DerekRx
Wow, the beer thread is becoming a very popular place for our UK peoples. Welcome to the pub, friend. Tonight I was fortunate enough to get a Longshot Boysenberry Wheat from Sam Adams homebrewers contest. Thanks Adam! He warned me that it smelled really good, but didn't taste that way. I found it to be very much what it was advertised as, very boysenberryish both in smell and in taste. Tasted kinda like Knott's Berry Punch mixed with a hefeweizen. I kinda liked it, but I wouldn't drink a whole lot of them. Very fruity and not too shabby (the beer, not me) Boysenberry Wheat, homebrewed by some dude in Colorado
Rugged One
Still pretty darn cold today. No better way to get warmed up than with a nice Imperial Stout. In this case the Dragonslayer from Middle Ages Brewing in Syracuse, NY. It's no Derekslayer but is still a pretty servicable Imperial Stout. Decent Imperial. Nice roasty chocolate and fruits upfront. It had a fairly thin body however but masked it's almost 10% abv pretty darn well.

Juggler
DRAGONSLAYER STOUT!!! I want some, even if it just for the cool name and funky bottle. (Prods Nodders the Welsh Git) I reckon we've just found your perfect beer!

Juggler
Not back in work now till the weekend so I decided to have a Ruby and a few beers whilst watching the footie on the TV. Wandered down the local off licence and picked up Holts "Maplemoon", Moorhouses "Pendle Witches Brew", Marstons "Owd Roger" and finally Robinsons "Old Tom." Now the Owd Roger was nothing new to me but the other three were ones I had yet to try. Is that an Old Tom or are you just pleased to see me? The final ale of the evening is Old Tom coming in at 8.5% and a classic dark ale. A lovely rich fruity taste with an almost Port like aftertatste. YUMMY! Another new one to the palette next, Pendle Witches Brew at 5.1%. Another light ale with bags of flavour and a nice malty aftertaste. Start with the lowest ABV so first up the Maplemoon at 4.8%. A nice light ale with a very subtle hint of Maple. The evenings selection.
Nodders
You really crease me up, Juggler! (And that's just your face!!) Thought I'd join you for a quick beer, but as it's a long way from here to your place, this seems like a good place ..... *DAM*, I needed this! A theme seems to be emerging here ..... Tonight's tipple.

DerekRx
Just a brief little taste of what tomorrow's update from Heath will deliver, from my perspective... ...for the tastiest DuClaw release of the year, Naked Fish Chocolate Raspberry Stout. Amazing stuff! More tomorrow Kim enjoys some nachos during happy hour while we wait First up for me, some Serum Double IPA, released last month. Previously known as the Derekslayer, no longer the case We're back at DuClaw in Fells Point

mcjaco
OK, I'm a slug. I think I told Derek last week I took pictures to prove I went to New Belgium. I'm a little slow... Two Hearted Ale. Bite me Chicago Distributors, I'll go across state lines! Well, looky here.... The Wife enjoys a Lake Front Cream City. Kept the comments to yourself. She's heard them already. New Belgium Swag!!! Nodders
Here's the last of my trio of "themed" ales, an old favourite of mine (Juggler & Mr Pete also) Well's Bombardier. Lovely! At 5.2% ABV, it certainly packs a punch. A full bodied, fruity beer ... mmmmm!
