djjarvicious Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1354393/Storm-Surge-ghost-sightings-workmen-force-Thorpe-Park-ride.html I hate it when I'm like trying to build a kick-butt waterslide in my amustment park and these pesky Headless Monks come haunting my workers. JEEZ! Now I have to move this kick-butt waterslide to another location. FACT: Headless Monks have no money! if you can't pay, you can't play!
samisthabomb Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 They decided to relocate a ride because someone saw a ghost? That's weird. Interesting, though; thanks for sharing!
Ace Of Spades Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Merlin, your powers of making up the most ludicrous **** to ever hit the internet are almost unrivaled. They remind me of that kid we all knew in grade school, the one who made up the most grand and amazing stories ever...sure, it made them popular for a while, but how long did it go on before even the most gullible idiots out there started saying "Come on, seriously?" At least I got a laugh in this morning because of this, so I guess it's not all bad.
Popcorn54 Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 It's Just a publicity stunt. It's already been built, It's being said the original spot was a monks walk and had to be changed however no Planning permission was ever submitted. The 64ft-tall water ride, Storm Surge, was originally planned for an area known as Monk's Walk, an old footpath that has linked the ruins of nearby Chertsey Abbey to Thorpe Church since AD666. It's just trying to get people interested in a second hand Water Ride that isn't that good.
downunder Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I didn't know the Alton Towers publicity team had moved to Thorpe Park, Alton would have been proud of that one. Full marks for creativity, zero marks for credibility.

dandaman Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 ^ If they'd moved it from HRP/FSMP, every business in the Surrey area would have a hundred-year curse of hemorrhaging money.
Mike Austin Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I didn't know the Alton Towers publicity team had moved to Thorpe Park, Alton would have been proud of that one. Full marks for creativity, zero marks for credibility. Whenever a park does an extremely bad and cheesy publicity stunt, I'm just blaming it on Morwenna Angrove now!
SharkTums Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 You're also only going to be allowed to ride it once a day because it's soooooooo terrifying if you see a ghost!
Pablo237 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Lol Its a fake!! Maybe to promote an upcoming project??
socalMAN123 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Although it's pretty lame, I gotta hand it to Merlin, they put more effort into hyping small things up than anyone else in the industry that I know of! ---Brent
Wingwright Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 From the brilliant minds that brought us the "urine sample collection" publicity stunt.
Pablo237 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 After reading the part of the Roller Coaster closing because they saw ghost. I knew it was fake. But maybe they are trying to promote something like a new ride or something?? They probably wouldn't for no reason
DJeXeL Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 The Thorpe Parks/Alton Towers marketing departments are taking their jobs waaaaaay too seriously.
TPDave Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 You're also only going to be allowed to ride it once a day because it's soooooooo terrifying if you see a ghost! If only they offered some sort of insurance against ghost related injuries Dave
SoCalCoasters Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) You're also only going to be allowed to ride it once a day because it's soooooooo terrifying if you see a ghost! If only they offered some sort of insurance against ghost related injuries Dave Shhhhh! Don't give them any ideas! We don't need anymore "handing out rubber pants because this ride is so scary it makes you have accidental leaks" stunts. I'm guessing the ride isn't going to be moved; they are way too far along on construction to stop now. If they are moving it, it's most likely for some other reason and they decided to use this ghost story to cover up why. Still, really Alton? Rubber pants? really Thorpe Park? Headless Monks? After reading the part of the Roller Coaster closing because they saw ghost. I knew it was fake. I'm pretty sure that's called common sense, and It's a water slide not a coaster. TPDave Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 ^ The insurance idea was actually used for 13. Don't worry the ride isn't being moved. It's going in the same and only place it's had planning permission for. Not to mention the fact that Thorpe Park doesn't even own enough of the area by monks walk to build the ride there. But it's perfectly possible the site is an ancient burial ground. I just think that the years of quarrying it as an open pit would have uncovered that "mystery" in the '70s Dave
Fallen Heretic Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Merlin marketing really is quite special. It should be treasured. Who else could actually put this kind of thing in the news? I wonder of the marketing bods have to undergo any special tests to prove they are up to the challenge?
