kidcoaster 2
Alright guys. I am going to bring you something really special... Coverage from the 2014 Transworld's Halloween & Attractions Show! Now this isn't just another horror convention like the many around the country. No folks, this is the IAAPA of the haunt industry! Held every year in St. Louis this is the go to show for everyone from the small yard or home haunter to the likes of Netherworld, Six Flags, and even Universal! This event however is closed to the public and the only way to attend is to work in the industry so coverage can be hard to find sometimes but don't worry I am going to show you what this event has to offer! Here is a short promo from this years show! Enjoy the photos! ***Caution some photos could be offensive and may gore and nudity. This may not be appropriate for some of the younger viewers. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED*** Always love seeing this first thing in the morning! Hello St. Louis! St Louis metro. Easy link from the airport to downtown. Needed to check in first. View from my room! Alright time to head to the show! This is the place! Made it! Welcome to Transworld's Halloween and Attractions Show 2014!!! There were many MANY things to check out! Also plenty of different kinds of education opportunities. The first thing you see when you walk in. This place is HUGE! Creepy possessed animatronic anyone? One of the random sets you can buy. This was bad a$$ and also the biggest item at the show. Here you an get things like attacking dogs. Every haunt needs black lights. First let's head to the Dark Zone. Dragon!!! This was another cool one. Hazard Room set up. There was this thing.... There were many different types of Vortex's here... Over used? Yes. But the general public eat em up! Hall of skeletons Even more dragons! This is what I look like in the morning. Hoodie, Check. Credentials, Check. Show guide, Check. TPR Bag? Check! I needed this bag to carry around the 30 pounds of catalogs I would pick up! I guess his name is FU.... No not that! Midnight Syndicate! You can find them at Cedar Point this year during Halloweekends! Gore Galore had a very stand out booth. Giant clown. Hope you don't have coulrophobia! Creepy Who wants an inflatable? You can even buy light up Cotton Candy! Hmmmm reminds me of a certain ride... One thing that was really noticeable on the floor is that paintball is in and it is BIG! Look out! Just chilling. This seems lost... This guy was awesome... He would stand there and pretend to be a prop until someone came to get a closer look and would give them a scare! Who needs a toilet? You know you want it! Looks of actors roaming about! WTF! Looks like she had better days! "I love you" he says. Mmmmmm donuts When in St Louis there is one thing you must do.... The City Museum! After years of reading about this on this site I finally got a chance to visit! Almost as awesome at the Knoebel's sign. Model railway. Some really old school pinball machines. Hit the duck game. I donated my under pants to the museum. Well that's kinda creepy... It was at this point that I returned to the hotel. City Museum is really awesome do not miss it if you are in town. Thanks for reading Day 2 coming soon with more show floor coverage and The Darkness haunt! When you do manage to find it this room is really cool to look up in. A good bit of the museum was under construction. Edited April 3, 2014 by kidcoaster
KBrylczyk
The Pumpkin Arch made me laugh. "Imagine the cash flow you can generate with thousands of pumpkins."
kidcoaster 2
Part 2 brings us to day 2. We have explore the show floor a lot more and pay a visit to the Darkness haunted house! ***Caution some photos could be offensive and may gore and nudity. This may not be appropriate for some of the younger viewers. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED*** You can buy a stationary free fall tower from Vertical Reality. They were also nice enough to let me get a photo from up top. Creepy children's room. Workshop Tough luck I guess. Some random creepy heads. Body bag room Being a show FOR haunted houses it makes sense to have a haunted house. Welcome to the interactive haunted house. This house is set up on the show floor and showcases the products from the various vendors. Some of these sets were really great! This looks like a crappy situation. That's it from the interactive haunted house! How about some RCT stands? Always loved the bungee jumpers in the haunts. Need advertising material? They got that too! You can pick up some different ways to accept payment for your haunt. Who doesn't want a horse head?!?!?!?! I loved this bubble gum machine. Distortions is one of the biggest vendor names in the industry! You can get your costumes here. Or some new teeth! Or if you prefer cash they have that covered with custom ATMs. She was pretty creepy. "Tip toe by the window....." This was a puppet controlled who was talking and entertaining the crowd. He was very much a smart a$$. I found a new yeti for Disney! Or maybe this one? Mhm..... Ugh fake chain saws... why? Gore Galore claw. This worked great in the Darkness! Each night at a haunt involves ALOT of walking and running and spending pretty much the entire night on your feet. These guys can take care of you! How about some new wheels? You can