ChrisCrowder Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I saw the Foo Fighters in November last year, and they were AMAZING! They opened with 'Let it Die' then went on to play 'The Pretender' which got the crowd going a lot. We got there about two hours early, so we were right at the front, only like two people in front of us, then Serj Tankian played support, and he was really good, but the crowd didn't really get going, which was a shame because i would have liked to go a bit crazy while he was on. Anyway there was about an hour wait then the Foo's came on and played a brilliant set. Like I said above they played Let it Die and The Pretender, then after that it was pretty much a blur. We went out to get a drink and when we came back in they had moved to a stage in the centre of the crowd and played some acoustic stuff which was brilliant! They did My Hero acoustic, and it was the best version of it i'd ever heard, then they played Everlong which was even better. For the first half, it was just Dave playing on his acoustic, singing with the crowd. But half way through the band had moved to the front stage, and Dave went running down a catwalk type thing through the crowd to the main stage, where they played with the full band in a pretty heavy version which got the crowd going insane. Seriously there were so many people trying to get to where I was, you jumped, but you didn't come back down, you just got stuck with your feet off the ground. It was a brilliant night, and All My Life and Best of You sound so much better live.
rollerboy Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 ^That sounds AMAZING I would love to see the Foo's live sounds like you had a great time! Â Also another good gig I went to was a band called Enter Shikari, I'm not to sure if there big in the states but I love them! It was my first gig to which made it really special Jordan.
ChrisCrowder Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 To be honest i'm not too keen about Enter Shikari, but I wouldn't mind seeing them live, apparently they are really good live. Â But the Foo's, I don't know, but they seem as if they put in more effort to make the show better. They probably don't but it just feels like they do.
rollerboy Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 ^Yeah Shikari are amazing live, they won best live band in the world, according to the Kerrang magazine but Muse fans beg to differ! Jordan.
sfotfreak Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Im so glad someone agrees with me on FOB, there are great! Especially in the mosh pit!
zeke11793 Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Sorry to post this so late.... but... Select Start seems like they would be a fun power-pop band to see live. I'm working in Florida over the summer, and I'd go to one of their shows if I got the chance. They play a lot in Florida since they're from Tampa, so I think they'd be fun if the opportunity presented itself. Â Yea I'm gonna see them again, we might even go to the same concert. We'll just have to see the dates...
Swimace Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 The Florida music scene sucks unless you go to see local bands. Most bands that tour nationally skip Florida because it's pretty much a dead end. The only show I saw last summer was The Ataris, they pulled up in some junked out van and played like four songs. I didn't know they were even touring anymore, so yeah Florida is kind of bad if you're trying to see a lot of well known bands.
BigBird Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Im so glad someone agrees with me on FOB, there are great! Especially in the mosh pit! LOLFAIL Sorry, but that made my day. Maybe even my week. Anyways, I'm seeing Mindless self Indulgence on the 7th of May at Jannus.
Janus Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Uhh.. I set up the lighting for and ran spotlight for Flyleaf and Toby Mac... does that count as actually going to a concert?
KrakenKing Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Anyways, I'm seeing Mindless self Indulgence on the 7th of May at Jannus. Â I saw them about two years ago at House of Blues. Good show... the crowd fell over a few times though, but I was in the very front, so it didn't affect me. Â I just saw Panic at the Disco with Phantom Planet, Motion City Soundtrack, and The Hush Sound. Â Good show, actually. The new versions of the old Panic songs are MUCH better.
zeke11793 Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 ^ I saw them on the 22nd at Ruth Eckerd Hall. They were all good, but I gotta say I like Panic's old stuff ALOT better than the new stuff... But Motion City Soundtrack was really good.
USCoaster Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Goldfrapp at the Warfield in SF on Saturday. Good show but not as glam as their previous shows. While this wasn't a suprise given recent interviews with Allison stating that they wouldn't be a crazy as previous shows, I think that it made the show a bit underwhelming for me. Â Next shows... Kelly Rowland at Gay Day at CGA, and George Michael at the HP Pavillion.
