exmouse Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Yep you read the title right. In a complete contrast to the many discussions of accidents where people have died, this time someone was saved as a result of riding a coaster. A woman from Gloucester in the UK rode Hulk at IOA and came off feeling dizzy and sick. She was rushed to hospital where it was discovered she had a brain tumour. Had she not ridden the Hulk the symptons wouldn't have appeared until much later in its development and she would have died. So the Hulk saved her life. Makes a nice change from the usual roller coaster can kill stories.
exmouse Posted April 13, 2006 Author Posted April 13, 2006 I use to work for a regional news program that covers the Gloucester area and they phoned me up to get some footage.
benzo41190 Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Well wouldnt she have gone to the hospital no matter what? So why does it matter if she noticed it then or later? Also, would the ride have made it worse?
stew560 Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Had she not ridden the Hulk the symptons wouldn't have appeared until much later in its development and she would have died.
Jive Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 I hate to poop on the story but how do we know that she's going to live? I agree that Hulk may have increased her chances but surviving a brain tumor involves a lot more than just finding it.
DerekRx Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 ^Because since they found it when they did, they have a better chance to treat it, either with sugery, radiation, chemotherapy, etc. Had it not been found when it was, it could have progressed in size, thus making treatment more difficult. Nothing SAVED her life thus far, but it did make her aware that something was wrong.
exmouse Posted April 13, 2006 Author Posted April 13, 2006 The ride meant it became dislodged and she started to feel pain. If it hadn't moved then she wouldn't have notcied any symptoms until it was too late for treatment. The incident actually happened a few months ago. But has only just been made publicly aware.
Wes Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Yeah, what a retarded superhero. The Hulk is soooooooooo lame.
Olsor Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Not unlike the time John Kruk got hit in the groin by a ball thrown by Mitch Williams. The incident led to an examination where it was discovered that Kruk had testicular cancer. The bad throw ended up saving his life. Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kruk But I digress.
Hercules Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 The Hulk Sucks But Lou Ferrigno is the man... This is a cool story if it is true.
BarryH Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 If the Hulk sucks, he needs to fight the suckies villian ever, the Ten-Eyed Man! Check him out here: http://www.seanbaby.com/stupcom/10eyedman.htm
haux Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Had she not ridden the Hulk the symptons wouldn't have appeared until much later in its development and she would have died. So the Hulk saved her life. This makes me laugh because you can't predict the future!
Angry_Gumball Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 It all really depends on the brain tumor. They can and will get worse as time progresses as they have these 'roots' that dig into the brain. Some tumors can be removed successfully and not grow back, however, there are some types that can be successfully removed but can grow back. Radiation/Chemo is used to slow down the growth.
Louise Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 The Hulk Sucks Yeah, what a retarded superhero. The Hulk is soooooooooo lame. OMG hulk is the best superhero ever how dare you say he isnt, hes amazing. your just jealous because you arent as great as him AND HE'D TOTALLY KICK YOUR ASS. The story is actually on the BBC website, doesn't give much more information except that the tumour was only 2cm in diameter at the time it was discovered. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/gloucestershire/4878396.stm
jamesdillaman Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 I'd really like to have an opinon in this thread, but I've never ridden Hulk, never saw the movie, read the comic books, or had a brain tumor, so I guess my thoughts are best kept to myself... On the other hand, whatever Wes says is probably true, so I'll agree.
dougr Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Yeah, what a retarded superhero. The Hulk is soooooooooo lame. Why don't you tell him yourself? Hulk smash puny assistant!
Wes Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 The look of dissapointment on this girl's face makes the picture that much funnier.
Swimace Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Nice coaster, horrible movie That's an interesting story though
