PhishyBrewer Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Ted and I enjoyed some good brews this weekend at Solace. I'll post pictures soon. There probably not up to Derek standards though.
DerekRx Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Since it was in the upper 70s today (yes, its March, and yes, I'm still in Pennsylvania) I decided to wash my car after work and then break out a refreshing summery beer. Thanks to Shangy's, I picked up a variety of Pyramid to prepare myself for next week, and decided to bless my tastebuds with their new Amber Weizen Ale. Yes, quite refreshing. I can't wait for the summer to actually come so I can break out more good wheat beers and lemons! mmmm, amber and unfiltered wheat.
PhishyBrewer Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Let's just say... that during Solace this past weekend... Ted became my hero. My favorote beer of all time... Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold And my second favorite beer... Victory's Hop Devil I'd like to thank Robb for giving us weapons while we drink.
Canadmos Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I had these two last night, both were pretty tasty.
DerekRx Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Today I tried the Pyramid Apricot Weizen. I've had some beers with a hint of apricot before, but outside of the Lambics, this one is very apricotty. Definitely a good summertime brew! All I need is a slice of apricot on the glass and summer weather again and we're set for mowing the grass! Pyramid's next weizen, the Apricot
DerekRx Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Winter is unfortunately still here, so I decided instead of trying the Pyramid HefeWeizen, I'd go with their Winter warmer, Snow Cap (plus I have no lemons, only oranges). Snow Cap is a very good winter brew, with a hinting of spices and a nice finish. Better than the Lancaster Winter Warmer, I think. I know not to eat the yellow snow, but the brown snow is pretty tasty! Quick! Drink it before it melts
Rugged One Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Since Derek has been profiling some tasty Pyramid selections, here's one other I tried tonight. The Pyramid ThunderHead IPA. My god, this thing is hoppy. Definitely one of the stronger hop bites I've recently experienced from a regular IPA. I should have some pics up tomorrow night from my first PTR of a DuClaw beer release party. The Celtic Fury Irish Stout! The Pyramid ThunderHead IPA. Just like it's namesake coaster, it's smooth but crazy.
DerekRx Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Since I'm done working for the week and have nothing planned for the evening, I decided it was time to break out the pint of Sly Fox's Route 113 India Pale Ale that I picked up on the beertrek a few weeks ago. I have mixed feelings about the beer, its more like HopBack with a little more hops, but is overshadowed with citrusiness and levels out very quickly. Unlike most IPAs, my taste buds aren't hopped out after drinking it. Still a great beer, better than Barley Creek's SuperHops Smells hoppy and citrusy, but the citrus kills off the hoppiness soon after. Its good, but no HopDevil Unlike other Sly Fox brews, this one is in a bottle. A GIANT bottle! Hooray for nothing to do!
PhishyBrewer Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 In an attempt to get ahead of Derek, Mike(Memphish) and I started St Pat's a little early at Brew It Up. We had the Ladder #2 Ale and then the Ladder Lager. Then headed over to Streets of London for Harp on draft. I think Derek it still ahead by a keg.
Rugged One Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 With the night off from work, Kim and I headed down to the DuClaw Brewing Co. in Baltimore, MD for this months beer release party. The Celtic Fury Irish Stout. I have to work tonight, so yesterday was pretty much my St. Patricks Day. As a matter fact I picked up a growler of it to enjoy this weekend. Have a safe and happy St. Patricks Day everyone and thanks for reading. Finally it was time to try the Celtic Fury. And it was a rather good Irish Stout. ....with a coupon for $5 off the t-shirt. Which I of course had to get. Picked up my free glass.... Kim shows off her Kiss Me I'm Drunk button. Actually, I should have been wearing this. Let the Celtic Fury flow! Release video time. This one was dedicated to all things Irish. It was OK. They've done better and funnier ones though. Then they show a preview for next month's release. These are usually more entertaining than the actual release video. Next month is the Snake Oil Imperial Pils. Finally it was time for the beer release. For a few minutes before the release, they always play some snippets of trivia pertaining to this month's selection. In this case, the Irish and stouts. And the Misfit Red Amber Ale. Couple more. The Bad Moon Porter. Probably my second favorite of their staple beers. With my baby, the Naked Fish Chocolate Raspberry Stout. Yum. Mmmmm, pretzels and wings. Perfect bar food. Kim had the Kangeroo Love light lager. Aaahhh, the Venom Pale Ale. What I always start out with. This is an excellent pale ale. Nicely balanced and very hoppy. I love it! Hmmm, what to try first. Which of course had the 8 rules of Pint Club. The only one I don't agree with is #5. I've double fisted pints at this place lots of times. I got my courtesy take home Pint Club glass. I had just signed up for DuClaw's frequent drinkers club, The Pint Club, last weekend so it was time to activate my membership. The Fells Point location is our favorite of the four, as not only is it in a really kicking part of town but definitely has the best bar setup with the bar in the middle and the seating around it. When you first walk in, there is one simple rule you must follow. Although I would find out later there are more. Home to the Fells Point branch of the DuClaw Brewing Co. Welcome to the sunny Bond St. Wharf in Fells Point.