even get insurance here! With some haunts generating an hour or a couple wait you need to keep your guests entertained. Once again more paintball goodness! This would be great for a high attendance farm haunt! They are famous for their funky scents... you can get anywhere from cotton candy to poop! They also always make their presence known! Froggy's Fog is another huge company in the industry! More paintball! Another high energy booth. Great way to show that it is water proof. You can even get some classic Freak Show signage. How about a Hi Striker game? Need a spot light to guide people to your haunt? They have that too! Please please PLEASE! Support this great cause. This would help generate more attention to our growing industry! Flatline radio. At the end of the day they auctioned off the various scenes from the Interactive Haunted House. Well that's it for this update from the show. Up next the Darkness! The Darkness is only a 3 minute drive from downtown St Louis and is in this very discrete building but what lays inside is awesome! I never know if they go by the Darkness or Scarefest but either way this place is great! Right way you know you are in for a treat. Seriously kick a$$ theming for just the queue! Serious face. Once again great detail in the queue! No photos are allowed in the haunt but at the exit you are dumped into their horror museum! Bet you seen this guy before! Really cool pinball machine. Wolfman! It was weird seeing the Grinch here! This was neat too! Alien! This was the coolest thing! Shame they ruined the series by over doing it. Well that is it! I leave you with the Scarefest hearse. This haunt was really awesome! Besides the Darkness they also have a 3D haunt connected with was really great! If you are in town during the fall season make it a point to check them out! One more update to come! Thanks for reading! More goodness! New corporate brothers. Welcome to part 2! Here is a overhead shot of the show floor. This place is huge! This is weird. I'm a lifelong St. Louisian and I've never heard of this place. Of the Darkness, City Museum, or the tradeshow? Must be thre trade show, it's impossible not to hear a Darkness commercial during October. Also Scarefest is the name.of three seperate attractions the company that runs the Darkness puts on. One is an outside haunt, which was pretty lame, the other is in an old cave system that was used for storing beer. We went to the cave on a lights out night and it was amazing, but might not be open anymore as the building above are being turned into lofts. This may not be appropriate for some of the younger viewers. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED*** And another day at the show! First up was a buried alive simulator. These are pretty neat. There were many many stars from SciFi's FaceOff! Here is RJ Haddy doing his thing. There was this simulator on the floor. It was... Interesting. Even more paintball! These guys had an entire Paintball haunted house! Some really impressive shooting sets. Scene 2 Another hall Some theming inbetween the scenes. Real rebar in the set. This neat falling light set up. Radios are a nessesity for any attraction. More Dounuts! Scare Factory. This is the end where you return your gear. Want a custom mask? CFX are your guys! Bloody Mary's Make Up Pile of bodies... Typical day in the haunt industry. Even more insurance options. Aqua thingies... What about teeth? Creepy bug thingy. He is kinda cute in a creepy sorta way. I seen these twice at the darkness and I really love these things! Giant rat thing. Best catalog of the convention! I found the SFMM construction crews... Still just hanging around. Well that is all. Thanks a ton for reading! If you are interested in getting involved in this industry just find your local haunt and see how you can help! Darklight had a small booth but they are one of the biggest vendors in the industry. You can find their products at Six flags, Universal, City Museum, and even Walt Disney World! Rock Monster Another swing by the Gore Galore booth. Gonna give a shout out for Zombie Skin. We use this pretty heavily and this is a great choice when applying make up quickly. Singing Heads Another beautiful day in St Louis!

downunder
Thanks for the great updates Ken, some of the artistry in those exhibits was breath taking. I wonder where rock monster will go this year at Scary Farm given End Games is no longer? Can't wait for Haunt season, hopefully I'll be there again. One of the greatest marvels of City Museum is how do they get insurance? Such an original, crazy place, like 1000 Ways To Die meets Alice In Wonderland. kidcoaster 2
One of the greatest marvels of City Museum is how do they get insurance? Such an original, crazy place, like 1000 Ways To Die meets Alice In Wonderland. I was blown away by the fact they don't even have waivers. I was expecting to fill one out but no. It is just a tiny disclaimer on the wristband. Crazy was I was only there for a short time but I witness several people hurt themselves (not bad but still). I learned from a local the best time to visit is after dark because that is when the kids leave and they start really seeing beer! Thanks for the comments guys! It is great that you guys enjoyed the report and I will just have to do it every year!
