robbalvey
I mean, I just don't know what it is with some of these kids and the lack of respect. I mean, clearly we have to be doing something "right" to be one of the biggest sites in the hobby out there, right??? Â And like, these kids have NO CONCEPT of what it's like to run, you know, actually RUN an internet business like TPR. We literally work 24/7 on this site. And when I say "we" I don't just mean Elissa and myself, I mean all the people involved who spend their time to help out. This is a labor of love for us. Anyone who has been to our house can see we aren't getting "rich" off of TPR! We do all this because we WANT to. Would these kids speak that way to Sandor of Intamin, or Dick Kinzel? No! Of course not. And those people are making serious cash in this business. If I was making the millions that Dick or Sandor are, I'd have a bit of patience for your average snot nosed punk of garbage. But we don't, and I won't. Â Some of you guys have seen first hand all the work we do at our events, on our trips, or even on this site. And I see all the dedication you guys put into it to. I'm not going to let anyone talk that way to me or any of our mods. Â They can find another site who'll put up with that shit because some other sites can't afford to tell some kid to go fuck themselves. Â /end rant..... mcjaco
I think what pisses me off more, is that *I* wasn't forcing jordy to use the Exchange, I simply stated it had all the tools available that he claimed mediafire did, which was his statement of why he didn't want to use the Exchange. Â And I really don't like some kid continually saying "Now let's get this back on topic." It's like telling me to shut my mouth, and that no one should have a say. Â Glad I'm in training all day today, my fuse if short!
robbalvey
I think I was very fair in my post in that Jordy thread. Clearly that guy was just here to leech traffic. We don't need people like that.
robbalvey
This was just posted:  Well, I just stumbled on some proof that Alvey isn't exactly a mature person, or very modest. http://www.shyguysworld.com/index.php?topic=6179.msg144247;boardseen#new BTW. That is the main RCT3 community right now. People have officially decided, Alvey is an immature self centered brat.  I'm actually going to ban that Johan guy. I do NOT appreciate people posting my private messages to another forum. That's not cool with me.
robbalvey
Here is what I put in his ban reason: Â You have been banned from Theme Park Review. Private messages are meant to be "private", not to post to another forum. If you take issue with the way Theme Park Review runs our forums, that's fine, we welcome you to go elsewhere. We don't need or want problematic members. Thank you.
robbalvey
I also sent this private message to gci2011:  If you think that posting disparaging comments on other forums is a good way to earn points on TPR, you're wrong. Those comments get seen by everyone. Think twice about what you post and use better judgment. You do not have any concept of what goes on behind the scenes at TPR and you don't have any right to make those statements. They are not appreciated by the owners or the moderators of this site, and when we are offering plenty of benefits to our members, free filming sessions, great events, etc, you should be careful not to bite the hand that feeds you.  --Robb
robbalvey
This is the part on that whole thread that irks me the most (from Johan): For those who do not notice, this guy isn't having aforum for the members, it's mostly just to make himself feel betetter. Â I'm sure you guys have probably figured out that I really do not have that much interest in the roller coaster video games, BUT, I do have a lot of interest in having a roller coaster video games forum FOR OUR MEMBERS. If I was so into it for myself, I'd be making tracks and parks all the time, putting them out there and going "LOOK AT ME!!!" But I'm not. In fact, this games forum was probably the most neglected forum on TPR up until recently, and I wanted to change that because I knew there were a lot of our members who were into it. Â IMO, getting rid of these jackasses is exactly what TPR is about. Â We don't want "lots of members" we want "quality members." Â And that's what I want to continue to strive for.... mcjaco
gci has sucked since he joined. I don't even recall johan, so that speaks volumes enough. Â Shyguy is a pretty cool guy, I may shoot him a PM to ask them to knock it off. The more sites out there, the better it is for the entire RCT community. These kids need to go out and look at the sun.
