thrillrider
First off let me apologize for some of the pictures, as the sun was not cooperating. A quick recap of today's presentation: -Shoot the Rapids is officially confirmed to be removed and scrapped (will not be relocated) -Go-Karts and Skyscraper are also being removed. Ripcord is staying, but it's unclear if it'll be relocated from its current spot. -Chick-Fil-A is being replaced with Frontier Inn, serving chicken tenders, salads, etc. -Hurricane Hannah's is being replaced with a Coca-Cola Station -New pre-opening backstage tour of Valravn -New Ride Warriors Club that "will provide exclusive experiences thought the season" Membership is $120 and is limited to 1000 members -Coasting for Kids will not return at Cedar Fair parks. Instead, each park will find and support local charities. CP will be hosting a Give Kids the World "reunion" at the park. Most of the new additions have already been mentioned, so lets just move on to what most of you came to see....the pictures! The rest of the track for valravin is sitting in the marina lot. One things for sure...the skyline looks much differant this year. This summer, this will be transformed into a coke oasis. They are even going to have bubbles coming out of the building. There are also some new food offerings here as well. The fries are getting a makeover as well. There is also going to be more coke freestyle machines taking over the gift shop here. Sexy new paint on raptor Awesome view down the midway And now lets check out some valravin greatness! Platform to help with the chain instalation. Gift shop/photo building Top of lift Holding brake All I could think of here was rollercoaster tycoon Still have lots of track and supports awaiting erection. BigDipper 80
^They also use it for employee training during the regular season. All the orientation and safety courses are taught up there.
Apollo von Sol
Great pictures! That midway really changed with Valravn dominating the skyline. It easily takes away attention from Raptor. Are Millennium Force cars kept outside exposed to the elements during the offseason? If so, why do they do that, why not keep it on the tracks under the station in that case? They are actually in the maintenance shop for most of the off season until the yearly maintenance is done on them. After, they are usually returned to there respective coaster. There are still a few millennium force trains in the maintenance shop today being worked on. The Millennium force trains are mainly fiberglass, so they can handle weather. thrillrider
I know this is a long shot, but I may have picked up some clues on the park possibly doing a Christmas event sometime in the future. Here are a few of the hints. Thoughts? Christmas outfits in the wardrobe dept. Christmas decorations in storage but easily seen. Last, but not least is hints around the 2017 plans book. Red, green and white objects (the 3 main Christmas colors ), also, two hands with what appears to be snowballs.
Geauga Dog
I don't know if Cedar Point can successfully put on a Christmas event due to its location. We were blessed to have a warmer than usual December last year but we all know that kind of weather isn't guaranteed every year. It would be brutal walking down the midway with those bone chilling winds off the lake. Between the two Ohio parks Kings Island is better suited for such an event as it has already been proven from when they used to have Winterfest and I wouldn't mind the four hour drive to experience theirs. thrillrider
Actually, cedarpoint tried to do a Christmas event before (I believe it was in the 90's), and it failed. I think it failed because of the lack of things to do, not so much the weather. If you check out youtube, there is a video of the event. More pictures coming today. I was thinking more that it was left over from Castaway Bay, which undoubtedly has Christmas stuff in it during December and probably a mall Santa sorta thing. thrillrider
Here are the rest of the pictures I took. They are in particular order, but rather just a bunch of random shots from around the park. Enjoy..... Lookin good! Wood How long till this fresh paint will be caked with bird crap is anyones guess. There will be a 2.5 month wait till the next blue streak train will arive. A few random geek shots of valravin Some of the pictures hanging in the train house. No shows today Out of buisness Ouch.... Still painting This is where the employees pick up there work uniforms The large collosium arcade building has a lot of history. You can see some of the history here. Building methods have changed quite a bit over the years. One last look at the sweet looking valravin train.
Philrad71
Thanks for the photos, David...maybe next year we'll be able to make this event. So jealous that you guys got to see the old ballroom as that is something that I would really like to check out. While it is a shame that they can't use it for some type of guest interaction, I'm glad to see that it is still in such good condition and being used for training and such.
