coasterfreaky Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 ^I think everyone's trying to figure out what the "record-breaking" part of this ride is, and at some point that became the best bet? Not sure, but I like it! To my knowledge, no one official has said it would be a record-breaker or contain any record-breaking elements (please prove me wrong if that is not correct - with quotes, etc)...it was said early on (i think by Pete) that it would be "A first" of some sort....not sure if the "A first" statement took into account the 6FlagsGA Wingrider...probably not.
CorkscrewFoley Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I'm behind quite a few days, did do the reading, and could it possible be a cobra roll? I haven't seen anything mentioned about it.
A.J. Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I'm behind quite a few days, did do the reading, and could it possible be a cobra roll? I haven't seen anything mentioned about it. A cobra roll is most likely too tight for the wide trains to navigate.
harper83087 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 ^Anything can be modified to accomodate the trains, it may look a little odd but it's possible. I think a cobra roll would be one of the weirdest feelings sitting outside of the track.
imagineerz Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 We could be looking at something like Hydra's Cobra Roll to accommodate the trains
Velo_editor Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I found that funny as well. Would Dollywood fans be happy with a ride similar to X-Flight? I'd be happy with lunch and some cinnamon bread at Dollywood, so a ride similar to X-Flight is just icing. Icing on cinnamon bread sounds awesome! And I really don't care in the end if the ride is record breaking or if it's exactly like some other ride. All I know is Dollywood will create a great ride that only adds to an otherwise awesome park.
ernierocker Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) New image! http://www.dollywood.com/dollywood2012/landing.php Looks like the lift hill on the far left (you can just make out the catwalk), the first drop in the center and probably the first loop on the far right. coasterfreak101 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Wouldn't it be cool if this thing had tracers? All those little dots kind of look like lights...
dragonskeep Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Are those dots or lights? What is that? I'm missing something aren't I.
harper83087 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 It is a dusk scene in the hints, my guess (hope) is lights. That would be really cool if they put lights along the entire track spine or at least the major elements.
ZackBack™ Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I know it's totally way out there, but has the possibility of it being the world's longest coaster been discussed? An 8200' B&M? Dollywood would have to drop about $40 million, if not more. They DID say that it was the most EXPENSIVE expansion to Dollywood to date..... Maybe length is the record-breaker?
dragonskeep Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 I have heard a lot of guesses in the 3200 feet area. That sounds about right for a Wingrider. This will probably be the nicest of the 4 Wingriders so it could be bigger but 3000 to 3200 feet is a pretty safe guess. I am nearly positive the record will have something to do with the Zero-G roll. Of course I am basing this on nothing at all.
Intimidator305 Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 They DID say that it was the most EXPENSIVE expansion to Dollywood to date..... Maybe length is the record-breaker? The most expensive expansion at Dollywood so far has been 17.5 million (which was Mystery Mine). Your average "great" coaster costs more than that now-a-days...
Guy T. Koepp Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Honestly, that looked like a vertical drop into a loop element. Could we be looking at a 1st of it's kind vertical drop Wingrider? Only 3ish days left until the cat is out of the bag.
ernierocker Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 It does look fairly steep but it is hard to tell if it's vertical with the angle of the picture.

I would definitely hope for something a bit longer than the existing/announced wing riders - something that would offer a longer terrain-riding experience. I guess we'll see!
MillenniumCP Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 New clue is up. Looks like a Zero G roll. Sorry I can't copy and paste the picture. I don't know how, but here is the link. http://dollywood2012.com/ Answer is 35 acres.
Zeppelinfreak Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 ^It looks more like a corkscrew to me.

dragonskeep Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I guess the employees know about the new 2012 attraction as of this morning. I hope there isn't any info until the 4th. Lets just wait this one out. The video responses on the 2012 site indicate to me that "the sky is not the limit" refers to the size and scope of the project. Being that we aren't likely going under ground with that behemoth train and surely not going to space, "sometimes the sky is not the limit", refers to, in my opinion, a project that surpasses expectations for Dollywood. They have been throwing around terms like "on par with Cedar Point" , and "will change the way you think about Dollywood". Sounds like they plan to make a big hit, more than expected perhaps.
krakenmaniac Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 (edited) http://www.dollywood.com/dollywood2012/landing.phpNEW CLUE !!!!!!!!!!!! its pretty much confirmed that its a wing rider Edited September 2, 2011 by krakenmaniac
ernierocker Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 (edited) Here it is! Not only is that a blurred Wingrider train, but we now know there are at least two inversions! New Picture (3).bmp Edited September 2, 2011 by ernierocker
