downunder Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Every time I see "new invert for Mirabilandia in 2010" on Screamscape, I get excited and then I realise it's not the Italian one, which I am going to. Deja Vu is okay, I really like the hang on the vertical drop, that was nice.
larrygator Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 The relocated one in Silverwood seems to run with no problems.
themeparkologist Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 There are two Mirabilandas? Are they owned by the same company or is it just an uber-generic name? Elissa, are you being sarcastic or is that really the reason SFMM still has it? It would seem that there is another reason behind it but they wouldn't tell us. I don't know, sometimes I'm absolutely clueless.
downunder Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 ^There are two, the Brazillian one was purchased by the Italian one in 2002 and renamed Mirabilandia. The Italian one looks good with iSpeed and Katun.
SharkTums Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Elissa, are you being sarcastic or is that really the reason SFMM still has it? It would seem that there is another reason behind it but they wouldn't tell us. I don't know, sometimes I'm absolutely clueless. I'm being totally truthful, that's what we've been told several times.
tanthonyam Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Well the other reason SFMM is keeping it , is probably because they want to have a high coaster count (competing with Cedar Point). It is also very popular. Parks tend to keep rides with that are popular with the GP.
AWill961 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I've never been able to ride Deja Vu with less than a 2 hour wait,I like the ride itself but can't deal with the line always being long. I've only waited one time for this ride. Every other time I ride it, I ride it first for the day to avoid lines and to be able to select which row I want. I like row 16.
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Finally, some news on this Deja vu. Even though they're rough, the GIBs are still fun and definitely apart of coaster history, and I'm glad they aren't being scrapped.
Guest Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 I'm also happy to see that a GIB has a new home. SFOG's Deja was my favorite ride in the park when I rode it (prior to Goliath being there) even with the low capacity. I really enjoyed standing beneath it and marveling at the engineering required on the two spikes with their catch cars, even if it didn't always work out the way it was planned. I think Vekoma should revisit the GIB's with a better seating design (why not place some of the two-face cars on there?) and LIM's replacing the second tower's catch car. While I'm just a casual observer, it wouldn't seem that the initial cable lift up would be a complicated mechanism. The second tower's mechanical attempt to match the train's speed really just was a bad idea from the very start. When I rode SFOG's ride the train overshot the car by a small distance and fell backwards with a pretty serious "ca-CHUNK" noise that shook the tower and surely wreaked havoc on that cable. If there were simply some booster LIM's ala Mr. Freeze I think the rides would be amazing even if they lost a little bit of the suspense created by the slow second lift up. I don't expect any other park to give these another chance unfortunately.
austinlee Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 ^ A better seating design would be great. Those staggered seats cause a lot of loading problems for people who want to sit right next to each other and also for people who are sitting in the outer rows and have to walk all the way around the train because they can't walk through the inner rows after people have sat there. Unfortunately this talk is all academic anyway. I don't expect any parks to give the GIB's another chance either.
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 ^I agree. The main problem with the GIB seating design is that, and the fact that the seats in the center are very squished. With that huge metal plate in front of the center seats, it makes it hard for people like me with long legs to kick your feet out and it makes you feel pretty cramped. That's why I always sit on the outside whenever I'm not in the front of any GIB. I know that the staggerd seating was meant to make the train more compact, but it just makes riding more complicated. The steel plate right next to this seat makes it harder for the people in the center seats behind you to kick out their feet while riding. The ride would be better IMO if those plates were removed or positioned slightly further back.
austinlee Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 ^ Yes, it is cramped. Whenever I sit in the inner rows my feet bang into that metal plate. It doesn't hurt but it is something that I think should have been solved while the trains were being designed.
KDCOASTERFAN Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 ^Obviously I can't speak for Six Flags, but as a regular guest of SFGAm (and former Deja Vu rider) I can see why they were removed. The technical/maintenance problems were bad, but not the only problems with that coaster. I think the biggest problem was LOW capacity. 300 riders per hour was normal. Deja had a horrible reputation for having a long, slow line. And that is not the impression six flags wants to give their guests. I'm really not sure why Magic Mountain has kept theirs. Simple, for the senseless coaster count.
CorkscrewFoley Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Speaking of GIBs, how is Aftershock doing over at Silverwood?
XFX Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Check it out the name and logo for the new GIB. They will keep the same colours, just give and fresh coat of paint. Thats official from the park. Any thoughts? What do you think about starting an international petition for a descent name?
robbalvey Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Really? Sky Mountain? Does that translate into something more thrilling that we aren't understanding? Sky Mountain sounds like a ski resort! --Robb
DBru Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 ^Haha, agreed! Or maybe a soft drink brand. A bit off subject, but does anyone here ever drink Ski?
Steelinwood Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 This park really seems to need this coaster, since two of their others are kiddie coasters. It will be a great addition to the 2 other coasters they have, it'll almost balance the park out. But what this park really needs is a nice wooden coaster!
robbalvey Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 the worst name ever! LOL! I love it! What other products is this logo more fitting for OTHER than a roller coaster?
Steelinwood Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I don't see why they won't switch the blue to yellow, it fits the logo better! ^I don't like the name either!
rehbein Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 (edited) deja vu - ok stunt fall - ok aftershock - ok sky mountain - fail Edited April 29, 2010 by rehbein
