downunder Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 March 27 (currently last night) the Smashing Pumpkins, front and centre & at a smaller (capaicity 3000) venue. Only Billy & Jimmy were from the original line up, they had a chick on bass called Ginger who was pretty hot, though the bass was bigger than her and an Asian guy called Jeff on rythym guitar. It's funny how he replaced original members with people who resemble them. The set went for 2 1/4 hours and was a bit uneven but included most of the classics - Cherub Rock, Today, Mayonnaise, Tonight, 1979, Adore, Stand Inside You Love, Everlasting Gaze etc. They kept alternating between rock and soft, though they played well. Billy was in a fun mood and joked around at times, when he came on for the encore everyone kept screaming for "Silverf***", he said to a girl behind us "I won't play Silverf***, even if you get your tits out". He was very gracious and didn't whine at all when he spoke to the audience.
Fallen Heretic Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Jeff Waynes War of the Worlds. Awesome show. Plus the girl in the Black Smoke Band is hot.
hansrubens Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 April 1 Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam Velvet Revolver Just heard that it was probably their last concert together. They kicked Scott Weiland out of the band.
Moose Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Avril Lavigne I won tickets. We went because Matt loves her, but we didn't even stay for the entire set, nevermind the encore(s).
Swimace Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Last night I saw Weatherbox, Biffy Clyro, Manchester Orchestra, and Say Anything at Masquerade in Atlanta. I have to be honest, I've been to a fair number of concerts in my day and I don't think I've ever seen a crowd that was this out of control in a long time. The show was absolutely ridiculous, especially during Manchester Orchestra's set, I thought the venue was going to get torn apart. (aka it was awesome). I have to admit I was a little surprised at how insane the crowd got because I usually don't think of Manchester Orchestra or Say Anything as really hardcore bands, but I guess they just really know how to take the energy level through the roof. Masquerade is a venue in Atlanta and it's maybe a mile/mile and a half down North Avenue from G-Tech's football stadium. Masquerade used to be an old mill or warehouse or something like that, and the venue itself is definitely pretty unique. Honestly, the place is pretty sketchy and when everybody is jumping up and down you can feel the floorboards bending underneath you since the larger music venue is on the second story (there's a sketchball night club/venue on the lower level themed to Hell). Anyways, it was a blast and here are some pictures! One thing I wish I could have gotten a picture of was when Say Anything was doing "Belt" and they got to the "what say you and all your friends..." portion of the song and all of the bands came up on stage at the same time to get the audience to rise up. During Manchester Orchestra's set the battery pack in my camera got knocked out so I don't have any pictures of Say Anything, but here's some other stuff! Manchester Orchestra. I was pretty close to the stage for them and the place was absolutely packed and crazy for them. Between Say Anything and Manchester Orchestra I haven't ever seen a crowd this out of control. The battery pack in my camera got knocked out during this segment, so no pictures of Say Anything. Biffy Clyro will rock your face off. I don't think many people in the crowd knew their stuff because they're foreign, but I knew some of their newer stuff and it's really good! These guys were intense. This is how filled up the place was by the time Weatherbox finished. By the time Manchester Orchestra came on the place was out of control, but this is between sets so the place is pretty tame at the moment. I'll admit it, I didn't know any of Weatherbox's songs. They did a really good job for the first act of a four act show, they got the crowd pretty warmed up. I got there pretty early and got a position pretty close to the stage. Downtown Atlanta, and a traffic jam. They're doing some major repaving projects, but it looked worse for the northbound traffic. p.s. the last time I was in Atlanta was the Sunday prior to this. I need to stay in Clemson and do some work!
rollerboy Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Gallows It was amazing I moshed all night, came out with a nice scar down my back and bumps and bruises everywhere! For anyone that doesnt no them check them out on youtube listen to,In the belly of a shark,Abandon ship,Just because you sleep next to me. I LOVE them!
Swimace Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 So I was in Atlanta last night and I saw Kate Nash at The Variety Playhouse in Little Five Points. The venue was pretty cool and retro, and the show was really good. I don't really go to many shows like this, but I had a great time and I was right up against the stage. It was definitly a different experience from when I saw Manchester Orchestra and Say Anything in Atlanta a couple weeks ago (to say the least), but it was really fun. The next show I'm going to is We the Kings in Columbia (SC) next week so hopefully I'll get some pictures there. Here's some pics of last night... Another picture. Fun night I was right up against the stage A picture from outside the venue while I was waiting for the doors to open (I was the fifth person inside). Kind of a random trip to Atlanta, but it was good times all around and it's good to know that not all pop music sucks nowadays
signal Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Green Day. Best seats in the house. Owners box at the saddledome in calgary (went with my friend, grandpa part owner of the flames)
silverstreak Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 last concert? hmmm, i think it was Metallica. lol! that was a long time ago.
cobra_roll06 Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Editors at the Carling Academy not too long ago. Seen them three times now and still are giving rare performances.
Swimace Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 ^I don't I saw them live in the fall and it was a train wreck. They had tons of pyro and cool special effects, and that's pretty much what they rested on for their entire performance. If you had taken away all of the fancy tricks and just put them in a mid-sized venue it would be terrible. They pretty much used their big funds to distract the audience from the quality of the music they were playing. It LOOKS like fun, but it wasn't... This was taken during fall semester
sfotfreak Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Maybe you just saw them on a bad night, was it early in their tour?