robbalvey
^ Yeah, if you want to, feel free... Â What I find kind of funny about everyone ripping on TPR's exchange is that, it was never meant to be the end-all, be-all of game exchange systems. It was meant to be an addition to TPR, and a tool that we were lacking that our users were requesting. Just like CoasterTube isn't meant to be the end-all, be-all of video sites! Â If TPR was a dedicated "Roller Coaster Videos Games Website" then I can see where they might have a valid complaint. But our exchange services the site VERY WELL, IMO, and it will do nothing but continue to grow.....and that last part is what I think most people are worried about. robbalvey
OMG...another stupid kid sending me a stupid message about stupid Jordy....  Robb, If I may be so bold to PM you about this Jordy argument. Personally, I'd rather keep this civil. I'm not accusing you of anything, nor am I instructing you to do anything. My point is simple, both sides could have done more, both sides reacted in their own, wrong ways. Now, I know I'm new, but I sure have some reputation behind me, so hear me out.  First off, allow me to say your reaction to the situation was uncalled for and unjust. Jordy is respected, and has done nothing wrong. It is either a misunderstanding on both parts (as he is a different home dialect then we are) or overreaction by a group. First off, I know there was an issue over the site Media Fire. You protest to it being Jordy's site. Here, I'll offer a link;  http://www.mediafire.com/  The site is clearly not Jordy's, it is a file hosting site much like photobucket, imageshack, or megaupload. Jordy does not gain advertisement, money or any other service from this site besides a place to upload his files. In using this service, your site gains attention because its listed as a link to Media Fire, a much more popularized site then your own. You gain, not lose, gain attention from links to other, larger sites.  Now, Jordy is not completely innocent either. See, when he first uploaded his files to another site, but was told to upload them in your exchange, he could have followed your rules and done so. Now, that seems fair, you only want a high flow exchange area. I'm going to tell you now, the area will only grow with positive influence. Had you told Jordy to upload his files there was well, I'm sure the outcome would have been much different.  Now, lets be honest Robb, the way this situation was handled was atrocious. I know for a fact a great deal of members have been banned that have in no way avoided or broken your rules. That just to be seems a little over the edge. I'd say bans in general are too extreme for the situation. Now, in my opinion, your team should have politely told Jordy to upload his stuff on your site as well. If he didn't, take down the links until the count is reached, then allow them to be placed back into the post.  Overall, isn't the idea to attract more members? Thats the basic goal. I know Shyguy's forums also offer a download section for us, but that does not mean we have to use it to be a part of the forums. My advice is take a deep breath, analyze the situation a little better and then see what could have been done differently. I know for a fact that because of your actions your being foul-mouthed right now on Shyguy's world, something I really think isn't deserved.  Liam, CS LIST staff, SGW  This is all I wrote back....  We have rules on the site that everyone agrees to when they join. That's all I'm going to say because I'm sure anything else will get posted to some other forum.
mcjaco
I'll write a post to the SGW staff (liam and Shyguy) when I get home. Although I partially agree about the mediafire argument, as I've let it slide in the past (mostly because there wasn't a good place to upload files), my argument with jordy was that his reasoning was flawed in not using the Exchange. Not the actual use of it. Â These kids take this way too seriously. Shyguy is in his late thirties too, so he gets it, and doesn't care for the drama either. robbalvey
To be honest, I kind of feel bad about the mediafire thing, because I didn't mean for that to get deleted. But it did and I have to stick by it.  here's my exchange with Liam....  We have rules on the site that everyone agrees to when they join. That's all I'm going to say because I'm sure anything else will get posted to some other forum. I intend to keep this private. I too see PMs as "private messages" not to be shared. You can say what you want, and know full well I'm not one to divulge information.  Look - Matt had an exchange with Jordy in that thread and asked him to upload some stuff to the exchange. Jordy flat out said no. He doesn't have enough posts per the site's TOS to post links...and he posted a bunch of links, not just MediaFire. I know what Mediafire is, and that's not the link that caused it to be removed, it was everything his posted added together with the links and on top of it, the attitude that he wasn't willing to lift a finger to help TPR. We work closely with a LOT of sites all the time. And many of them we have an agreement with. They'll post a bunch of photos or a video to TPR, and in exchange, they can post a link. The rule on the ToS says the following:  14. Posting Links or "Spamming" - You must have at least 50 posts if you want to create a post which sole purpose is to link to your personal website, update, YouTube video, forum or any other website. If your post count is under 50 posts and your link has not be pre-approved by an admin or moderator, your link will be removed. Please note - links to your website in your signature are acceptable.  It's worded that way on purpose so that if you DID contact me in advance, I could help that person to work something out. And all I ask is a *little* in return. Just a *little* - you know, scratch my back kind of thing.  And also, he could have put his Mediafire link in his signature!  But he did none of that, gave us attitude, and then everyone else starting giving us attitude as well. And you know how much time and patience I have for all of this? Zero. Let me tell you what I have on my plate right now - I've got a huge 200 person event this weekend in Texas, I've got three more events with more then 750 people later this summer, I've got two weeks worth of a Japan trip coming up in 6 weeks, and I've got a huge thing going on with Cedar Point and about 15 other USA parks. On top of that I have 2 games at my video games job that are both going beta at the same time. I have two coaster filming sessions coming up, and three ride manufacturers that I'm doing IAAPA videos for. I also have a family.  So you know how much time that leaves me to deal with people who can't simply follow our site rules? None.  I'm not being unfair, but I'm also not going to put up with anyone's attitude over something that could have been handled without one.  And all those people who are giving us crap on ShyGuy's site? We don't want them! Seriously. We don't want bitchy, problematic people on TPR. TPR is not about having "the most amount of members", TPR is about having "Good Members" and people who we can trust and that appreciate what we do for them.  