christianscoasters Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 ^Also take into account the angle of the launch on Lightning Rod. While I haven't ridden it, I've ridden Incredible Hulk at IoA and Wicked at Lagoon, both having upwards launches and it feels much, much stronger than a flat launch.
RollerManic Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 (edited) ^Also take into account the angle of the launch on Lightning Rod. While I haven't ridden it, I've ridden Incredible Hulk at IoA and Wicked at Lagoon, both having upwards launches and it feels much, much stronger than a flat launch. That was my first thought. I figured the upwards launch had a lot to do with it but even of the examples of upwards launches I've ridden (off the top of my head I can think of Maverick), I can't assume they are easily comparable. Playing armchair engineer for a second, I suppose the reason upwards launches *MAY* be the cause of more intensity is because they accelerate you away from the pull of gravity, unlike a flat (okay, all launches are built at some angle for rollbacks and to help catch car engagement, but that's a negligible point) launch where the riders move parallel to gravity? rcjp Posted November 28, 2016 Posted November 28, 2016 The thing I wonder about those launches is if the G force number they give is just in terms of acceleration or what you really feel. Let me explain: if you had a vertical launch with the same acceleration as Kingda Ka (more or less 1.7Gs) you would actually feel 2.7 Gs because you'd have to add 1 G for being vertical. So I wonder if that 1G for lightning rod (for instance) is the "total" or just for the acceleration itself (which would be more impressive). Anyway, back on topic: weren't they going to begin testing quite a while ago?
JordyC Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Here we have the tests!!! I can't wait to experience this ride when it opens! Still no name, right?
rcjp Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 This video shows some faster test runs with the trains reaching the vertical section of the top hat.
coasterbill Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 It's so exciting to see another one of these being built. I know I keep saying that but every video I see just reinforces that excitement.
Dar Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 It's so weird seeing the different boards I visit react to this in their own way, from utter apathy to really excited! Personally it looks garbage and seems really pointless for the resort as a whole, but I'm sure it'll do well for them
coasterbill Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Has there ever been anyone who rode in the front row of Kingda Ka or Top Thrill Dragster and didn't have a great time? To each his own but I honestly almost feel sorry for you if you can't appreciate that and have an absolute blast. These things are a lot of fun, especially if you ride up front.
Henry M Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 I have done stealth and it is a MASSIVE rush. I really wat to ride a bigger version with only lap bars.

I'm slightly sad it won't be quite as fast, tall and quick to accelerate as KK or TTD but I can't really complain as I thought I'd never see a ride of this type in Europe.
Trevor Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Something horrible is happening now in Ferrari Land. A big fire is burning some big elements in the Ferrari Experience building. The Venice tower it's completely gone! Let's hope there are no personal damages.
SFOG1991 Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Oh wow that looks like a very serious large fire. Hope they get that under control and everyone is ok. According to local news no one appears to be injured but it did affect/destroy that main structure and some surrounding structures.
psaulaferraz Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Apparently the fire lasted for only 30 minutes, enough time to burn the whole Venice Tower replica and, I'm not sure at all, but part of the Ferrari Experience building. Now the fire is completely gone and no one was injured.
gerstlaueringvar Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 That's insane! Glad nobody was hurt during this incident.
coasterbill Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 At first glance I assumed it was the coaster and honestly that would have been the most "Intamin Strata Coaster" thing that ever happened.
coasterbill Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 That's the same exact photo that was just posted only zoomed in and therefore really pixelated and crappy. Also, check your comments. there are 3 new ones.
psaulaferraz Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Following what the Catalan firefighter service twitter account said, the tower (which measures 16x16x82 foot) is gone and the Ferrari Experience building has damage in the isolation. Both fires are extinguished now.
coasterbill Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Just to clarify, this is the building in question right?
psaulaferraz Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 ^Yes, the tower and part of the adjacent building is where the damage is
