair. Nice work reusing the old tents from the circus maze. Inferno (NEW, Escape from Pompeii show building): This maze is a somewhat generic “walk through Hell,” with demons, victims, and the smell of brimstone. But I think it’s a good replacement for the old Dystopia maze and fits in better with Pompeii. KILLarney Diner (Battle for Eire building, Ireland): Who’s ready for lunch? You’re always on the menu at this 1950s diner for cannibals. Who would like a nice plate of Steamed Ears or Flesh Fries? I love the diner and town sets of this maze, but it has the same problem other mazes have had in this building--that long exit where nothing happens. Witch of the Woods (behind Verbolten in Germany): Yes, there are woods and witches here. I thought this maze was a bit weak last year, but on Friday night the witch and her minions were a bit more active. It’s quite a hike to get there, though. You have to walk around the Festhaus and all the way past the old Drachen Fire barn on a service trail. Note that Monster Stomp on Ripper Row should be opening next weekend (September 30), but other shows, such as Jack Is Back (Ireland) and Phantoms of the Festhaus, are running now. Again, thank you to Busch Gardens Williamsburg for inviting Theme Park Review to the VIP Night. Dust off your crucifix and break out the garlic--we’re heading into Howl-o-Scream! Here's the some of spread BGW put out for the VIP Night. The hand on the right was not part of cuisine (at least for the media). Did you ever have the feeling that you were being watched? Not sure why . . . it was just a strange sensation that came over me. I'm pretty sure these cards are cursed. I'm positive now. At Busch Gardens, even the dead can smoke only in certain designated areas. Time to start exploring Howl-o-Scream. Jack is, indeed, back in Ireland. Get down, or Jack will haunt the hell out of you! Who's ready for Jack's after party? "Our special tonight is Roast Leg of YOU!" The sign pretty much says it all. Remember, before entering Inferno, please apply sunscreen. "Somebody wanna hand me a magazine? I'm gonna be on the throne for a while, if you catch my drift." Fire in this skull's mouth hole! Sheesh! Even the trees in Italy are burning. This is the best-dressed snake person I've ever seen. The stone-faced ruler of Gorgon Gardens. I give Busch Gardens credit for how they name their bars. On to Germany and whatever fiendish fate awaits us. Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore . . . one more time!" OK, I'll cut off these chains so you can escape the pendulum. But watch out for the pit as you exit to your left. "Oh, you simply must stay for the party! It'll really start to swing when Red Death arrives." "For the love of God, Montressor, if you don't show up with that Amontillado in five minutes, I'm leaving!" It wouldn't be HOS without some random fog. Once upon a time, before Disney sanitized them, fairy tales were really creepy. Hey, pig, how's that straw house workin' for ya? On Scary Tale Road, the pumpkins eat Peter, the Pumpkin Eater. Should I glaze myself first? This guy in the Meat Market was the most polite monster I ever met. Always happy to give a hand . . . or a foot . . . or a liver. "You're gonna buy a handstamped ring, right? Who wants cake? "Oh, what an adorable little girl! Let granny help you with that guillotine." "Yes, we don't behead just anyone, you know!" Darkness descends, so it's time for a pint. "Aye, Scotland! We're hauntin' the hell outta ye!" Blurry park guests! The most frightening monsters of them all! Ireland isn't the only venue where one can, as they say, "get down." Bozo never had a chain saw. That was his mistake. "Wanna try my whammer? It's really big!" Can you not smell the gumbo . . . of DEATH? I wonder if there's a beignet stand around here? If this was a "Boo Blasters" ride, he'd have milk and cookies. It's quite a haul to Witch of the Woods. First, you have to get past Gorgon Gardens. Then you walk all the way around the Festhaus, past Nevermore, then past the old Drachen Fire barn. Our quest is at an end. God be praised! "Geez! All we did was fall asleep for a few hundred years, and a damn tree grew around us!" "I am an attorney representing the Blair Witch, and she would like to discuss this egregious violation of her trademark 'stick figures.'" That was a fun night, but I'm beat . . . oh, crap--a cop! And Jack the Ripper? Where's that cop when I need him? "Y'all won this round of 'Win, Lose, or Die'! Care to play again?" That's a wrap from Howl-o-Scream 2022 at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Thanks for reading.1 point

Managed to take the kiddo on Sunday to ride rides and check out some of the Fright Fest decorations. He's seen several horror movies (unfortunately) and loves scary stuff. He really wants to go in the evening when Fright Fest is going on but I'm wary about it. For a kid, he is absolutely fearless - but he's still just a little guy (he's almost 7.) NOTE: - he watched IT and Halloween at his Grandmother's house (not with me,) and loves them. To the point where his mother got him a Michael Myers birthday cake last year. I'm raising either a dare devil or a serial killer - I'll keep you all apprised Have to say, had the best ride on Scream Machine that I've had in YEARS. I'll still only ride in the front seat - but it reminded me of what it was like when I was a kid in the 80's. Wooden coaster rough, but not bad and full of airtime. It was awesome.1 point

My solution... Rent an ordinary ol' Carousel and place it in it the current footprint, providing a working ride and more importantly removing a dreadful eyesore. In the meantime they can take their sweet time renovating, painting, restoring our Classic. And when that is done, place it in the courtyard area in front of our Palace Theater with a nice, classy station and queue. Remove the rented Carousel and replace with a nice Flat, Spin and Puke. Solved.1 point

so here's a nice story on it that will give you a lot of detail: https://www.stltoday.com/entertainment/six-flags-st-louis-historic-carousel-gets-major-makeover/article_6003940e-5324-5a51-85b2-0e2eec00416d.html but bottom line? it IS an early PTC Carousel - #35 - that is over 100 years old, as it was built in 1915. It came from Luna Park (not the *famous* Luna Park in Coney Island tho. . but rather the Luna Park in Cleveland. so it *is* historic. . but it's just not (to me) a Classic. (that would be one of the numbers lower than 25, produced in the first few years of PTC existence) - for example, the one I cited above: the Riverview Carousel at SFOG (stunningly maintained, and located on the beautiful Carousel Hill in the park) is PTC #17, built in 1908 (that's why that one is considered a classic (by me at least)). hopefully that makes sense?1 point

Yes. It can vaguely be seen in these images from 1997: Yellow is Zulu, blue is where Zinger was, orange rectangle with arrow is the entrance. Compared to today (Zulu at the very top of the image): Boomerang can be seen in the background in the last image. Timber Wolf is nothing special overall, but it is at least enjoyable now and has a good amount of airtime. There was even more fresh track on it this year than last, got to give credit where credit is due. They are doing a heck of a job maintaining TW.1 point

I just found a page posted, (all written in Mandarin I believe?), that shows one of the new animatronic figures in the Zootopia ride.... Officer Clawhauser! Here's the link to the page with the video of him speaking, etc. https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/hfzvmvOXB6U0POGwKuGf0g Very cool to see and hear, even if I don't understand the language, lol. But they do have an English translation, bottom of the vid screen. Isn't he cute?1 point

We visited for the first time this past weekend. I was surprised at how nice the park is compared to Valleyfair and Dorney. Mamba was probably our favorite ride there, but I don’t want to overhype it too much. It was a lot better than Steel Force and a bit better than Wild Thing but I prefer every other Morgan hyper that I’ve been on.1 point
