Wow... what a great new addition... Is the park prepared to deal with the increase in attendance?.

What were you expecting? The park saw the need for another water ride and added one. It looks like a fun ride.

I don't get your negative attitude. I have no problem with you not going to the park if you don't want to, but why do you act like everybody cares?

If anyone wants to message me your questions, I would be happy to answer them. I am answering them as a fellow enthusiast, who just happens to be extremely knowledgable about park policies, not as an employee of Guest Relations as I am not on the clock. I am really sorry about the hold up at Guest Relations, and I can tell you most employees are working around the clock to get back to everyone. Because it is crazy, I will answer any of your questions "unofficially" if you will send them to me.

There have been issues with sixflags.com for awhile now (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't), maybe it's actually working now (it's a corporate failure, that falls on the parks).

Tsunami Soaker is bascially just a complementary ride, I don't think that it's really expected to build attendance (just keep attendance that the park already has), it's something that would be better added as a part of a package, because alone it's not very much, but it does add a family ride to the parks' lineup.

My 8YO is a low-key ride boy. He has done all the coasters he is eligible for ONCE. "See I can do it Dad, I just don't like it". Have to respect that. He won't do any of the slides at HH, just the wave pool and lazy river. Tidal wave is to much for him. Thrills just are not his thing. So I am very pleased to have Tsunami. There just isn't much at the park for him. He was to tall for most of Looney Toons last year but got away with it most of the time, no chance this year.

I suspect we will be waiting in long lines for the tsunami to hit.

Does he not like Big KAhuna (big red family raft slide) or the other Tube slides? I can even handle those and I don't do much..

Nope. Won't touch them and the boy is a fish and has the lungs of a whale. The boy is 46" tall and is perfectly comfortable in the wave pool in the deepest part, full waves and no floatation. If he didn't look exactly like me I would be having some serious conversations with the wife. I got him up to the top of the tube slide last year, sat him down on the tube and he just burst into tears. We had to take the walk of shame. A neighbor bribed her son to ride a coaster with 2 new 3DS games. It worked but I refuse to do that.

My 11YO loves it all but is super skinny, like 1% body fat. He has a problem on Bonzai Pipeline in that is scrapes up his lower back on his spine. All the non tube slides hurt my back, but just tear him up. Are we dong something wrong or just genetic mutants?

I've never had a problem with any of the slides scrapingmy back or my kids'. My only thing was during the preview of bonzai, i nervously tried to "catch" myself during/after the drop and.slammed and elbow pretty good, it was sore for like a week.

It probably didn't come off that way, but I was mostly making fun of the news, more than the park. I'd be kind of disappointed with that coverage if I were six flags. I'm definitely no journalist, but I feel like the piece could have been put together better by high schoolers.

lol.. did anyone else feel like the Olympic swimmer offered more information about the ride in 5 seconds than the reporter did the entire time? I think the whole thing could have been done better if the report hadn't been live.

Just got home from a great day at the park, I'll give a quick review, sorry no pictures. I was going to bring the camera, but the wife decided to stay at home and needed it for work.

We arrived around 1:00 PM for our third visit of the year. The parking lot was about 90% full on the main front lot, only 2-3 buses on the other side. Good Sign!!

We planned on going straight in and eating at Mooseburger, but we passed Tsunami Soaker and it was a walk-on, so we decided to hit it up real quick. What a really fun ride! You do get totally soaked! About 3/4 of the way through the ride my arm was tired from turning the pump for the spray gun. Still think this would have been better sited for the waterpark, this attraction may be open Mid-May thru Mid-Sept if weather permits and is in a prime location in the front of the park. Sure it is better than an SBNO barrels, but it will be weird with this ride just sitting there during Fright Fest and early in the season.

Mooseburger-what can I say normal six flags food, used to think it was the best in the park that has changed, see below.

After lunch we hit the waterpark till 5:00 PM, some light rain storms pased through but nothing serious shut down the slide towers for awhile and helped clear out the crowd. We watched them pull out about a 5 foot snake from the lazy river Big Kahuna was closed for some reason, never inquired why. When did it become okay to swim in full street clothes, shirt and all? I know some people have legitimate reasons to cover up, but come on people, if you're too fat to swim without a shirt, lose weight or don't go swimming.

So now for dinner, we went to the new JB's Smokehouse Sports Bar. I got the Pulled pork on Pretzel Bun. WOW! This was a really good sandwich, almost worth the $10.99 on the menu. A good amount of pulled pork, topped with cole slaw and pickles sliced the long way, served with what seemed to be a fresh cut thin french fry, almost shoestring. Really can't say enough good things about this. Still not the best BBQ around, but for theme park food, very, very, good.

After dinner I split up from my boys as I wanted to see the show at Miss Kitty's, seemed exactly like last year with maybe a song or two changed. Not too impressed.

SO I spent the next couple hours just wandering the park, mainly around Tsunami Soaker trying to meet back up with my kids as my phone battery died. I swear Six Flags seems like a black hole for killing a Cell battery. Towards the end of the night Tsunami Soaker had a couple problems with the ride not raising from the pool at the end of the cycle. This made for some very wet rides as the guns were still working with the ride stopped and still submerged.

After about 7pm seemed like most rides were walk ons or station waits. I did ride Thunder River once just to see how it looked. Seems like some maintenace/repairs have been done to some of the "rocks" during off season, but could still use a lot of TLC.

Finally met up with my boys right near closing they were able to ride all the coasters except Boss, closed early due to some more weather coming in.

Good Job Today Six Flags!

For those who haven't been to the park recently, they have refurbished some of the old Hannibarrels to use as benches next to the Tsunami Soaker. Working at 8:15am, I was able to stop by and get some pictures before my shift.

A great informational sign giving the historical context to those who never rode the original ride.