Hattuchili Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 Yesterday at Disney Downtown, I had my first beer in the US, a Budwiser! --Soren
PhishyBrewer Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 So... since yesterday was St Patty's day I had a few beers. Trying to keep up with Derek. First I had a Boddingtons at O'Maley's in Old Sacramento. Then I meet the hot news chick from channel 3 news. It was the HIGLIGHT of my day to meet Deirdre Fitzpatrick. #1 on my MILF list. After Deirdre left I was sad. So I has a local Pyramid Hefe. Then I headed to Fanny Anne's and had a Sierra Nevada IPA. Also had a Jiffy burger while I was there. Yes... that it peanut butter on my burger. And it taste AWESOME!!! Then it was off to the Budweiser brewery where I had a Amber Bock with a shoot of SPIKES Chocolate. Then of course... I had to have a fresh Budweiser. Then for lunch it was a Blonde Ale at the Blue Frog. The corned beef and cabbage was pretty good at the Blue Frog. Mike and I enjoy a round at Marine World. With these kind of prices you can only enjoy one round. The last beer of the night was the Drop Top Ale at Red Robin. So... Derek is probably still a keg ahead of me. Put he hasn't posted anything yet. We will see.
Rugged One Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Dude, you have got to be kidding me. Peanut butter and burgers? Those are like my two favorite things and never once have I thought of putting them together. Until now.
PhishyBrewer Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 ^The Jiffy Burger effing rocks!!! Something about the taste of bacon and beef when it comes together with peanut butter. Down in the Delta on the Sacramento River there is this hole in the bar called Aldawhops(SP). And they serve peppers with peanut butter. There effing great!
PhishyBrewer Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Ok... I don't want to sound gay or anything, but... Derek hasn't posted anything in a couple days. I hope he's alright.
CoasterCrazy Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 ^He hasn't posted anything in the last couple of days because he is in Florida.
PhishyBrewer Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 ^I was thinking that's where he was at, but I didn't see his face in any of the photos. Good to know he's ok.
DerekRx Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Yup, I was in Florida since St. Patty's Day, and sadly I was a little off on Friday, so no beer for me that day. I would have had one at Emerils, but nothing sounded good. I did have a few over the weekend though. Soon its off to NorCal and some new brews! I finished off my weekend in Orlando with a margarita Dave was happy to have a drink at lunch. Erik was just naturally drunk Tom had a "License to Chill" margarita. He thought he was James Bond. He isn't Robb had a fruity lemonade. There wasn't any alcohol in it, but it didn't change Robb's thought that there was and it would explain his craziness Elissa was just happy to be able to contribute to the thread! Then on Sunday I had a Lone Palm Ale at Margaritaville. It was kinda weak, not much different than Killians I enjoyed it dearly By Saturday's dinner at Ohana I was desperate for a beer. Luckily they had Sam Adams on top of some of the other "beers"
PhishyBrewer Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 ^Yeah!!! Derek is alive! Erik's a drunk huh? I thought he was just a dork. Just kidding Erik. Atleast he didn't wear his Miller shirt.
memphish Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Back at home and slagging through a database project. I took one for the team and knocked back the Alaskan ale that broke err leaked in my suitcase on the ride home from Cali. No worries, it wasn't much maybe a half ounce at the most, it it was contained in the bubble wrap. I did suck at life and left it in the freezer last night. Oh well, its not terrible in present condition, but I'll reserve judgement for a fresh bottle that hasn't been abused. I'm also compiling a list as I type my TR's of the different beers I had over the weekend. As of my Thursday (3/16) tr: Sam Adams Heineken Brew It Up Ladder #2 Brew It Up Orange Blonde Blossom -insert beer from pub downtown here- (Will find out what it is later) Dortmunder Hefe
memphish Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I need a little more California love to get me through this Database project. *The selftimer doesn't think that the 10 seconds before it takes the photo would be a great time to actually focus so don't hate. The background is crystal clear yo!
memphish Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Went and took my friend Wayne his box of goodies from BevMo and got to sample these: He was more than pleased to say the least, and it seems we're now planning a run to Nashville for more Delerium. This could be trouble.
