mcjaco
Fucknuts. Â Honestly, I think we have a pretty good group of kids on the forums. Granted I've had to weed out a lot of bad apples over the past couple of years, but the forum is actually one of the few that's readable, and not full of pubescent wang slinging. robbalvey
I don't have patience for obnoxious and rude people. There are plenty of options out there for people, and if they don't like our rules, our tone, or the way we choose to run things, then I welcome people to go to another site. And they are free to bitch about us as well. I've gotten a lot of flack for how strict we can be on these forums, but you know what? I stand by my claim that it makes these forums BETTER! Â I know too many people that work in high level positions at parks, ride manufacturers and even game companies that read ONLY our forums because they say they are the only ones that are actually readable. Â And that is the best compliment I can ask for. Edited May 9, 2011 by robbalvey
robbalvey
Got this weird PM...  Hey Rob, I'm sending this reply regarding your post in Jordyt_rym thread. You guys have been doing a superb job creating this exchange, but they way you advertise it is way to agressive. If you really want quality work up here you should try to tone down a bit imho. In the RCT3 world it's very normal to upload your stuff in a place where you can reach it yourself and take it offline when you want ect. All top RCT3 creations are hosted that way, most even at only one location. It's good to have more stuff up here, but it feels like you force it TO much. It's not that you guys are doing such a bad job, but the guys who build REAL quality RCT-3 stuff already talk about how agressive and 'shitty' (just a quote from what I've heard) this place is the way it's running now. Just my two cents, no offence intended as TRP still is one of the greatest sites in terms of content.  Also, didn't find it yet, but is there also some kind of video upload ability for RCT? Most top RCT rides are POV with lots of effects and music ect. I would be thrilled if you guys could actualy offer place for those things!  JohanR91  And my response...  I really don't know what you are talking about. We aren't being aggressive at all! We only advertize our exchange on our front page, our Twitter, or our Facebook page. Please tell me where else we have been advertizing the exchange "aggressively?"  TPR is known for doing things "outside of the norm." It's what's made us a success. And like I said in that thread, if you don't want to use our tools, if you don't like the way we run our forums, there are other options out there that I would encourage you to explore. In short, we don't need people who are going to bitch and complain.  I also said in that thread that if someone wants to use an outside source to host their tracks, that's fine, but we are still going to promote our own service. Why shouldn't we? We spend a long time and a decent amount of money developing that system. We have every right to promote it within TPR.  I thank you for your input, but I feel your completely wrong when you say we've been aggressive about advertizing our exchange.  If you want to upload videos of your RCT work, you can upload them to CoasterTube and then embed them in your forum post, or add the link in the Game Exchange.  Thank you.  --Robb  So we are "shitty???" Yeah, I don't think so....
robbalvey
Actually, something else to consider - we do have a ToS rule about people who have less than 50 posts posting links to their external sites. Should we make an exception for that Jordy guy?
QueerRudie
^ Â Honestly, that sort of hurts in a way. (Johan's post, not your response) Â I know that between you (Robb) and Matt that many hours of blood, sweat and tears emerged long before the rest of us joined into the fray- and to think he'd call us "Shitty" is rather deplorable all around. Â This is (at least for me) a work and labor of a LOT of love towards something a lot of people use, talk about, and play with. I think of it as an extention of me in a way- and one that's become quite important to me. Â In short: If he's concenred that we're shitty: Perhaps HE can help come up with something so much better that it's not as 'shitty'- and until then. Â Fuck him. Â R.D. robbalvey
^ My thoughts exactly. Like I said, I don't have patience for complainers. And let's get real here, if someone like Jordy isn't going to upload his stuff to our exchange, why should we care if he posts here or not? He offers NOTHING to TPR and if anything he is just using us. Because in this scenario, he is the ONLY person who is going to benefit.  In fact, the more I think about it, I think we should at least pull the link to his personal page.  And you can site:  A. We have a ToS rule against that and the rules apply to EVERYONE, and  B. If he's not willing to at least post some stuff to our exchange, then all he's doing is leaching our users, which only benefits him. If he wants to help us out, we'll help him out. But TPR is not a charity case and I'm not going to allow someone to be above the rules.  Who wants to write something in that thread and pull his link? robbalvey