Swimace Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 So I can't remember if it was this thread or another, but a little while ago some of us were having a Panic! at the Disco versus Fall Out Boy debate. Now I've clearly stated my opinion of Fall Out Boy based on when I saw them live back in the fall, but this weekend I decided to go see Panic! in Atlanta. The show was at the outdoor section Masquerade, I posted a concert from the indoor section here (the first concert I posted on that page).  Anyways, I spent the day at Lake Winnie and then headed up to Atlanta for the night. I wanted to go to this show because I really liked Motion City Soundtrack, and to be honest I wasn't really huge on the other three bands playing (The Hush Sound, Phantom Planet, and Panic!). Well I opted to stay longer at Lake Winnie than I originally planned because we were having such a good time, so I missed Phantom Planet and was farther back in the crowd than I normally would be (but Lake Winnie was definitely worth it). So The Hush Sound was pretty good I guess, I didn't really know any of their stuff but they seemed to play pretty well. Motion City Soundtrack.... kind of disappointing. They were the reason I went to this show and they just didn't deliver. They weren't terrible by any means, but their vocals were way off from their recorded stuff which leads me to think that their albums may be really over-produced. So I stuck around for Panic! since I had paid the money for the ticket and I just generally enjoy live music, and they were AWESOME!!. Seriously, they were great live. Although Scaparri made a case for Fall Out Boy a couple pages back that is worth reading, from my experience seeing both bands this school year I can there is honestly no comparison in my opinion.  Anyways, for those too lazy to read here are some pictures. I went for Motion City but left really happy with Panic. The concert was outdoors and the lighting was kind of weird for the smaller sets so I didn't like any of my pictures of Motion City Soundtrack or Phantom Planet turned out. ....and here's Panic! at the Disco. They really delivered a good show, so it was fun times Overrated-thump-thump-thumpthumpthump  Oh sorry, just warming up for football season. Masquerade is about a mile down North Ave from G-Tech's football stadium Wow, so I'm going to an outdoor concert? Thankfully the rain stopped right as I was getting into downtown, but aparently it rained through The Hush Sound. I drove through a pretty sizeable thunderstorm on the way to the show, so I'm glad I ended up fairly dry at the end of th night. So yeah, I spent the day at Lake Winnie. Check out Beemerboy's TR of the day in the Donkeys forum and don't forget to voice your/my opinion by voting yellow.
socalMAN123 Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 I'm going to see M.I.A this friday! Awesome! I'm envious of you! Â ^I'm thinking about going to see all of those bands in June when they come to the Honda Center. Sounds like I should defenitly go. ---Brent
Disney Dood Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Fall Out Boy who doesn't love them! I'm sorry but FOB is a prime example of bad music.
BeemerBoy Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 ^^^ Good to see you made it down there okay, and avoided the rain. I didn't think about it that day, but the ACC was certainly well represented. Sorry to hear MCS didn't quite do it for you, but glad Panic! (love that "!" don't ya?) redeemed the evening for you. I'm not a big fan of 'em, but I'm like you, I generally love live music, and I would've stayed too and given them a chance. Â Anyway, quite a marathon day for ya. Glad you enjoyed it!
Swimace Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 ^Saturday was without a doubt awesome, we'll have to do something like that again soon  ^^I think that for the most part "bad music" is an opinion, not something that can be dictated. I've done my fair amount of critizing Fall Out Boy in this thread, but it has all been based on me seeing them live and them just straight up not being able to deliver a decent performance. I would never say "well that's just bad music", because I think that comes off as rather pretentious. Plenty of people like Fall Out Boy, and I think that a statement like that is in a way putting those people down by essentially saying they have bad taste. If you don't think they're a good band then say so and provide an argument to support why. Just my opinion...
Disney Dood Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Well first off, they're absolutely terrible live. Their music isn't really catchy, doesn't really have a message of any sort, not any good instrument playing (basically just three or four chords that follow the chorus), they compose an album within two months, and not to mention their lead singer's voice annoys me to the extent where I'd like a cat to scratch out my ears.
Swimace Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 ^I made my opinion clear in the "favorite bands" thread so I'm not going to be redundant by posting it here. Â However... Â Â I'm using a pretty cheap/busted camera right now that isn't a good as my last one (which got stolen out of my house). With that in mind, I took this video at the Panic! show. The visuals don't really look that good, but for some reason the audio turned out really well so I threw it up on YouTube. It's an acoustic version of "Time to Dance" and it'll give you a good idea to the feel of the show, especially for anyone going later in the tour. I usually don't take videos at shows because I'm hardly ever holding still enough to take one, but since I was farther back in the crowd than I usually am I decided to give it a shot... juandiego67 Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Holy $#!t! I went yesterday to Dream Theater's concert and Petrucci and Portnoy were GOD!!!!!! Â Â A-M-A-Z-I-N-G
CoastersNSich Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 I saw Josh Gracin (from American Idol season 2), now a country singer, last Thursday in Columbus, across from OSU. It was a great show, Josh has a new album out, and I got to meet him after the show! Best of all it was free, since the show was sponsored by OSU's student activity fees.