Rugged One
Last nights invasion of DuClaw by Team Extreme... See what I mean! Until next time. Thanks for reading. ...and then finally attacked the Naked Fish right out of Roger's (Kim's co-worker who had shown up for a drink) hand! He was Naked Fish crazed! ...but then grabbed mine and started making fish faces... Dont' even get me started though on the craziness that happened when this sweet nectar touched Derek's lips. First he was OK with just his... It was pretty freaking awesome too! Dave, if you and Mary can make it this month, definitely go for it! For dinner, I had the release special. Beef tenderloin and beef short rib braised in Naked Fish Stout. Ah, there's my baby. It's been way too long. And I say "Show me your fins! Show me your fins!" Derek says "Drink Naked!" Luckily there were no "3rd Nip" sightings. Allright, Naked Fish is now on tap. ...they used footage from the Family Guy spoof episode where Peter gets to visit the Pawtucket Patriot Brewery. The release video was pretty good. Of course since the theme of the release was "If Willy Wonka Brewed a Beer"... Next months it's time to get pissed, with the Celtic Fury Irish Stout! ....and everyone's favorite. Six Degrees of Naked Fish! ...fish... ...chocolate raspberries... ...raspberries... Trivia time. Of course it had to everything with chocolate... ...and a Venom for Derek. Next we reverse things. Some Derekslayer for me... Derek likes that cuz now he can get this rather weak ass beer credit without actually having to pay for it. Kim surprises us two releases in a row now and get's a beer. The Misfit Red to be exact. Of course we need some happy hour appetizers, consisting of nachos, wings, and Derekfingers. Derek has to be a rebel though and instead first go for some Derekslayer! Yes the name sticks, no matter what happened last time. ;P Let's not waste any time and get right into some Venom! ...actually it's the best fish smell of all! Chocolate and raspberries! Mmmmm... Time for this month's DuClaw release but something smells awefully fishy down on the Bond Street Wharf tonight. Don't worry though, we promise it's a good fish smell .... Juggler
Laughs out loud at the above antics. So you didn't enjoy yourselves at all then? Well in just over a week the BlueBuzzards are invading the Oakwood Beer Festival with the express aim of going beyond the 113 halves of ale and 1 half of cider we got through last year. Between us we actually managed to taste over 100 beers in a little over 7 hours. We'll put a few piccies up here but the rest we'll stick on our own webspace (best not go to made on TPR ) Damn it. No beer left!
Rugged One
^ Oh we allways have loads of fun at these release parties. Can't wait to see the pics from a UK beer festival. mcjaco
I will make it out to PA if it kills me. I must partake in this silliness!
FlyerACE1
So, tonight we got an unexpected visit (ok, well, not unexpected) from Derek to kick off our weekend trip to Boston for the Extreme Beer Festival. Of course, we had to bring the BACT-X Captain to a Jersey brewpub (the best in central Jersey...big deal) along with Mark and Amanda. Here are some photos from our visit. We LOVE Naked Fish...thanks Derek! The sexy couple prepare to get naked...with some chocolate and raspberry beery goodness. Back at the house, I start the great pour of a wonderful birthday gift by Derek- a growler of DuClaw's Naked Fish. Kick ass!! The Joisey brothers get ready to chow down on their giant Buffalo meat 24 oz. burritos. Next up for Derek, the Avenel Amber. I enjoy this one, Derek seemed to be fairly fond of it. Behind that pint glass is Derek's amazing beer counter, adding some beer credits. Here's the menu. Mark took this creative shot of me with a menu and my Great Scot Scottish Ale. Not to be outdone, Ellen gets her usual- Raspberry Wheat. Always hamming it up for the camera, Mark enjoys the Coaltrain Porter and Amanda goes dessert first with the Raspberry Wheat. Derek starts off with the Bitting's Best Bitter, their ESB. Seems like he likes it. Mark and Derek are bringing sexy back outside J.J. Bitting in Woodbridge while Amanda wonders, "did I marry that?" Derek loves Naked Fish too but realizes this is the least amount of beer he's drank in 3 days.
65skylark
As I'm sitting at my computer, eating my fish and chips, and drinking beer, I decided I'd actually take a picture or two for a change sense I was drinking something new. Not too bad. I'd put it about on par with Fat Tire. Bottoms up! Cinder Cone Red Ale form Deschutes Brewery in Bend OR.
Meteornotes
OK, cleared by the doctor to drink again yesterday meant that today was the day to go to DuClaw's and check out the Naked Fish Chocolate Raspberry Stout. AND IT WAS GODLY! Seriously one of the best beers I've ever had. We are already planning another trip there before the month is over to sample more, though I think we'll go to the Fells Point location this time, as the parking at Arundul Mills was insane. I have no idea why that mall is that popular... dt
Nodders
Well, I had a night off the beer yesterday. Tonight I'm having a Theakston's XB. (6 days until the Buzzards hit the Rotherham beer festival!) Masham's little secret! Ruby coloured, richly flavoured, full-bodied with a deliciously complex hop aroma. Nodders
No one else thirsty, then? I know this one came up recently courtesy of Mr Pete, but tonight I'm having bottle of Courage Director's Ale. A classic, strong English ale! Now there's something to put you off your beer! Originally brewed exclusively for the directors of the brewery. Ruby tinged with a rich & fruity flavour.