TheBannedKid Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I also saw them on the same tour and they sucked! I went to Bamboozle Left a few weeks ago. The first day was quite boring but I had a great time in the pit on the second day.
Swimace Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 ^^As far as I know they were pretty far into their tour. Pete Wentz had hurt his foot a while earlier in the tour, so I think there were a good number of stops before they came to Clemson. I'm not really familiar with that tour, so if anyone can dig up their schedule then that may be a better indicator. I honestly don't think it had to do with where they were on the tour, they just seemed to be resting too much on their huge set and cool effects. On another note though, Gym Class Heroes= Amazing live. They were one of the opening acts and they did a hip-hop cover of the Arctic Monkeys which was GREAT!! I'm a huge Arctic Monkeys fan and Gym Class Heroes definitely did them justice. Here's a pic. They blew Fall Out Boy out of the water...
sfotfreak Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I do agree that GCH where better but FOB where great and as for the schedule i cant find anything!
zeke11793 Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I saw 5 local bands last night, and it was a really good show. But my favorite band there was Select Start. They were amazing live. They were so awesome. They did an awesome cover of 'Every Time We Touch' form Cascada too! It was awesome. This is a video of the cover, at the same place the concert was last night, but a different time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5s19q2ykq98 Very awesome
Swimace Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Select Start seems like they would be a fun power-pop band to see live. I'm working in Florida over the summer, and I'd go to one of their shows if I got the chance. They play a lot in Florida since they're from Tampa, so I think they'd be fun if the opportunity presented itself.
cycamps Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 I also went to a concert last night with 5 local bands. I don't have any pics or vids, but it was an amazing concert. It ranged from acoustic rock to heavy metal. Great time overall.
Swimace Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Well final exams are coming up, which means I'm doing everything I can do not study at this point. I think this is the third show I've been to this month, I've posted pics of the others over the past two pages. Tonight I took a break from Atlanta and went to Columbia for a concert. Anyways, here was tonight... We The Kings. They've been on MTV a lot lately, and they weren't all too great live. They were solid, but couldn't really deliver great vocals live. Valencia. They were really good too and came across as a little more serious than The Cab or Sing it Loud. The Cab. They kind of sounded like Fall Out Boy, except they actually knew how to play live. They were solid, but not really my style. Charlotte Sometimes. Never heard of them, but they were AMAZING. Their lead singer had mad crazy vocal skills and they were my favorite band of the night. Sing It Loud. Never heard of them, but they were fun I guess.
Scaparri Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I saw them live in the fall and it was a train wreck. They had tons of pyro and cool special effects, and that's pretty much what they rested on for their entire performance. If you had taken away all of the fancy tricks and just put them in a mid-sized venue it would be terrible. They pretty much use their big funds to distract the audience from the quality of the music they were playing. Yeah, I have two sides to this. They opened for Less Than Jake at a show I saw in November 2003. The crowd was into it, but honestly, they were the worst band I had ever seen live in my life. They were constantly swinging their guitars in loops and jumping off the walls, but were completely oblivious to the fact that they sounded like excrement. It was awful. Fast forward two years later, when I'm flipping through the channels and saw them in a music video on TRL. I crapped a hammer. How did these no talent ass clowns make it to the big-time? Fast forward two years later to this past summer. My girlfriend at the time loved FOB and really wanted to go see them, so, even though I couldn't really stand them (music is fine, but the '03 show ruined my opinion of them), I bought us two tickets to see them in Chicago. Honestly, the show was unbelievable. As mentioned, the pyro and all the effects were pretty freakin' sweet, but they actually sounded awesome. It made their studio stuff sound bad. I was fairly blown away by the 180 they pulled during the time between the concerts I went to. So, while the summer show I saw was awesome, it doesn't surprise me at all that they were bad during the show you saw in Clemson. Given the wide mix of reviews I've heard, they seem to be a hit-or-miss concert.
Swimace Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 ^That doesn't surprise me, I've heard a really mixed batch of reviews for their shows. I honestly just felt like they weren't even really trying when I saw them, like it was just Pete Wentz prancing around on stage expecting that the audience would love him no matter what. At least they can play some good shows, but being consistent would be nice seeing as how their tickets aren't too cheap. ....oh, and Fall Out Boy has no business coming near a Less Than Jake show.
Scaparri Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 ^ Yeah, it doesn't quite seem right, does it? That was back when FOB was signed to Fueled by Ramen, which was co-founded and co-owned (at the time) by LTJ's drummer, Vinnie Fiorello. So, they had Punchline and FOB opening. It's so crazy to think that I was at an LTJ show where FOB was the opening act.
socalMAN123 Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 It was amazing I moshed all night came how with a nice scar down my back and bumps and bruises everywhere! Now that's the kind of stuff I like to hear! ---Brent
Swimace Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 ^^Huh, well I guess you learn something new everyday. ^I got kicked really hard in the knee at a concert earlier this year by some people who were moshing. Since Clemson athletes get free medical care, I went into our training room and told them that I hurt it while working out and so they took me out of some running workouts. It was friggin sweet... Oh, here's a youtube channel that some girls I met at the last show I went to have. They put up a bunch of stuff from the last show, it's worth checking out if you get the chance: http://www.youtube.com/lesantig
