An example of horrible parenting skills

I did once when some parents started getting violent towards me.

Did they hit you?

No but they were making threats towards me and another guest in line. Plus the parents had 3 of their friends and one of them tried climbing over the fence to get me.

It was funny though because when security came up and escorted them out of the building the whole line (Which had built up to about an hour wait) started cheering when they were getting taken out. Later in the day a few guests congratulated me for not giving in to them.

I have a question for Elissa (or Robb, whoever answers first). In regards to KT and riding, is this something she likes to do, or is it a try it once and you don't have to do it again approach (within reason, mind you). That's how I was brought up, and 32 years later, I still live by it.

In no means am I being disrespectful, just a cxurious question as my godson is now tall enough to ride most coasters (yay!).

Tim.

^Good question! We let her decide on stuff we feel comfortable with her riding. We don't even approach the subject with her on rides that she's tall enough for but we don't feel she's ready for...here are some examples:

- Scandi Trip - She was allowed on two of the FULL SIZE WOODIES!!! We didn't feel she was ready and didn't even tell her. She was also tall enough for the Dog Fart Coaster, but was really jet lagged in a bad mood. We tried to talk her on to it, but she just didn't want to and we didn't push it. She then asked to go back the rest of the trip!!!

- West Coast Trip - She wanted to go on Matterhorn and we felt okay taking her on the 'tamer' side. She didn't like it as much as other rides and didn't ask to go again, nor did we push her. The first time we went to ride Gadget's (keeping in mind she had been on several roller skaters at this point) she all of a sudden decided 20 minutes into the line that she didn't want to ride. It was late, and we didn't push it. The next day she begged to go ride it and we rode it like 10 times!

The hardest ride to deal with has been Frog Hopper type rides (kiddie Drop Towers). She has loved them FOREVER!!! Since she was like 16 months old! At Under 36'' about half the parks let kids ride and half don't. It is VERY difficult to explain to a toddler why she can't ride a frog hopper today, when she could ride the exact same frog hopper at a different park yesterday!!!!

For me, the worst part is that she loves spinning rides and Robb always takes her on terrible tilt a whirls, teacups, and scramblers so then she wants me to go too!!! LAME!!!!

^^^ Tim, I will second what Elissa said. My daughter is now 19 and will ride anything, but when she was five to eight years old, I always asked if she wanted to ride. She rode Ninja at SFMM when she was almost six and liked it. She also rode Jaguar! at Knott's at around the same age and liked that, too. But she wasn't crazy about the Matterhorn.

I took my then six-year-old nephew on Revolution and he loved it.

With kids, you just never know.

This is a good reason why parks should have coasters that young kids can ride, and why SFMM needs some more coasters with 36"-42" height limits.

Elissa, do you just not like spinning rides or DOES it make you nauseous? Sorry if it has been asked before.

On topic....When I was six, my aunt tried to force me on Mamba, which would have been(was) my third coaster ever! I yelled at her and sat on the pavement in front of the ride but she still dragged me on with the jaws of life! However, it was awesome and got right back in line and the pattern repeated with different rides throughout the day. Not terrible 'aunting' skills but at least it worked out in the long run.

It's people like this that make my job as a ride op much more difficult than it should be. Why can't people just accept it that their child is too short for a ride and just bring them back later when they are taller. I've been cursed at, physically threatened, and been threatened to be sued by parents before. There are some people who just can't be rational. I understand it when a kid acts that way, but when the parents do it, it's very shameful. Such a great thing to teach your kids too, how to disrespect rules.

I agree Andrew since I had the same job. I also had the same job at GADV. People are severely irrational when they pay to get into a place. if it were free they wouldn't complain so much. They tend to blow up. I rather dealt with it nicely as I should have but I laugh my butt off later with the crew.

It makes me nauseous, and KT knows this and laughs about it.

I'm so proud of her!!!!

We were riding the Tilt a Whirl at Belmont on the West Coast Trip (I believe Tyler and Piers were with us as well!) and KT kept looking at me saying "Mommy, are you nauseous?" and laughing. It was funny, but I only went once, then she went more with the boys!

I personally think your child's safety goes BEFORE your child's happiness. They can't have fun if they're not safe!

And seriously, bribing a ride op? Come on, the ride ops won't be stupid enough to take the money. Basically, you're paying for your child's death.

(I know I will be criticized. ._.)

No, in a sense you would be paying money to kill your kid.