It's a nice shaded area with a few barrels, and there are still two barrels sitting in the back stage area.

Here's a closer look at the nice padded seats inside.

Also, the park has started a fun Twitter campaign to name the new ride's centerpiece.

We had a nice afternoon at HH Tuesday. Loaded up cards on meal passes and season tube rentals. Interestingly they did not issue new cards or scan our fingers. Everything looks about the same and it wasn't very busy. The wave pool was roped off at the 5' mark probably because they were short on guards.

I was really disappointed in the atmosphere of Johnny Rockets at the main park for dinner. No music playing and every minute or so a really loud commercial would run. Really ruined the experience.

Didn't make it up to Tsunami, but hope to hit it tomorrow.

I see in a park email they are offering Dragon Wing season passes. My wife and I did it back in the 90s and was hoping my oldest would be interested. I wonder if we do a single ride and he likes it if we can just upgrade to season pass ?

Oh and Guest Relations did return my call today but I missed it.

Luckily with the new system, all of the upgrades are just scanned onto the barcode, so we don't have to issue new cards for each purchase. Whenever a pass holder uses their card and finger scan to enter the park, that activates the dining/tube passes to be used for that day.

If you pay for a single flight for him, just bring that receipt to credit to your Dragon's Wing SP purchase. We have done it a couple of times before, and if there are any problems, you have my first initial and last name in my email when I gave it to you in our earlier conversation. Also, I tried taking your name/number off the log for you, but couldn't find it at the time for whatever reason....sorry about that.

With summer officially arriving for us, we took a trip up to Six Flags Thursday. We only took a couple of pictures and nothing worth sharing, so I'll just describe the day. We arrived at 10, about half an hour early and parked in just about the closest non-preferred spot. We used this to our advantage and took only what we needed, coming back to the van a couple of times to get swimsuits and such. There were quite a few school buses, but with rain in the forecast, it seems everyone else stayed away. As it turned out, it only sprinkled a bit through the morning and then was clear the rest of the day.

Season pass processing was easy. We had bought our Gold passes online, and I just showed the parking attendant the printout, and she told us where to go to get them processed. When we got to the entrance, the guy there walked us through the process, which was fairly quick and painless too.

All of that out of the way, we headed to DC Comics plaza first. Log flume was down at first, and Mr Freeze was down all day, but we got to do all the other rides in that area. My wife took the oldest two on Shazam! twice. I'm not a fan of scramblers, so it wasn't a big deal to wait with my 2 year old. She got to go on Scooby Doo next and loved it.

Brief stop at Batman, then to Tsunami Soaker. It was a great ride! I think I like it better than River Blast. The water guns come at you from all different angles. I'd like to see these at some other parks too. Water rides aren't usually compact, so this would be great for a small park.

We hit up Colossus next, then Thunder River, the carousel, and Bugs Bunny National Park before heading to the waterpark for the rest of the afternoon. This was my first chance at Bonzai Pipeline. I think I now know what it's like to be flushed. It was a really great few seconds. Hook's Lagoon is a great place too. We spent a couple of hours climbing ropes and sliding and left when the waterpark closed.

With 2 hours left, we went back to the things we had missed. Log flume was open now, and everyone loved it, even my 2 year old. Pandemonium and Boss were up next, then more Bugs Bunny until the park closed. It was a long, full day. No ride was more than a station wait, and nearly all were walk ons. It was an exhausting but very fun day.

With the news SFMM getting the next Iron Horse treatment (Colossus), I would not get your hopes up about the Boss getting IR anytime soon. They will continue to throw money at this park to keep a pulse but I can't see SF Corp ever going out of its way to give us any special treatment. If we get lucky maybe we will get a Used B&M down the road.

At some point in the future (not likely for 2015) something will probably be done to The Boss to cut down on the upkeep (rehab) costs, there is no other ride at SFSL that gets more work done to it during the off season and even in-season than The Boss.

The rumor is still out there that Scooby-Doo is done this season to be replaced by the Justice League dark ride (same rumor that was around last year), it's still a little early for the really good rumors on 2015.

Any pics of all the improvements and tsunami soaker area???

Honestly, when I was there for the season pass preview, the surrounding area was mostly the same. Although the ride does look spectacular (as well as the old Hannibarrel benches), there's still out of place facades that look ugly, and the shops on the other side are still old western themed. I guess that Tsunami Soaker has brought more life into that area, it still feels incoherent and a bit uncomplete.

My kids loved the ride and had a blast. It's fun squirting water at a complete stranger and getting away with it,

Corporate must be going for The Good The Bad and The Ugly theme.

Yeah, it seems apparent they just installed it without much consideration to the existing theming of that area.

Yeah, my 8YO put his big boy trunks on and tried the tube slides and liked it! Then the floodgates opened and he did them all except Bonzia, had to take the walk of shame on that one. Maybe he will try some coasters next time. Water parks really suck when they are not busy and your kids want to go again and again. My knees are burning.

I don't want to start any blasphemous rumors but there were two guys in white polo vendor shirts with a couple of red shirt guys that looked like park employees taking measurements all over the tube slides today. Seemed focused on the tower girders and I doubt they were measuring for drapes. Can you paint galvanized steel? Didn't have my glasses on so I couldn't tell what company they were with. Think there is any chance they are installing an elevator?

A lot of those slides have some major leaks. I realize it is a water park and they use a lot but over the course of a season that adds up, certainly more than a few tubes of caulk. The excessive leakage causes problems with the landscaping as well.

Posted

Just throwing this out there, but has anyone considered a frisbee flat ride? Like the one that just went to the Great escape? I think that that could be a big possibility for next year.

I was just wanting to see what the new area looks like around the new ride. Haven't been to the park in a long time.
