coasterguy618 Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Why do and how do coasters stall in loops or inversions? -Gaven
Twister II Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 I only know of 1, and that was Deamon at SFGAmer. The reason was because of a broken wheel axle, which just happend to stop the train on the loop.
Mr.Six Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Lets all not forget what happned on Chiller at SFGadv. How the train stalled during the roll. In that case it was simply a weight issue. A better example of it was when TTD got stuck at the top. Its a one in a million chance but it does happen. _six
robbalvey Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Don't forget about Sirocco at Walibi Belgium getting stuck upside down! That was probably the 1st coaster ever that I heard about to get stuck in a loop! Also, due to a malfunction on the train which allowed itself to get wedged in the loop. --Robb
SonOfBeastSucks Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Something to do with physics! Thats all I can tell you though.
coasterguy618 Posted October 18, 2005 Author Posted October 18, 2005 Thanks for all the info! --Gaven
benzo41190 Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Didnt a Vekoma corkscrew get stuck during a corkscrew? Also I though there was some looping coaster with t-bars that got stuck in a inversion.
CoasterFanatic Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 ... because you touch yourself at night I was soooo gonna say that. // too slow
RCoasterny Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 and let's not forget the tragic Mindbender accident.
zongaboy626 Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 boomerang at sfmw not the loop but it got stuck in the boomerang it was before they had evac stairs
Dr Freeze Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 and let's not forget the tragic Mindbender accident. what was this?
Angry_Gumball Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 The stall at SFMW was due to a non-releasing cable, which slowed the train down prior to entering the boomerang and voila! Stranded riders enjoying a boomerang section without the headbanging.
Dark Vampire Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 I can remember sirroco (now turbine) here in Walibi Belgium, I think it would be scary with no shoulder restrains:
CoasterFanatic Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 ^ Old Schwartzy would be proud. See ... you don't need OTSRs after all
Skyscraper Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 OMG ! Being suspended with only a lapbar is scary ! This is the first time i see a picture of a train with lapbar stuck in a loop. I always wondered if lapbars were really safe, I think i've got the answer now ! All coasters should be retrofitted with lapbars, no headbanging anymore !
benzo41190 Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Have you ever riddin a Zipper, High-Roller, Super Loop, Rock-O-Plane, ect........ those have lap bars and they invert! Some time you have like 3 g's against the lap bar!
zongaboy626 Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 ring of fire and high roller are comfy on the other hand the chance zipper and i think its called a orbit hurts like a BITCH!
Gnome Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 the "because you touch yourself at night" tag works for everything you don't want explain!
haydawg149 Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 I can remember sirroco (now turbine) here in Walibi Belgium, I think it would be scary with no shoulder restrains: i remember seeing that one on a tv show . . .
benzo41190 Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 it looks like the people are hanging on for life  That one guy is like hanging on to the head restraint. Instead of taking people out one by one, why dont they push the train? I mean they did it on TTD, why not in a loop?
YoshiFan Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 I was thinking the same thing looking at that picture. It seems like it would be easier to just push the train out of the loop.
rollermonkey Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 I believe it was inferred that there was a problem with the train. That could make it very difficult to push it out of the loop! Chris B
deathmole Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Didnt a Vekoma corkscrew get stuck during a corkscrew? I think that was the Corkscrew at Atlon Tower's, but it did'nt stop "on" the corkscrew, it just valleyed between them, which has probably happened a good few time's to corkscrew's.