Another PM and my response: Â In this case I was refering specificaly to the posts made by mcjaco. Jordy said no, even saying to go back ontopic, yet mcjaco kept going on about the exchange upload. I think this is something that could piss off many users including myself. Also, I sometimes feel that any word said again TPR that is not positive is taken as an offence, in most cases that is more then right and I can LMAO the cool way you cope with it, but sometimes it's better to keep stuff private you know. Â If you want to develop this part of the forum, I'm all for it. The RCT-3 community has scatered since Atari forums died and it would be cool to have one place to go back to and not have to visit 10 forums to see everything, but please, please try not to get offended to easy when people have a different opinion about how things are handled. I'd love to see all the great RCT guys come here, but the climate is just not right at the moment. Â Again, this is in NO WAY meant to be harsh or anything else against you guys, for I've been following the set-up of the forum part with a lot of pleasure. Â JohanR Â I understand where you're coming from, but please understand where we are coming from. When someone comes to TPR as a brand new member, posts links to his stuff, and tell us that in no way he plans to use any of our tools, then what benefit is that to us? The way I look at it, he's using us to leech users, leech traffic, and he's not even willing to throw us a bone and post a couple of things to our exchange? Â That's not cool with me. Â I'm not asking him to post stuff exclusively, but I am asking (note - "asking" not "demanding") that if someone signs up to TPR with the sole purpose of posting links to stuff he's done, please do something for TPR in return. Â I don't think that's asking too much, and I don't think I'm being unfair. Â Do you see my position? Â --Robb
QueerRudie
I agree Robb- this is OURS, and not his promotional tool to gain more ego-trip downloads. Â I'll modify the thread- and make sure he knows why in a post. If he decides to upload here, terrific- then I'll be more lenient in the future. If not, that's his issue- and his loss. Â R.D. robbalvey
And another response....   I understand where you're coming from, but please understand where we are coming from. That's not cool with me.  I'm not asking him to post stuff exclusively, but I am asking (note - "asking" not "demanding") that if someone signs up to TPR with the sole purpose of posting links to stuff he's done, please do something for TPR in return.  I don't think that's asking too much, and I don't think I'm being unfair.  Do you see my position?  --Robb  I get your position, and IMO your right on that. Users who come here should always try to add to the forum or the exchange in some way. The problem in this case is that Jordy just likes his uploaded place a bit to much I guess.  However, I also think he is not unwilling towards this forum. Of course the change of him uploading something is rather small, but by showing of his stuff here the people have more to see and in that way he contributes to the overall quality of this place. And as you and I both know, if the quality of a forum is high, people will automatically go here instead of some other place (it's how I switched from Atari to SGW). In the end your right, it's not really fair not to use the system at all, especially when you're new here. But if some-one raises the quality by what he is posting, it shouldn't matter to much IMO. In the end, this forum and thereby exchange will profit from quality (which I already added a bit with my thread I hope)  All left to say for me is, try to keep things happy for everyone, and it wouldn't surprise me that this exchange is the biggest around within a year and now.  JohanR  TPR is about sharing. It always has been. It's why I encourage our mods to post our regular users updates to our front page, to our twitter, etc. Unlike many other sites, where they would only showcase updates and work by the people who ran the site, we make sure that if someone posts something of quality to TPR, we share it for our other users to see as well.  I don't care if Jordy has the best RCT3 stuff I've ever seen, the fact that he's unwilling to share with TPR goes against all of my philosophies of what should make a good "community."  I'm already willing to share people's RCT/NL work on our social media networks, in our magazines, and other places that I can't yet discuss. If I'm going to be willing to do that for other people, I expect those people to want to give something back to TPR.  And if we end up being aggressive towards someone, that usually means it's because they aren't playing by our rules. And when you're in someone else's house and they ask you not to smoke in the house, you don't smoke in the house, out of respect for those people.  I think I've made myself pretty clear now.  --Robb
robbalvey
I edited his original post, but I see that someone already deleted the mediafire link. here's the thing - I'm "ok" with him posting a link to download a track or a park...a DIRECT link. I'm not ok with someone posting a link to their website. Â If you still have that media fire link somewhere, I'd be ok with putting it back. QueerRudie
^ Exactly- no question at all. I tend to think of the hours of good times I've had with TPR online, and how much I've recieved FROM TPR- and I'd like to give back just as much. It's a great place because we DO share- and we as a whole make this place great. It's why I'm happy to work extra hours to redo a thread, correct a post, police the forum, and generally promote the Exchange, the forum, the chat as much as I try to- it's to give back from what I've gained so much from. Â EEEP. Sorry about that. Â You got there before I did! Â I'll see if I can back up to find it- Â R.D.
robbalvey
I will say this, though, the fact that I've had that exchange with that dude means that we are being talked about and discussed. Even if people think we are "shitty", I like knowing that other people are discussing the exchange and the forum. Â It's like that line in The Social Network between Eduardo Saverin and Sean Parker: Â Sean: "I'm sure you've read plenty about me and you've done your research." Edwardo: "Yes, I have." Sean: "You know how much I've read about you?" Edwardo: "How much?" Sean: "Nothing." Â When people hate us, or bitch about us, that means we're popular and significant enough to be bitched about. That's not a bad thing in my eyes.....
