Tony Hawk's Big er.... Pandemonium?

Sounds like the spinning coaster has an "identity crisis"! I never really understood why Six Flags changed the name of the "Big Spin" coasters to "Pandemonium" besides Six Flags lost the rights to use Tony Hawk? It's not like Tony Hawk owns the rights to the name "Big Spin"!

Great TR, thanks for the photos. Looks like Tsunami Soaker has been well received by the GP. The park did a nice job of it but like others have stated in the past it does look a bit out of place just based on the area around it. Maybe SF will do a small re-theme around the ride to make it fit in better?

The log flume is actually one of my favorites since it's a long ride but it looks like it needs a bit of TLC.

So has the backstage employee only area that was behind the hannibarrels been removed?

Any "area" that was there is gone, but the building remains, it is the gray building in the left of this picture.

The two times we've been so far, it has been a walk on, although everyone leaves with smiles on their faces. Also luckily the pumps were running for both sides of the flumes or they would have looked very bad. Not sure if these can be painted or what can be done.

Thanks to everyone else for the comments.

I just have one question regarding the quote above, does Tony Hawk acutely owns the rights to the name "Big Spin"?

Yes, now you owe him 2 dollars

Then how would you explain Six Flags' use of the name "Big Spin" right after Six Flags lost the right to use Tony Hawk?

When Six Flags lost the right to use Tony Hawk, his name, likeness, and branding was removed from the spinning coasters and they just became "Big Spin". Kind of almost what Darien Lake did to their Superman: Ride of Steel coaster after Six Flags sold it and the Superman branding was removed from Ride of Steel.

Six Flags only wanted to use the name "Pandemonium" for their spinning coasters in the US just for unification. If I was the CEO of Six Flags I would either renew the rights to use Tony Hawk or just call the former Tony Hawk coasters "Big Spin".

Does the name attachment really do anything for ridership or popularity? I would think it helps out when a ride is brand new, but after it's just the ride that attracts people to it not the name. Would people still ride Batman, Superman or Mr Freeze if the names were different?

The name "Big Spin" on its own sounds like a TV game show or a washing machine.

Well, I can't imagine Six Flags renaming their Batman and Superman coasters to something like "Superhero: The Ride" or Six Flags renaming their Mr. Freeze coasters to something like "Reverse Blast Chiller". I would think that people would still ride them regardless of name and/or theme. The DC Comics superheroes and villians is part of Six Flags' branding along with the Looney Tunes. As for "Big Spin", I think that Six Flags should have just kept the name without Tony Hawk instead renaming the spinning coaster to "Pandemonium".

Pandemonium is a much better name for a spinning coaster than "Big Spin" in my opinion.

I have no comment on that fact!

Six Flags has got three spinning coaster whose cars look like skateboards and in my opinion the name "Big Spin" sound like a better fit since it's a name of a skateboarding trick. The name "Pandemonium" was just pick by Six Flags as another name for them to overuse (like "Goliath")!

But if all three spinning coasters were named "Big Spin" would that then be overused also? I hate the overused argument for ride naming, there are only so many names that can be used even when going outside the English language for rides, it just seems trivial.

I've heard that Six Flags has exclusive rights to the Iron Horse technology for the next few years. If so, I'm guessing they'll try to crank out as many Iron Horse coasters as possible before the contract expires. I have to believe Iron Boss is coming eventually, whether it be 2015 or later on.

Yes, but at least it would still be associated with skateboarding and not have a name that's irreverent to the "sport" of skateboarding. The Heck, I wouldn't even mind if Six Flags renamed/themed all of their "Big Spin" coasters as "The Joker" like they did with Six Flags Discovery Kingdom's "Big Spin" coaster when they sent it to Six Flags Mexico.

This is a total pipe dream, but I was thinking about how SFStL could use a revitalized entrance, and I keep picturing something similar to Cedar Points new entrance with Gatekeeper. Well I was thinking why couldn't you do the same thing with an element like the zero-G stall on Goliath and have that as an entrance to a park. Then my next thought was well since this is Six Flags "St. Louis" why not build a replica of the arch at the entrance and attach the zero-G stall to the side of that. I have no idea if that could be done from an engineering standpoint, but I think it would be one of the best looking entrances to a theme park in the world. I've had this idea in my head for the last two days and felt the need to share it.

Well, considering that Batman is just to the right of the entrance and American Thunder just to the left, there's not a whole lot of room there for a coaster--and they are absolutely not removing either of those any time soon. Now your arch idea I like a lot. I know SFStL is interested in redoing the entrance and is in the process of removing ticket booths. Having an arch over the whole area would be really cool indeed, and pretty tall as well. Arches are always equal in height to the distance between the two bases. I'd guess the entrance plaza is at least 150 feet across, maybe more than that, so the arch would be pretty tall. Actually, why not make it a ride? The real arch has a gondola inside--this could be a miniature version of that. Capacity might be an issue, but it'd be the coolest observation tower.

I have a dream.....of Guest Relations windows as far as the eye can see......but I guess a coaster would be cool too.

I would think so too. The boss has so much potential and the iron horse treatment would definitely benefit the boss. Not to mention the crowds that would come to SFSTL just to ride this coaster. This would definitely be a good decision on six flags part.

It would definitely be a smart move to compete with SDC.

I couldn't agree more.