DerekRx
Well, we all survived the weekend up in Boston for the Extreme Beer Festival. Plenty of pictures from the event and other activities up there coming in the next couple of days. Up first, the drive to Massachusetts, with a stop at a liquor store up there, and then dinner at a friend's restaurant. Major thanks to Matt for putting up with us on a Friday night. The food, the friends, the atmosphere, and the alcohol all were perfect! and then for a few more hours we hung around and drank more martinis like the warm apple pie martini made with warm apple cider, caramel, cinnamon, and sugar and it was very Belgiany and for dessert, Matt recommended Three Philosophers from Ommegang While I had a chicken breast with sweet potatoes with a nice sauce. Great stuff! For dinner, Adam and Ellen both got hanger steak and Ellen went with another martini Adam is in heaven with his Allagash Witte Meanwhile Adam and Ellen enjoyed a mound of Yukon Gold nachos My appetizer was calamari in a graham cracker coating with Frank's Red Hot Aioli Really hoppy for an irish red ale Next up for me, a local beer, the Hibernian from Harpoon Ellen pretty much tried every kind of martini Matt could make For Ellen, Matt was all ready to Martini Ah, HopDevil, a nice welcoming At Matt's Restaurant called Parlor he greeted us with some beers he doesn't normally carry but got them for us Good thing we packed lite and I was excited over the singles, mixed six packs, as well as the stuff they don't distribute in PA, like Pizza Port, Alesmith, and Founders Ellen was extremely excited over the variety of lambic ales With some time before dinner, we stopped off at Julio's Liquor, which is like a Wal-mart of alcohol
DerekRx
Saturday was the whole reason for the trip to Boston, home of the 4th Annual Extreme Beer Festival sponsored by Beeradvocate. Lots of well known and local microbreweries show up every year, and always bring the highest alcohol content stuff with them, stuff that you normally cannot find unless you actually go to the brewpubs. This year was no exception and we were all pretty psyched to try as much as possible. We all did really well, getting not only most of what we wanted, but some other stuff too. Some beers were great, some were ok, some were really bad. In all, we sampled over 50 different types of beer all above 7%abv and still managed to do more afterwards! and Heath and I could enjoy some Festina Peche and Red and White Then it was back to Dogfish so Ellen could enjoy some more Sam and Heath was equally confused by the 17% The most unwiney barleywine I think I ever had A barleywine and some unknown 17% beer that the brewer didn't even know what style it was!? Up next, time to see what Wally is brewing up Soon thereafter, Heath and I made our way over to Pizza Port. While there was no Hop 15 yet, we did enjoy En Garde and Older Viscosity But one of the worst beers was Blood of 1000 Corpes by The Tap. Cool name, but ick, beet beer tastes like beets! One really hoptastic IPA I found was the Smuttynose Bigger A IPA. Good stuff This ain't a scene, it's a goddam arms race, or just a bunch of drunks craving more There was food there too to help us not get too drunk. I enjoyed a Belgian waffle (complete with sugar coating) to soak up some alcohol Even Kim won't pass up a shot at some Derek Ellen is super excited to have some Derek in her mouth Heath doesn't waste time in enjoying some Derek either I must say, I taste pretty good! Don't believe me, check out the bottle! Somewhere down the line I was able to finally enjoy myself, the Newport Storm Cyclone Series: Derek stout Ellen and I finally got to try the Red and White from DFH, a Belgian Right next to Sixpoint was the most popular spot, Dogfish Head, with Headbrewer Sam actually there pouring It was pretty good, but in no way was it Founder's Kentucky Breakfast After a few more Founder's goods, we made our way over to Sixpoint for some of the very last keg of Bolshoi, their Imperial Stout First beer of the festival, the Kentucky Breakfast Stout, a Top 5 beer in the world. Loaded with coffee and bourbon goodness Our first stop was Founder's from Michigan, which they don't distribute out our way Here's the home of the Extreme Beer Festival, the Cyclorama (which sounds more like a Coney Island ACE event) We got a hotel right in downtown so we wouldn't have too far to walk in case we were drunk; here's the view