We do a hell of a lot for our members, and it's mostly a thankless job. TPR is not a huge money maker, in fact, it's not really a money maker at all. We are lucky to bring in enough to cover the operation costs of the site and what we produce. Those people who think that we are rolling in cash due to the site are welcome to come visit our very conservative single family home, which is rented, in a suburban LA down where prices are cheaper. I can take them for a ride in my not-so-luxurious Toyota Corolla and they can visit my small cubicle at my "day job" where I have to work because TPR doesn't pay my salary.  We want 'good people' at TPR, not complainers, not people who think we are terrible people (and you know, we probably are terrible people them because I'm just not going to put up with it). And when I can have over 1,000 people in a summer doing TPR trips, events, and other activities, and they are all GOOD PEOPLE, why do I need people who are just going to complain and bitch? I don't.  --Robb  Again, I don't think I'm being unfair, and I'm just trying to make people understand where I'm coming from.  BTW - who are these people? Liam and ShyGuy? robbalvey
here is the edited version of what I sent him....and by "edited" I mean I had more to say.... Those people who think that we are rolling in cash due to the site are welcome to come visit our very conservative single family home, which is rented, in a suburban LA town where prices are cheaper. I can take them for a ride in my not-so-luxurious Toyota Corolla and they can visit my small cubicle at my "day job" where I have to work because TPR doesn't pay my salary. I want to think that we treat people VERY well that get on our good side and appreciate us, but I just have no time for people that cause drama for us. And I'll be honest, I don't treat those people very well. I'm terse with them, borderline insulting, but really, only after they've been that way with me. That guy "Krypt" was a complete dick in everything he sent me, so I finally just told him to f**k off. Sure, that probably wasn't the most professional thing for me to do, but I don't care. I don't want a guy like that on TPR, nor do I want him showing up to any TPR event and creating problems. I don't, and the parks don't want them either. The one compliment I get from the parks all the time is that "our forums are legible and we keep petty arguments out of them." As much as I appreciate our members, I think I appreciate the compliments from the parks even more. Yeah, I know our rules are a bit strict, but they have to be. You've seen other forums, you've seen parks Facebook pages - overrun with misspelled, half-written, illegible crap that sounds like a bunch of high school kids. We just have a higher standard here. And some people don't like that, but that's ok. Those people are welcome to post to other forums.  So in response to your last paragraph, the idea, at least for me, is not to attract "more members", but to attract "good members." I hope that makes sense.  Thanks for understanding....  --Robb  ps. And I had no idea that Jordy's first language wasn't English as he didn't put his location in his profile. So again, how am I supposed to know? We do actually cut some slack to people who don't speak English as their native language, but if we don't know that information....  To be honest, we probably should have kept the mediafire link (that actually wasn't deleted by me that was done by one of the mods), but the whole thing was very confusing, and his lack of wanting to even post anything to TPR in the slightest also affected that decision.  pps. Actually, this is a great example of someone who contacted me prior to posting, and asked me if it was ok to post this: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=58809  We totally work with people who are willing to abide by our rules. We're not unfair. but if you come to the site with an attitude, and demand respect that way, you're not going to last very long.
QueerRudie
What I find truly irritating about this whole big pile of steaming dog turds with extra stench is that after reading through that thread, that more than ONE of the people in there were previously banned for lying to us, or cheating. Â All but TWO of the posts were by former TPR members caught for bad behavior/failure to adhere to postings. Â I'll be running the forum boards in the background this evening as I have this stunning suspicion that a few of them with nothing better to do will be 'coming in to visit' us- and to piss in the wheaties. Â Do these kids really think they are that important that they can do what they want wherever they want to? If so, life is going to kick them squah in the nuts. robbalvey
^ I would really prefer if it you could edit out the "I don't necessarily agree with everything Robb posted" because since you post as a representative of our moderating team, saying that makes it sound like we are all not on the same page, and kind of sounds like we don't agree with each other. robbalvey
Oh, good! I get to ban another one....  Robb, while he seems like a nice guy, is a total ass. I asked him for some help regarding asking for permission to film and he was stubborn and reluctant to help me with anything. I was shocked because in the videos he seems nice but in person he seems like he doesnt care about anyone on the forum. Next time I'm going to Elissa  WTF?!?! He asked me about how we go about filming and I was honest and as helpful as I could be. Here's our exchange:  I was wondering, is it hard to get permission to film mounted POVs at BGW and Kings Dominion? I see that you were able to get on I305 a day early and got a mount of that, but there are no mounts of any other ones so me and Techno Dude were going to try and get them.  You need to get special permission and there needs to be a reason for why you're filming - like for a TV show, DVD release, etc. They won't let just anyone film. We filmed I305 because we were the production company that did their media day video for them. --Robb  Ok, thanks. Me and Techno Dude are planning a HUGE trip to every major park in the US in 2013 so it will probably be a DVD set. Doubtful anyone would buy it though...  Hey Robb, I know that you are gonna be going to BGW soon, are you going to be doing mounted POVs of their coasters? I'd like to know before I call and ask for permission so I don't have to waste my time.  They are one of the parks that don't even let me do it myself, because they have their own in-house video crew. All the footage we've gotten from BGT, BGW, or Sea World in the last 5 years or so is stuff they have given me, aside from our SheiKra footage, they let us do that, but only with a camera duct taped to my hand before the park even opened, and since then, they haven't even allowed that anymore.  --Robb  Ok, thanks for all the help Robb!  Seriously...WTF?!?! How was I stubborn and reluctant to help??? The guy emails me, and I give him a straight up response. And now I'm getting shit from this guy and calling me an ass? Fuck him. He's banned. I'm sick of helping people and only getting shit on in return. This just sucks.... Edited May 11, 2011 by robbalvey
