A.J. Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Anyway, as for the GIB, it's cool to see more of these things. I'm surprised other companies haven't made similar versions of it in the 10 or so years they've been out of production. Isn't the GIB still in production by Vekoma? It was my understanding that both this GIB and the one built at Jin Jiang a few yewrs back were both brand new coasters built by Vekoma. I could be wrong though. Just because they aren't being built doesn't mean that they're out of production. It took seven years (2005 > 2012) for Vekoma to build another new Boomerang. B&M hasn't built a new Sitting coaster since Led Zepplin in 2008 yet they still advertise it (Stand Up coaster too). Intamin hasn't built a prefabricated wooden coaster since T-Express (also 2008), and they're still advertising the heck out of that.
DanM64 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 ^That's what I thought, thanks for the confirmation. It's a shame more GIBs haven't been built, I really enjoy them. It seems they run rather reliably outside of Six Flags controlled parks. Hopefully if the Sochi one runs well more will be built. Since you brought it up, the world could use a LOT more Intamin pre-fabs as well .
simon8899 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Any project status on this and the Mack looper? Were this not supposed to be ready by the Winter Olympics? Only about 2 months of time left...
markysharky17 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 The Vekoma Gib is almost done. I can't find any updates on the Mack coaster.
no_brain_er Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 ^Whoa, that looks fantastic! I'm way late to the party on this one, but having been on a GIB myself (I was able to ride SFOG's Deja Vu the season before they removed it), I think they're actually a lot of fun. I'm glad to see a new one pop up. Not to mention it's purple, which happens to be the best color on the color wheel, so maybe I'm a bit biased...

This photo is 2 weeks old, so I would guess that all the track on the ride is complete by now. Source
gerstlaueringvar Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Looking great on this color! Russia finally got something great.
MayTheGForceBeWithYou Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 ^^ Looks REALLY nice. Can't wait to see footage of it running!
markysharky17 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 The gib is done. I'm not crazy about the color scheme...
MayTheGForceBeWithYou Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 ^I like the dark green quite a bit. But that purple...
3Mutts Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 ^ I don't know, it could just be the camera or the light making it worse than it really is, before you said its was dark green and purple I thought it was black and purple.
IronWolfman Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Yay for more G.I.B.s! Even if the color scheme is weird, it should be fun going of my experiences on Aftershock and Goliath.

Oh, it actually is black. I think I need to change the prescription for my contacts.
cal1br3tto Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 The gib is done. I'm not crazy about the color scheme... The colors sound okay in theory, but yeah, it looks dull. That picture doesn't do it any favors.
Aceattack52 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 ^^ Looks REALLY nice. Can't wait to see footage of it running! Hold on a minute, because this is going to have quite the issue with up time since it's a GIB, isn't it?
IronWolfman Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 ^No, the new G.I.B.s have apparently been much more reliable than the original Six Flags trio. Aftershock has been very reliable as well, since it went under a rehab from Vekoma between being at SFGAm and Silverwood. Also the fact that Silverwood seems to know how to run it.
_koppen Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 It's a dark blue shade actuality, it's a bit hard to see though. Source Source

That's good because I remember stories of how Deja Vu at SFOG was running for maybe 20 days total during a season and that was no exaggeration.

DJeXeL Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Love the color scheme. I'm glad Vekoma sold another one of these. Deja Vu was my favorite coaster at SFMM.
cfc Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I finally got to ride one of these during TPR's China Trip in 2012, and was very suprised at how good it was. Everytime I had a chance to ride one in the U.S., it broke down.
DJeXeL Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 ^According to this video, you guys broke the 1 in China too.
simon8899 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 So far we know that Russians love to build their coasters in unique colors... Hope they can still do some landscaping till opening and not simply put them into a concrete desert.
matteocrepaldi Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 That looks really great! I love the colors!
