Right vs. Left

Recommended Posts

This past Sunday at Cedar Point for the first time ever I rode on the far left side of Raptor- now on almost any ocaster I ride on the right side- just preference I guess- but Raptor felt like a completely different ride over there- it was still the back seat which is where I usually ride. Does anyone else notice a difference on rides in general switching from the left to right side?

For me, I just prefer right side on ANY B&M coaster. I notice more forces are pulled to that side. And I like it like that!

OMG, yes. The difference is like night and day on Patriot, especially in the back. You really notice the difference in the zero-g roll. On the right side, you're pushed over - hard, but not hard enough for pain. On the left side, it's complete perfection - a split-second of being completely suspended in mid air. Bliss.

Hmm... I'l have to experiment with this.

I usually go for the right, just because I'm weird like that, but sometime I like the middle because I like seeing the track.

Other times, i like being exposed on the outside.

If zero g rolls really feel different on different sides... I will really have to expirement with this. Which direction does patrios flip you on the zero G?

I need to know so I can try this on hulk.

Of course differen sides feel different. of course it only feels different in twists and turns.

On a roll that rolls you to the right, The left side is pushed up and around by your seat. On the right side you are pulled down and around by the harness.

On Medusa went I like sitting on the right side because there is a nice pop on the turn after the MCBR. On the left you just fall into the turn.

So then would't the best place for a zero G roll be the middle?

I used to always sit on the right side of coasters when I was younger, no particular reason, just did it automatically.

There's some coasters where I prefer a certain side... like any Vekoma SLC, I like to have the staircase nearby in case we need to be evacuated, because I've been stuck on at least three different SLCs and one twice! never actually did get taken off though...

On SRoS at SFNE I sit on the left to get the view of the CT River and not the railings to the right.

Usually I develop a preference to a certain side after riding a coaster multiple times...

For B:TR(non-mirrored) and Raptor, I prefer the right becuase it is the outside of the first drop.

On Voyage, I can't say either side is really preferable, there are so many twists and turns either way.

The one ride where it REALLY makes a difference for me is Cornball Express, which I definitely prefer the right, because you are on the outside of the first and second drops, as well as along the lake on the third.

I always sit on the left sideso I can get in and out of the car fast without having to wait for the slowpoke to get out. I always get in first and get out first because I am fast.

As for ride experience, It doesn't matter for me!

So for the most part- this is just a B&M difference?

For the most part yeah, because B&M trains are wider than most.

All other coasters are basicly like sitting in the two inner seats of a B&M where the rider is just off being in the middle of the train.

I guess X is a ride that makes a difference what side you sit on though.

Someone did make a point about the differences in forces from right to left only in the 4-abreast B&M trains. That is simply due to the properties of rotational acceleration. The further from the axis (center), the stronger the rotational acceleration is.
