Love how the lamebrained TV news "reporter" throws in a rather misplaced reference to a song by the Who at the end of the story. They're lucky that no one was seriously hurt.

We saw something similar happen on the wave swinger @ CGA...

Looks like the middle part that is supposed to be raised up went back to the "home position," but gravity kept the chairs swinging.

I seen another report where the workers were tinkering with it before the ride started. Glad no one was seriously hurt.

It seems to me just by watching the video that all the injuries could have been avoided if people just let it take its course. Who knows though, maybe the guy getting hit by the ride cause he ran into it was the only thing that would have stopped it..

According to the video, the people running towards it were "parents trying to get their children off". Trying to jump in front of a moving ride to get a child off is only going to hurt both of you, if not others. How about the next time you and your child get out of the car you both try a tuck-and-roll at 20 mph.

Besides the CGA video TPR did years ago, is there any other footage of CGA's swings going bug nuts? I know that normally when the ride comes to an end, the swings sometimes bump into each other, especially if they're empty.

Is there any video of the CGA incident?

This ride & the one at CGA/KD etc. are two different models from two different companies & from the looks of it the ride in question looks like a smaller version of the starflyer, which uses cables to haul the "carousel" portion of the ride up while the more typical models such as CGA's or KD's use a hydraulic system.

It looks like there was some of the perimeter fence was in the ride area, the reason why people, aka the manager who was injured, were running into the still running ride area and the ride was e-stopped (the center tower "dropping suddenly" and immediately slowing down), but that's just speculation based on the shaky clip. Watch the slow mo of the clip starting around the 0:22 mark (but ignore the newscaster) and watch the guy in the white shirt run to the left and you can see the fence fly up under the rider's path when the manager gets hit and goes down and the guy in the white shirt pull the fence away at around 0:37 (again, completely ignore the newscaster).

You're right. I read an article stating riders were hitting the fence, which is what caused the ensuing chaos.
