true dat!

(i bet 90% of poncho sales at water rides are sold to asians! [like me! {but ive never bought a poncho}])

anyway, there's not a point!

but let me say this... i'd ride Perilous Plunge (KBF) if it was covered! just for the awsome drop!

you can do it if its supposed to be a senic ride, if it's a pretty wild ride (and therefore you dont need water to make exciting), or if your just stupid!

Maybe its not covered in the summer, but since its winter its covered because the water is freezing and you would probably get frostbit if you got splashed.

There is no point on going on a covered splash boat.

I also remember seeing on TV that Jurassic Park River Adventure has some sort of thing at the bottom of the drop to slow it down so there isnt as big as a splash as the other River Adventure Rides. I watched it on the Programme all about Universal Studios Japan.

yea but about the splash reducers how do they work?

Well, for one, normal waterrides splash into the water. The resulting force then pushes the spash out of the water. The first thing that can be done to reduce the splash, is to elevate the boat by having it ride on wheels that rest on rails. Therefore, less of the boat will actually be in the water, and thus, you have less of a splash.

The next thing that is done, is to hydro-dynamically design the bottom of the boats to funnel the water underneath and around the boats.

Finally, it is traditionally the water that slows down the boats. But once you have elevated the boat a bit out of the water, you lose less speed. To ensure proper braking, they can now place either a rubber surface to ride on, or now, even magnents!

You can definitely feel the difference on Splash Mountain. As you go down the drop, and enter the splash zone, you are litteral "riding" the rails in a straight line. The boat doesn't bounce or bob like it does during the normal parts of the ride. Once you reach the end, you can feel your boat dip down into the river again, and continue bobing in the water.

Anyway...back on topic. Truth is, most people dont like to get wet.

I didnt realize just how big a change they made to Jurassic Park River Adventure till we went to USH over Labor Day. Man the boat all but comes to a stop on the runout! I hear they can adjust the braking force to increase or reduce splash. In any event, it was still wierd seeing the boat slow to a crawl, then dip in the water...the splash is sooo small now!

About Splash Mountain at WDW...they have made so many adjustments over the past two years its mostly due to people standing up/jumping out of logs cause they didn't want to get that wet. A big change is the jets of water you see when the log goes down the final drop. Do you remember the one jet that used to shoot over toward the bottom of the second lift (the inclosed one). They adjusted it so its more of a light mist instead of a big stream and put a person positioned at the bottom of that lift to watch for people trying to jump out.

The reason for the Mag brakes on Intamin Splashovers (Hydro, Plunge, Jurassic Park) is to lessen the length of the run out. Without them the rides footprint would be huge, cost more, ect.

The reason for the covered boat may have something to do with the fact that it's about 45 degrees out and there are chunks of ice floating in the resivoir.

Oh, and to piss you guys off of course.

^ No. What? Hell No. Where the eff did you hear THAT from?

I saw a picture of PP in the off season and I thought that they would run it like a normal coaster without water. I mean it has a magnetic brakes and a track that the boats ride on. Why not run it without the water?

^ Because the end turn is free floating?

You can see in this pic where the track ends.

PP is drained for rehab in the off-season, which is probably why you saw the picture of it drained.
