It's sad that the Skyvue project still has a live webcam up, looking at the same dead construction site all these months. They should probably just turn it off. I used to think it was poorly placed but since it easily looks over the resorts its behind, you can likely get great views of the surrounding area. From my estimates you will have great views on Flamingo, Quad, Harrahs, Bellagio, Caesars, Mirage, Venetian/Palazzo, Paris, Ballys etc.... It will be really great. Plus the connection to Linq, which I am liking more and more every day, will make this an excellent attraction to check out. This is all with the exception of the "experience" Caesars is planning around the wheel, that makes it sound even more enticing. Â Skyvue, although it would have a cool view looking down the strip, is still down at the end of the strip making it less accessible. High Roller is smack dab at center Strip. Makes sense for them, as it would basically give them control of 2/3 of the strip and complete the process of making the south end of the strip a destination. They added the night club & Cirque show, already have a decent sized arena/convention space @ Mandalay, a couple of decent restaurants at Mandalay & Mandalay place so really the only element missing is more shopping/dining and a major tourist attraction (I don't consider the aquarium a big draw). The way Caesars is handling High Roller, MGM could turn Skyvue into a smart attraction that caters well to adults and families alike. You pique my curiosity with that comment about Skyvue. As for High Roller's location, actual experience on the wheel will provide that answer. Though the points being made are certainly valid. Being that high up, broadens the possibilities of the view, no matter where it stands; plus, with the economy improving, who knows where and what will provide the new center of growth in Vegas. It seems a new spurt has begun and the Linq is a major start to that. With the former Echelon spot getting ready to restart construction, with a Chinese inspiration, plus the new Sahara, and the other project between New York New York and Monte Carlo there will soon be some very interesting new things to check out, which should only encourage more again. Most of the shops aren't open yet, infact I think only O'Sheas is open. I'm going to swing by this weekend and check it out. I'll post pictures afterwards. Right now it's maybe 1/4 of the area, maybe even less. Checked out Koto, they has some cool oddity gift items, mostly drinking related. It was kind of a classy/posh Spencer's. Â O'sheas is very small, but nice. It was completely packed and had some live music going on. It was really just an annex of the Quad's casino. Â Lastly we checked out Purple Zebra. It's a candy store that also serves frozen drinks (non alcoholic and alcoholic). They give you free samples of just about everything (all premise concoctions) and also mix certain drinks to make even better ones. Jew Posted January 6, 2014 Author Share Posted January 6, 2014 For those of you who are hockey fans, Boyd gaming has decided not to renew their lease with the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL at the Orleans Arena. Definitely disapointing, but rumors are swirling that they are in talks with a few other arenas in the area. It seems unlikely that they would go to a strip arena like Mandalay Events Center or MGM Grand Garden since they have so many events in and out of those already. The only other arena I'm aware of is Thomas and Mack at UNLV and I'm not sure a semi-pro team would be allowed to play in a college arena. Seems like the college wouldn't want that... maybe? College and pro teams sharing arenas and stadiums isn't uncommon. The Arizona Cardinals played for 30 years in ASU's stadium, St Johns. plays some games in Madison Square Garden, Villanova uses the Wells Fargo arena in Philly, Memphis shares its arena with the college team, and so on. That makes me much more hopeful that they will find a new home. Cox arena is right there at UNLV as well which is actually the more likely candidate for the Wranglers. I never even knew South Point had an arena, that would be another great for for them I think (based on location, not sure how nice the arena is).
