P. 651: Montezooma's Revenge project terminated?

^ Even if this coaster ran 365 days in the year it still would not change the fact that it completely beats the body up. Also I would be very interested to know what woodies make that list so please... do tell!

I must say that Ghostrider does have an amazing layout, it just hurts too much to realize it, it's got ejector air and crazy moments, but you're too concentrated on not dying to really realize how awesome the layout is

Well its all opinion base but...

Grizzly "Borefest" - CGA

Son of Beast - Kings Island --Now I rode this one pre loop removal and it was rough cant sit here and say its not as rough without the loop as I havent rode it, but from the stories Ive read/heard things really havent changed much.

Mean Streak - CP --Hate to say it but I found this rougher then GR my last visit to the park

^ Best part is.. there all Cedar Fair LOL. Oh well I cant sit here and bash Cedar Fair though.

For all those who complain about Ghostrider, try riding it around the end of the year before it goes into its rehab and then try it again right after it comes back up...night and day.

^uhhh sometimes thats the case but not always. It depends on what section of track they focus on durind the rehab. Last one was Upper and Lower Beach (The Turnaround Sections) as this was smoothened out quite considerably other portions of the ride remained just as rough. However, most of the areas get some love during other rehab periods soo..

Haha... But yea I agree with you on that Ghostrider's layout is awesome. When it was in its heyday that monster would take you to Cloud 9! It's really sad to feel the new condition it's in even if the ride itself still looks like it's former glorious-self.

^^^ I second that.

I rode it in April about 2 weeks after it came out of rehab and it was amazingly smooth.

They did more than that, they completely re tracked the first drop, and one of the lateral bunny hops after the MCBR drop.

I last rode Ghostrider about 3 weeks ago, it was a little rougher than normal but nothing terrible. Also if you want a smooth ride sit in the front row of every car, that way your back isn't directly under a wheel.

Please don't play with my emotions and give me hope the Ghostrider can actually still give you a decent and survivable ride...

Just like some parks sell ponchos for the water rides, Knotts should sell fat suits for Ghostrider.

Anyone noticed how much the structure flexes too? I know wooden coasters are supposed to, but if you watch the movement of the orange lights from the parking lot, that thing looks like it's shifting a few feet. Awesome!

And I must disagree with Monte being just a "one and done" ride. Monte has stood the test of time and still kicks butt for being such a simple coaster. Returning from the front spike back into the loop gets me every time. I'm wondering if I'm the only one who thinks this way...

You are not alone! The return through the loop is so intense! I love Montezooma's Revenge, and if Xcelerator wasn't around it'd be my favorite coaster at the park.

Monte fan here too! Montezuma's got me started on my coaster craze way back when we had annual passes. It's one of the only reasons I go to Knott's, I think it provides one of the more intense experiences in the park!

Don't get me wrong, I still really like Montezooma's Revenge! It just isn't something I could ride all day. I agree that going through the loop backwards is very intense...especially sitting in the backseat.

About Ghostrider, I go back and fourth with it. Sometimes I get some really good rides, sometimes it's horrible. Because of that inconsistency, it's pretty low on my woodie list. A ride should be good most of, if not all of the time.

I like Monte...but I don't really love it like most other people, basically it's fun while it lasts, it's pretty much the same reason why I'm not a huge BTR fan, I like my rides long

Posted

Haha, Xcelerator is cool enough to be my number 3, but it gets outranked by California Screamin (2) and X2 (which is JUUUUUUUUST long enough to not be too short)

Edit: I like Xcelerator because it was the first time I felt a powerful launch and good negative force, since I rarely leave the state.

It makes you wonder how safe a lot of woodies really are...

Flexibility is what keeps a lot of structures standing during seismic disturbances. Rigidity can be catastrophic.

Posted

^ I actually never paid attention how the wood moves on Ghostrider (or any other woodie for that matter) when a train runs its course. It kinda opens up your eyes to why woodies are usually dense and structured to precision.

Posted

^Yeah, going down the exit stairs of Ghost Rider, you can see how dense the wood beams are. Also, if you watch the turnaround above the station, you can see a lot of the beams wobbling as the train goes over them.

To all of you who have gotten injured on Ghost Rider...I do not understand how you can get hurt on it. Seriously, after I ride, I just get up and I feel absolutely fine! Sure, you get a little shaken up during the ride, but I feel fine by the time the train enters the station.
